Three problems related to transmission failure have been reported for the 2000 Subaru Legacy. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2000 Subaru Legacy based on all problems reported for the 2000 Legacy.

1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2005

At about 76,000 miles, very occasionally, the car hesitated before engaging in drive. The problem started occurring more often recently, and now at 82,000, according to a Subaru dealer, the transmission apparently needs to be replaced. I am trying a "flush" before replacing the transmission. I believe Subaru should warranty their transmissions for more than 60,000 miles or recall the part in the transmission that fails.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2003

Transmission failed after 67,500 miles, within the warranty time period but out of the milage limit. Dealer cannot find a replacement.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2000

Transmission failed, dealer is replacing it.
