3 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 01/24/2017

Every time it rains my car get a large amount of water inside causing a musty smell and possible mold. I have to vacuum water from the battery area, in the trunk lift it up and vacuum out and leave it to dry out in sun when available. It causes my seat belts to become wet. The passenger side of the floor is wet as well as the back seat area floor. It cause the windows to continually fog up and the defroster doesn't work properly. When I press the gas there is a hesitant sometimes and I was told by a gm service tech that is the battery losing power causing that issue. This is ridiculous that we have been told more than once from the gm service techs that there is nothing that can be done and that corporate is aware of the issue. This is not only a safety issue but health as well. My family rides around in this car.

4 Seat Belt problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 07/08/2016

Lowering the 2nd row seat backs broke the center seat belt buckle (receiver) so that the seat belt cannot be used. When I contacted my local gm dealer regarding repair and to ask if there is a lifetime warranty on the seat belts, I was told "no. The repair is $240. " please let me know if there is a lifetime warranty on seat belts or is it just good customer relations by the manufacturers such as Honda that do guarantee them. The bare steel mount has sharp edges so I put a cloth and tape over it to protect my passengers from injury. My vehicle was stationary in my garage when this occurred.

This happened on two more occasions and then I inspected the seat belt receiver cover and noticed it was cracked. I found nhsta service bulletin number 10v37500 / gm recall no. 11 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 10/12/2013

10/12/13 we had several inches of rain & the next morning I noticed the floor boards were wet. Again, the evening of 10/15 we had severe rain storms with flooding in our city. The next day when my mil & I got into vehicle the floor boards were soaked. When we put our seat belts on they too were wet. I took the vehicle to a body shop on 10/16 & have a statement that it would be a costly repair, mold was present & he stated it was not recommended that I drive it due to possible electrical problems. On 10/23 I picked the vehicle up from the body shop & noticed the mold on the headliner of the passenger side & driver side floorboard. I immediately called the dealership (covert Buick) where I purchased the vehicle & told them I would be bringing the vehicle to them first thing in the morning. 10/24 I attempted to start the vehicle & it would not start. I called the dealership & spoke to the service manager tom. He sent a tow truck out to bring the vehicle to the dealership. Prior to the tow truck arriving I cleaned out all my personal belongings & upon doing so I found that the third row cup holder had standing water in it & mold was growing in it also. Upon arriving to the dealership tom stated he "got me a loaner vehicle approved by [xxx], they usually don't do this" & told me I would "likely not hear from them until wed, 10/30 as they were very busy". I did not hear from tom until fri, 11/1 at 3pm. I returned his call at 5pm & he explained that they assessed my vehicle & it would cost me $1900 for repairs. "there were leaks found & water damage caused a short in the battery. " I then explained that I did not feel this was something I should have to pay to get fixed as I had just purchased the vehicle from them. Asked him to escalate to his manager & get back to me. I received a call from tom 11/4 stating covert was not going to pay for the damage. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

13 Seat Belt problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 09/09/2011

The passenger-side seat belt in the middle row releases unexpectedly -- just pops unbuckled for no apparent reason. After this had happened repeatedly, I had the buckle assembly replaced at my cost, about a month ago (August, 2012). It has happened twice since then, to two different passengers. I was told at the dealership, "we know there have been problems with these buckles. " I was also told "it is extremely sensitive, be careful not to bump it when it is in use. " ok, so, if there's a crash, just be careful not to bump the seat belt buckle assembly so that it won't let go? this is not safe and needs to be fixed, but the dealership swears that there is nothing wrong with my belt and buckle assembly. This is a very dangerous problem that gm will not even acknowledge. The buckles should not release when "lightly bumped. " they should not be "highly sensitive. " they should be buckled until they are deliberately released by the passenger!.

15 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 04/11/2008

On April 11, 2008 at approximately 8:00 p. M. I stopped at costco (west homestead, PA) for fuel. My wife was in the passenger side front seat with the seat belt on and my son was in the 2nd row passenger side seat with the seat belt on. The engine of my 2008 Saturn Outlook awd - xr was off. My son was watching a dvd on the Outlook's ceiling mounted player. He decided to change the dvd and depressed the release button on the seatbelt (located to his left). The buckle released and hit him in the left side of his head at which time my son pulled down on the section of the seatbelt coming from the b post ceiling to reattach the belt buckle at which time the seatbelt made a loop round his head and tightened around his throat. He immediately said to my wife, " mom, I think I have a problem here. " she reached back and placed her hand between the seat belt and the front of his throat. There was only room for her to get her index, middle and ring finger in. My wife yelled " your son is stuck, we can't go yet. " I walked around to the passenger side of the Outlook to see my wife holding the sealtbelt from getting tighter around my son's neck. I tried to pull down on the seat belt from the b post location, but the mechanism would not release the belt forward, only backwards into the housing (which would strangle my son). There was insufficient slack in the belt to permit me to side it over my son's head. I asked my wife to call onstar. She got a representative on the line who asked if we wanted her to call emergency responders. I told her that I was a firefighter certified in basic vehicle rescue and asked her to get a technical Saturn expert on the line who could instruct me how to release the seat belt. Onstar could not provide and expert. At that point my son started to panic. I had costco attendant, fred funaiock cut the seat belt at the floor level with scissors to release the belt from around my son's throat. Onstar incident #1111608558. Pictures taken.
