The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. While traveling at a low rate of speed to back out of a parking space, the transmission cable fractured without warning. As a result, the contact's vehicle rolled backwards on an incline and across two lanes of traffic. The vehicle was unable to be moved due to the failure. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where a transmission cable kit and brackets were installed. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v224000 (power train) and 12v460000 (power train). The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,765. Updated 09/14/lj.

The vehicle would shutter when I placed it into reverse. Also, when going into 3rd and 5th gear, the rpms would jump suddenly. I took the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealership who said it was the transmission and recommended I sell the vehicle immediately and buy a new one. I then took the vehicle to three transmission shops who confirmed the transmission has known problems with the wave plate breaking. My Saturn Aura will be fixed Tuesday, February 24th. It was confirmed the wave plate broke which tore up the drum. The transmission shop has boxed up the bad parts for me to keep.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to reverse. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Driving entering the freeway when my 1008 Saturn Aura suddenly when into neutral mode while the gear lever was still on drive. The felt like it went to neutral - pressing on gas rpm is up but the car was not responding. Truck was behind me almost hit me. . . . I have read up on the issue its there are a lot of similar story about this event.
2008 Saturn Aura. Consumer writes in regards to transmission shift cable recall repair issues. The consumer stated she received a recall letter in November 2012. She scheduled an appointment at the dealer and the repairs were made in January 2013. However, sometime in early 2015, it became difficult for her to shift gears, particularly between reverse and drive. Finally on July 3, 2015, while trying park, the gear would not move from drive to reverse. After quite a struggle she was able to get the vehicle into park, remove the key and set the parking brake. However, when she tried to re-start the vehicle minutes later, the ignition would not start. With the vehicle still in park, with the parking brake set, the vehicle began to roll forward into another vehicle when the battery was being jumped. Fortunately, the consumer was able to stop the vehicle before it made contact with the other vehicle. In order to start the vehicle she had to find where the neutral was on the transmission;park on the gear was reverse for the transmission; drive for the transmission was between neutral and reverse; and park for the transmission was absent requiring the emergency parking brake to hold the vehicle in place. An independent mechanic replaced the transmission shifter cable and the bracket that was replaced back in January 2013. The original part, that was not a problem at the time, was replaced with a part that became a problem later. The consumer referenced recall # 12v460000.
Got to the bank parked a car and it did not want to go to park, somehow got it to drive and got back to the work place, did not want to go into the reverse or any other gear, pushed car into the parking lot. Did get recall notice earlier in the year but did not have time to take it in for the fix.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. While shifting the gear into reverse, the shifter suddenly became loose. The failure occurred after the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 14v224000 (power train). The dealer diagnosed that the transmission shift cable fractured. The dealer installed a retainer over the cable, which was not the expected repair for the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the check engine light illuminated as the contact heard a loud noise and felt a pull on the vehicle. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but there was no diagnosis or repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was notified of NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system , electronic stability control , exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control), the VIN was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
From the owner's manual: "this vehicle is equipped with an electronic shift lock release system. The shift lock release is designed (1) prevent ignition key removal unless the shift lever is in park (p) with the shift lever button fully released, and (2) prevent movement of the shift lever out of park (p), unless the ignition is in on/run or acc/accessory and the regular brake pedal is applied. The shift lock release is always functional except in the case of an uncharged or low voltage (less than 9 volt) battery. If your vehicle has an uncharged battery or a battery with low voltage, try charging or jump starting the battery. See jump starting on page 5-43 for more information. " the car has a v6 engine and from park, with the keys in the ignition and the ignition in the off position, I was able to shift the car into drive after depressing the brake. The car rolled backwards but I was able to stop it before any personal injury or damage occurred. I was also able to turn the engine off with the car in drive and remove the keys from the ignition. The battery is fully charged and does not have low voltage. While I've been luck there has been no personal or property damage sustained, it's easy to see that it can happen. Especially if an automatic transmission can be left in gear, the engine turned off and the keys removed from the vehicle. I purchased this car October 10, 2007 and the door label indicates it was built in October 2007, so the build date for this car was between 10/1 and 10/10/2007.
Vehicle will not shift out of park. Had it towed to the local Chevrolet dealer and was told by them that the shift cable and bracket were broken and needed to be replace. The dealer says this vehicle is not covered under the current recall 14152. Called gm customer assistance but was referred back to dealer. This vehicle and the problem appears to be the listed in the recall.
I was driving to work and my car seemed to shift oddly between second and third gears. Rough, jerky and revving when it didn't need to. When I was backing into my parking space in the garage, I put the car in reverse and it didn't have any power. It hesitated like it didn't want to go and then it finally moved. I had to do this two or three times to get into my parking spot and each time it was worse. I called the shop and had it towed because I suspected the transmission was having issues, and even saw online that there had been some recalls on the Saturn Aura for that year on the transmission, but the dealer said there are no active recalls on my vehicle. I need a new transmission now according to the dealer.
While driving the car near my home I tried to go in reverse and the car would not move. The car also will not go over 20 mph.
After stopping the car in the driveway my wife put the car in park and when she removed her foot from the brake the car started moving backwards. While trying to get the transmission in park it continued to roll out of the driveway and into the street. We were able to get the car put back into a forward gear and drive back into the driveway where when put back into park it was in reverse again (the indicator showed park but the transmission was in reverse). At that time I shut off the car and applied the parking brake. The car was towed to the local dealer (fisher Chevrolet) where it was determined that the shift cable had broken. I then checked the recall list and found that the Saturn Aura had a recall for that specific issue (NHTSA campaign number: 14v224000). We contacted the dealer and was told that our car was not on the recall list!!? we then contacted gm and was told that the cable had been inspected prior to the recall and was determined to not be a problem and therefore not covered under the recall. Talking to the service manager and asking him about the inspection he told us that they had not inspected the cable and he doesn't know why our car is not part of the recall. If a vehicle model is recalled for a specific problem and a vehicle actually has that issue occur wouldn't that indicate that vehicle should be included in the recall?.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v224000 (power train). The contact stated that the transmission cable fractured. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but the vehicle was not repaired because the part was unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Vehicle will no longer shift into park. Transmission cable broke. There is a recall for this exact problem but gm won't honor it for this lot of vehicles.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the gear shift failed and when the vehicle was placed in drive it responded as if it were in reverse gear without warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000. Rk.
2 years ago I complained to gm concerning the car moving when it was in park to no avail. On wed my grandson was approaching the stop sign in the auto would not shift. As he I tried to put the car into reverse it would not back up. I had him drive to the end of the cu-DE-sac where we could turn around and brought the car home where it has sat.
This is what is wrong with my car, confirmed by the transmission center that has the transmission wave plate is broken and the snap ring which holds it in place is in pieces. All parts are being saved for me. A detailed report is being prepared. Technical service bulletin #09-07-30-012 was issued by gm on this defect. No recall has ever been issued. The failure resulting from this error is common, and inconsistently addressed by gm. There is no driver error or maintenance issue that can cause this fault. My car received regular dealer service the entire time it was under warranty, and no mention of this problem was ever made, nor did anyone at the dealership offer to repair it, even when another serious engine repair, also under warranty, and also due to a manufacturing error, was being undertaken.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the vehicle rolled away while secured in park. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for inspection or repairs. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number 14v224000(power train) however, the VIN was not included and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 203,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. When the vehicle was started, the contact could not shift from the park to the drive position. The failure occurred multiple times. The dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,300.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 mph, the vehicle jerked without warning. The failure recurred on several occasions. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 12v460000 (power train) and 14v252000 (electrical system , electronic stability control , exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control) however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
I experienced the recently announced rollaway problem, but my dealer says my vehicle VIN is not on the recall list.
Unable to put car in park, I have to place the emergency brake on in order for car to not move when in the park position. I have to place the car in neutral in order to start it, and then place it in the desire gear.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the arm bracket near the gear shift malfunctioned. In addition, the bushing cable failed to work in conjunction with the gears changing. The contact had to apply the emergency brake. When the vehicle was turned off and restarted, the gear was able to change from drive to park. The dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v224000 (power train) and 12v460000 (power train). The approximate failure mileage was 134,000.
The vehicle transmission shift cable failed while in a public street, and was only able to move in reverse (it could not be placed in park). During an automatic transmission change on the Saturn Aura the shift cable broke causing the vehicle to be stuck in the existing gear (reverse), unable to be placed in park or changed from reverse to forward. This has the identical results as recall "NHTSA campaign number: 14v224000" and "NHTSA campaign number: 12v460000". The vehicle in question had the recall work for 12v460000 completed prior to the incident, and after contacting gm was stated to not be affected by 14v224000. It is my concern that all Saturn Aura's shift cables are faulty and should be recalled.
Vehicle was at a stop sign and when it was time to move forward the vehicle hesitated and would not respond to increase acceleration. Vehicle was able to drive approximately 5 mile to be parked at home. When at home, checked to see if vehicle would back up and found that there was no reverse function.
I noticed that it wasn't shifting into gear like it normally does. And then it wouldn't go into reverse. I took it to a shop the next morning. I had trouble driving it there. The engine light had come on. They took it for a test drive but didn't make it very far because it wouldn't work for them either. They had to push the car. I bought this car in 2009 when it was only a year old. They told me the transmission was gone. I tried to drive it home but only got a few miles when I had to pull over and have it towed. This was and is very troubling with all the gm recalls. There a lot of people who have had this same problem. I still have another year on the car and I haven't been able to fix it. I need help with this.
When you have the car in park it is not always in park and if you turn the car off it will not start back up. So when we try to start the car again it will not start, so we have to move the gear shift to neutral to start it that way. When we move the gear shift to park it is not always in park. We think this may have happened in the above accident. The car rolls back. Before we became aware of the problem this happened twice. Once where our car hit another car and another time where I was able to avoid an accident but that was just because no one was parked directly behind me and I was able to stop it in time before I hit the cars parked several feet away.
I have had my car for about 1 year now and I have been having issues with it since I left the dealer ship. The car has begun to give me a traction control light, engine power reduced light, and check engine light. I was driving down the road trying to get to work when I came up to a hill. I started going up the hill as usual and the car all of sudden lost all power. It would not go above 45 miles per hour and was struggling to do even that. It took me about 10 minutes to get the hill where I shut my car off and waited about 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes I turned my car back on and it functioned as normal. If there is a problem going on in the car why would be cleared after 10 minutes of being off? this car needs to be recalled before someone doesn't see that the Aura in front of them in being forced by the computer to slow down. The break lights do not come on when this occurs. I had to shut my car off 3 times just to make it 5 miles where I could get it looked at. The power steering in my car is also whacked out. I will be driving down the road and it will start turning the wheel back and forth. I have seen this happen in older cars, it is usually caused by a bad u joint. In this particular case it is not. After this occurred I slowed down and pulled over on the side of the road and placed my car in park. The steering was still shaking back and forth rapidly. I have taken it to many dealers and asked if they could determine a cause. All of them have said the same thing, "I have never seen that happen before". I wish I would have looked into all of the reviews about this car before I bought it. There are hundreds of instances of this happen to Aura owners and I think it time gm pays for it!.
While driving my 2008 Saturn Aura abs light, traction control, and esc light comes on. Car starts. Transmission on route 95 south in florida went from speed limit of 70 to 20 with no warning. Got off the highway car would not go any faster. Also could not put car into reverse.
The vehicle does not go into park. When placed in park it rolls foward or backward and I must use the emergency brake to turn off the car and remove the key. It only allows me to start my car in neutral. It has shifted from drive to neutral as I am driving. There has been over 421, 000 of these recalled but I am being told mine is not on the list and I must pay for it all out of pocket from falicia, the district specialist for Saturn. My biggest concern is who would the blame be on if my car were to roll into another car or building? I want and need to get this fixes ASAP but do not have any money for ot and do not believe I should have to pay for it when all the others were fixed for free due to it being a defect.
While driving on the overpass/highway, car jumps/skips to the side (opposite of turning direction). Steering shaft has been replaced and didn't solve this issue. We have had front end basically re-done also. Losing power steering fluid; power steering whines and is very stiff. I am convinced that this vehicle should be on the recall list!!! very disappointed in the amount of money we have had to sink into this car. We've been dealing with a continuum of repeated problems for 3 plus years!.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the power steering and brakes failed. The vehicle would also jerk and fail to accelerate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 100,000.
