This is the second time this has happen. My key is stuck in the ingition and wont turn off. I believe gm should help resolve this ongoing problem with these ingition switches. For some reason I was unable to put the date that this first happen, (may, 2011) and now again this week.

Out of nowhere, when I turned my car off the key would not come out. I have read about this problem with 06 Ion's several times and believe it needs investigated. Thank you!.

The key is stuck in the on position in the ignition and the car can not be shut off. I found a consumer affairs web site that has 7700 listings for this problem. . Read more...
My ignation switch has been replaced 3 times in 4 years, costing $350. 00 every time. It keeps going out. Now my fuel pump is leaking. I looked up and found 3 different website showing recalls on the fuel pump for my year, make, and model of my car. Saftycar. Gov, motortrend. Com, and usedcars. Com. I call both gm and Saturn number which were provided and they tell me there no recalls for my vechicale. Now it going to cost $600 to fix my problem. The sad thing is I have to fix it or my car can blow up. I urge people not to buy Saturn they are no good.
I am beginning to believe that the issue with the Saturn Ion is an electical or computer based. I put in a complaint earlier about how the car shuts off in the middle of making turns. This morning as I went to work I was met with the automatic steering not working. At first I thought that maybe the emergency break was still up. I checked my steering fluid and it is full. I turned the car off and then on again and tried to move the wheel. No dice. I drove the car to work fighting with the steering all the way there. When I got to work I called for assistance to get my car to a shop. After making the arrangements, I went to try to straighten up the vehicle somewhat so that others could park beside me and so the towing company could get it out. To my amazement the car steering worked fine. There are several complaints on the web about this issue, the key getting stuck in the ignition, the key being removed from the ignition and the car engine continuing to run anyway, and the shutting off while going over tracks and making turns with the Saturn Ion 2004-2007. Please get GMC to fix these issues. What makes me really angry is that the company knows, they simply are avoiding fixing the problems and only focus on the fuel pump problem. Somebody is going to get killed sooner or later btw the shutting off issue or the steering wheel issues. I hope you guys look into these issues and demand that GMC fixes them before then. Thanks.
Whilst driving, my car would accelerate on it's own going almost 45-50mph. Pressing the brakes would barely do anything. It won't start when it thinks it's too cold outside, I've had the battery tested multiple times and it is fine. Also, when trying to stop the car and take the key out of the ignition it resists a lot. Happens multiple times a week.

On 9/27/2011 I was unable to turn the key to the off in my ignition. The car stayed on and I cannot remove the key from the on position. There are thousands of complaints online regarding the very same problem with the Saturn Ion. This is a safety problem and is very dangerous. This vehicle and/ or part must be recalled.
Key ignition - key will not turn to "off" position, car stays on. Had to remove fuse and disconnect battery in order for the car to turn off and alt go off.
After driving this car for several years I never knew that so many Saturn drivers had my issues. The car has a strange knock in the back. It sounds like it is coming from the trunk. There are often strong smells of gasoline. It has begun to capture the key. I have to fight with it to get the key out and now it has started to cut off while I am driving. The latest incident is what I am writing about which is a cut off while driving. I made a slow left turn and the car promptly shut off on me while I was going up the hill. It occured when I first got the vehcile, it has occured at least 5 times since with this morning being the most recent time. It is increasing in between cut offs. It cut off on me only 2 weeks ago as I made a right and went up a hill.
My key has gotten stuck in the ignition in the "on" position three times now. I have had to purchase the pay for parts and labor three times. My ball joints have gone out. Mechanics say this is very odd for a newer vehicle (2006 Saturn).
The key is stuck in the ignition switch and the car will not turn off . The key even came out of th ignition switch and the car will not turn off . This could be a very big safety issue . . Single mothers have these cars I am one of them and there are complaints all over the internt about this problem . Safety or health issue daughter taking baby to fr and key wont come out stuck in the iginition switch she can not take the baby into his drs appointment . My car has been running over four hours no one can get it to turn off --disconectingthe battery does not turn the car off . There are no dealerships or mechanics open and now car running for over 5 hors and is extremly hot --ended up having to remove the fuel fuse and kill the fuel running to the car--- this is the only thing that killed my engine . . This could be a very big issue for owners when happens after hurs . What other option is availblae --leave it running lock ot and hope someone does not steal the car and that it gets put in drive bu a child.
For the second time in a little over two years, my key got stuck in the ignition and I could not get it out or turn off my engine. It happened when I stopped for gas. I have a stick shift and so I stalled the car in order to stop it from running. I had to leave the key in the car and, thankfully, had another key to lock the car door when I wasn't in it. The cost to repair by the dealer was between $500 and $600. The first time I paid $100 but I was still under warranty. The repair is being done locally by a mechanic for $300. They have to take apart the steering wheel so that they can get to the ignition. It is a tumbler problem within the ignition. This has to be replace.
On June 19th 2011 my 2007 Saturn Ion wouldnt shut off the ignition was locked into the run position. Since my vehicle is a stick I simply killed it but the electronic accesories were still stuck on. I had to go purchase a new igniton cylinder and install it in order to get my vehicle working again. This is a known problem and was recalled on other gm vehicles that share the same platform but not on the Saturn Ions.
June 12-my car received complimentary maintenance. At which point, the car would not start. The body control was replaced. After moving over 1800 miles, the car would not start. June 16-had it serviced again and to my knowledge, the car had been damaged during servicing at dealership ( dropped off foot jack and damaged radiator and ac condenser). June 17-after commuting 80 miles and the passing of 9 hours, the car would not start again. Then after 3 hours, it started ( as I was in an unfamiliar location). June 21-its 8 am and I am about to leave for work, the car would not start. Took the car to the dealership after it started 3 hours later, riding in anti-theft mode. Left the car overnight and had to get a rental. June 24- picked up the car and the dealer could not determine the issue and assumed that it had been absolved. June 30- 7 am. The car would not start again for 4 hours. Took the car to the dealership, could not determine the issue. My car has yet to be fixed and I have been stranded in a number of unfamiliar places. Something is very wrong with the ignition because the power of the car comes on, but the engine will not communicate to come on.
My 2006 Saturn Ion will not shut off and the key is stuck in the ignition. They gm company says that it is not covered under any warrenty. I have read alot about this problem from Saturn owners and I feel that the problem needs to be addresses for safety reasons.
In the last year the ignition cylinder in my car has malfunctioned causing my car to remain on and locking the key in place. The key is unable to be removed and the car continues to run. The cylinder was replaced on 8/26/10 and malfunctioned again today 5/30/11. This appears to be a fairly common problem that Saturn has ignored. This presents a safety risk and the parts should be recalled.
I have had my 2006 Saturn Ion for 3 years. And also I have 2 children within the past year it has been to the dealership 3times to try and figure out why while driving bith the check engine lights come on and the car begins spitting and sputtering. . Making all sorts of racket with no power you are forced to try and get off the rd. Safely with no powersteering. They can not find anything wrong with it. . And also I am always told that they dont service Saturns even though they are the ones that sold it. This happens with not warning I have been stranded with my 2 girls multiple times. Once we were travling 60mph on the interstate and it happend with big rigs all around. . I thank god that we didnt get hurt. Also for the past 2 years they have been trying to figure out why when you turn the car off you hear lots of clicking noises and the car will not completely turn off. . They replaced the starter switch because that was under recall but it has made no difference still can not get the keys out have to sit there and wait for it to stop clicking and turn the key on and off multiple times to get it out. . After doing some research online a lot of people have the same problems I dont think this is a safe car at all. Contacted Saturn compnay numerous times and have gotten no where. . . Deffinately waste of my hard earned money. . .
Wh referral letter of complaint regarding Saturn and general motors unable to get parts to repair his 2006 Saturn Ion. The consumer stated the dealer knows what the problem is concerning the vehicle, but Saturn was not producing the part and was unable to give the consumer an answer as to when it would be available.
2006 Saturn Ion redline 32,000 miles had a loud rattling noise coming from the front passenger side of car at idle. Took the car into a mechanic which informed me that the the timing belt and gears were shot and that he was surprised that it didn't fly apart on my way into the shop. The repairs will cost approx $1100. This should not happen at only 32k miles and could have resulted in an accident had it not been caught in time.
2006 Saturn leave you stranded in the cold weather as the car will not start and you have to wait till the in side of the car warms up. Car has been back to dealer I have just given up.
I got home on Friday Jan 28, and put my car in park, tried to turn the key into the off position and it wouldn't move. I sat in my driveway, freezing, waiting for a friend to come over and stop the motor, unhook the fuses, and unhook the battery. Paid for a new key cylindar, paid to have it rekeyed, and paid a locksmith to take out the old one and replace the new one. It worked for a few hours and then it did the same thing, only this time I went to go start my car, and the key just wont turn. The locksmith came back out and said he can't fix it, it is a manufactuer defect. I have read online of hundreds of others having the same problem, and I called Saturn customer service, and they said there is nothing they can do. I asked why there wasn't a recall and she couldn't tell me, I asked who would know, and she said no one. She said there is no actual person that I can talk to about that. She refused to let me speak to a supervisor. Google Saturn Ion ignition, and omg there are hundreds of people with this same defect. I worry for the mom with her babies in the car driving to the store and not being able to shut off her car. Something needs to be done about this.
Continual computer/electrical problems beginning - 1/12/10 + 1/14/10 + 12/29/10 + 6/21/11 + current problem 6/25/11 dealership charged $120 for diagnosis each incidence since 12/19/10. Current mileage 22,170.
Without notice, the car will not start. The car will start and run like it was designed too, but after the car has been turned off, there have been instants where the car will not start again. The battery is not dead, all the lights, gauges and horn will work, but no power goes to the starter. After a extended period of time, ten minutes or more, the car will start. This is a random condition, there are no warning signs of when it will not start. I have been told that there is either a glitch in the security program or there is a problem with the grease in the started switch.
When it is cold outside, my 2006 Saturn Ion does not start. It seems the sensor or chip in the ignition key is not recognized by the car and therefore, the vehicle locks and will not start. If we wait 10 minutes, it will usually start. This has not been fixed yet. It has happened 4 times and usually when the temerature is below 20 degress.
When it is cold outside, usually below freezing, my car will not start. I took it to a dealership and they replaced the ignition switch, said that this is common in Saturns. That was last week, and my car hasn't started about 8 more times since then. It's not the battery, the lights come on and all that works. I go out and try to start my car, it will not start, I will wait about 8 minutes and try again, then car will start. I work weird shifts at a hospital and sometimes I get off work and have to walk to my car in the middle of the night and my car will not start. That is definitely a safety issue.
It started with the key sticking in the ignition. Unable to remove it and had to wait for a clicking noise to know the key released. Now, intermittenly, the key will release but the engine will continue to run. The only way to stop it is to put the key back in and turn to accessory. It had done it 4 times in the past 5 days. It is now also having the power steering signal coming on the dash. The sticking key started a couple months ago, while the engine continuing to run and the power steering has been the past week.
I own a 2006 Saturn Ion and yesterday my key got stuck in the ignition and the car would not turn off. No one was able to get my key out or my car off, so I took it into the dealership and they had to replace the cylinder and it cost $430. I researched online and there are hundreds of other people having the exact same problem with these Saturns and there has not been a recall. I feel this should be a recall through Saturn, so I wanted to file a formal complaint.
I own a 2006 Saturn Ion level 2 that I bought fairly knew in 2007. I have noticed a clicking noise for several months after I put my key in the ignition to start my car. I have also noticed for several months when I try to turn my car off, that it became more and more difficult to get the key out of the switch. Just three days ago I tried to turn my car off after driving and the ignition would not shut off at all nor could I get my key out. I was stranded out of town until I could call a family member to come and figure out how to shut my car off. It took him hours before he just decided to take out the fuse and unhook the battery. After hours of trying to figure out how I can get back home safely and drive on the interstate 4 hours away from where I was visiting . I now have to start my car by hooking the ignition wire switch just so that I can have transportation. I have researched this and apparently there is a long list of Saturn owners who have had the same complaint with their vehicles since at 2007. I could not find one recall in regards to a ignition cylinder malfunction on the internet or this site. I am outraged because this is a safety issue I could have easily been driving and god knows what else could have happened. The estimated cost for this repair is about 500 to 600 dollars which is a ridiculous cost that owners should have to pay for. It need to be on the recall list immediately, this is a safety issue someone could get seriously hurt.
I own a 2005 Saturn Ion. The key continues to get stuck in the ignition. 3 different times now. I have a boat load of paper work from different shops, from them fixing (?) my car, starting with Saturn, than I had to go to the GMC dealership, due to Saturn being closed. Also, the car has stalled 3 times while I was driving it. It's an automatic. I went on line to ask a Saturn mechanic what can I do to get this fixed, and basically nothing. He said there would not be a recall due to Saturn being closed now, and it's not a safety issue. I don't know what to do if I'm unable to get it to a GMC dealership, unless there is one open 24/7 in the denver area. I'm at my whits end. I'm reporting the most recent incident, the 1st was in 2007.
Approximately one week after I purchased the vehicle I noticed a grinding noise that was not favorable and I was pretty sure it was the tranny. I purchased an extended warranty with the car so I took it to the dealer for diagnostics and repair. It was confirmed to be the tranny and they tried to put a bandaide on it by flushing it and changing the fluids. One week later same noise only louder. They replaced the tranny. 30 days after the first repair; the noise returned, they replaced some parts, in the tranny they just put in it. Just over 12,0000 miles later I was attempting to back up and the car would not go in reverse. I had it towed and the tranny was again replaced, that was just under 12,0000 miles ago and the tranny is slipping again, only now the extended warranty people say I am out of funds because they will not repair a vehicle beyond it's worth. I have had the axle replaced twice and it needs to be done again, extended warranty again say's they are done paying out on this car even though my time or mileage is not expired on the warranty. About a month ago it failed to start and because I had read this web site on consumer complaints for this car I knew to wait 5-15 min and try again. This has happened several times but so far it eventually starts. I purchased this car on credit just over a year ago to get a reliable vehicle because I work 7 days a week out of my car and it is becoming a nightmare no-one will wake me up from. And because I am upside down on the loan I cannot even trade it in for something that is reliable. For the amount of complaints I have seen there should be some recourse to the consumer. I have had the tranny replaced twice and fixed twice, the axle has been done twice and need it again. Chevy bought this company out and should have to honor the standards for a safe vehicle or stop selling them to unsuspecting buyers.
The car will be running just fine. Then all of a sudden it accelerates and wants to go fast. I put on the brakes and it does not want to stop. Then the acceleration stops by itself and the car jerks like it is missing a gear. It does this probably about 2 times per week.
