Aug 2025: 2018 Subaru Legacy, 55,500 miles. Issue: rearview camera froze with high-pitch sound for about 10-seconds, then shut off, while in reverse. I was not aware immediately of this. Did not hit the cars behind me but definitely could have. Unknown if reverse lights affected. Based on online searches, rearview cameras not working is criteria for a recall. Background: my main screen is affected by Subaru screen delamination (can't use touch at all). My exact model got an extended warranty, but I was not aware of this extension until after it passed. Subaru of America and dealers refused to service it unless I paid full price out-of-pocket. Fast-forward to now, reverse camera being affected. I also see mention online of emergency broadcast radio being blocked, since it does not stay on one channel, due to screen issues. I do not recommend Subaru (not the only issue I've had on a once new vehicle).

Touch screen driver information system has random display and audible warnings. Audio and navigation display cannot be controlled and does random radio channels and map displays. The screen developed bubbles under the front panel that appears to activate the touch sensor for the display. This condition is very distracting to the driver and might cause unsafe vehicle operation. The display changing and beeping during driving causes an unsafe situation. It also impacts the ability to use and see the rear view camera as the display is distorted due to the delamination/bubbles. This problem was identified by many Subaru Legacy and outback owners in 2018 which led to a recall and warranty extension for repairs. The radio/nav display is manufactured by harmon. It was widely reported in 2019 and the problem persists. Subaru contends that the display bubbles are caused by liquid contamination of the display, but this has not occurred in our vehicle, and dealers will not accept responsibility for the defective displays.

The contact owns a 2021 Subaru Legacy. The contact stated that while his wife was reversing out of the garage, the rearview camera froze. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact’s wife was able to reset the rearview camera with the assistance of his daughter who looked up the information on the internet. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that no issues were found. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred several times while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who completed a 504-software update; however, the failure reoccurred twice while the contact was driving from the dealer to his residence. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would either ship a head unit to the dealer for the repair of the vehicle or they would buy back the vehicle. The manufacturer followed up with the contact and informed him that they would not assist as the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 20v766000 (back over prevention) however, the vehicle year was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

When driving my vehicle from las vegas nv to mesquite nv the bsd/rcta automatically disabled itself out of nowhere. I have low mileage on my vehicle and my vehicle has never been in an accident so I took it to Subaru dealership where I get all my maintenance done and they have no clue why all of the sudden the sensor malfunctioned and it was at no fault to my own they said but since the vehicle is no longer in warranty so I will have to pay a pretty penny and I just feel that should be the manufacturer do to the fact that this is a safety feature on their vehicles and it was not my fault it malfunctioned it was their system.

Sitting in parked vehicle, motor off, windows down heard a quick popping sound. I looked sitting in parked vehicle, engine off, windows down, heard a quick popping noise. A quick inspection, looking around saw nothing. About 20 minutes later driving home, top speed 35 mph, on a local community road, saw a hairpin crack starting from bottom of window, driver's side, going up across windshield and midway across. The window was clear except for crack. Called a reputable company to schedule appointment. The representative suggested I call the Subaru maintenance department as previous Subaru customers had recall on windshield. I call to learn VIN not a recall. I am extremely happy with my Subaru. I have taken the vehicle back to the Subaru dealer from whom I purchased every six month for oil change and all recommended mileage maintenance inspection. Due to low mileage, 26,433, could it be possible the windshield may be defective? thanking you in advance for a quick response. 😊.
