Driving on I-95 in richmond va on Aug. 28 at approximately 8:30 pm. Heard a loud bang on my roof. I was not near an overpass and did not see any debris on road. Using my rear-view mirror I observed a large dark object flying off the roof. At first I thought it was a rock but I now believe it to be a large chunk of my glass sunroof flying off. I believe my sunroof exploded.

The warning chimes and audible turn signal indicators stopped working. While the headlight on when vehicle is shut off or key left in switch will not cause any safety problem (I don't think), not having the turn signal clicking may lead to driving with a signal left on while driving straight. The other potential problem is that the sound chime no longer works to indicate that the seat belts are not fastened which could cause one to drive without seat belt and increase potential injury in case of a crash.
Sunroof glass shattered. While backing out of the drive I heard a thump on the roof of the car. Then while driving down the road I began to notice pieces of glass flying off the car. When I got of the car I saw pieces of glass on the inner cover of the sunroof.

It is difficult to get the key out of the ignition. I have to turn the wheel all the way to the right, then 1 turn to the left. I have already had recall 14063 and 14113 performed on my car. I told the mechanic about it, and it worked correctly for a couple of weeks then went back to not letting me get the key out of the ignition unless the steering wheel is turned a certain way. This happens when I am try to leave after I park.

My mechanic told me to report this problem. I have a 2003 Saturn Ion and as I was driving the clutch pedal snapped up almost to the dash. I was barely able to get my leg up high enough to push it back down to shift. It would stay down for awhile then do it again sometimes as high sometimes about half way up. The pedal needed to be replaced. The car has 109,000 miles on it. He had a hard time getting parts for it because it was out of stock and on back order at most places. This is a real safety issue because when it first happened I completely missed the clutch and just pulled it out of gear without shifting. The pedal was up by the dash and my foot went under it. I am glad I wasn’t on a highway. Since the parts are on back order my mechanic thinks it might need a recall.
My car began with my ignition switch sticking and I received a recall notice in the mail so I took it to be corrected. . . . After supposably being fixed I'm still having the same problem. Now about 5 months ago I started smelling a faint smell of gas. . . Now its so severe I can't drive the car. It's actually dripping onto the ground. It takes 3 or more times to get it to crank. The gas mileage has gone down from 30 to nothing. From the VIN search my car isn't included in the recall for this which is ridiculous. I don't have the money to have this fixed. I don't understand why gm isn't taking responsibility for this. Lives are at stake here. Please help.
After the car is stopped and placed in park, the engine can be shut off but the key stays in a accesory mode and can not be turned to off or removed from the ignition.

Per past recall, my ignition switch was replaced. Previously, ignition keys were being chewed up, and that is again the case. Key locks in place & will not turn (over) for several tries.
My car set a code for what I researched has a recall and I just purchased this car Jan. 16, 2015. How do I take care of this as it could be a horrible problem. It needs fixed.

I am the owner of a 2004 Saturn Ion. I have had the ignition swich replaced due to a recall. However the key is still sticking in the ignition. I have had this problem prior to the recall and I still have it. It happens not often but enough to be annoying. I have to move the key back and forth and eventually the key will come out. I would like to know if there is a recall for that kind of problem.
My seat belts will no longer buckle. My shift gets stuck in park and jumps into other gears(neutral) and the car revs on it's own without putting foot on gas. My shift is doing the exact same thing as the recall for the aura and the dealer wants to charge me $700. 00 in repairs and the parts are on back order for 6 months. I do not have my VIN# at this time. Please check with herb chambers Saturn -warwick, ri.
2007 Saturn Ion consumer is seeking reimbursement for repairs.
I had received a recall letter from gm for my 2003 Saturn Ion December 2014: gm recall # 14632 which states "that my vehicle's transmission shifter may not properly transmit an electrical signal that allows the ignition key to be turned counter clockwise past the accessory mode to the lock position after the vehicle has been shifted into park. " this is happening to my car and I have taken it in for the repair on 5 different occasions to 2 different dealerships and it fails the very next day. I have a reference # that I filed with gm and the sr advisor recommended that I try a different dealership which I did but the issue remains. I have tried to call back the sr advisor but I continue to get voicemail and she has not returned my call. I am not sure what to do if gm issues a recall and they cannot repair the default.
There was not an accident . The key will not come out of the ignition when you turn the key back, you have to wait for a while then it will finally come out. This is after the recall that fixes the ignition switch.
This car was repaired under the recent general motors ignition switch recall in June of 2014. We are still having problems with the ignition. The key will periodically get stuck in the ignition, (you can turn the key to the acc position, but it will not go to the off position). In order to remove the key from the ignition you must restart the vehicle and turn it off again, usually after the 3rd of 4th try the key will go into the off position and the key can be removed. There are times when this does not work. There is an ignition release button located beneath the steering wheel, the ignition will turn to the off position when you stick your finger into the hole and push the button. However, I have received a slight shock when pushing this button. We are also concerned the other problems associated with the ignition recall will also still be present.
Vehicle was in for recall on ignition switch, at the dealership changed oil and conducted multipoint inspection of vehicle. Eight weeks later vehicle was returned for service for smell of gas, dealership reported all gas lines corroded and leaking gas and need to be replaced, dealership states not releated to fuel filter corrosion recall (nthsa 04v003000) even though recall service not performed. Corroded, leaking gas lines make vehicle unsafe to operate and have the potential for fire. Believe this should be a recall as operating the vehicle with leaking gas lines put me and my family in danger. Not mention the $1000 plus repairs vehicle.
My vehicle had 3 recalls from gm. After the defects were repaired on 10-8-14, the vehicle still has problems. The key ignition is still defective. Most of the times, when I park the car the key doesn't come out. I have to turn on and off the car to have it remove. I feel so unsafe on this car. I contacted gm and was given a case file# 71-1372088588, which to this date hasn't contacted me. I called again today, and was advised that they assigned a senior advisor to my case named tony at 1-866-790-5600 ext# 21746, which did not response. I spoke with a customer service rep names pierre and she stated that he was not responding and offered to transferred my call to his voice mail, which I did. I waited for so long for the parts, driving an unsafe car because I didn't want it to take advantage of the situation. However, on 9-6-14, I had to drive the car to the dealership, because the power steering failed in the middle of the highway. It was very scary. I got a rental for 1 month until they repaired the car. However, it seems that the problem persists and it is not fair for me. I need a reliable car. I need them to provide me with another car.
The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA recall (ignition switch). After recall replacement, when parking and turning the vehicle off, the key would not release from the ignition. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000. Dealer said it has nothing to do with recall repair, to fix about $500. 00.
The gear shift button that must be depressed in order to put the car into any gear has come off. The button can be replaced, but must be properly lined up and can immediately fall off again. This could cause a real safety issue if it occurred in traffic.
My car was recalled for 2 things - ignition and power steering. I was provided a rental by gm in the interim of getting my car fixed. It has been 3. 5 months and I still do not have my vehicle. I have been told by the dealership on two separate occasions that my car is ready for pickup. I was told that my car battery had died and that in order to get it, I would need to pay $200 to fix the battery or have the car towed out of the lot. I was not happy about this, but figured that I would go to the dealership to evaluate the state of my car in the morning. I called 5 times throughout the day, and left three messages for the service manager. I did not hear anything else about my car for several days. I received a voicemail from anthony's employee, steve. He acknowledged my frustration and informed me "not to worry about paying for the rental" and that "we were waiting until we heard from you to submit the recall fix to GMC. " anthony never called. A week later, I received a voicemail from someone else at the dealership stating my car was ready. I called anthony and he stated "you have a bill for $200 for the battery replacement, and I believe the car has a new pump for the power steering recall. " I called Saturn customer service number to address my concerns about both the charge for the battery, and the fact that when I run a VIN search on my car, the power steering recall shows up as "incomplete. " she did not have an answer. She said the recall VIN search has a "lag time," and had no reason fornotmentioning thisbefore. Throughout this, anthony had said "I believe the power steering pump has been replaced,"but a VIN search shows the recall as incomplete, and according to gms own documents, a pump was never part of the recall remedy. I have no reason to believe my car is fixed, and I am being given no alternative to this $200 charge, which I never approved.
My Saturn was at the dealer for the gm ignition recall. The dealer told me my fuel lines were rotted and leaking. I thought this odd since the car was at the mechanic's for a rusted exhaust the week before. I called my mechanic from the dealer and he said to bring the car back that day. He found the leaking lines. Total cost of repairs $567. 42 since all gm parts were purchased. The dealer had to have known to look for this problem, leading me to believe it's a known issue.
While driving in pre-dawn hours (headlights & defrosters on), started smelling something melting or burning. Then instrument panel lights went out for a few seconds. Instrument panel lights then came back on & started flashing on & off really fast. At that same time, door locks started locking & unlocking repeatedly on their own. Burning & melting smell was getting stronger. As I was pulling over, I entered a more well-lit area and saw smoke accumulating indide car near roof & top of windshield. Shut car off immediately.
This car has a manuel transmission. I tried to put it in gear to back out of the drive way and it wouldn't budge. So I let it roll backwards in neutral to the street. I pumped the clutch to see if that would work. It wouldn't go into first gear when I would try to get it in gear it would slowly move forward even though it wasnt in gear. I checked the fluid levels and they were fine. I turned off the car and tried to put it in first it went into first gear just fine and when I turned the ignition on, it lunged me forward. I drove about 25 feet while trying to change into second gear, it wouldn't budge. So I had to turn off the car again so it would go into first gear then I started it up and it lunged me forward again. I needed to turn around to get back to the house because something was clearly wrong. I tried once again to put it in second, same problem I had to turn it off then throw it in first and start it up real quick. I finally got it in second gear and drove it home. I stayed idling in second gear in front of my house for about 5-7 min. Then I tried to go and it worked, it went into gear with ease, and changed into all the other gears with ease as I dove through the neighborhood just like it was a brand new car again & all day like nothing had ever happened. Now every morning since the same thing has happened so I take the same steps, I pump the clutch and let it sit about 5 min. And end up spplying pressure to get it into gear and it will work all day until this morning. It will still go into gear when its off and starts the same way as I explained but now after waiting the 5-7 min before I take off it still wont go into gear or "fix itself" like it did before. Have many people complained about this? I've been the only owner of this car and reported it to my local dealer, it will cost $115. 00 just for them to diagnose it and im on a limited income.
We own a 2004 Saturn Ion. The key failes to release from the ignition switch even though repeated attempts are made to release same. We waite from 5mins to one hour before trying same and key finally is released independently. The failure occurs continuously. The vehicle was repaired recently (8-23-14) under the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 14v171000 (electrical system). Dealer was advised of the above problem and we were told this was not associated with same. Dealer advised this was a faulty shifter problem and even though they were aware of this issue we were still responsible for cost ($576) of repairs. Dealer advised that this problem would in fact get worse. This should be manufacturer responsibility especially since dealer admission that they (gm) were aware of this constant problem with malfunction shifter in this type of vehicle.
I went to start my car to go to work and the key would not move in the ignition. Not one millimeter. I checked that the wheels were straight, checked that it was in park. Still no movement. Meaning I was not able to move the key forward or backward. After trying at the minimum 15 times, I called triple a and then my husband. He told me to cancel triple a and contact the dealer and have them deal with it. As it was only 7:15 and I had to wait until the dealer opened at 9:00. I sat and kept trying to get the key to move. Around 8:00 it just suddenly moved forward and the car started. I guess I am filing this complaint because gm installed that whole ignition part thing on my car about 2 months ago. I'm afraid to call them because what could I say? the car starts fine now. But I don't see how I can have any piece of mind worrying that this might occur at any time or anyplace. I have also been waiting for 2 months for a safety recall part(safety recall#14115) for power steering that may suddenly be loss. I have called gm several times to request a rental or loaner vehical and have been told that I am safe in the car and if I am "going fast" I am "safer". I am extremely nervous that I could be involved in a crash or worse and drive the car everyday with a feeling of dread.
Our insured was on I-10 metairie and hestated that they were traveling down I-10 and the vehicle in front of them hit the brakes and came to a complete stop. Our insured slowed and insd insured's steering wheel failed and went right and then he lost control and went to the left hand lane from the right lane across 4 lanes/ our driver did not have control of his vehcile at this time. Our insured was trying to make it to the shoulder and he was almost there and then another vehcile struck his vehcile. Our insured was cited for reckless driving. Our claim number is pa1282552.
In traveling on the highway the hood blew open and smashed the front windshield and we were lucky to safely slow down, cross 3 lanes of traffic by looking out of the back window as obviously there was no visibility. . Just the hood. In inspection we noticed that the latch was corroded and rusted and detatched from the top plate leaving no hood security. The top latch is still locked in place. This could have been a fatal incident but god was definatly by our side!.
After being verbally told and in writing that everything was fine with my car after the ignition recall kit was installed, my check engine light came on before I could even exit the service dealership lot. I immediately returned the car to their service department which resulted in going from no charges, everything is ok, to my car mysteriously may have a cylinder 1 misfire and it will cost me $2,000 to repair. General motors has and continues to give me the run around by placing me on hold and transferring me to call centers in india. This nightmare I have endured since 6/6/2014 to now is a shame and outright criminal in my opinion. I never post on sites like these but wanted to notify other Saturn owners who worked hard to own and up keep their cars.
Keys can not be removed from the ignition of the 2005 Saturn Ion. Research indicated that gm has this problem across several of its small car brands and models. The inability to remove the keys causes the battery to drain. It also leaves the car vulnerable to theft as the car can be started again. Gm allegedly recognizes it as a problem with upwards of 88,000 vehicles. Articles written by mike colias in automotive news indicated that gm, being very well aware of the issue prompted gm to offer a "special coverage adjustment" in which they would repair the car for free, but not recall the affected cars. A local gm dealer was not aware of this special coverage adjustment and was not willing to repair the car for free, although they did say they would do more research on the problem. The problem only surfaces when the car is stationary and it will shut off. But if going away with the car or stopping for gas or errands forces you to leave the keys in the car, in addition to draining the battery it becomes a large target for theft.
I have had issues with my car even after I have had some recalls done to it. The biggest issue is when I am driving or stationary with my car on, the car rumbles and feels like it is tugging backwards. The cylinder 2 keeps misfiring (p0302). I have seen several Saturn Ions that are having the same issue. Over the past four years this has been a problem consistently. There are periods where it doesn't happen much and sometimes it happens every time I drive. Furthermore, my car still doesn't turn on/off all the way sometimes and the ignition switch messes up.
I received a recall notice for the ignition switch & ignition lock cylinder and ignition key. Contacted the local GMC dealer and they say they don't have the parts. It's been about 3 months since I contacted them. The GMC dealer Buick GMC at 361 n. Switzer canyon, flagstaff, az (phone 928-774-1472). Last week I received a post card from GMC saying that their records indicated that I had not serviced the car for the recall notice. They urge me to take care of the problems. The issue is that the dealer says they don't have the parts. I haven't had any incidents thus far with the car. I ride the public bus to work.
Took my Saturn in yesterday for the recall on the ignition switch-got a phone call from the dealer saying that the housing for the switch also needs replacing, but gm will not cover it and I need to pay for that part and the labor. The switch can not be replaced unless this housing is replaced, but now they want me to pay for it even though the recall says this should be at no cost to me. I called gm and they are saying that the housing is not covered in the recall. According to the recall information, I should be able to get reimbursed for having to replace the switch, but first I had to replace it again, which is what I was trying to do. What can I do about this? it does not make since to me. Have me do the recall and then attach a charge for it because you can not do it unless you replace something else. Is the not a problem of a "causal part"? if this not a problem for your agency, please refer me to an agency that can handle this. I am currently awaiting more information from the gm dealer, fremont Chevrolet. As of now, they have my Saturn torn apart and are "thinking" of what they can do for me.
Vehicle was delivered to local car dealership for gm factory warranty recalls. The car was being driven by two service technicians when the vehicle ignited in the trunk and rear seat area. The fire department determined that the cause of the fire were the rear break lines that had sagged onto the exhaust system. Service technicians were unaware of the work to be done on the vehicle. The vehicle was supposed to receive NHTSA recalls 14v047, 14v171, and 14v153. None of the recalls were furnished while in the possession of the car dealership and could possibly have contributed to the fire.
The gas pedal gets stuck while driving and the check engine light comes on. Car will not exceed 5 mph even if the pedal is pushed to the floor. Car must be turned on and off 3 times for the pedal to go back to normal. Another incident is the car will stall when stopping at a light or stop sign. Turns back on with no problem. I have had all recalls performed.
Car stalled then ran again fine. Thought maybe bad gas or something. Started hearing a loud noise in the engine. Change oil came on and so I took it in to be serviced only to find out the timing chain had jumped keys. This is a terrible issue which could have caused me to wreck had I not had plenty of room to coast off the road. Also seat belt is stuck and will not unbotton so I am unable to buckle up the right way until thats fixed too. Looking online all of this seems to be a common problem however it appears people have to die from it before a recall is given. I urge an investigation into the seatbelts and the timing chain.
