1 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2005 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 06/11/2013

My husband was driving my 05 Saturn Ion 2 quad coupe home from work on the interstate. Traffic stopped , came to complete stop vehicle behind did not brake and rear ended my vehicle at roughly 50+ mph causing him to hit another vehicle in turn causing a 6 vehicle accident. The air bags did not deploy causing his head to hit the steering wheel and the driver seat broke in half with him in it landing on the back seat.

2 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2004 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 02/21/2005

The driver of the car in front of me stopped suddenly to avoid hitting the car in front of her, and I rear ended her. It was a minor accident - only going approximately 30 mph - so minor that the airbags didn't deploy. Both of my rear seats, however, came unlatched and flew forward, pushing my daughter's car seat into the rear of the passenger front seat, even with the seat belt being looped through the shoulder harness of the car seat. Thankfully, she was not in the car at the time. I called Saturn to report it. They spoke with the collision center where my car is being repaired, and were told that they couldn't find anything broken that could be fixed. The collision center also told them that they tried to get the seats unlatched by pulling on them from the front and by trying to kick them from inside the trunk, neither of which simulates what would happen in an actual car accident, with that kind of inertia. The person who inspected my car told me that it's possible that something in the trunk unlatched the locks during the accident. Saturn told me there is nothing they can do. I even spoke with a supervisor. I even asked if they could somehow install a better lock to make sure the seats wouldn't unlatch. They told me over and over that there is nothing they can do because nothing is broken. But something is obviously wrong for the seats to have come unlatched. At this time, I still feel that my rear seats are unsafe and have not gotten my car back from the collision center.

3 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2004 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 11/20/2004

Problems: a. Air bags didn't deploy . B. Driver's seat collapse and dent rear-ended while stopped at a railroad crossing. Upon impact seat flew back, hit back seat and dented. Our stopped car was then pushed into the stopped vehicle in front. Our car was smashed at front and back and neither front nor side airbags deployed. No skid marks reported and no brakes applied by offending car so our 2004 Saturn Ion took the full impact and was sandwiched between a camry from behind and a GMC jimmy in front. Woman in jimmy taken by ambulance to hospital since she was pregnant. My son driving the Saturn had his wife pick him up and proceeded to e/r where he was diagnosed with cervical strain. Driver of camry had her husband pick her up. All 3 vehicles were towed. Our Saturn will most likely be totaled. We took pictures as did the police in spokane, wa. .
