The windshield was hit by a rock and within 12 hours, a 6" crack developed near the lower part of the windshield. Over the course of the next two weeks, the crack has continued across the entire lower area of the windshield. The windshield is due to be repaired within the next couple of days.

Like many others with Subaru eyesight acoustic auto glass, windshield is beginning to crack and pit despite never being outdoors, and not experiencing rock chipping. This glass is unsafe, costly, defective, and needs a recall. Issue appeard may 23, three months after purchase.
Stone chip 2 within a week! 1st repaired next day.
Overall I’m disappointed in the quality of the manufactured parts and accessories. It leads me to believe low grade materials were used in manufacturing this vehicle. My vehicle is brand new and has 2500 miles on it and the front windshield has a crack that is obvious to the naked eye that it was not caused by a rock hitting it while driving. If low grade quality (thin glass) was used to produce this vehicle and it easily breaks/cracks this is a safety hazard for drivers and passengers.
The windshield cracked while the car was parked overnight in my attached, residential garage. The crack formed in front of the passenger seat, starting at the bottom edge of the windshield and running up about 6 inches. There were no chips or recent (as in several weeks) impacts to the windshield.
I noticed my windshield spontaneously cracked, without any trauma. This was noticed in the morning after my car had been sitting in the garage overnight. There were no rocks or other debris that hit the car, and there does not appear to be a point of impact. The crack seems to have occurred spontaneously, with no precipitating event or warning. This is dangerous because it could impair visibility, the functioning of eye sight camera/safety system, and could easily expand and cause shattering of glass. It makes me concerned about the integrity of the windshield. Several other Subaru owners have reported this problem of spontaneous windshield cracking online. This occurred on my car on 4/3/2023. I have photo evidence of the faulty windshield, it has not yet been inspected by a dealer.

The windshield has formed a crack in the top middle around the area of the rear view mirror with no incident to cause it. The problem is easily identifiable and may cause safety issues if the crack spreads. At this time insurance representatives and the manufacturer have not inspected the windshield. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior. It just cracked out of nowhere.
Windshield began to crack in the lower right corner (sitting in drivers seat) over a year ago, was replaced and just noticed a crack again recently starting in the same spot.
Bought the car last week and I got a crack on the windshield from a small rock. I did an insurance claim that I have an appt for next Wednesday and while driving to work another pebble hit the windshield. So the first crack has not even been fix and I got another one. In my years of driving I have never had this issue.
Its widely known that Subaru has a problem with their windshields dating back to 2015. There have been several class action lawsuits wherein their windshields crack for no reason. My windshield cracked and it was determined there was an impact point where the crack propagated. I contest that based on their sub-standard windshields, there is not way to determine impact vs non-impact crack formation. The repair for the windshield was quoted at $1300!! part of the quote includes re-calibrating the eyesight technology which is required. Subaru's recommendation was to file a comprehensive insurance claim. My insurance company, progressive, indicated that this type of claim, while comprehensive, would cause a rate increase. Subaru refused to conduct a 3 way call with progressive to discuss the matter. I wonder why? there are countless claims of Subaru windshields cracking. Any impact whatsoever will result in an unrepairable crack. A reputable windshield replacement personnel told me most folks simply can't afford a window replacement and continue to drive with a crack. Subaru's windshields can't possibly meet current automotive standards for window integrity. If window replacement costs are in excess of $1000 and in some cases exceed $2000, nobody will be able to afford the repair resulting in unsafe conditions. Saddling the insurance companies cost everyone - particularly when their are inherent design flaws with Subaru windshields.

My 2019 Subaru Crosstrek has a little over 19000 miles on it, and my windshield has cracked for the third time. The first time was after a rock strike at the edge of my windshield; the vehicle did not make it the couple miles home before it had split several inches. The second and third times seem spontaneous. Both cracks originated from the bottom of the glass on the passenger's side, and there were no known rock strikes either instance. Both instances, the windshield cracked several inches while the vehicle was parked. In the third instance, the vehicle had only been sitting an hour between use, and a six inch crack appeared within that time. None of the three windshields have sustained any other damage beyond the cracks. Subaru has recently undergone lawsuits regarding this issue with many of their vehicles over the last several years. This is a known problem. Cracks to the windshield reduce the efficacy of the safety features in the event of an accident and can impair a driver's visibility. With damage this often and the cost of a new windshield and sensor recalibration, I am sure many drivers are waiting until their windshield has completely cracked until replacement.

Got my 2023 Crosstrek sport 2 days ago with 6 miles on the odometer. When I first drove it on the freeway today, a rock chip larger than a quarter appeared on my front windshield. I was on an overpass entering the main freeway so I was only going at 55 mph, did not even hear a loud bang when it happened. But given the size and depth of the crack, I have to replace the whole piece of glass. It is bizarre and astonishing how fragile the quality of the brand new windshield is.
Spontaneous windshield crack. No impact or apparent cause. Available for inspection. Based on online research and your database, this is a common occurrence. Reporting to Subaru dealer has been initiated.
Noticed a crack in windshield (out of no where, no stone hit our car). Crack started in the middle bottom of windshield. Crack was 5 times the size the next day! very dangerous!.
The windshield has cracked twice and had to be replaced. The first time was December 2021 and the second time was November 2022. Each time, we did not even see impact with a pebble. We just assume that was what caused the crack. My wife and I have been driving for fifty years and this is the first time we have had to replace a windshield. Subaru needs to fix this problem.
The windshield broke there are no signs of breaking by a rock or any external element, there is a crack coming from the DE-icer region, it was a small crack but now it covers all the side from the passenger side.
A crack on the windshield appeared for no apparent reason . The crack started on the passenger side right below the windshield wiper. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by insurance or police. Besides the financial burden this may cause it has not caused any physical harm to myself or others. However, it is a known issue with Subarus in the past and should be addressed.
Windshield is very fragile. (I think it cracks when a flower petal falls on it. . . ) but seriously, I have about 20 chips in my windshield and have not had any significant boulders or trucks with rocks that have hit my windshield. It appears to be from every day urban commute, which is unusual. I have never had a car that I have had to replace the windshield in due to fragility. Also, the windshield seal has come completely off at the base near the hood.
A crack developed on the front windshield of my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek out of nowhere. There was no accident or incident of a object (rock, dirt, etc…) that hit my windshield. I noticed the damage getting into my car that is parked inside a closed, locked garage.

Windshield cracked almost all the way across to other side and then down. This vehicle has the eyesight package. I do not remember date it happened but will state 2 years ago. When it happened it quickly moved across windshield.
Windshield seems pretty fragile after being hit by a little gravel pebble due to construction work at the highway the crack extended in less than 24 hours to 12 inches. This is very concerning since it’s pretty weird to a chip to develop as bad as this one.
The front window was hit by chips seal pebbles from the car in front of us and chipped the window, twice. It was repaired with standard window chip repair.
I am about to get my second windshield on this car due to chips and cracks. I currently have 7 with one large spider crack. I have never owned a car that had a windshield that chipped and cracked so much. Our Dodge caravan which we have owned twice as long and drive in the same roads, highways and conditions, has never chipped.
A windshield that was replaced July 14, 2021 at a Subaru dealership developed a crack for no apparent reason within 6 months (December 2021). The crack began at the bottom passenger-side edge and as of July 17, 2022 the crack has now extended 3/4 the distance across the windshield (upwards towards the top edge of the windshield). This is a very expensive replacement cost ($1,400) at the Subaru dealership. I am concerned about replacing the windshield again if the replacement windshields are defective and prone to cracking.
Windshield cracked randomly while car was parked at my house. The crack isstarting from from bottom corner at seam. And extends almost all the way up in 1 single crack. After showing pictures to a mechanic he confirmed this is not from a rock or dust storm. If the windshield were to crack when driving it could potentially spiderweb, causing little visibility.
A very, very small pebble hit the windshield while driving and caused a ~9 inch fracture in the windshield. I see that Subaru has had a class action lawsuit for defective windshields, but for some reason did not include the 2018 Crosstrek — but I can assure you, it's the same glass on these vehicles and the smallest pebble caused a nearly foot long crack.
The windshield is cracked it is on the driver's side it is spidering down the windshield. I wad wondering if it was covered on the recall.

Windshield replacement due to rock chips: within 3 months of purchasing my Crosstrek, my windshield received 3 rock chips: I will say, I don't drive off road. I drive on the highways or paved city streets. When this first occurred in 2018 (purchased in oct2018), I was shocked. I've owned cars all my life (I'm over 50y - drove nissans) & never had a rock chip incident. Anyway, dealer told me I should be more careful and it's my fault - the service guy actually inferred that it must be because I'm a woman and drive badly (I haven't gone back to that dealer). I wasn't happy but had the rock chip repaired but one: it couldn't be repaired because it was on passenger side but down by the black area where the shield connects with the body of the car. Was told to wait and see. That winter the crack spread significantly to a 48+ inch crack that scaled the entire windshield. Because of the pandemic, I recently took it in for replacement (costing $1,076. 52). Now, not even a month after replacing the old windshield - yesterday in fact - the windshield developed a new rock chip crack. I'm beyond understanding why this is occurring. It's as though the Crosstrek is a magnet for this type of event. I love my car but I really am not pleased - and feel the design of the windshield makes these vehicles prone to this type of issue. I know the manufacture has to be aware due to the number of complaints they receive but have yet to improve the design to correct for it.
Windshield chips easily. I have owned this car from new (approximately 18 months). The windshield has picked up 7 chips in that time: more than the total of chips I've had in my 29 years of driving. Only one of the chips had a notable sound that accompanied it's creation, and that was from the impact of a large insect while driving on I-77. This windshield seems to be easily damaged, if not fragile, and gives me concern about the potential for injury if it was faced with any substantial impact. I'm also concerned about the high replacement costs for the windshield and required eyesight re-calibration. If I had known the windshields where so susceptible to damage, I would not have picked a Subaru.
I own a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek premium. Today, I noticed a crack in my windshield as I got in my car in my garage. There was no impact to the windshield that could have caused the crack in the windshield, and the night before there was no crack visible. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired yet, and is pending review from the dealer. The crack began at the bottom right edge, the crack is roughly 2" long.
I parked my vehicle in my garage last evening no crack in my windshield. Today I went to go out to eat and I had a 3" crack starting at the edge middle of the driver's side. I drove 4 miles to the restaurant and now it's 8" long. No rock impacts I'm aware of and no chips in the crack area. From what I'm reading Subaru seems to have a windshield issue, and I think these should be replaced at no cost to the consumer.
My 2020 Subaru Crosstrek has repeatedly had its windshield crack for little to no reason. I have noticed my windshield crack in a similar spot (near the VIN number area) multiple times with no incidents where a rock or other debris struck the windshield. This provides a visual distraction and safety issue while driving.
My car was parked outside when one morning I noticed a 2-inch crack started from the edge of the windshield on the passenger side of my vehicle which grew to 19 inches in the following days. The crack feels smooth from the outside and to my knowledge didn't happen due to any impact. My vehicle is available for any inspection. I have not taken my car to the manufacturer regarding this issue yet.
I bought this car January 2021. In June 2021, the smallest pebble cracked my windshield while I was driving on the freeway. Yesterday, 3/28/22, I was driving home from work like usual and my sunroof spontaneously exploded and completely shattered. Yep, you read that right. Don’t believe me? search Subaru exploded sunroof on google. Thank god I had the sunroof shade closed or else the glass would’ve fallen all over me. I suffer from trauma caused by a past car accident where I was in the passenger and do not take broken glass lightly which is why I chose Subaru to be my first car that I bought. I came home shaking and found out that other Subaru owners experienced the same phenomenon after doing some research. However, Subaru does not want to take responsibility for this. You’re telling me that I don’t have to be in an actual accident in order to be harmed by my car that I was promised was not just one but the top reliable and safest car in the industry?.
