2 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 02/06/2007

I own a 2002 Subaru wrx. In Feb. 2007 I started the car and strong gasoline smell entered the cabin. I searched the internet and found that this is a well know defect in the 2002 model when starting in cold weather. The dealer knew the trouble well and fixed it with change in fuel line near intake manifold. My question is why this serious flaw did not trigger a recall when a fire could certainly result from leaking fuel near the manifold?.

4 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 12/18/2006

Fuel leak in cold weather, resulting in raw fuel smell in the cabin of the car and the danger of fuel igniting in the engine bay. There has been a technical service bulletin issued by Subaru of America, but I can't believe this isn't a recall. This is a serious problem and can have disastrous consequences. For people out of warranty, this is absolutely absurd to have to pay for the repairs. +.

5 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 12/07/2005

When the outside temperature drops below 20ã‚â°f a very strong gasoline smell happens inside and outside the car. Subaru is aware of this and have TSB 09-36-03 to cover cars under warranty and expect the out of warranty owner to have the manufacturing defect repaired. This affects 2002 wrx cars and the design was changed per the TSB. The smell is severe and can also fill the garage where the car is parked. Subaru are aware of this and should recall the affected 2002 models. Gasoline leaking onto the area of the intake manifold has to be a safety concern.

6 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 01/17/2005

Strong gasoline smell in cold weather.

7 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 01/15/2005

Severe fuel smell in cabin and under hood during cold weather, 30f or below. Manufacturer issued service bulletin. Dealers quote $400-$500 to fix what should be a recall.

8 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 12/22/2004

Gasoline smell when starting car in cold weather (<20f). This has been a recurring problem on my 02 Subaru wrx. The first event was at approx 15000 miles and the fuel line clamps were tightened. A second time at 45000 miles and the dealer could not duplicate (because the car was warm in the dealership. ) now at 73,000 miles in 20f weather, the smell has returned when starting the car with the engine cold. I can see the gasoline puddling below the problem hose clamps. Subaru has known about this for years now and issued a TSB, but the dnagerous fuel leak problem persists! of course, the repair they did on my car (tightening the clamps) while it was in warranty was not a permanent fix, and I face potential repairs at my cost for a problem Subaru should have fixed by now. Not only is this a safety defect (fuel pubbling on the engine), it is also likely an emissions defect (raw gasoline vapors to the atmosphere) and a passenger health risk from breathing gasoline vapors. I don't understand why there has not been a recall on this long-known problem!.

9 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 11/26/2004

Started the car first thing in the morning to drive approximately 1. 5 miles to the store. Outside temperature was about 48 degrees f. After returning directly from the store (the same 1. 5 miles) there was a very strong smell of gasoline as I stepped out of the car. I smelled at the gap between the hood and driver's fender and determined the engine bay to be the source of the gasoline smell. I used a flashlight to search for any visible leaks, but I could not see the gasoline. The smell was incredibly strong though. It seemed to be the strongest right above the manifold between the intercooler, manifold, and turbo. I'm very worried of an engine fire due to the leaking. I'm taking the car to the dealer for examination of this problem.

10 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 01/19/2004

I have a 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx which has a strong fuel smell coming through the vents during warm-up/driving in sub-freezing temperatures. However, once the car warms up. . . . The fuel smell goes away until the cars cools off again and the whole thing starts again. I have read the TSB and haven't had time in goto Subaru because I have some concerns as to whether it will be taken care of since I am beyond my 3/36 warranty. I took it to them once about a year a ago for the same problem and they smelled it but couldn't find a "leak" so they just tightened all the clamps down. But now it's back and I can see fuel on the solid fuel line under the intake elbow. I am hoping a recall is in order. Thanks NHTSA.

11 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

12 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

13 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

14 Fuel Delivery problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 01/05/2004

I own a 2002 Subaru wrx, when it gets cold out side below 32 degrees fahrenheit and you turn the heater on. You get a gas smell coming out of the heating ducts. Subaru knows about the problem and have issued a TSB for it but no recall. The problem seems to be a misalignment of the fuel hoses which can cause them to leak. This could be a very serious problem and there needs to be a recall on it.
