: the contact stated recall letter #05v245000 concerning the brake lights was received in December 2005. However, the vehicle was not experiencing any problems and was not taken to the dealer for immediate repair. Recently, the contact was alerted by another driver that the brake lights were not working. The vehicle was driven to the dealer for inspection, and the dealer installed two tail lights, reinforced socket adapters and sockets under the recall. Also, the dealer determined the brake light switch needed to be replaced, but this work has not been completed. When the vehicle was taken from the dealer, the cruise control no longer worked, the gear shift became difficult to shift into drive, and the parking lights and brake lights no longer worked. The consumer experienced sudden acceleration at various speeds. The consumer stated the the vehicle gradually accelerates after 15-20 seconds. While the vehicle was traveling 60 mph it started to accelerate for 10-15 miles before it disengaged. Cruise control was not on during the time of failure.
Cruise control would not disengage when pressing the switch or braking. Vehicle speed approximately 55 mph.
The vehicle began accelerating without touching the pedal while cruise control was on. Pressing the brake and turning off cruise control did not stop the acceleration. I had to turn the car off. The pedal felt as if it were pressed down. Upon re-start, the engine revved as if the accelerator was pushed and it was not. Second re-start after about 3 minutes left the car running normal.
When consumer pushes on the brakes the cruise control does not deactivate.
Excessive brake pedal pressure required to disengage cruise control.
While driving on moderately hilly highway, the cruise control caused the engine to go to full throttle accompanied by a transmission downshift resulting in rapid and potentially dangerous acceleration. This has occurred three times. .
