One problem related to steering rack and pinion has been reported for the 2003 Saturn ION. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
At all speeds the power steering stops working. Started when making a turn. Steering did not return after turning had to manually force the steering wheel turn back to straight position. Rack and pinion could be the issue. Also makes a growling/rubbing sound.
