6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

On November 2, 2018, and after a two day train ride from washington, I arrived at smith motors to inspect and test drive a 2007 Saturn Ion 3 sedan that I had located on cargurus. Com. I was unable to located a certified automobile inspector in that area, and inspecting the vehicle in the rain made it difficult to see exterior damage, and test driving with the defogger blasting concealed the defect about which I am making this complaint. I specifically asked the salesman, craig manske, what is the meaning of "certified pre-owned," and he assured me that the Saturn had undergone a rigorous inspection and servicing of equal quality. He left me in the aggressive hands of the closer, smith motors's business manager, ross kent. Mr. Kent insisted that I sign a form acknowledging that my modifying the vehicle or using non-gm parts might void the warranty. I reminded him that the vehicle was twelve years old, had sixty-nine thousand miles on it and was undeniably out-of-warranty. He made my signature a deal-breaker, so I gave in because of the time and effort I had expended in getting myself to the dealership in the first place to buy this vehicle. I drove the car back to washington, but the stiff and squeaky pedals annoyed me enough that I took the vehicle to the nearest chevy, Buick & GMC dealership in warrenton, or. That technician was unable to silence the squeaky pedals with the lithium spray designed for the task. I ended up paying $55 in a subsequent attempt by another technician to unstiffen and silence the pedals, but it was unsuccessful. The cost to install a new clutch pedal is prohibitively expensive, there is no new brake pedal available, and the mechanic did not recommend using a salvage pedal. My request for reimbursement from smith motors, inc. Was denied by controller, carla sheeley, who insisted it was sold "as is. ".

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2017

Previous recall was for ignition, I'm still having problems since it was supposing fixed. The ignition will not release my key, this has been happening for a few months now. I have to sit and wait for several clicks b4 I can take my key out. Now it will hold my key and not release as it will lock the doors and won't allow me to put the car in gear. So I'm literally trapped inside. I have to wait several minutes b4 the ignition will release the key as well as allow me to unlock the door to get out. For now this is only occurring when I am sitting still. I'm afraid this will happen when I am driving.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2017

Ignition. Was once recalled and fixed with new ignition. Is starting to do the same thing. It does not turn off the car because the key locks in place. After numerous attempts it finally turns, but how long will this last. Just like last time. Needed new ignition switch.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2017

Over the last three to four years my power steering has went out my front passenger tire has almost fallen off twice I had to have it fixed my car don't want to start after I fill it up it's sputters every time and I've had literally had to get cut out of my seatbelt because it would not unlatch and mikey don't want to come out of the ignition have the time. The power steering went out while driving the tire almost fell off while driving and of course I'm stopped when I'm fueling and I was stopped when I was stuck in my seatbelt and stopped every time I try to take my key out.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2017

I have a strong gas smell coming from the rear passenger wheel well after driving the vehicle. There is no visible leak out puddle under the vehicle. I researched and found there were recalls for certain vehicles of the same model and year. I believe my vehicle is having the same issue but no recall has been issued.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2015

I have had intermittent issues with my passenger airbag light coming on and off. My vehicle has about 65,000 miles on it and I do not feel safe driving it with passengers. My gas cap light is on and off as well, and now, water is pooling on the floor for no reason after a dealer looked at my car. I have reported my airbag case to gm, as well as to the NHTSA hotline. I feel like airbag issues should be covered in all vehicles, particularly if there is no evidence of a crash. I do not have an airbag on/off switch, so I have no way to turn it on/off. My concern is that it may deploy for no reason, possibly injuring my passengers. All of my issues are on the passenger side of my car. (reported by friend of vehicle owner) no documentation other than case number info given to gm. Specific date just sept 2015.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

It is difficult to get the key out of the ignition. I have to turn the wheel all the way to the right, then 1 turn to the left. I have already had recall 14063 and 14113 performed on my car. I told the mechanic about it, and it worked correctly for a couple of weeks then went back to not letting me get the key out of the ignition unless the steering wheel is turned a certain way. This happens when I am try to leave after I park.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2015

Per past recall, my ignition switch was replaced. Previously, ignition keys were being chewed up, and that is again the case. Key locks in place & will not turn (over) for several tries.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

2007 Saturn Ion consumer is seeking reimbursement for repairs.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

This car was repaired under the recent general motors ignition switch recall in June of 2014. We are still having problems with the ignition. The key will periodically get stuck in the ignition, (you can turn the key to the acc position, but it will not go to the off position). In order to remove the key from the ignition you must restart the vehicle and turn it off again, usually after the 3rd of 4th try the key will go into the off position and the key can be removed. There are times when this does not work. There is an ignition release button located beneath the steering wheel, the ignition will turn to the off position when you stick your finger into the hole and push the button. However, I have received a slight shock when pushing this button. We are also concerned the other problems associated with the ignition recall will also still be present.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2014

My vehicle had 3 recalls from gm. After the defects were repaired on 10-8-14, the vehicle still has problems. The key ignition is still defective. Most of the times, when I park the car the key doesn't come out. I have to turn on and off the car to have it remove. I feel so unsafe on this car. I contacted gm and was given a case file# 71-1372088588, which to this date hasn't contacted me. I called again today, and was advised that they assigned a senior advisor to my case named tony at 1-866-790-5600 ext# 21746, which did not response. I spoke with a customer service rep names pierre and she stated that he was not responding and offered to transferred my call to his voice mail, which I did. I waited for so long for the parts, driving an unsafe car because I didn't want it to take advantage of the situation. However, on 9-6-14, I had to drive the car to the dealership, because the power steering failed in the middle of the highway. It was very scary. I got a rental for 1 month until they repaired the car. However, it seems that the problem persists and it is not fair for me. I need a reliable car. I need them to provide me with another car.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

My car was recalled for 2 things - ignition and power steering. I was provided a rental by gm in the interim of getting my car fixed. It has been 3. 5 months and I still do not have my vehicle. I have been told by the dealership on two separate occasions that my car is ready for pickup. I was told that my car battery had died and that in order to get it, I would need to pay $200 to fix the battery or have the car towed out of the lot. I was not happy about this, but figured that I would go to the dealership to evaluate the state of my car in the morning. I called 5 times throughout the day, and left three messages for the service manager. I did not hear anything else about my car for several days. I received a voicemail from anthony's employee, steve. He acknowledged my frustration and informed me "not to worry about paying for the rental" and that "we were waiting until we heard from you to submit the recall fix to GMC. " anthony never called. A week later, I received a voicemail from someone else at the dealership stating my car was ready. I called anthony and he stated "you have a bill for $200 for the battery replacement, and I believe the car has a new pump for the power steering recall. " I called Saturn customer service number to address my concerns about both the charge for the battery, and the fact that when I run a VIN search on my car, the power steering recall shows up as "incomplete. " she did not have an answer. She said the recall VIN search has a "lag time," and had no reason fornotmentioning thisbefore. Throughout this, anthony had said "I believe the power steering pump has been replaced,"but a VIN search shows the recall as incomplete, and according to gms own documents, a pump was never part of the recall remedy. I have no reason to believe my car is fixed, and I am being given no alternative to this $200 charge, which I never approved.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2014

After being verbally told and in writing that everything was fine with my car after the ignition recall kit was installed, my check engine light came on before I could even exit the service dealership lot. I immediately returned the car to their service department which resulted in going from no charges, everything is ok, to my car mysteriously may have a cylinder 1 misfire and it will cost me $2,000 to repair. General motors has and continues to give me the run around by placing me on hold and transferring me to call centers in india. This nightmare I have endured since 6/6/2014 to now is a shame and outright criminal in my opinion. I never post on sites like these but wanted to notify other Saturn owners who worked hard to own and up keep their cars.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

Car stalled then ran again fine. Thought maybe bad gas or something. Started hearing a loud noise in the engine. Change oil came on and so I took it in to be serviced only to find out the timing chain had jumped keys. This is a terrible issue which could have caused me to wreck had I not had plenty of room to coast off the road. Also seat belt is stuck and will not unbotton so I am unable to buckle up the right way until thats fixed too. Looking online all of this seems to be a common problem however it appears people have to die from it before a recall is given. I urge an investigation into the seatbelts and the timing chain.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

I had a recall on my switch which was fixed but it is still doing the same thing as it did before it was fixed but was told it was because of the censer (spelling ) in the it that keeps it from not connecting to let it know to turn the key all the way off . I was told it would be a cost to me to have it fixed . Well I don't feel it should be up to me to pay for it and I feel it is still a safety matter in the car . I think it should of been part of the recall to fix it all so that no one with the same problem would have to pay our of their or my pocket to fix it . Thanks for listening to me and hope that my concern will be noted .

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

Today my car has started accelerating unintentionally. It first happened when I was stopped at a red light. When I was leaving my destination around an hour later it started happening again. My car was literally slowly cruising through the parking lot without my foot on the gas pedal.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

I took my car in for the ignition switch recall repair and I ended up paying $205. 00 for a new battery because the car didn't run for approximately 3 months while waiting for parts to become available. They (david Chevrolet in niagara falls NY) told me that gm was not covering the cost of the batteries and that this had happened to 4 or 5 other people. In addition to this they said that they had to replace a part for the power steering that was covered under another recall. I can't believe they charged me $65. 00 in labor charges to put in the battery. When I finally got the car home ,I automatically locked the doors. Guess what, the new ignition keys don't unlock the trunk or the car doors. They forgot to tell me this. I don't believe gm is really trying to rectify this situation, because it took so long for the parts to come in, my battery became totally useless and cost me over $200. 00. I will never buy any type of vehicle from any of gm's lines, in fact, I will buy a foreign brand because I no longer feel safe with this car. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, brenda bors.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2014

In regards to campaign id number 14v-047. I have been in touch with customer service twice, once on 3/13/14 and the other on 3/14/14. Both times the rep stated that a message was left at my local dealership. I also called the dealership on 3/13/14 in the evening and 3/14/14 during the day. I left messages both times. I never got a call back from the dealership. I realize there may be a high volume of calls due to the recall. But I have not been offered a solution what so ever. Gm stated they would provide a loaner car in news releases and the customer service rep and the GMC dealership have done nothing to help put a loaner in place. I drive my car for work on a daily basis and do not have the means or access to another car. The bottom line is you would think that since there have been fatalities and many accidents related to this recall that it would be a priority to address my concern. I'm very dissatisfied.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2014

The ignition switch would not allow the key to be removed. The car was running. We had to call a locksmith to get the key out of the ignition and repair the ignition switch. I took the proper paper work to johnny londoff Chevrolet in florissantt, mo. The dealership would not accept the paper work to get reimbursed for the repaired ignition switch. The recall letter indicates that the cost to repair would be reimbursed by dealer/gm. The gm hotline was notified several times and I was told to call the dealership. The dealership would not accept the paper work and did not provide a letter indicating why the repairs would be disallowed. The cost for the repairs was 375. 00. I have the original receipts and the paper work. I can be reached at 3143486312 and email address laverne. D@sbcglobal. Net thank you,.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2013

In December, 2012 we purchased a 2007 Saturn Ion from a local dealer. Shortly after purchase we had issues with the electrical system and the ignition key which we contacted the dealer about and were reassured that it was no cause for concern, subsequently we allowed my significant other's daughter to take the vehicle to college with her as she needed a form of transportation at school. On black Friday, 2013 she encountered a minor motor vehicle accident in a parking lot where it is my understanding the vehicle shut off. I have contacted general motors and requested a courtesy vehicle for her which they had agreed to provide through the national highway traffic safety administration's web site and they state one excuse after another why they cannot do this. General motors has exhibited a complete lack of any concern for the driver's safety and they are now at the point where they want my significant other to drive 500 miles across state pick up her vehicle, take it to a dealer and pick up a rental car, which will cost her a $50 deposit and when the repair, which is a manufacturers defect, is finally completed she should do this all over again without any compensation from gm. This is totally unacceptable and in complete conflict with what gm has told the NHTSA they would do. At this point in time, I respectfully request NHTSA investigate this matter and propose an agreeable resolution.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2013

My Saturn had been idling roughly for about a week. I checked the oil it seemed low and I put more oil in. It seemed a little better. The check oil light has never come on in this car. After taking the car down and back to my parents it would not turn on. Two car dealers have told me it is the timing chain and that it needed a new engine with parts and labor 25,00. 00 dollars. I bought the car in 2011 in October. I now have a car I have to keep making payments on to keep my credit rating safe but I can't drive. So far GMC and the dealers have been unhelpful with getting my car repaired. I can't afford 2500. Dollars. I went to the bbb and was told that my car aged out of the complaint system. I haven't had this car 5 years and it hasn't reached 100,00. 00 miles and it is unusable with a repair that is more than it is currently worth.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

Unable to change the cabin mode airflow from defrost to feet to sides, cable disengaged, gm has discontinued the part for sedan, part number 5240994901 941476, unable to find acceptable replacement part at any gm parts dealers/sellers around country. If one cannot change the direction of the airflow one cannot defrost for visibility. This part covers 2003-2007 Ions, the car is only 8 years old, if that.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

Early in 2013, we noted some moisture in the trunk of this vehicle. In late may, we hung a "damp rid" desiccant device in the trunk and noted that the "damp rid" device rapidly saturated with moisture and also formed clumps and/or crystals in the trunk of the auto. (the "damp rid" in the trunk was saturated within two weeks, whereas it takes a couple of months when hanging inside a closet in the house 1-888-326-7743). This week, I inserted a brand new 9 volt battery into a kidde model number kn-coeg-3 carbon monoxide/explosive gas monitor and placed the monitor in the trunk. Within 24 hours, the monitor was chirping. The peak level of gas after 24 hours in the trunk of the car was 10. (this household monitor can not discriminate the precise type of gas in this particular case). Today, I opened the trunk and cleaned everything out. The source of the moisture was clearly noted on the passenger side inside of the trunk because the interior of the trunk was actually muddy close to a one way flapper vent/valve on the passenger side. The one way valve measures around 4 inches high and 6 inches long. I am reporting this because of the proximity to the gas tank filler cap on the passenger side, 12 volt ac delco battery on the passenger side in the trunk, and auto emissions from this Saturn and other cars. Inhalation of any or all of these fumes or vapors can lead to health problems including erratic behavior, drowsiness, etc. Of course the risk of explosion and corrosion of sensitive electrical and fuel components is accelerated in damp conditions.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2013

Had been having trouble with the key sticking and the car not turning off for a week. Today after parking I could not turn the car off at all, the key was stuck tight. I called my husband drove the car home, he couldn't turn the car off and he's a car and airplane mechanic. Finally got a hold of dealership where the service manager felt sorry for me and told me to bring the car in immediately, he could not turn the car off. They eventually were able to turn the car off, but the replacement tumbler and keys will cost me $230 because-of course-my warranty ran out. I think that gm should be responsible for the repair costs because it is a design flaw with potential serious consequences and safety issues including but not limited to someone leaving a running car in a closed garage because unlike me, they could not find a knight in shining armor or alternatively battery removal could damage the computer systems or a spark caused by uneducated removal of the battery could cause a battery explosion or electrical fire. The Saturn is not the only gm product with this problem and a brief search on google, showed that many owners are paying a wide range of repair bills for this problem.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2013

I experienced sudden loss of control of my 2007 Saturn Ion while traveling at 35-40 mph. I swerved back and forth 3 times before crashing front end into a mountain (rock wall). No driver airbag deployment. No passenger airbag deployment. Complete/total loss of vehicle. No reported injuries.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

An accident occured when a vehicle pulled out in front of me. I was travelling 50-55 mph and had time to briefly apply the breaks. The resulting collision destroyed the entire front end of my car. I was shocked the airbag did not deploy but at the time was unaware my car had serious potential safety issues. Since becoming aware of the recall I have been able to simulate the ignition failure by jostling the key in the ignition while the car is running. I have followed the instruction sent to me by gm in regards to the recall process and have heard nothing back from my gm dealer 3 months since calling to arrainge bringing my vehicle in. I was simply informed they would call me when the part comes in. In the mean time, I am extremely conscious of the fact that my car does indeed fail. I actually say a quick prayer every time I get in the car now because I'm scared. I am scared of the possibility that I could be responsible for hurting or killing someone while driving a vehicle I am fully aware can fail. Gm will call me back soon, I hope.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2013

The vehicle will not turn completely off out of the "acc" position when stopped. The gear shifter has to be "played with" for a while and then maybe it will engage. Otherwise the car will stay in the acc position . Of course the doors cannot be locked because the car won't shut off.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2012

After driving my vehicle for approximately five miles, I placed the car in park and turned the key back to turn the vehicle engine off. The key turned back and I was able to take the key out, but the engine did not turn off. I brought the vehicle to a gm dealer and was told the cause of this issue was a faulty ignition lock cylinder assembly. The dealer replaced the lock cylinder, which was apparently not under warranty, but could be related to the recall that gm is now issuing, revolving around the faulty ignition. During this visit, the dealership checked to see why my check engine light was coming on and it was found to be valve assembly at fault in the secondary air system. Could this have been caused from the faulty ignition and having to disconnect the battery to stop the engine, which in turn through the entire computer off in the vehicle? when all was said and done, my bill for parts, labor and tax was $916. 98. Less than six months later, the ignition lock cylinder assembly had to be replaced for the second time. Due to it being less than six months, I was not charged for this replacement. Although the vehicle's engine did not stop running as in the current 2014 recall, could this still be related to the same faulty ignition situation?.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

The key gets stuck in the ignition when turning the car (Saturn Ion 2007) off. I turn off the car and cannot get the key out of the ignition. It is happening more and more and getting more and more difficult to finally get the key to release. From reading complaints online, this is happening to a lot of Saturn owners and needs to be addressed by gm for a recall.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

I have contacted Saturn about the seat belt issue and they refuse to do anything about it. The belt will not click or unclick when putting the seat belt on. My heating and cooling system fan does not want to work unless I put the fan onto number 3 and it is drawing too much power from the battery. I just need these fixed for safety reasons.
