One problem related to automatic transmission gear indicator has been reported for the 1997 Subaru Legacy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle going down hill in ast gear; would pop out of 1st gear into neutral & take off/accelerate; would lose control until shifted into 1st. Happens intermittenly. Dealer says can not fix because can not duplicate problem.
