Battery dead, once 6 months ago when rear gate opened and closed several times before staying open for a few hours before neighbor asked if I knew it was open. Battery dead after driving to 2 stops on 10/24/22 then dead again in airport parking on 10/28/22 when returning from trip. Took into dealership 10/29/22 and problem confirmed although not sure if it is the battery or charging the battery. No warning lamps. Have to wait by myself until I can get a jump start. Don’t know when or where it might not start, puts my safety at risk by not knowing where or at what time of day or night I might be stranded.
Car would not start in morning. @20,000 miles. Battery dead. . Not even trying to turn over. . Had to get car jumped then all safety features went dead. . Looked on Subaru sight and it showed every safety feature disabled. . I did not drive car till next day to bring to dealer. . Next day all features fine like nothing happened. . Dealer found nothing wrong. Dealer tested battery and showed fully charged. .
My battery electric has been to hay wire from time to time and now my car is flickering all electric and car wont start. Locks wont work.
Battery gets drained if the trunk is open longer than an hour. Left the car trunk open during our camping trip while unloading and loading and in both the instance the battery drained and we we had to scramble for help to jump start the car. This happened last time exactly the same way when we were in the campsite as well.
2019 Subaru Ascent experience battery drain. Was able to start after jump and had 13 volts when returned home. Next morning it did start, barely, but was down to just above 12 volts. Appears to be the electrical system drain.
Vehicle has experienced total loss of power while driving under normal circumstances. This has occurred in a drive-thru, at 45 and 50mph, and also twice during 70mph highway driving. The entire vehicle shuts down and multiple dash board lights illuminate at the time of power loss. I first documented this on 4/7/22 and it randomly occurs every month, once it even happened twice in the same day. I had called the dealership (where I purchased the vehicle and have it serviced) multiple times throughout the spring and summer awaiting parts for the tcm recall with the assumption that this could be the issue. However , my vehicle passed the recall and even after the new tcm was placed on 8/19, I again had the same event on 10/1. Vehicle was taken in on 10/6 for diagnostics on this issue again and nothing found. I do not feel like the dealership has been accurately documenting my issues so I will need to be more persistent in getting someone to address the problem as this could be a serious safety issue.
Subaru Ascent issues with electrical system and battery. Engine cranks longer than it should before starting- anywhere from 5 to 25 seconds. Battery dead multiple times. Have taken to Subaru multiple times, they replaced the batter once but have ignored repeated requests to fix the issue of parasitic battery drain from faulty electrical system.
Electrical (dead battery) issues. On 4 or 5 different days during the last 3 years, I have attempted to start my car and found the battery completely drained. In March of 2022, I replaced the battery at my own expense ($235. 30). I assumed this would surely cure the problem. However, another dead battery on 8-18-22. I learned (at that time) there are numerous 2019 Subaru Ascent owners with similar problems.
The battery constantly drains when the car is not in use for a very short time. It appears to be an electrical drain. I have already replaced the battery two times and the car has less than 15,000 miles. Apparently this is the same problem as in the 2016 - 2019 class action suit.
My battery continues to drain prematurely. It’s been replaced twice within the year, and I just took it in for a 3rd time and the Subaru service department cannot diagnose the problem claiming my batteries were bad. There has to be an electrical problem. I’ve never owned a car with this issue and it’s less than 3 years old. It’s left me stranded with my children.
We had two wire harness that was burnt twice in a year apart for our 2020 Subaru Ascent touring. Here are the two parts # and description: slow blow fuse 170a under part #82211xc00a & wiring harness r lh USA under part #81502xc11b were burn. We use Subaru to tow from time to time for our 2021 airstream bambi 16rb (dry weight of 2,900 lbs. And gvwr of 3,500 lbs. ). On 06/21/21, we noticed the car has no battery and we called roadside assistance to jump the car, but the car battery died again. On 06/22/21, we called roadside assistance to jump the car, this time, we drove to Subaru directly to have the dealer look at the issue. Dealer inspected and replaced a battery for us under warranty. On 06/26/21, the battery was completely dead again. So we have our car jumped and go to the dealer. We have 9,214 miles at this point. After 2 weeks of diagnose, dealer told us the main left wiring harness was burnt due to excessive power draw from the trailer, possibly by the electric tongue jack on the trailer, we were the 2nd exact case happened in the whole nation by that time, they will fix it as a one time courtesy and recommend us to remove the electric tongue jack. Vehicle picked up on 07/27/21, we switched electric tongue jack to manual jack. On 08/05/22, when we drove less than 5 miles out of our house, we noticed our dashboard started to flash all kind of warning message-transmission, tire pressure, vehicle dynamic control and airbag system, eyesight was disabled. We decided to exit the freeway. Burning smell noticed and the car can't be started. We towed the vehicle to dealer for inspection. Dealer took a week to discover the problem was caused by the same burnt harness. After back and forth for 3+ weeks, dealer refused to cover under warranty despite we did not use the electric tongue jack(the cause dealer identified last year for the burn) the whole year. We are waiting for Subaru of America for update as of 08/31/22 under case #220824-232370 filed on 08/24/22.
The battery died after 2 years and 15000 miles. I was with my whole family ( 2 months old, 2 and 4 years old) away from home. I was able to reach the dealership leaving my family in a store and they said that nothing was wrong with the battery. Next day the car wouldn’t start and they finally replaced the battery under my extended warranty. Today I discover that there is a class action settlement for older models of my car. I was advised to write a complain to you. Apparently they didn’t fix the problem with newer models either.

The battery in my 2020 Subaru Ascent died without any warning. The light would go on, back talegate wouldn’t open, nothing would work. I called aaa and they came out to test it. I was told it was completely dead, there were no cells left in it, as if the lights, radio and doors were left open for an extended period of time (I was in the grocery store for 15 minutes, nothing was left in). He was able to jump start it but after some time of charging the battery. The battery is not old. We purchased the car in Dec of 2021 from a dealer.
Electrical system repeatedly malfunctions. Intermittent starting and shut-off issues, rear hatch will not properly operate, per dealer the radio was replaced, and periodic unexplained battery drain issues resulting in replacement of battery. Dash warnings are displayed for no apparent reason. When radio was replaced there were still issues and dealer said it "would take a few days for the issues to resolve. " even after battery and radio replacement periodic shutting off car and restarting is necessary for volume control and station change. Safety could be an issue if car will not start, or shut off as related in a timeline attachment. Dealer is unable to reproduce periodic/intermittent issues.
I am experiencing battery drain. I have replaced the battery and had the starter and alternator checked. Everything is fine, but the battery continues to drain inappropriately. Yes, the battery and electrical system are available for inspectioon. My son and I have been left stranded on multiple occasions, risking our safety. The vehicle was inspected and the problem confirmed by an independent service center, b & g automotive, eugene, or. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? there were not any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? battery was drained completely when rear hatch is opened for the short period of time to unload stuffs from the car. Similar situation happened when the car was about a year old. When rear hatch was opened for less than an hour to sit at rear part of the car and watch an event, battery was completely drained and we had to call road side service to restart the car. My car is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? both of my cases did not caused safety issue. But it will be a serious safety issue if it happens at a remote location where there is no other car or cell phone signal to call for help. Our family do travel to remote location where there is no cell phone signal. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I am very sure that problem can be reproduce by simply opening rear hatch for a while. When I took car to the dealer, the representative was aware of the issue but was not willing to provide free service to fix the issue because basic warranty was expired. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no. It first happened when the car was about a year old (12,000 miles).
1. The electrical system/battery failed after only 392 miles. Car could not be jumped. When the cables were put on the battery, the tech said they got real hot (which leads us to believe it was shorting out. ) even though Subaru blamed the battery, the dashboard lights, the horn, and the headlights were all flickering and flashing like a christmas tree. The car had also just been driven 45 minutes before. Subaru blamed driver error on not shutting the car off properly, but according to a class-action lawsuit, Subaru is aware of this happening with other Subaru vehicles. 2. The car would not start in an unsafe neighborhood after dark. We also experienced a burning smell in our garage for the past few months, which disappeared now that the Subaru has been at the garage for a week. 3. Not confirmed. The Subaru dealership blamed driver error and improper shut off of the ignition. 4. No inspections have been done except by the Subaru dealership. 5. No warning. The car had just been driven for 45 minutes, we parked and came back 45 minutes later and it would not start. At that time, the battery light came on, the car's headlights started to flash, and the dashboard lit up. Looking back, the burning smell in our garage might have been a clue.

Battery died while in idle, unable to restart, constant clicking and beeping. Requires roadside assistance. This is the 3rd time the battery has been dead on this car. . . . First time, shortly after purchase, the dealer replaced the battery, saying it was a battery issue. Second time the car had been parked in the garage, a few months ago, no lights left on. Today, it was idling as I was picking up my kids, it just died. Battery is about a year old. Now all dash lights are just flashing. Will see if there is permanent damage.
Spent 5 hours at a tailgate/beach event with the rear lift gate open. I made sure that interior lights were off to avoid draining the battery with the lift gate open. When we were ready to leave, the car battery was dead. We were panicked because we have a 5mo old and had to track down another driver to borrow jumper cables. Once home, we discovered that the lift gate will always draw power from the battery unless you trick the hatch lock with an off-market device or carabiner clip.

My Subaru 2020 with 16,000 miles stalled in the middle of driving down the road in town, I was driving 35 mph when out of nowhere the car stalled. I was able to coast/turn on to a side street. I’m lucky the car had enough momentum to keep going or we would have been hit by traffic as the street we were on is a busy road. The car flashed all the lights when it stalled and refused to crank over, it was low on gas so I called aaa and they brought 5 gallons of gasoline and filled it. The technician then tried to get the vehicle to start but it wouldn’t. Luckily he offered to tow it to my house for free. I have tried multiple times to get the vehicle to start and it wont. It cranks but doesn’t actually move. I don’t know what’s wrong and now I have to have it towed to the the local dealership. This is the second major issue that has happened. The first one was that the transmission failed and with my car having a branded title for being stolen/recovery. Subaru would not replace the transmission at 7,600 miles and I had to find a used one to replace it with. I now just got the recall letter and have messaged Subaru about it.
The battery went dead even though the car was parked in the garage and had been driven recently. Aaa was called to jump start it. The vehicle only has 5k miles on it, so it shouldn’t be having battery problems. We are lucky this happened at home.
12v battery for the car needed to be jump started every morning. Car will not start until we jump start the battery. Security beeping and all car buttons not working. The problem started since Feb 28, and its been happening almost every morning.
My mirror on my car has started melting. They told me it was a outside force, from a lighter. I told them it was electrical or something wrong from the inside of the mirror. There are forums recently posted up regarding this and Subaru has ignored them all claiming it is reflective light from the sun. That they can’t do anything about it. Something in car drains battery frequently not while the vehicle is running but after it’s been off for a few hours when no lights have been left on, Subaru dealership refuses to admit there’s a problem. This leaves me exposed to being stuck in unsafe situations with a dead battery. No warnings ever come on to alert me the battery is draining. Transmission frequently slips and stutters when accelerating to higher speeds like when trying to transition onto the interstate. Subaru also denies this problem. They fixed the transmission clutch but that did not help.
2019 Subaru Ascent with a battery draining for no known reason. Found the lift gate open one evening in the garage when I had not driven the car recently, though had been in the garage and not noticed the issue. Replaced the battery and it was dead within a week. Spoke with a Subaru dealership who denies knowing anything about this issue and stated the diagnostic could take 10-20 hours at over $100. 00/hr in certain cases. Really!!!.
During a camping trip the battery died when the tailgate was left open. Second battery incident: went to go start my car after not driving for 6 days, battery was dead. No lights, doors, or hatch was on or open. After using a trickle charger I recharged the battery and was able to start the car after 4 hours of charging. After the car sat for one day the engine did turn over, but it sounded like it took a bit of extra effort for the starter to get the engine going. Third battery incident: I went to start my car again after it was parked for 5 days and the battery was dead again. I used the trickle charger again and was able to charge the battery to over 80%. The next day I took the car in for a service to investigate why the battery was draining to dead after not driving for days. The service department was unable to determine a cause of the issue. The battery was in good condition and was in the green on the grading scale.
The vehicle has a parasitic battery draw. I purchased a new gel cell (redtop) battery, the most powerful one that fits the car, and was reimbursed by Subaru. The car battery still goes totally dead after about one week, even with occasional driving. I have to carry a jump battery in case I am traveling to insure that I can get the car started when I stop.
Rear hatch open for more than 10 minutes, the battery is dead. Also, if the radio is left on after the car is turned off the battery is dead.
