36 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

I was sitting in traffic when I pushed down on clutch pedal and realized I had no clutch. I had to rev car to 2,500 rpm to put in gear to drive. Then every time I came to a stop the car felt wired to stop. As I looked by my feet I noticed my clutch and brake pedal was moving quite freely to side to side. It was to late in day to take car to dealer and being a mechanic I checked car out myself. That's when I saw that the bracket that is welded to my firewall broke completely off. After dealing with Subaru and the dealer for a week now I have to pay $500 to have them fix the car as a courtesy they said. There are hundreds of complaints of this issue and what if I was on the highway and had to stop suddenly when this happened. I could have caused a major accident. Why do I have to pay to fix the flaw in the structural integrity of my vehicle that can cause an accident!.

37 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

I was driving slowly through my neighborhood, put in the clutch and heard a loud crack. I couldnt figure out what it was so after taking a quick look I kept driving. Every time I put the clutch in I heard a loud creak or squeak. It got worse over the next months. Yesterday, I realized that the firewall had cracked where the clutch and brake pedal mount. The metal flexes when clutching or braking. If I use the clutch I can see the brake pedal move about half an inch back. I do not believe this allows the clutch to fully depress and I think that if I have to make an emergency stop the crack could get worse and tear not allowing the car to stop at all.

38 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Problem started with a squeaking/clicking when the clutch was depressed. Recently the whole clutch/brake assembly shifts down and to the left about 1/4-1/2" when the clutch is depressed. Looking up the problem, I see I have the same issue as many owners, the welds that hold the assembly to the firewall have broken free. Now it is difficult to shift at times.

39 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Said bracket ripped almost in half on one side. It's about a 3 inch tard from a factory drilled hole in bracket. Now the clutch pedal will not fully return and brake pedal moves sideways.

40 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

About a year ago I started hearing a creaking noise. Only recently the noise had gotten worse so being a mechanic myself I decided I would take a few days and remove my dash board to pinpoint the noise since it had gotten worse lately. After removing the dash I could clearly see that the pedal assembly was bolted to a thin bracket that was welded to the main body frame. When I removed the pedals the bracket just fell right out. No weld was holding my clutch and brake pedal. I was amazed that the assembly never fell off while I was driving it for a year. Mind you the clutch was original and modifications was a simple air cleaner. I decided to rescuer it to the frame with machine nuts and bolts. After I assembled it there was still play in the pedal assembly and only a few weeks later the noise had returned. I guess the bracket needs to be secured better but this is why I'm concerned. One the noise is unbearable and two it's just not safe it could brake off again the move the brake pedal enough to cause someone to miss the pedal and accelerate into an accident.

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 12/22/2011

I work as a valet attendant. I have parked a large number of vehicles. I had to park this vehicle in a parking spot. To park in this spot I had to make a right to line up for the spot. The car accelerated suddenly. I had all my weight on the brakes to avoid slamming into a wall,I turned hard right and crashed the car against the corner of a concrete column. The airbag deployed during the accident, then I heard a purge and multiple clicking noises. The brakes did not stop the car at all. The breaks felt rock hard before the accident. Again"the brakes did not stop this car from crashing" I suffered a severely fractured hip socket injury. This accident leaves me with the likely hood of needing hip replacement due to hip arthritis. If it wasn't for the airbag I would have suffered severe head and chest injury. I also no longer work as a parking attendant, and having a hard time finding a job. I am not a teenager joyriding . I am an adult, parking cars for a living. I have driven high end vehicles with way more power, but have never experienced any thing like this. Now I have difficulty driving, and I afraid to get behind the wheel. I am a male driver with 20+ years of driving experience, but I am looked at as a reckless driver for wrecking this car.

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

The brake pedal on my 2002 Subaru sometimes gets soft (looses brake pressure), specially when it's cold and the sits parked for several hours. The dealer has changed an expansion valve( ? ), but the problem comes back on occasion. This problem makes me feel insecure about my brake system. The dealer says everything is ok, but the problem persists.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 02/12/2004

I was driving to work this yesterday (2/12/04) morning, and was just crossing an intersection. I was going about 15mph, and saw the car in front of me hit there breaks. I pushed down the pedal, and to my horror, it seemed to go all the way to the floor without my car stopping at all. Next thing I knew, I had rear-ended a Buick (which as an aside suffered nothing worse than a scratched bumper, compared to my folded hood, ruining front bumper, and other twisted metal). I have about 15k miles on the car, and have not experienced this problem before. This is my first accident in almost 15 years of driving, and don't really know how to procede. I called my local Subaru dealer, who said he had no idea of such a problem. When the police officer was asking me what happened just after the accident, I describe the pedal to the floor for him, and hopefully he'll include my statement in the report.
