Popping noise when turning to the right or the left only during a short range turn, had it to the dealership they couldn't hear the noise- as soon as they gave it back it was still popping, it is very frustrating. I have found online that there could be many issues, but was a recall on earlier models. Maybe 2018 should be recalled as well. Was at the dealer 4/2/2021- bought the car July 2020.

Ever since I have owned the car may 2019 I have had the problem of dangerous unstable steering when it automatically departs from lanes at speeds above 50 mph in all weather conditions wet sunny mountains hilly when it puts all us in danger when tha driver has to adjust the car. Twice I have taken to the dealership and no action was taken and we remain apprehensive about driving our less than 6000 miles. It is unsafe and dangerous. Can any thing be done.

When I go to park and turn off the key it locks half way and won't come out. Have to reverse and pull forward sometimes several times before it will turn completely off. Subaru has a technical service date: 03/15/18 16-112-18r revised bulletin about an issue with the "shift selecter mechanism. " Subaru is aware of the persistent problem, but has not issued a recall.

There is a grinding noise coming from one of my wheels . I'm pretty sure it's a bad wheel bearing . Noticed the noise after braking very hard to avoid a collision . Have had the SUV looked at test driven by an independent mechanic . He believes it is the wheel bearing.
After putting the car in park unable to remove the key from ignition, key getting stuck in ignition.

Key gets stuck in ignition and the car needs to be restarted, put in reverse/drive, and then either moved or step firmly on the break and back in park. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts. Having this issue for a couple months. It doesn't happen every time, but often.

Key gets stuck in ignition and the car needs to be restarted in order to remove key. This occurs when stationary and trying to remove key from ignition. Had this issue for a about a month before I took it in as Subaru had a recall for wue90 stop light switch replacement and I thought it may be related as did my service provider at north park Subaru or maybe had to do with steering. The problem was not solved, the repair was out of my pocket. The service provider reported 'erratic operation of park switch on shifter' and the shifter was replaced and problem is resolved. This appears a manufacturing flaw that should be recalled as many others report the same issue. The service provider also reported the same issue and stated many people had come in recently to have the same issue serviced. It maybe unethical that the service provider has not or did not appear to be reporting the matter. Car is less than three years old (when occured) and has 50k miles on it.
Driving 70 mph, cruise on but not set, lane keep assist was on. Driving down middle of my lane on the highway the car abruptly turns to the right. I could not recover fast enough to avoid going into the next lane. Because I was over the line, the lane departure gave me an alert. A few days later it happened for the 2nd time. Same speed, same abrupt force turning the car, this time to the left. I may have been close the the right side of my lane but nonetheless, it suppose to nudge the steering wheel back into my lane. Not an abrupt turn. It certainly gets your attention and could cause an accident.
Experiencing same issues as many others. Key will not pull out unless turned back on and change gears; then when turned back off key will pull out. Started happening in 2019. Again, same as other people, hear clicking when turning left. Taking to dealership tomorrow but seems like it will be the axle from what others are experiencing.
When trying to turn off the Crosstrek it would not let the key come out of the ignition. It forces you to take it out of park and put it back into drive then back into park a few times to take the key out. I went to Subaru and they said it was a common problem, which they have a fix for. This problem is seen in many of the older model Subarus I have seen the same problem in many youtube videos. This is a known problem and has not been addressed by Subaru. Subaru dealer told me the problem is a sticky plate cylinder.
When driving, especially at highway speeds, the steering will unexpectedly push the car across the lane, sometimes harshly, especially around curves. This is more than a simple nudge for lane assist, it scares the heck out of you as you fight the steering wheel to maintain control. At least on our car it's enough to cause an accident! the car has been in to Subaru three times to correct this problem, without success. After informing Subaru of America and opening a formal complaint (case #148267253025) they dismiss this as the eye sight/lane assist working, and say the remedy is to turn this safety feature off. . . Which to us is ridiculous and not why we purchased this car. As we have informed Subaru the car sits in our garage as we are simply too afraid to drive it. Our initial complaint was in July, after our first road trip, and the problem recurs irregularly and without warning. The car now has 5725 miles on the odometer.
Put car in park, shut the ignition off, and I am unable to remove the key from the ignition. This has occurred on several occasions. Would have to turn the vehicle back on, move the shifter from park to drive position, then put back in park and by doing this I am sometimes able to remove the key.
The contact owns a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. While driving approximately 30 mph over an uneven surface, the vehicle veered to the right. The steering wheel had to be straightened by force by the contact. The contact stated that the failure occurred all the time ever since the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, but an appointment was scheduled with wilkins Subaru (6917 richie hwy, glen burnie, MD 21061). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
Car has 67,000 miles, is three years old, the front left and right axles had to both be replaced. There was a loud clicking when steering the vehicle. On both sides of the car. Any turns whether with speed or slow the axle would make a loud clicking noise. I was not in an accident nor hitting potholes etc. Just making basic turns onto roads and highways.
The lane assist is sometimes overly aggressive, without warning. When taking an exit ramp to the right it once violently tried to correct to the left. In crosswinds it's like trying to steer a mario cart game and will jerk you back and forth in the lane.
At highway speeds, during a mild turn, the car unexpectedly pulls in the same direction as the turn. First occurred 3 weeks after purchase. Took car to dealer immediately. May be related to existing steering recall. Dealer cooperative so far. Checked VIN against existing recall, but it was not associated on the ntsb web site.
Upon starting car in driveway found power steering sluggish and requiring great force (operative, but no apparent boost). Engine sluggisn like limp-home mode. Additionally mil, tc and other lights illuminated on dash. I took photo. I forget if it threw odb codes, but I remember that it two battery disconnect cycles, and two odb code clearing cycles, to regain normal function. I forget id any odb codes were set. Here are the conditions: daytime morning, about 11am, ambient temperature about 65 degrees. Car parked in driveway. I previously (about 30 minutes before) moved car from street to driveway. Date listed below is approximate. I will update when I check exif data on pix.
Vehicle turned off while driving two times in traffic causing near collisions. Its been at dealer for more than a week. The dealer says they couldn't repair it so Subaru sent out engineers and determined their was a fault with no repair protocol available. They say they will have to keep my car until they can repair it. They mentioned another car in the phoenix area having the same problem. They stated that they might have to develop new software to fix the problem. I filed a complaint with Subaru of America case #[xxx] on June 18, 2018. I ask them to return the vehicle that I have had for less than 2 months, but there is no resolution from them at this time. The vehicle has already had air conditioner issues that the dealer service team say are resolved, but as yet we have not driven the car since the repair, to see if the ac is actually working properly. This vehicle was purchased for its outstanding safety rating in the transportation of our elderly mother to and from medical appointments and any collision could be a life threatening event for her, in her current condition. We are deeply concerned for the safety of others and very disappointed in Subaru for continuing to sell this vehicle to the public with the knowledge it has a defect that can turn it off at any time causing a collision. Please contact me with any questions. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Power steering issues. Light illuminates on dashboard and power steering problems occur. It's only 4 years old (never driven off road) taken well care of, and there are serious problems with the electronical part of the power steering saying there is a problem and when driving it locks up making turns really hard when turning the wheel. Then our car shut off like the battery was dead for half a day and we tried one last time to start it before jumping and it started up and worked. Seems like something is wired wrong.

While driving approximately 20-30mph foot on the break I was making a right turn into a parking lot and the steering stopped working. Car was still running but steering was dead no warning lights were lit on the dash after about 4 seconds the steering came back to normal. This is the second time this happened to me. I purchased the Subaru new it has 7,220 miles on it. The first time it happened same scenario car had about 5k miles on it. Thought it was a fluke didn't think nothing of it until today it happened on a busy road luckily I was able to keep the car under control. Talked to dealer they need the issue to be constant to do anything. Tried to duplicate issue and it will not it happens when it wants to but this is a big safety issue.
