4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2017

Engine reduction, serious safety concern, was almost hit by a semi, engine reduction light comes on, lose power and car slows at a high rate causing extreme safety hazard in traffic, must pull off interstate turn car off to reset, happening 2-3 times a day, strong smell of gas, have a leak and it is not covered under the warranty, sooner or later someone is going to be cruising down the interstate and their Saturn is going to reduce engine power and they will not have time to get out of the way, they will be plowed down by a semi. Are we going to continue to allow gm to ignore this issue like they ignored the ignition switch probelms until it starts causing deaths, why not solve the issue before the deaths start to occur, it seems the older these year models get the worse this problem becomes. I was forced to put a date, but this is an ongoing problem that is getting increasingly worse with the fuel leak, maybe one day the engine will reduce power at the same time I will get run over by a semi and the car will explode into flames from the fuel leak they are not recalling for my vehicle.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

I was driving the 2006 Saturn Ion in my neighborhood. I reached the intersection at the end of my street and came to a stop/yield. As I took my foot off the brake to shift to the gas and began steering to turn left, the engine suddenly turned off. The battery light on the dash appeared. I was able to put the car in park, turn off the vehicle, and restart it. I returned home instead of continuing my trip. My vehicle is affected by the recall with campaign id number 14v-047. I had removed all additional keys from my keyring as recommended in the three recall letters I received, but I still believe that this issue was related to the issue the ignition switch. I have chosen to file this complaint because one of the letters I received from [xxx]of gm asserted that the vehicle was safe to drive as long as there were no additional keys on the keyring. . 14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2012

On or about 9/12/2012, I was driving in my Saturn Ion going 45 miles an hour, in heavy morning traffic, when in an instant my car decelerated and was at a slow crawl. I could not get any acceleration even when pressing the gas. I was only a couple blocks away from work, so I coasted until I got there. I was almost hit. But I could not go any faster. I was afraid to turn off the car for fear that it would not start up again. I was afraid to drive it and I called to have it towed to the dealership to have it looked at. Henderson Chevrolet looked at it and said that it was the computer motherboard of the car. This was replaced at a cost to me of $800. 00+. It happened again on 11/20/12. The car went from 30 to 5 miles per hour in a split second! no warnings. I took it back to the dealership. They said that they had no idea what want going on with it nor why it was doing this. Their suggestion to me was to get another vehicle. What my Saturn did is the same thing described in the ignition recall. When this happened to me , there was no recall. No one thought of looking at the ignition. When I lost power, my thought was not gee, maybe my keys are too heavy & my car turned off! me see if my ignition turned off when I went over that bump. Had the recall ignition problem had been something that gm was aware of at the time and notice was received, the mechanic would have known that this was the problem. But I replaced the brain of my car at $800 when it was not needed. Not wanting it to happen again (say on the freeway), I traded in the car. I feel that I should be reimbursed for the costs I paid to repair my vehicle¿¦when it should have been taken care of by the recall. My experience happened before anyone knew about this kind of thing happening to these vehicles. The consumer has since traded the vehicle. Updated 07/28/14.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2012

I am not able to turn off the car. The key will not turn to shut off the car. I had to find the fuse for the ignition in order to be able to turn off the car. I have read that there are many people having this issue and this could have been a disaster if I were out of town. I can't believe there is not a recall for this issue. This also happened to my son who has the same model and year that I have. I don't know how I am going to get gas as you have to turn the car off to do this, as it is a federal regulation.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2012

I started smelling gas when was stopped. I figured there may be a leak. I took it to a shop and they said I have one. I researched online and found that there was a recall on parts of the fuel system but that it doesn't apply in my state. So now im going to have to pay the $600 or so to get it fixed.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

While driving the car will automatically shut off. I can be on the freeway at 55 miles and the car will just die. I can be at a stop light and the car will die. I have taken it in and twice they said they found nothing however the problem still exsist. I thought that with the recall repair of the ignition switch it might help but it hasn't and my key still gets stuck in the ignition at times and I don't even have anything hanging on the key only the remote. Basically once you feel the car losing power and all dash lights show up, you need to restart the car to proceed. Very dangerous especially on the road.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

Each time I kill the engine I have to sit and wait for the string of electronic tics to quit before my car will let go of the key. Each episode seams to differ on the length of time it, takes or decides, to let go of the key.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2010

Timing chain bracket fails causing damage to the timing chain. Saturn knows of this problem and is stocking parts in anticipation of the occurance. I was told this by the service repairman.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

When I first got my 2006 Saturn Ion, I was the first and only owner bought it from the Saturn dealership with less than a 50 miles on the car. Before 30 days of owning the automobile it quit on me in the middle of busy intersection endangering myself and my children. I took it to the dealership where they have claimed to fix the ignition switch on the automobile, several weeks later the same problem occurred they then replaced the key. Then months later my alarm started going off spontaneously, the battery went dead on the automobile which I have replaced 3 times, the ignition switch went out again I had to replace that myself out of pocket in March of 2009. Still after replacing the battery, getting the ignition switch fixed twice, and having the electrical parts looked at the car still continues to have the same problems. If I get gas why the car is not cranked it will not crank back up for hours!!! it will go dead while I'm driving on a freeway does this all the time! this Saturn Ion has caused me nothing but money and problems since I've had it I purchased a additional warranty on the automobile when I bought it and they refuse to replace or fix any of the work on the automobile when I only have gotten my car serviced with Saturn they do all of my oil changes, and maintenance and charge me a arm and leg to maintain the maintenance on the automobile. I have had to pay so much money on this automobile for maintenance that should not even be a issue at this time my car doesn't even have 84k on it yet. The engine seems to shake when the car sits still, the car quits if the engine is not running when you get fuel, the car quits at red lights, the car power steering gets real hard to turn when you try to turn the steering wheel, the Saturn Ion is definitely a dud! you can smell gas sometimes coming from this automobile, and the battery is in the trunk of the car. . . So when it drains my battery goes go dead. The defects on this automobile will kill someone one day.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

On July 21, 2010, we were operating a 2006 Saturn Ion driving on a busy highway when the engine simply died as we were stopped at a stop light and angled down toward railroad tracks. Luckily, I was able to get into the turn lane and restart the car and avoided any incident. We went to dinner and, after dinner, stopped to fill the gas tank. Upon returning home, we pulled into the garage and scarily, the key would not turn so that we could kill the engine! after various maneuvers and reading online about over 400 other instances of this occurring, I finally removed fuse #16 and removed the negative cable off the batttery. After reading further, I noted that the engine dying at random could easily be related to the ignition switch. I contacted a locksmith this morning who worked and worked on trying to remove the lock cylinder and he could not. Now I am waiting on a tow truck to come get the car and replace the lock cylinder and possibly the ignition switch. Had this been my mother or anyone else's mother for that fact, they would have had to have sat in the garage or driveway until the car ran out of gas. This is utterly ridiculous that there are over 400 complaints on the internet and gm is doing nothing about recalling cars for this issue. I was very lucky that I was able to get into the turn lane and get stopped and restarted without causing serious injury to myself or anyone else and very lucky to have the internet to be able to stop the car's engine. Please do something about this as it is a serious problem.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2010

I have a 2006 Saturn Ion on with 43,000 miles (a well-maintained vehicle at that). The problem (a common one from everything I've read/heard): recently, I was unable to shut my vehicle off; that's correct. . . I could not turn my car off. The key was locked in the ignition with the vehicle running. After several hours, my husband and I were able to determine the best course of action (get it to a dealer, disconnect the fuel pump fuse and battery, and spend $451 to have the ignition cylinder completely replaced; the mechanic said it was defective). Not being able to shut off a vehicle is a major safety concern (for so many reasons); you can't simply leave a vehicle running, and you certainly can't leave a running vehicle unattended (although some people probably have. . . How dangerous is that?).

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2010

My power steering has gone out about 5 times while driving. It does not start working until the car is turned off and started again. It's extremely scary dangerous. The first time I thought it was a fluke, the second time I decided I needed to take it to get fixed and the power steering went out 3 more times before I could get it in.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2009

I got an oil change by my normal repair shop and when I got the car back from them the car failed to start properly. I had to start the car 3 times before it would turn on and stay running. For the following week afterwards, it did the same thing, failing to start and requiring at least 2 attempts to get the car running. After about a week, my girlfriend got her first glimpse of the problem and I started noticing difficulty turning the key to shut the car off. I took the car back to the repair shop. They asked me if knew the key was stuck. I told them I did, but I didn't understand fully what they meant until they finished the work they thought was causing the problem. They thought it was a dirty throttle causing the car not to be able to start and remain running. When I got the car back, I drove it home and found out that I couldn't turn the key at all. So my car was no longer able to shut off. I went to a Saturn dealership and the tech was very familiar with the problem, but advised me the car is out of warranty and would not be covered. I then took it back to the repair shop to have them repair it. I was told everything with the ignition would have to be replaced, totaling $519. Researching shortly online I found a 33 page complaint forum on consumer affairs with others having problems with the same car. Car make : Saturn car model: Ion 2.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2009

Moved car after guests left on the 4th of July. The engine would not turn off. Took the vehicle to the dealer and they seemed to be very familiar with problem. After researching the problem online, I realized I am not the only owner with this problem. I was told a part had to be ordered and the car would be ready tomorrow. I am debating on canceling service tomorrow to have this matter further reviewed. I am interested to find out if owners are reimbursed for expenses once a part is recalled. This is a very inconvenient $500 expense.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2008

Saturn Ion 2006 69k miles - ignition key stuck in on position. Cannot turn car off. Internet search reveals hundreds of people affected by this flaw in the ignition lock. Dealership wants 500 to fix.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2008

My 2006 Saturn Ion fails to start. Lights, radio, etc come on but will not turnover. This morning after waiting 15 minutes and turning the key off/off multiple times, it finally started. Other times this has happened I have waited anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes before the car will start. This happens weekly and I am a single women and I am afraid I will eventually be stranded. I have taken my car to a local mechanic, he could not get it to fail. I took it home and it happened the next day. When I called him he told me he thought it may be an ignition problem.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. While driving 75 mph, the cruise control stopped working. The power steering, battery, and coolant warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. 29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2008

Every now and then my key felt 'rough' in the ignition. On 7/4/2008 I got in the car (it was parked on a steep incline) and the key would not turn over. My first thought was that my steering wheel wasn't locked, but even after turning that (it never did seem to lock), the key still wouldn't budge. It eventually turned over. Between 7/4/2008 and 7/8/2008 this problem occurred almost every single time I started my car. The only times where it wasn't severe were when I was parked on a completely level surface such as a garage. I called the Saturn dealer and took my car into be serviced. The entire ignition lock cylinder had to be replaced. My key still feels 'odd' and I do not have faith that this problem is resolved. My car has 27,140 miles and will turn three on November 7, 2008. This is in addition to having my starter replaced in early January 2008. In December 2008 the car lost all power and died while decelerating on an exit ramp after driving 30 miles straight.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2006

My daughter was going to work - she backed out of our driveway - put the car in drive - started forward and the car engine cut off - she could not steer the car and ran into two other cars on our street - hit one in the side and the other vehicle in the front on its driver side - we called Saturn and notified them of the issue - they sent a tow truck and took it 70 miles to the nearest dealership - they said that they had to call in a special representative to check it out - he called us back and said that he could not find anything in the computer that would have caused the issue and told us to come back and get the car (about a 140 mile trip to pick up a car we were afraid of which we paid over $15000. 00 for) this caused over $2000. 00 of damage to her car it caused our insurance company to pay out a unknown amount for the damage to the other 2 vehicles the issue also went on her driving record as her fault (which it was not) and caused my insurance to go up - we are afraid to drive this car - always wait until there is no one coming before we use it to go anywhere because it hesitates - later the car started smelling like gas - and a message (pwr str) would come up on the dash - the key would not come out of the ignition and you could not get it to turn off - also on cold mornings it would not even start - any help or information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks .

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2006

The timing chain on my 2006 Saturn Ion is needing replaced. From what I have read this is a problem that Saturn has known about for quite sometime, but has never recalled. I am laid off from my job and cannot afford to get it fixed. Something should be done if problems are known about these cars.
