Failure Date: 02/27/2020

1. Cars short block is replaced 4 days ago under warranty. The temperature dropped to -20 celcius (-25 celsius with wind chill) I started the car and it is making rattling noise. Although I always warm the car by for approx 5 min like last day, yet a continuous rattling noise is there, and I have a feeling that time-to-time it shake vigorously after short block replacement by the Subaru dealer. I have yet to contact the dealer for the issue. Presently vehicle is making rattling noise while stationary and all the time when in motion too. 2. Seat belt receiver for driver and passenger side and literally bad; dealer refused to replace them under warrant. Although I put a little of lithium grease then-after they are working great.

39 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/29/2019

Passenger side air bags are not enabled with a person sitting in the seat using a seat belt extender. There are flaws on the software that identify the passenger actions entering the car, when the seat belt is fastened and whether or not a seat belt extender has been used. If a seat belt extender is already in place, the car refuses to enable the air bags after a person sits in the passenger seat.

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

Front passenger seat air bag sensor, front passenger seat occupancy sensor, front passenger seat airbag computer, red air bag warning light, yellow passenger airbag "on/off" light, seat belt warning and chime. Air bag disabled warning intermittently comes on when passenger seat is occupied, seat belt fastened, car out of gear, stationary. Sometimes stopping engine, key off and removed, then engine restarted will reset this warning. Other times during normal driving, passenger seat occupied, seat belt latched, air bag warning (red) light will occurs and yellow pass airbag active light will indicate passenger air bag inactive. When front pass seat empty or with weight as light as 2 pounds on the seat, seat belt warning light and chime comes on when speed exceeds 5 mph. Sometimes this alarm can be reset by sharply striking seat, sometimes not, and trip must be completed with the seat belt buckled. In this case the passenger airbag light usually shows inactive. The seat belt issue has been happening for about 2 years, getting more frequent. The airbag issue has been happening during the last two months, starting just after the stop light switch recall maintenance was performed at Subaru dealer in las vegas, nv.

46 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Seat warning buzze when the driver or the passenger seat belt is not fastened the buzzer sounds for approximately 8 seconds. However, after this interval, if either belt is still unfastened buzzer continues to chime in ever increasing volume. The manual states that this disturbing second chime can be disabled by a Subaru dealer. I went to two dealers on four different occasions and they refused to comply. I called Subaru and I was advised that the company has no control over the actions of their dealers who are independent entities. Refer to page 3-14 of the owner's manual. I want to disconnect this feature as it is a hazard to safe driving.

The seat belt alert was activated. The vehicle was taken to Subaru of kennesaw (905 ernest w barrett pkwy NW, kennesaw, GA 30144) however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was later diagnosed and the contact was informed that there was a wiring harness connection failure, brake pedal sensor and that the seat bottom needed to be replaced. 50 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/16/2018

The passenger airbag warning light first came on as soon as I started my car one morning in mid-October 2018, in which I took my car to Subaru of kennesaw, GA to have it looked at. They first asked if I had spilled anything on the front seat (in which I responded "no") and then advised me that the whole seat bottom would need to be replaced (about $989 parts and labor) and that the part was on back-order. I followed-up with them in December 2018 and never heard back. When I recently went there for an oil change February 18, 2019 they brought the issue up to me again, in which I responded that nobody ever returned my call. They checked again to see if they had the part but stated it is still on a nationwide back-order. We are now going on 5+ months of my passenger airbag warning light being on (it sometimes turns off intermittently, but in those instances the passenger seatbelt light will come on and ding repeatedly until the seatbelt is plugged in - even if there is no passenger). I have done quite a bit of research into this issue and it seems like a lot of other consumers are experiencing similar issues. Subaru seems to have different explanations and seems very unwilling to fix their faulty passenger seat sensors. It is upsetting and discouraging to know that they have allowed me to drive around this long with a defective airbag/passenger seat sensor.

51 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

This used vehicle was purchased from a dealer as a "great buy", with 74589 miles on may 23, 2018. Less than one week later, bells and dings began sounding while driving, light indicators indicated that the srs system needed to be checked; that the passenger airbag was not on sometimes, other times it was. . Intermittent. Car in motion both on city streets and on highway. No recalls were reported at that time, and I never knew while driving whether either side seatbelts were engaged when I knew they were, nor whether airbags were viable. Dangerous for driver and for passenger. Independent dealer and service departments were perplexed, dealerships had no available parts. . . . . Here it is, oct. 2, 2018, over 4 months later, and no parts available to dealers or authorized repair companies to comply with safety regulations. This vehicle is unsafe; Subaru needs to provide parts at no expense to this customer to assure safety. And, they need to issue a recall or face potential lawsuits. . . . ## VIN passed ## Subaru Forester 2016 ##.

52 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/07/2018

Front passenger seat airbag sensor began not recognizing passengers sitting in the seat shortly after purchasing my brand new 2018 Subaru Forester. This started occuring while driving, turning off and on. After a while, it completely stopped recognizing any person sitting in the seat even after only just turning the car on. The dealership replaced it since it was in the warranty period but blamed us for it malfunctioning saying that we must have gotten the seat wet, causing the sensor to fail. We told them that we hadn't ever gotten the seat wet. One year and 3 months after we'd gotten our Forester back from the dealership after the airbag sensor repair, a passenger that sat in the seat brought to our attention the fact that the part of the seatbelt that sits to the left of the front passenger seat was loose. We took it to the same dealership again and they told us that the technician had reinstalled the seat belt incorrectly after the airbag sensor repair and that it was missing a part and that's why it was loose and not anchored properly. They were ordering the part and it would arrive within a week. When we returned a week later they informed us that they ordered the wrong part and now we'd have to wait another week for the seat belt to be anchored properly. Still waiting for the correct part to arrive for the seat belt to be anchored properly.

53 Seat Belt problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Front passenger airbag warning light comes on intermittently, either on start up or while driving, stays on for hours or days at a time, unrelated to whether the seat is occupied or not. When it is on, passenger seat belt light indicates it is not fastened even if it is. The seat has never had spills, rain or otherwise wet. This has been going on for at least 6 months. Subaru dealer states past error code b1760 which they reset and say there is nothing they can do because they can not find an immediate problem. Dealer admits that when warning light is on, the airbag will not deploy. This is so unsafe I hesitate to transport any front passengers. It is a large safety issue that is being ignored! can you do anything?.

54 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 02/11/2018

The eyesight had been manipulated to a warning even when there's no obstruction while driving forward, while backing up it gives a warning that someone or a vehicle is adjacent to my car. These are just a few of the problems I encounter. I have an idea who's behind this. But I cannot prove it. Someone very knowledgeable in computer security within my vicinity. It compromises the safety feature of the car while driving and even backing up in my garage.

55 Seat Belt problem of the 2012 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/06/2017

Takata recall. I was turning left when I was struck by a car going in the opposite direction. According to police the impact was at 01-1 o'clock. . My car was spun into the guard rail causing damage to left front and rt rear of my car. The seat belt latch failed and released the seat belt and the front air bag did not deploy. There is substantial damage to the interior of my car ,steering column , gear shift ,etc. I sustained rather severe neck injuries which I believe would have reduced or eliminated if the safety systems had operated.

56 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

This is an older car but still serviceable. The passenger side airbag warning light comes on sometimes accompanied by a seatbelt warming, whenever a passenger is seated and the car is moving. Also a message light indicates the passenger airbag is off. We took the car to a Subaru dealer to see what could be done. The only remedy offered was to replace the entire seat at a cost exceeding $2000. Not cost effective for what amounts to defective weight sensors. We have noted that newer subar's have had the sensors recalled. We request that the recall be extended to all affected Subaru vehicles.

57 Seat Belt problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/03/2017

Driver's Subaru was struck from behind by a box truck while stationary on a highway (driver had stopped just short of a multi-car collision but the box truck behind her was unable to stop); box truck pushed the Subaru into the car in front. Driver's seatbelt was on, but driver's chest struck the steering wheel and her head possibly hit the side window. Airbags did not deploy and seatbelt did not stop driver from striking steering wheel. Also, the empty front passenger seat rocketed forward on its rails all the way to the front, and at least three hinges flew off the passenger seat rail mechanism.

58 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/05/2017

There were 5 major issues with my vehicle that I want investigated. I was driving straight nb on us-101 in the #1 lane of traffic, going approximately 75 mph, when for no explainable reason, the rear tires of my 2016 Subaru Forester began to skid me across the #2 lane of traffic. I will note that it had just stopped sprinkling and the road was damp. Issue 1: during my skid, the skid control feature never engaged (which is a marketed feature and a reason I purchased this vehicle). I had to fight the skid on my own. Issue 2: the roll over feature never engaged (which is a marketed feature and another reason I purchased this vehicle). After fighting to prevent my vehicle from rolling over and skidding out of control, I ultimately crash on the shoulder of the freeway, hitting a light post. Issue 3: upon hitting the light post, my seat belt flew off. (both my hands were on the wheel at the time and there were no loose objects in the area. Unless this is some "feature" it is extremely dangerous for the seat belt to disengage automatically. ) issue 4: the crash notification feature, that I paid extra for, did not do it's job. Even with my cell phone linked to the vehicle, the crash notification never called 9-1-1 on my behalf. I immediately called 9-1-1 to notify chp of my accident because I was fearful of another vehicle also spinning out of control and hitting me. Chp took a report. ** issue 5 **: the air bags never deployed. None of the air bags deployed. My car was deemed totaled by the insurance company and auto body shop. The auto body shop stated vehicle hit the pole so hard all bolts were bent into a 45 degree angle. How does a crash that severe not engage the air bags? I had a scar on my collar bone for a month after the crash. None of the marketed or required safety features worked to prevent the crash nor assist after the crash.

59 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

Occupant detection system (ods) malfunctioning. Passenger airbag is off when an adult is seated in the front passenger seat. Sometimes the passenger airbag is on while there is no one (and nothing) on the seat, causing the seat belt warning chime to occur until seat belt is buckled. Supplemental restraint system (srs) light appears on dashboard and shuts down airbag system while driving. These things occur somewhat randomly when starting the car, continue while driving in the city and highway, and don't go away until the car is turned off. Sometimes restarting the car will correct the problem. I brought my Forester to the dealership back in 2017 and they reported that the sensors of the ods system were not working properly and will need to be replaces. Cost estimate is about $1,100. They said the likely cause is moisture or the seat got wet. I live in a dry climate area and have not gotten the seats wet at all recently (and barely ever in the past). Through research, I have found a very similar problem has occurred in the 2015-2018 models and there is a recall (wum-98) for those years. My Forester is a 2014 and is of the same generation but isn't included in the recall for some reason. Is it possible that the 2014 model should also be included if the same problem is happening? appreciate any help and insight you can offer!.

60 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/10/2016

Takata recall. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 16v358000 (air bags) and 12v099000 (seat belts). The part to do the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

62 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 04/19/2015

While driving my car on the highway, (approximate 65 mph) I got a message on the console that indicated that srs system had shut down and the red air bag light went on. I drove it home and then turned the car off. When I restarted it, the red air bag light went away. The next day while I was riding on the passenger side, the red airbag light went off and a note on the console said that the front passenger side airbag was not operational. I took the vehicle to the Subaru dealer who could not recreate the issue and turned the car back to us.

66 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/05/2013

My vehicle was recalled and the rear seatbelts were replaced on 1/5/2013. However, the new seatbelt latches are too flush to the seat and are difficult to buckle/unbuckle. Additionally, the new middle seatbelt latch and strap interfers and blocks buckling the side seatbelts.

67 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/29/2012

Pulling out of a parking space at the cvs drug store, pine island rd and del prado blvd in cape coral FL. , put the car into drive and the car accelerated on its on across the parking lot, hitting a parked car head on. My air bag deployed and my car hit the parked car so hard it drove it over a concrete barrier out of the lot. The damage to my car alone was $10,000. The other car was destroyed. I have had Subaru cars for 33 years. This Forester was my 8th Subaru. When the car accelerated, I was thrown back, my foot was not on the brake or gas pedal. The car kept running after the accident until I turned it off. State farm insurance sent a safety director over to check the car (after it was fixed), the body shop also had an inspector check the codes on the computer. I got rid of the car even though it had it have 11 months on the lease because I did not trust it.

Drivers seat belt will not release . You have to keep working with it & pulling on it to finally get it to release . This happens when the vehicle is stopped at 0 mph . This has been going on for the last 4 months . I fell this is very unsafe incase of fire, or for another reason you need to get out of the vehicle in a hurry .

69 Seat Belt problem of the 2010 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

I took my 2010 Subaru Forester this morning to farrish Subaru of fairfax, virginia to have the center seat belt replaced per the above recall. Farrish Subaru replaced the defective center seatbelt. When I returned home, I inserted all male handles into the female buckles. Since I had never ridden in the rear seat, I did not realize that all rear seat belts had been installed in an unsafe manner. In this situation the two center female buckles were toward the outside rear doors, while the right and left female seat buckles were on the inside center position. I returned to farrish Subaru where service consultant jack lindeman found that my rear seat belts were in an improper order. He called it a "birth defect", meaning that the installation had been done improperly at the factory. Lindeman agreed with my assessment that when all three seat belts were buckled, the straps crossed over the red release buttons. This made it impossible to reach the buttons to release the belts from the buckles. I asked lindeman to correct the problem. Farrish Subaru placed the buckles in the correct order with both female center buckles in the center and the right and left female buckles toward their respective outward positions. However, when I tried to insert the male center handle into its respective female buckle, the female center buckle fell below the seat cushion. Neither I nor lindeman was able to raise the female buckle above the cushion to its proper height except with great difficulty. This is a dangerous situation because the male handle cannot be inserted into the female buckle while that buckle is below the seat cushion. When I asked service consultant lindeman to fix the sinking seatbelt problem, he said he was unwilling to do anything further. This is a very dangerous situation. For the moment I have taped the female buckles together to prevent them from falling below the seat cushions. If there is a permanent solution, I would appreciate learning about it.
