Nuna rava convertible car seat, model cs05107rfd, manufactured 10/15/2021, purchased Jan 2022. Harness failure after completing the remedy for recall 24c-002. Both of my seats had never shown any harness problem before the recall notice. In 2025, I received the remedy kit for both and followed the instructions to clean the harness adjuster and replace the seat pads. The seats worked normally until may 13, 2026, when the harness on one would not lock and the straps would not stay tight. The failed component was the front harness adjuster. I noticed the failure while removing my child after a drive. The harness was loose even though I had tightened it at the start of the drive, and it would not lock when I tightened it again. I recorded a video right after removing my child and the seat from the car. A harness that loosens during a drive cannot properly restrain a child in a crash. No crash occurred and my child was not injured. No one has inspected the seat. I still have the seat and video and can make both available. The harness appears to be working again when I just checked (September 2026). It’s been sitting in our office, unused, since may. I removed the other nuna rava seat from our other car in may after the failure, though it worked normally, and bought two seats from a different brand. I believe the remedy did not adequately fix the original problem. I performed it as directed and the harness still failed. I ask NHTSA to review whether the remedy is adequate and consider expanding the recall to include a replacement or refund for all seats under the original recall.
The harness on my child's nuna rava loosened during a 30 minute drive home (highway and downtown driving) in may of 2025. I learned later that month that there is a recall on nuna ravas for that exact reason. It is available for inspection. My child was not properly secured, and I did not know it until we got home; he could have been killed or seriously injured had we gotten into a collision on that drive. The car seat has not been inspected by anyone. Nuna offered me a “remedy kit” with a screwdriver, a brush, and a mismatched fabric cover, but I am not a safety technician and do not have the time or expertise to take the seat apart myself and still trust it to secure my child. The problem with the harness straps we have is intermittent, and does not replicate when the car is parked and I simply “tug” on the straps. I do not feel that this is an adequate safety test anyway, as it doesn’t replicate the forces or conditions in an accident. I requested a replacement seat, but nuna denied my request on 7/21 and again on 7/28. Nuna has not supplied crash test results on layperson “repaired” car seats. This defect is the subject of NHTSA actions dp24003 and pe24026. Other rava owners have complained that their repaired rava still malfunctioned even after using nuna's "remedy kit. " I would like a replacement car seat to ensure my child's safety.
Was loosening the shoulder strap to get my child out of the seat and one of the straps came completely off of the seat. The strap hadn't broken, just had come unattached from the seat. Now only one strap is usable. Sent pictures to cybex and because it was 2 months out of the 2 year warranty, they couldn't replace it.
