I recently had the airbag light come on my car. I took it in to an authorized Smart car shop (Mercedes Benz). Mb informed that the wires from the seat belt underneath passenger seat were fraid and needed to replace the entire seat system. After paying $400. 00, for a new passenger seat belt, the light came off. Reading different forums online, many Smart car owners have also had exactly the same issues with the wires underneath both the passenger and driver side.

I purchased the vehicle on Feb 2009 at about 62000 miles/Dec 2011 - Jan 2012 the airbag light came on without anything happening. I took to the mechanic who said they put it through diagnostic machine and all was suppose to be fine and they didnt know why light was on. That they had to take the car apart in order to see what was wrong. This is all very stressful as im expecting and everytime I get in my car im afraid of getting into an accident and not having airbag.
