Saturn Ion, base model ongoing wiring/electrical issues since December 2006 to presently. The reduced power light comes on and I lose acceleration in traffic situations. First occurrence in December 2006, the pedal actually accelerated in rush hour traffic. I averted an accident. Started at 21k, under warranty until 60k. Now at 47k, and problem still not corrected. It is in the shop right now for the sixth time for electrical/wiring issues regarding reduced power. I picked the vehicle up from the dealer on June 20, 2008. The dealer rewired the ecm sensor and drove 554 miles to test the vehicle. However, on July 1, 2008, the failure recurred. The check engine light comes on and the vehicle loses power. I have on several occasions averted traffic hazards when the reduce power comes on. I have had two different dealerships for Saturn try to repair it, to no avail. It is in the shop now again. They won't guarantee that they will fix the wiring issues to complete satisfaction. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle when the reduce power and the accelerator pedal continues to be defective. They have replaced sensor, modules, wiring connectors, computer updates, accelerator pedals. It will happen again, and I will be concerned for mine and others safety.
Was driving vehicle from my house to my work and I noticed suddenly that whenever I took my foot off the gas even slightly or applied more pressure to the gas pedal tht the vehicle would lose power and jerk back a little bit. I work for gm and get alot of calls from cust's about concerns, but I never thought I'd actually say that I for the 1st time in my life did not feel safe in my vehicle, especially knowing that my vehicle would die or break down at any moment leaving me stranded. Nothing has been done to fix this concern, but one things are taken care of and hopefully corrected I will update things.
While applying the accelerator pedal vehicle hesitated for a couple of seconds then surged forward.

While driving accelerator pedal, which was not bolted down, came off, causing the driver to lose shoe and it was wedged between the floorboard and the pedal. There was nothing there to secure the pedal. There were no end caps to keep the pedal in place. Consumer asked for another vehicle equal in value to the one that was purchased. Dealer offered consumer a vehicle of lesser value because they could not locate one of the same value.

Vehicle is experienced delayed acceleration. As a result when entering a highway vehicle will not accelerate until twenty seconds after applying the pedal.
Vehicle involved in a crash and air bags did not deploy. The consumers daughter was involved in 2 incidents with this vehicle. The daughter was hit by a harley davidson f150 truck in the first incident where she turned and the harley hit her in the front passenger side and the second incident occurred when the daughter drove 4 miles, and parked, then fifteen minutes later the gas pedal stuck and she was unable to release it. The brakes had become inoperative. The vehicle was placed in park along with the emergency brake and shut off. (duplicate report - see odi ref. No. 10074368 ).
While releasing the accelerator pedal vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. Driver applied the brake pedal and the vehicle continued to accelerate. Driver was able to maintain control of vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection numerous times. However, the mechanic could not duplicate the problem. This information was provided by susan's mother brenda o'brien.
Consumer found it difficult to depress the horns button when needed due to its location. This made it impossible to warn other motorist in a emergency situation. Also, when accelerating on wet surface tires will spin but vehicle will not accelerate.
I bought a Saturn Ion 3 on July 11, 2003. My car's accelerator has basically not worked and my car has essentially died on three occasions -- one of them on the highway. I have taken my car into repairs three times to Saturn pensacola and Saturn has failed to fix it because they cannot "duplicate" my concern. I am mainly concerned with getting this car fixed or if it is not fixable for me to get a replacement car. This car is a danger to me and others around me! they are not fulfilling their terms of my extended warranty. Saturn corp rep diane wants me to travel to another Saturn facility myself to get this car fixed. That is outrageous because the next nearest facility is over 60 miles away! they refuse to tow the vehicle to mobile or montgomery. And, they refused to loan me a car or tow my car to the pensacola service center when my car died the second time on sept. 13. The "customer service" and treatment I have been given by Saturn corp and the dealership is extremely poor. I have reported this issue to the state attorney general's office as a lemon as well as the bettter business bureau, NHTSA, consumer affairs, general motors (who owns Saturn), etc. I feel extremely let down by Saturn because I owned a Saturn previous to this one for 2 years and was extremely loyal to the vehicle. A CO-worker at my job is also having the same problems with her 2003 Ion. In fact, I wanted Saturn to compare my Saturn issue to my CO-worker's issue (who is bringing her car in today) and Saturn basically threatened me that if I did not pick up my car (which was still in the shop) and return their loaner (which I still had) that they would report the loaner as stolen. Do not buy a Saturn Ion. Saturn "customer service" is a big joke.
