Saturn VUE owners have reported 14 problems related to cruise control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Saturn VUE based on all problems reported for the VUE.
While passing another car on us 17a with cruise control on, my car continued to accelerate even when I attempted to decrease the speed control and when I turned the cruise control off. . . Depressing the brake pedal slowed the car at the expense of the brake pads. . . I turned the key switch off. . Pulled off the road restarted the car and the engine over revved and I turned the key off again, attempted to restart again with the same results. Stomped the brakes several times and this time the results were normal. Either the cruise control or accelerator petal or control module I suspect were at fault. . . . . This could have been very bad if we had been in a high traffic condition. . .

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Vue. While driving approximately 70 mph with the cruise control engaged, the accelerator pedal extended to the floorboard when the cruise control deactivated the cruise control and depressed the brake pedal. The speed increased to 80 mph without warning. The contact had to lift the accelerator pedal with her foot, which caused the speed to decrease. The failure recurred on one other occasion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Vue. While driving approximately 70 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The cruise control warning light illuminated. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

Once again on my way to work, the throttle stuck in the down position and was not releasing until the tachometer was up above 8k. Car would not let me shift and slow, nor break. This time it took just under a mile to return to normal. Neither times were cruise control engaged. Car had been warmed up properly before leaving.

While entering I-880 @ 45 mph increased speed to 60 mph to get into the flow of traffic. Car accelerated to 70-80 mph. Attempts to slow the car down by stepping on brake did not work but the car continued to accelerate to 80-85 mph. I had to switch lanes to not hit car in front. All attempts to brake did not slow the car down. Stepping on the gas peddle numerous times finally allowed the car to slow down. Initially believing car was in cruise control I did nothing. This happen 3 more times when I would accelerate to pass a car on the freeway and once on a private road. The latter was done intentionally, late at night, to assure my mind it was really happening. Car is in the dealer now and they are telling me nothing is wrong with it. This needs to be documented since this appears to be a very serious safety concern when a driver has no control of the vehicle and given the circumstances a lot of lives seem to be at risk including my own. This seems to be the only place to file this information since dealer stated that consumer complaint cannot be filed since Saturn no longer makes vehicles. As I stated to dealer Saturn is covered under GMC.
Cruise control disengaged, this happened twice over a period of a month, when this happened the dash lights went dim , on sept 14,2012 , on I-75 at 60 mph the cruise disengaged and the engine quit, I was put in a very scary situation, almost got rear ended car is at a chevy garage now and because it will not duplicate what happened to me there is no fix. It scares me to think of it happening again. I have owned two other Saturns with no issues this one has had a few which will show on the gms list of fixes it has had. I wish now I had not bought this car. ## VIN passed ## Saturn Vue 2010 ##.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Vue. The contact stated that while the front passenger side seat was occupied, the passenger air bag light illuminated intermittently. The contact also stated that the cruise control light illuminated but the cruise control failed. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
I have a Saturn Vue 2004, blue. On Saturday Dec 11, merging onto I-495 east at exit 31, I accelerated sharply and steadily; 'pedal all the way down. ' the cruise control was on but not engaged. I'm not sure whether it was tapped or not during the acceleration, but I did not intentionally engage it. Regardless, when I removed my foot from the accelerator, I did not experience
a relief of acceleration. It is my belief that the pedal stayed loose, relatively. I tried the brake - it slowed the acceleration but did not stop it. I tried the accelerator to loosen it. I applied the brake in a sustained fashion. I was currently going ~80 mph, faster than intended. At this time, I moved onto the shoulder, to the right, shifted into neutral and turned on the blinkers. The engine raced and the tachometer was high. I braked to about 40-50 mph. I noticed the cruise control system was on, and turned it off. The engine stopped racing and I was able to slow a bit more. Once I was sure the vehicle was under control, I shifted into drive, deactivated the blinkers, regained speed, merged off the shoulder and continued to my destination. I have had no further problems.

When car is in cruise control it is constantly downshifting to maintain speed even on flat surface. Apparently the gearing on the transmission does not support to weight of the vehicle and it cannot maintain the cruise control speed. The service department said there is nothing they can do.
1) and 2) while traveling at high speeds (>60 mph) on the highway, with cruise engaged, periodically the cruise will fail to disengage. On several occasions (at least 5) while driving, and needing to slow down (e. G. To exit the highway, or for slow traffic ahead), the brake is pressed and there is resistance at the pedal and the cruise will not shut off/car attempts to accelerate, which on two occasions has led to a near-accident. On one occasion it also failed to shut off at the steering wheel for several attempts. 3)nothing was done to correct the failure as it could not be duplicated at the dealership and Saturn refuses to replace the part under warranty unless they are able to demonstrate evidence of failure. I have been instructed I would have to replace the parts out of my own pocket but there is no guarantee it would resolve the malfunction since they can't figure out what is causing it.
Consumer stated vehicle experienced sudden acceleration when shifting from park into reverse. The dealership has inspected the vehicle several times and could not duplicate or correct the problem. Please provide further information.

While driving on the interstate during a light snowstorm, I passed under a bridge where there was some accumulation of water. I was traveling (coasting) at approximately 50 to 55 miles per hour (speed limit 65) and when I began crossing the water under the bridge the car's engine accelerated from about 2500 rpm to 5500 rpm. The car began to slide, and only recovered after the engine stopped its acceleration of rpm. Once I was out from under the bridge and the road was not as wet the rpm returned to normal and the car straigthened out. At the point of acceleration, I removed my foot from the gas pedal entirely, and although the "traction control" button is turned on automatically when you start the car, the warning light that normally comes on during traction control did not light, indicating that it was not the traction control that was the problem. Since the car is equipped with cruise control and the controls are on the steering wheel I do not drive with the cruise control on (I rarely if ever use the cruise control as I do not believe it is safe). I took the car to the dealer and explained what happened, the technician checked the car and said that nothing had been recorded on the computer and nothing was malfunctioning. He believed I used the cruise control inadvertently, which is not possible. I believe the vehicle has an unexpected acceleration problem.
While accelerating from a stop, the engine rpm rev's to 4000 rpm, speedometer indicates a speed of 80-90 mph, while physically going 10-15mph. Additionally, the service engine soon indicator appears as well as the reduced power indicator. Also happened with cruise control on. Exact same problem occurred on two Vue's, both times with less than 1300 miles on the vehicle, both with 4 cyl, vti automatic transmissions. One incident on Dec 24 - Dec 27 2002 was the first.
When using the resume button on cruise control system the button sticks and causes the vehicle to accelerate. Dealer replaced the cruise control system.
