27 problems related to equipment have been reported for the 2003 Saturn ION. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My ignition was recalled but the mechanics at gm crestview didn't know how to reset the computer so all my lights stayed on for check engine. Now my ignition is acting up and my car won't turn on. Is it still covered under the recall?.
Key sticks in ignition, wont come out. Key comes out in neutral and drive sometimes. Have to keep starting and going forward and back thru gears until it releases keys concerned about wear/damage on all componts involed. Was told to disconnect battery to release keys. Keys come out when batty is dead. Battery in trunk, trunk full. Was told and shown videos about ignition/ignition lock cylinder and gear shift area repair recall. Need recall info, letter and recall code numbers. My vehicle is stationary when ignition not releaaing. I bought the car 8/2018. The previous owener told me about this malfunction. It strands me sometimes and I need a jump start. Tired of messing with it. It is extremely inconvenient.
Takata recall, my 2003 Saturn Ion has recalls on the ignition switch and cylinder which is causing my car to be impossible to drive. This recall is causing the system to have a short with all my electrical. For example, windows don't roll down/up, wipers don't work, heater doesn't work, blinkers don't work, dash lights stay on causing battery to constantly be dead. All because there are recalls that need to be fixed.
Upon receiving recall notice#14063 ignition replacement and #14113 ignition lock cylinder and ignition key for vehicle from g. M. Vehicle was taken to dealership to have recalls preformed in doing so dealership removed hand controls for disabled driver. Hand controls were not placed into previous state as vehicle was first brought in. Dealership is not certified to install, remove, modify or maintain hand controls for disabled driver. Dealership failed to notify vehicle owner of hand control removal to preform recalls. In an attempt to reinstall in original position upon leaving dealership owner discovered that the hand controls had been modified into an unsafe operating position by disabled owner. Vehicle was driven to owners home less than one mile from dealership. Where it will remain until it can be towed to a certified dealership to modify hand controls into proper position for disabled owner to safely operate vehicle. As of now vehicle is inoperable for safe use by owner.
Sunroof glass shattered. While backing out of the drive I heard a thump on the roof of the car. Then while driving down the road I began to notice pieces of glass flying off the car. When I got of the car I saw pieces of glass on the inner cover of the sunroof.
My mechanic told me to report this problem. I have a 2003 Saturn Ion and as I was driving the clutch pedal snapped up almost to the dash. I was barely able to get my leg up high enough to push it back down to shift. It would stay down for awhile then do it again sometimes as high sometimes about half way up. The pedal needed to be replaced. The car has 109,000 miles on it. He had a hard time getting parts for it because it was out of stock and on back order at most places. This is a real safety issue because when it first happened I completely missed the clutch and just pulled it out of gear without shifting. The pedal was up by the dash and my foot went under it. I am glad I wasn’t on a highway. Since the parts are on back order my mechanic thinks it might need a recall.
I had received a recall letter from gm for my 2003 Saturn Ion December 2014: gm recall # 14632 which states "that my vehicle's transmission shifter may not properly transmit an electrical signal that allows the ignition key to be turned counter clockwise past the accessory mode to the lock position after the vehicle has been shifted into park. " this is happening to my car and I have taken it in for the repair on 5 different occasions to 2 different dealerships and it fails the very next day. I have a reference # that I filed with gm and the sr advisor recommended that I try a different dealership which I did but the issue remains. I have tried to call back the sr advisor but I continue to get voicemail and she has not returned my call. I am not sure what to do if gm issues a recall and they cannot repair the default.
Vehicle was in for recall on ignition switch, at the dealership changed oil and conducted multipoint inspection of vehicle. Eight weeks later vehicle was returned for service for smell of gas, dealership reported all gas lines corroded and leaking gas and need to be replaced, dealership states not releated to fuel filter corrosion recall (nthsa 04v003000) even though recall service not performed. Corroded, leaking gas lines make vehicle unsafe to operate and have the potential for fire. Believe this should be a recall as operating the vehicle with leaking gas lines put me and my family in danger. Not mention the $1000 plus repairs vehicle.
The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA recall (ignition switch). After recall replacement, when parking and turning the vehicle off, the key would not release from the ignition. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000. Dealer said it has nothing to do with recall repair, to fix about $500. 00.
In traveling on the highway the hood blew open and smashed the front windshield and we were lucky to safely slow down, cross 3 lanes of traffic by looking out of the back window as obviously there was no visibility. . Just the hood. In inspection we noticed that the latch was corroded and rusted and detatched from the top plate leaving no hood security. The top latch is still locked in place. This could have been a fatal incident but god was definatly by our side!.
I received a recall notice for the ignition switch & ignition lock cylinder and ignition key. Contacted the local GMC dealer and they say they don't have the parts. It's been about 3 months since I contacted them. The GMC dealer Buick GMC at 361 n. Switzer canyon, flagstaff, az (phone 928-774-1472). Last week I received a post card from GMC saying that their records indicated that I had not serviced the car for the recall notice. They urge me to take care of the problems. The issue is that the dealer says they don't have the parts. I haven't had any incidents thus far with the car. I ride the public bus to work.
I have a 2003 Saturn Ion and my car keeps turning off. And when I try to turn it off I cant I called to make an appt but no parts are in yet. I have been taking the bus to work.
My name is warren and, my 2003 Saturn Ion just shutdown while I was driving. I couldn't restart my car so another motorist helped me push my car on the shoulder side of the road. I called a local chevy dealership, I gave them my name, my contact information and, my vehicle information. And, chevy still til this day haven't returned any of my phone calls, my messages, and they're refusing to fix the recalls for my vehicle.
The throttle position switch failed on this vehicle while it was being driven. This caused the the engine to quit. It would not restart. Replacing the tps cured the problem.
I received a letter from gm about the ignition switch recall either last week or the week before. It stated to drive my vehicle with the ignition key only, not even with the key fob. I was also told that the part is no longer made for my vehicle. The letter also stated that there is no risk of ignition failure as long as the driver uses the key only. I have faithfully followed that since receiving my letter. I am telling you that information is false. As I was driving home tonight, I noticed the engine sounded different. The steering became difficult to control, the battery light illuminated on the dash, and my breaks only responded to very heavy pressure. Basically I had little control of my vehicle. I was less than a mile away from home. I turned into a parking lot with great difficulty, turned off my vehicle and then back on. It was as if nothing happened. I am panicked now. Thank goodness this happened after I exited the highway and it was after rush hour. I'm not sure I would have been able to turn into that parking lot without incident if there was heavier traffic. I immediately called gm when I returned home and told them the car wasn't safe to drive, even with the ignition key only. Customer service didn't seem to understand the danger. We'll see if they follow up. I hope you follow up as well.
Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that when the horn is pushed, the horn continued to sound until the vehicle is turned off. The failure occurs often. The manufacturer has been notified. The manufacturer did not offer a remedy. The failure mileage was 125,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.
I have been struggling for years with my car not wanting to start. I had this to many garages and even the Saturn dealer and no one could find a problem. Finally the car just stopped starting, and then I replaced the ignition switch. This seemed to work for 2 days and then my car just died electrically on February 21st and on the 26th the garage repaired this which cost me $309. 00. The very next day the recall for this problem was announced. Will you reimburse me for the cost of the repair? this seems appropriate since this was ultimately the fault of the faulty ignition switch and I am just fortunate that an accident was not involved since I have had this vehicle since 2005.
This has happened numerous times and is really scary! the gas petal sticking it gets really stiff and doesnt want to stop . The one time I was going 25 mph and it wouldn't stop so I had to slam it in park and the rpms got up to 4 . It seems to happen more when it gets cold out . It is not letting up and I am scared for my safety.
After my car wouldn't start I called carr Chevrolet to ask questions and they were very rude. I call the dealership where I bought the car and was told that there is a recall on that problem. However I bought the car in California but I live in oregon. The car is still not running and I'm still paying on it. If this is a problem on a recall I need help. Bonnie king 503 929 5060.
My switch will not turn back to release my keys. At times trying to start the car the switch will not turn, as well. Eventually it will turn, for now.
My car wouldn't shut off. The key was stuck and it would not turn. I took it to a local mechanic to fix and they had to replace it. I've had a total of 3 new ones done since then. I just found out that gm are recalling some cars because of the ignition problem. I have not heard a thing about it and they knew about this for years. I've had my car for 11 years now and had to pay for all the repairs myself, but I didn't know how dangerous this could be since I've learned about 7 people have died because the air bag didn't deploy because of this malfunction. So I'm very upset that I had this car for all this time and I didn't know how dangerous my car really is.
When below 32 car will not start. Then security is enabled and have to wait 10 minutes to try again.
My wife was having problems with her Saturn just before the date of 12/24/07, the car would shut off for no reason or she would have a hard time starting it. We made an appointment with, at the time, Saturn of eatontown, NJ, and they told us that the ignition switch would have to be replaced. It cost $324. 30 to replace the part. There was a recent delayed recall about the ignition switch from gm, 13 people were killed due to this defect, I feel gm should refund this money to me since they knew there was a problem with it back then. I have the reciept for this repair if you need copy.
When driving car shuts off completely. Happened twice in the past and didn't think anything about it. Heard about gm's recall with vehicles shutting off. My car last night shut off on me and again this morning. There's plenty of gas in the tank it just shuts down and won't let me start.
Car will not start at random times. I wait 20 minutes and the car starts right up.
Key gets stuck in ignition and vehicle will not shut off. Have had to replace ignition switch twice first in 2005 with approx 12,000 miles and again in 2010 with approx 52,000 miles. Now vehicle has 73,000 miles and is having same issue, which drains down battery. No other keys are on key ring. This needs to be fixed immediately and included in gm recall as my VIN is not showing as affected, and this should not be an out of pocket expense to me again as it is a known issue.
At the time my Saturn was involved in an accident it was under 30,000 miles and still under warrenty. I was driving on a busy highway and my accelerator got stuck. At the time I could not see what was holding down my accelerator. It was a piece of panel that came off partially that was holding the accelerator really hard and it was stuck making my pedal stuck almost all the way to the floor. I tried to slow the car down with both feet on the breaks and the emergency break to no avail. I didn't turn the ignition off because I had cars on all sides of me going 50-70 mph. It was when I came to a red light that I realized my car wasn't going to stop and I had no other choice but to hit an SUV and my car kept trying to accelerate and push the SUV out of the way. That is when I turned off the ignition. I had to turn off the ignition before another accident occurred. The SUV was damaged. My car was damaged. I haven't been able to get my car fixed because I am waiting for Saturn to acknowledge the manufacturing defect which caused the accident, so that they could lend me a rent-a-car while it is in the shop. But, I cannot get them to give me a call to make an appointment to get my car in the shop or supply a rent-a-car. A forensic investigator inspected my car on Friday and agrees that I didn't cause the accident. He supplied the information to Saturn and still three days later I can't even get a courtesy call. The accident was on June 16, 2005. I couldn't get them to call me to speak about what my options were until the week of July 1, 2005. Then an investigator July 8, 2005. They have not made one effort to work with me about getting the car into the shop. They have not given me the time of day to make an appointment with a Saturn shop location to get my car fixed and so that they could supply a rent-a-car.
