1 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2009

Failure of manual transmission linkage. Shift lever action became loose during shifting from 3rd to 2nd gear. Vehicle remained in 3rd gear allowing car to be driven out of traffic. Disassembly of shift assembly indicated failure of retaining clip that held front/back shift linkage on to end of shift lever. Repaired linkage by drilling through cable end assembly at 4 corner points of top and bottom plastic retention plates to replace failed inadequate e-clip retention system that attaches cable end to shift lever.
