Saturn ION owners have reported 16 problems related to wheel (under the wheel category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
We have been having trouble removing the key from the ignition the past few days. As I was making a left turn the steering wheel locked then made a loud popping sound. Now the steering wheel just spins in a complete circle and does not turn the wheels. I was in motion in a parking lot.

The power steering stops working while you are driving without notice . When you are truning it is hard, also the bearing and struts are also very ruff. Almost had a wreck when turing.
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while attempting to make a turn, another vehicle crashed into the passenger's side of the contact's vehicle. The passenger's side air bag deployed. The steering lost power and the vehicle shut down. There was no warning. A police report was filed, there was no injury. The vehicle was damaged, but was not totaled. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact called the all star Chevrolet of olive branch dealer (678-829-0246, located at 7240 craft-goodman rd, olive branch, ms 38654) and was told to bring the vehicle to the shop. The contact told the technician to assist with towing but the technician did not help. Shop. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000. Fe.
I was driving in the highway at 65mph when the left rear tire blew out and the car swerved violently to the left. Thankfully there were no other cars around, and I was able to handle the steering wheel and break slowly, taking the car to the shoulder. The 4 tires were michelin defender 205/55r16 and were bought at costco on 01/2015. Supposedly they have 90,000 mile warranty. The car was not overloaded, I was the only passenger and the weather was cool.

Was traveling at approx 35mph power steering assist was lost, turned into manual steering. I am a fairly new driver, 21, so I didn't really know how to react. It happened very quickly. Hit a center island, for a lack of a better term. Called gm, they had someone inspect the car. Said there was no dtc codes detected. So there for they are calling me a liar. My parents also had this experience with this same vehicle shortly before I purchased the car. Gm refuse to make damage repairs. Only do recall repairs. I only bought the car one week before all this happened.
At approximately 3:50 p. M. Friday January 23 2015 I was slowing down from 35 mph to turn into a parking lot. Before I turned the passenger side of the car dropped and at first I thought I blew a tire. After limping the car into the parking lot I got out and the tire was still fully inflated. I noticed the lower control arm was broken into two pieces. The car was towed home and the tow truck driver even mentioned he had never seen that happen on such a new vehicle.
Highway bouncing? unbalanced feeling under vehicle? replace struts ASAP!! okay for the past 30,000 miles I have been experiencing what I could describe as a constant bounce. The bounce has now become so violent that crossing a bridge on a highway the bump will increase the aggression of the bounce to the point that you bounce right off of the road. I have slowly been trying to figure out what causes this bouncing wobble. After new rims,cv-half shafts, lugnuts, tires, stabilizer end-links, tie-rod ends, inner tie-rod ends, and ball joints. The bounce got more controllable for a short period. Not long after the new parts started to break down again. Finally during the purchase of all of these things over again. I find an instance where this exact thing happened to another individual. Driving down the highway with the constant bounce as always (4 mechanics ---- I am pretty mechanically inclined, but could not diagnose the problem) this other individual goes up on a bridge (highway speeds) and bounces straight across and right off of the highway into the ditch. Luckily in both of our cases we were able to stop the vehicle before hitting anything other than some tall grass and sliding around in the dirt a bit on the side of the highway. He takes his family and car to the nearest mechanic (they were going on vacation) and this mechanic knew exactly what the problem was. Relieved this person was that he had finally found a mechanic that solved this wretched, annoying, and odd problem I have never experienced before. The struts were completely shot. The car was not sagging according to measurements. Bumps weren't violent. After replacement of the old struts I could literally push them down with one finger. Let go and watch as they just relax in place. Anyone experiencing a highway bouncing wobble like something is unbalanced then replace your struts!!.

I was driving home early one morning and my ignition had shut off like it had many times before this time the weather conditions being snowy and slushy caused me to get stuck and the vehicle was yanked into the ditch. I had called the claims number after my car had sat at the dealership for about 2 months maybe longer and they told me since the claim was not filed as of the recall came out they are not responsible for it. There is nothing that gm can do they will not refund me for the money to replace my radiator, condenser, and cooling fan that I needed repaired at that time to make my vehicle run. I did not have money at the time to fix the cosmetic damage in the fender and the bumper so that is still broken. The claims department advised me since it was so long after the acident they could not check the vehicles records to see if the vehicle had actually shut off. Now the reason my car is sitting at the dealer ship is because this time my car was stuck running the key is in the on position and couldnt be turned off. I would like some action to be taken or someone to contact me in order to get this taken care of.
Today 8/8/12, I jumped into my 2004 Saturn Ion at 5pm after work & immediately noticed that I could not turn my wheel as I exited the parking lot, I had to swerve hard to my right to by avoid a collision with two cars from the opposite direction. I was terrified! my display showed "pwr str" I had never seen that before, I left my car diagonally parked, since it would not move went for assistance, a passerby looked under my hood for a while then turned my car on and the display was back to mileage and my wheel was working fine!! I drove my car home and immediately started to do some research to find out what it could be and how I could fix it, I find out that their is a known problem with the power steering! I have not received any letters at all. My car has been reliable up until now. It has close to 150k mil (mileage is an estimate on this form) since this appears to be a gm problem, what are my options? thank you.
Yes a few months afo I financed a 2006 Saturn Ion level 3 since the first week having it have had nothing but problems including a major gas leak and severe gas fumes inside and outside the cab when running and not. The dealer had givin me nothing but lies and the fun around and attitude. Had been documented by an outside mechanic the car in unsafe to be on the roads and should never have passed inspection which the dealer did. I really need help. I know it's a good chance it's a flood car they sold me. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
A piece of the wheel (rim) has broken out. May cause eventual air loss.
Consumer complaint concerning Saturn Ion aluminum wheels. Consumer has replaced several wheels do to them bending. ** answer required*** the consumer had a problem with the air condition leaking water on the floor of the vehicle.
We are concerned about the safety of our Saturn Ion. We purchased it in 2004, and we have had three bent aluminum wheels and now we have a broken wheel. We have brought it back numerous times to be fixed to space coast Saturn, where we purchased our Saturn only to here each time that they are not going to repair our Saturn because it is not their fault, it is ours. We are very concerned about our safety while riding in the car with our three children. I am afraid that we could have a blow out and someone could be hurt.
While driving 30 mph front right wheel locked up for unknown reason. Dealer notified, and made repairs. However, problem reoccurred.
