While driving, the car will automatically shift into 1st gear. Steering will then be disabled to the point of crash. Transmission/computer issue. Major issue with Saturn Outlooks.
Receiving message on dash display: engine power reduced, service stabilitrak, service traction control. Notice a sever drop in engine power and will practically not move if put in gear. Typically noticed when starting vehicle and pulling away. Can turn vehicle off for several minutes and issue is not experienced. (until the next time) there is no typical combination of events that happen before issue occurs, random. Have checked forums online and seems to be a common problem with this and other similar vehicles from gm (outlook, acadia, enclave, traverse).
The car was towed to the foulk road automotive center on February art 15th to get a transmission rebuild. Upon completion and road test the car was driven and the engine seized up during the test run after correct programming.

The vehicle's on star system performed a diagnostic on the air bags and concluded that the air bags needed to be serviced. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 93,000.
Traction control alert warning engine power reduced and the engine turns off disabling the vehicle this has happened numerous other times and gm has had the vehicle in for repairs more than 5 times and last time charged over $2000 to fix the transmission although there was a recall they would not pay for the work completely.

The technician diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
Stabilitrak traction control turned off, warning beeps came with a message saying oil pressure low, shut engine off. This is one of many issues I have encountered, among getting a new engine after buying it in 2010 6 months later, because of wave plate issues, timing chain problem, the lift gate not functioning, my husband spent $23k on the car and since then we have put thousands more into the car to have it fixed. Feel unsafe in it an disgusted at how many times I have to get it serviced.
During the car being serviced they did a service bulletin on the car that was to reprogram the ecm computer in the car for a timing chain issue. After the service the gas mileage went down and noticed the change oil calculator went down faster. Not a big deal I change my oil at 5,000 miles with synthetic blend. Wife too car and after shopping the car would not start. Found out that the timing chain snapped and broke numerous pieces in the engine. Found out after taking to the mechanic that the reprogram actual allowed more stretch in the timing chain then the factory setting. So feel like they were trying to push the issue out past the warranty period. Never was told at dealer what the reprogram did or they were having issues with the timing chain. Nothing in manual stating to change timing chain at any point. Found out after the problem happened and gm basically says it my fault I should have changed the oil more. This could become a safety issue if you are on the highway and this happens.
1) car no longer shifts out of first gear (automatic transmission). 2) car continues to run for up to 30 seconds when the key is removed. Dealer states that a water leak beginning at the sunroof leaks water onto the fuse area in the engine compartment causing failures requiring a fuse box replacement. The vehicle has had leaks leaving water on the headliner, front seats, front driver and front passenger floors in the past all repaired by the dealer under warranty. Dealer charges so far are $500 to repair the leak, $500 to replace the fusebox, and still not sure any of those repairs have resolved the two initial issues.
Wave plate broke inside the transmission. Loose metal from wave plate damaged many parts throughout the transmission. Original estimate was $3500 due to being 3 months outside warranty. Gm agreed to cover remaining bill if I paid $1100 due to the relatively low mileage (78k). One small wave plate caused thousands of dollars of damage and gm knows this is a problem with the '07, '08, '09 Saturn Outlook.
In June of 2011 my Saturn suddenly started sticking in 2nd gear on an interstate highway. There were 37000 miles n this vehicle. I was able to exit and make it to a gm dealership where the vehicle was diagnosed with a broken 3-5wave plate which was repaired under warranty. Now 15 months later I was driving at 45 miles per hour and the vehicle suddenly revved to 5000rpm and slowed to about 10 miles per hour. The vehicle was towed to a gm dealership and the control module and solenoid valve need replacement. There are now 52500 miles on this vehicle. This is a known problem and gm has made no plan to recall the vehicle for transmission issues.
We have had problems starting from a few months after purchase. Fast forward to Jan 2012 we had a major leak inside the car. Water making a "swishing" sound overhead from water storing in the headliner. Water was coming from air bags, shade covers, below the glove box, and inside the windows. Had a major leak in passenger floor. The air hasn't worked since sept. And makes a loud "hissing" sound, instrument panel just disappears, drivers side headlight goes on and off. Gm won't do anything. Took to dealer and paid $640 to fix headliner leak, but reading other posts it's a matter of time before it will leak again. All other issues still not working and all due to water leaking in. This is so scary and frustrating that nothing has been done about this. Lots of complaints for the same issues all over edmonds. Com and other sites. We can't afford to fix all this, or get rid of the car. And who would buy it with all the issues?? please help all us owners!!.
