One problem related to transmission solenoid has been reported for the 2002 Saturn SL2. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Automatic transmission. Driving on straightaway ~ 20-30 mph. Banging into gear as shifts. Harder bang when going into "r". Brought to dealership immediately. Problem: faulty solenoid. Replaced valve body. Expensive repair! this is a very premature, failure. Car only 3 years with ~50k.
