36 Wheel problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/07/2021

Heard deep rumble while driving in may 2021 thought it may be start of muffler or exhaust problem but Subaru service said it is rear hub bearings. Service says there may be danger of tire falling off while driving.

37 Wheel problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 04/20/2021

I am writing to inform you of the following problems with the steering system of my 2017 Subaru Forester: 1) when turning or changing car lanes, the steering wheel does not engage the wheels until the steering wheel is turned to about a 90 degree angle in the direction of the turn, left or right, 2) after making a turn, it takes more rotations of the steering wheel to come out of the turn than it took to make the turn. At other times it takes more rotations of the steering wheel to make the turn than it does to come out of the turn, 3) constant adjustments to steering have to be made in order to stay in a lane regardless of whether the lane is straight or curved. It's like trying to maneuver a boat on water or like driving on a frictionless surface. It feels like the car switches to a different control system, either void of any driver control, or delayed response to driver input, and 4) the steering wheel has to be turned to almost a 90 degree angle before it engages the wheels while the car is running and stationary. With the exception of item 4, the steering problems occur when there are other cars in the vicinity of our car. On secluded roads our car drives fine, so far. The steering issues occur during city and highway driving. The steering problems occur even when the following car assistive technologies are all set to off: automatic braking, hill assist, lane change assist, x-mode, eyesight, and cruise control. On may 4, 2021, we took the car to the Subaru superstore of chandler in arizona. We showed the dealership a video of item 4 and they observed it. They described it as "egregious". The dealership stated that they could not find a reason for item 4 and they could not duplicate the other problems. They stated that they documented the problem. Having an unresponsive/delayed response steering system could prove disastrous when seconds count to avert a disaster. This has been an ongoing problem since October 2018, with no resolution from Subaru.

38 Wheel problem of the 2010 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 04/19/2021

I purchased this 2010 Subaru Forester from a private party in 2/2021. It had about 98500 miles, ran smoothly, had service records and was up to date in maintenance. It stalled out in traffic due to low fuel and oil issues. There was oil showing on the dipstick but also oil leaking under the engine when checked at a Subaru service dept. I now found that oil leaks and problems are common according to articles on line. It will cost thousands to either replace the seals or the engine!! for a vehicle of this caliber I expected years of services not immediate oil issues. This is a potential seizing of the engine issue. It consumes too much oil due to the leaks. Is there any pending lawsuits I can join to cover these repairs? secondly the low tire light is on at all times. Air pressure has been triple checked to no avail.

39 Wheel problem of the 2018 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 04/16/2021

The tire pressure sensor came on and even after the tires were checked and correct air was put in the sensor would not go off. We took it to the dealer and they said it would cost $170. 00 to replace one of the tire pressure sensors they said were faulty. Neither my warranty or extended warranty would cover it. My husband then purchased a tire pressure sensor and took it to a local mechanic shop for them to replace it, which have cost a total of $40. 00. The mechanic put it on their computers and couldn't identify a bad sensor, but something showing wrong in one of the computers reading the sensor. We are going to have to take it back to the dealer and try to get this rectified. If it is a computer then I feel it is a safety issue since we can not get an accurate reading and the tire pressure light is staying lit up on the dashboard.

43 Wheel problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/17/2020

The vehicle was maintained regularly in dealer's service center. It is a local commute vehicle and has less than 40000 miles. In Nov 2019, the vehicle was found out of alignment, four tires were worn out and two breaks were out too. All four tires and two breaks were replaced. In June 2020, I reported bad smell to the service center but nothing was found. In Sep 2020, bad smell was noticed again. The service center found oil leak in the engine front and back. The engine was opened and some parts were replaced. Service center also found the condenser was leaking and replaced it. In less than a year, three defects happened and two were rare but major defects. During this time, the car was only driven around 2000 miles. I reported to Subaru customer service. They just told me to keep an eye on it.

44 Wheel problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/18/2020

While the vehicle was in motion, I heard an unusual sound and felt vibration under the rear portion of the drivers floor mat. This was most noticeable at speeds 40 and above, on both highway and side roads. It occurred both when accelerating and when coasting. Diagnosis by mechanic resulted in left rear wheel bearings/hubs being replace 9/27/19. This was reported on complaint #11320955. Then on 6/18/20, the same thing occurred, with sound and vibration on the right side of the vehicle. The right rear wheel bearings/hub was replaced. I am very lucky that I did not miss or ignore this sound and have an issue with the vehicle while it was in motion. I am very concerned about the front wheels at this time, as it seems it may happen with them also.

45 Wheel problem of the 2019 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 02/22/2020

Tpms tire pressures do not appear on instrument panel. The pressures are in the computer, but never appear on the screen. The driver does not know whether tpms indicates a fuel economy issue, or an emergency. The "low tire pressure" display shows a large box on the display. That should have a number at each corner indicating the tire pressure, in green for ok, yellow for slightly low, and red for emergency. This would help the driver evaluate a tire problem and decide how to deal with it safely. Tpms has lit up when I'm in the left lane in heavy traffic. Do I have to get to the shoulder ASAP, or can I fill the tires when I get home? with the current system, I don't know. This could be fixed with a software update, no hardware changes needed.

46 Wheel problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/22/2020

Several issues: 1) replace rear strut assemblies. 04/22/19. (the car seemed fine but when they put it on a lift to work on brakes mechanics saw this. 2) the the engine shimmies and feels like it is going to stall. This has gone on since 2016. This happen when going about 30 mph. I had a mechanic look at it they found nothing. It still feels like it is going to stall. 3) bearings in rear passenger side in 2017. Rear wheels were making noise when driving around 40 mph. (different mechanic looked at this. 4) right front axle shaft replaced 06/26/19 this car has never been in an accident and is used for highway driving.

48 Wheel problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

September, 2019 - I detected a new and distinct sound, along with an odd vibration feeling in my vehicle. It was on the left side, with the vibration seeming to come from the area under my feet as I drive. It started at about 30- 40 mph and did not subside, even when I was not accelerating, or if I used the brakes to slow down some. Both the sound and vibration maintained while I was cruising at that speed or higher. I took the car to my mechanic, who determined that the left rear wheel hub was bad. I had it replace immediately. My vehicle is 5 years old and the mileage was 79364. Additional on this vehicle, I just received Subaru service program wut-05, a problem with the rear coil springs, which I also experienced in may, 2019. This vehicle has problems I should not be having at this age/mileage. Theses are safety issues as well and need to be addressed by Subaru.

49 Wheel problem of the 2006 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

Two flat tires on brand new cooper evolution tour 215-60r16 (@100 miles), both on the front. One flat noticed after the vehicle had been driven but sat for a few hours (no visible deflation upon exiting); this tire had no visible punctures, though there appeared to be a bit of tear between the treads (see photo). After driving home on a spare, all remaining tires seemed ok. The next morning the other front tire was visibly deflated and had a sizable bulge.

50 Wheel problem of the 2019 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/07/2019

I recently had my tires rotated for the first time and the mechanic reported that only 3 of the 5 lug nuts were torqued to specification. The other two were only "finger tight".

51 Wheel problem of the 2010 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/05/2019

On August 2019 I purchased a vehicle from an auto dealership called motor car concept in colonial drive in orlando, FL. They scam me into buying a vehicle that they knew was not going to be running or in good conditions within 6 months. I tried to have them fix the car within a day of buying the vehicle as the check engine turned on. They will give me days to come in and then I will show up and nothing will be done, turning me down as they where "to busy". On November I was put into a position of voluntary doing a repossession as I was paying insurance and a car loan for a vehicle that could not be used. The whole part of the the bottom of the car is moldy and rusty and it needs to be fully replaced. I went to get an estimate for repairs and the total was over $7,000. The car was sold to me for $13,000. Is a complete scam. Below please find the pictures of the damages of the vehicle. VIN # for this car is (xxxxx) redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

52 Wheel problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/18/2019

Both rear wheel bearing had to be replaced at 74,000 miles. While in the dealership to have them replaced three other customers were having the same problem.

53 Wheel problem of the 2018 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/14/2019

I was driving down I-40 east between morrisonville and cary in north carolina where the speed limit is 65 mph and had a plow out. There were only 20,000 miles on the tires, I just had the vehicle serviced in may of this year. The yokohama tire shredded just leaving the tread and the rim. Fortunately, there were no injuries except for the fear of my seven-year-old grandson, on an interstate with vehicles speeding down the highway on a Friday afternoon, for the weekend. I had to purchase a new tire and now I am told I will have to buy 3 more because the truck is a 4 wheel drive. There was more than a half a penny of tread left on this tire and now I have to delay a trip because of the problems with my tires. I did not run over a nail nor did I rub against any that would cause a tear in the tire. These tires are defective and as a Subaru owner am disappointed with the product I purchased. I have enjoyed my Subaru and have a long admirer of the vehicle for years. I plan to trade this vehicle in the next 2 years for another vehicle and was planning to retire with this one.

54 Wheel problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/13/2019

The car was wobbly and went in for service and they found one rear strut the technician took it for a drive and the other one broke on him. It costs me $1390 to fix it and I drove it on the highway and it still wobbly. Subaru does not want to acknowledge the fact there is a major issue with this vehicle. This should have been recalled by Subaru when they knew about this. This car also had rotors that needed to be replaced, the arm control, wheel bearings all under 60,000. This is a serious issue, I could get killed or have a major accident and Subaru does not want to hear about it. I am scared to drive this car.

55 Wheel problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/07/2019

Three passenger front tire studs sheared, properly hand torqued prior, two lug nuts with studs retrieved in driveway, 20 deg f. Pulling out of garage lh turn, 3 mph. Failed and remaining two studs retained when replaced. Possible nil ductility temp. Google revealed other recent. Failures.

56 Wheel problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 02/07/2019

Wheel bearing had to be replaced. Noises occurred when driving. Dealership fixed without charge.

57 Wheel problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

While completing a tire rotation, I placed the spare tire on the hub as a placeholder while I moved on to other wheels. I hand tightened the lugnuts holding the spare on (no wrench, no over torqueing). I left the driver front jacked up supported by a jack stand while I completed the rest of the tire rotation; the spare was never lowered to the ground and weighted, it was simply installed as a backup to my jack stand. When I came back to the driver front to remove the spare and install the normal wheel, 2 of the 5 lugnuts that I had hand tightened seized. When I attempted to remove them after application of penetrating oil, two of the studs snapped rendering the car entirely unsafe to drive. When I went around the car with a torque wrench set to the manual specified torque of 89 ft/lbs a third stud stripped. I do not know what caused the studs to snap or strip. I did not over torque the lugnuts, they were hand tightened less than 30 minutes prior. There is no reason for hand tightened lugnuts to seize on a wheel stud and cause the lugnuts to snap other than deficiency or weakness of the wheel stud. I have never over torqued the wheels; I always use a torque wrench set to 89ft/lbs as specified in the owner's manual to tighten the lugnuts. I did not cross thread the lugnuts; I ran them down by hand to ensure that they were correctly installed. My research on various Subaru online forums suggested that the wheel studs commonly fail and many users suggested replacing all wheel studs with aftermarket hardened racing studs rather than installing new oem parts. When I contacted Subaru I received the response "Subaru appreciates your time in communicating with us, however we do not investigate every concern that is reported to us. ".

58 Wheel problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/05/2018

Couldn't start car found out it was because my brake lights were not working had to have replace at my own expense. Now I cant always get my key our of the ignition. Also my tire pressures don't stay up. I have had to inflate them about 3 time in as many months.

59 Wheel problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/23/2018

Bullet-end of parking brake cable came off, allowing brake drums to fall loose and tumble inside the right rear wheel at highway speed, just as I was slowing for a rest stop. Repair cost $545; I have documents but can't scan them at the moment -- if they matter, I can copy and mail them.

60 Wheel problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

I have a 2016 Forester with yokohama g91f tires and just had inspection they said tire tread was good except the side are worn down so I required new tire to pass. I found multiple issues with this tire online. The tire is for passenger vehicles but says it can be used on crossover and SUV but talked with several tire shops that all recommend using SUV specific tires as they see the same issue over and over with certain multi catagory tires like this where because of ride height, vehicle weight and center of gravity when rounding corners these tires get worn down really quickly because of it being more passenger vehicle centric because the edges are more rounded where as SUV specific tires have more of a flat bottom and square edges so they don't slip. I also believe this is why a lot of complaints talk about poor performance in wet weather as the slip in corners. These are standard on Forester and yokohama won't cover oem tires at all. I believe this needs investigated especially since they just started selling their new ascent 3 row SUV not sure if it has same tires. If you wish to contact me my email is emp1976@comcast. Net I would be willing to help research and send proof from user reviews and tire dealers plus can take photos.

61 Wheel problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

At 38k excessive vibration and noise at highway speeds was noticed. Dealer replaced both of the front lower control arm bushings. At 42k the front right wheel bearing went bad and was replaced. Probably caused by the bad control arm bushings. At 44k the control arm bushings were bad again. This caused a severe loss of control of the car in slick conditions. This time the dealer replaced both of the control arm assemblies. This is a real problem with this vehicle. Time for a recall.

62 Wheel problem of the 2018 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 04/15/2018

Since I purchased my vehicle in 2018, when I'm driving on the freeway at a speed between 65 to 70 my tires feel unbalanced. Sometimes it feels like my car is swerving and it feels like it's hard to control the car .

63 Wheel problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/14/2018

Failed recall on 2004 Subaru Forester xt front lower control arms. The front lower control arm on the passenger side of my Forester rusted in half. When backing out of a flat concrete driveway onto a city street, as I began to turn the wheel I heard/felt a pop in the front end. As I began to straighten the wheel it started making a grinding noise and I noticed the steering felt funny/loose. Before foing any further I pulled the car strait back into the driveway to inspect the problem. While I was jacking the car up I noticed immediately the front passenger wheel appear to go limp and sloppy. After crawling underneath to check I found that the control arm had completely broke/rusted in half. A few weeks earlier I noticed the front control arms on both sides were quite rusted. After a little research I found that Subaru had a recall on the control arms and would either replace then or re coat them. I then contacted a local dealer about the recall. After running my VIN the told me that my vehicle had already been serviced for that recall in 2012 and that my control arms were under coated and therefore were not covered for replacement. So now after my control arm is completely broken I contacted the same dealer again and was told to try contacting Subaru of America but that they could do nothing. I then contacted Subaru of America and after giving them all my information was told again that my vehicle had already been serviced for the recall and was not covered, but if I took it to a dealer they would "look at it". I then contacted another local dealer and I was able to trailer it there myself. I am waiting for a response. This is a dangerous problem that needs to be addressed immediately before someone is hurt. Had the control arm broke while driving doen the road at any rate of speed the results could be catastrophic or even fatal.
