1 Seats problem of the 2021 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 03/22/2024

A recall was issued Mar 22, 2024 for a dangerous safety issue. An air bag that does not deploy during a crash can increase the risk of injury. Remedy dealers will replace the ods sensors on the front passenger seat, free of charge. Interim letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed may 17, 2024. Owners will receive a second letter once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is wra-24. Nhtsa issued their recall for this problem. Nhtsa recall number24v227000 recall status recall incomplete, remedy not yet available now 8 months later Subaru drivers are still forced to drive around with this dangerous defect. This is totally unacceptable, irresponsible and local Subaru dealers have received no part for this repair and have not idea when they will ever get them. Nhtsa needs to step in and get answers from Subaru and issue notices to owners with this problem of the danger involved if there is a crash and their passenger is killed because of this delay.

4 Seats problem of the 2015 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 04/18/2018

I have had several battery issues that I just believed to be bad luck and would get a new battery under warranty but it has gotten worse lately. It led me to look online and I notice I am not nearly the only one as this complaint has been brought up my numerous people. It is in regards to my 2015 Subaru Legacy and how I’m not certain if my car will start if I make a few short trips where I’m “in and out” of the car more than 3 times in a short period of time. There is definitely a parasitic draw issue from the vehicle and it is a safety concern in not knowing if your vehicle is going to start or if you’ll need a jump or worse be stranded. With the amount of complaints on this issue I would have thought there would be a recall. I know there are safety bulletins but nothing that the dealer or Subaru themselves will address. I have also signed up for the battery settlement case but have not heard back in regards to this. I am really wanting to know if there is a solution because I’ve read a lot of reviews where this is happening in newer models also. It needs to be addressed and a resolution should be offered because it is happening to a lot of Subarus. My other concern was the seats and moonroof. The leather driver seat has torn up and I have put covers over it to look similar but I use a sun screen for the vehicle often and it still tore up the seat. Lastly the moonroof has a defect that the dealer wouldn’t address. There is something wrong with the seal and loud wind gets in somewhere and makes the vehicle shake as though you turned up a base speakers to the loudest setting. The battery issue has been going on for years as well as the moonroof that has a spot that is allowing in air and causes the vehicle to shake. Please help hold Subaru accountable for these issues and get back to me with some sort of solution! thank you for your time.

5 Seats problem of the 2015 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 02/07/2018

After both front door seals were replaced in 2016,, the wind noise returned. Spoke to Subaru customer service, and was they sent me a sorry for the inconvenience check for $250. 00 which didn't cover the original issue.

6 Seats problem of the 2005 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

The vehicle was parked on a city street. My son went out in the morning to move it to find the driver side seat burned completely out and soot all over the car. His insurance (liability only) would not cover the damage and was told by Subaru to have it towed to a dealer at his expense for them to inspect it. After over a month he was told that the fire by their determination was not caused by the heated seats but by another source. It is obvious by the pictures and by inspection that the fire was caused and started by faulty wiring on the heated seats.

8 Seats problem of the 2015 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

Our windshield developed a crack that grew over two days and now extends half the width of the windshield. We discovered this crack when getting into the car after it was parked. There is no obvious reason for this crack. We have no memory of hitting or being hit by any object. I understand that such spontaneous cracks have appeared on other Subaru outbacks and legacies.

9 Seats problem of the 2014 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

Experienced stuck driver's window last summer in period of temperature fluctuations (extreme to moderate heat), reported/shown to dealership; same issue this February (extreme to moderate cold). Otherwise, no problems with car since began lease fall 2014. On Monday, March 9, 2015, parked car across the street from my house about 6:15/6:30pm. Did errands, returned about 30/45 minutes later to get glasses out of center console -- 7/7:15pm. Then I locked the car with remote key piece. Car acknowledged with sound, lights. This was the last interactive action taken with car. Car had been idle for 30/45 minutes. I saw nothing new, unusual. I returned to the car approximately 12 hours later, around 7am, Tuesday, March 10, 2015 to get in the car to go to work. The remote key system was not functioning; a first since I'd gotten the car. I tried the car key in the front driver's door. Didn't work. Again odd. I tried the back driver's side door; it was open (again odd; I'd locked the car the previous evening). I bent inside, looked toward the driver's door and noticed the door's manual door lever mangled. I worried the car might have been vandalized overnight (unusual; I live in a low-crime neighborhood). There was a powerful, chemical-like smell in the car. I came around to the passenger side, bent in through the front passenger door. Experienced strong chemical smell again. From this vantage point, I noticed the driver's side door, on the side by the dash and front wheel, was burnt and gutted; part of dash adjacent burnt. I looked outside of the car; saw no exterior damage. Found no personal items missing, including loose change left in car for tolls/meters. Asked neighbors living on part of street where the car was parked; they had not seen a fire or explosion that morning or previous evening. Called state farm to report the incident. Took pictures 8am.

12 Seats problem of the 2014 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

The mechanical adjustment for the upper seat back does not engage properly. It requires the driver to pull the seat-back forward to engage, otherwise the handle will remain the up position. The dealer replaced the seat under warranty, but it did not fix the problem. The device manager stated that the mechanical seats have that issue on several of their vehicles, including different years. If in an accident and the seat is not engaged properly it could result in injury.

14 Seats problem of the 2011 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 01/13/2012

Passenger air bag sensor indicator light will intermittently show indicator as off with occupant in passenger seat (weight approx. 110 pounds). Passenger removes all weight from seat and reapplies weight in same position and/or reset procedure detailed in manual performed and sensor will usually come back on. Vehicle has visited authorized repair facility on three occasions regarding issue and first two visits repair attempt made in form of "re-zeroing weight sensor" (first attempt) and "passenger occupant detection sensor calibration procedure" (second attempt). Third visit was told by service manager that part is performing within Subaru specifications. Called soa customer service today and spoke to supervisor who said part was performing within specifications (and federal safety specs) due to authorized facility last stating as such despite still having issues. Supervisor explained sensitivity and nuances of system but was not to my satisfaction as light will be off and then come on after resuming same position after removing and reapplying weight. Told supervisor that was unsatisfactory that I would submit complaint to NHTSA and possibly write congress-person for investigation/help. Was then told issue would be escalated to senior representative who would contact me next day.

15 Seats problem of the 2010 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/17/2010

The 2010 Subaru Legacy gt has a defect in the sensor that determines weight in the passenger seat. This sensors function is to turn the airbag on or off depending on the amount of weight in the seat. With a 114 pound woman in the passenger seat, the automatic airbag sensor does not signal for the airbag to be ready to deploy and continues to be in the off mode. After taking the vehicle to multiple Subaru dealerships, I was informed that the needed weight to turn the airbags to the on mode was 17 pounds. My 114 pound wife is far more than 17 pounds but the airbag sensor still does not trip to the on mode. I am worried that a passenger will not be protected in a possible crash.

16 Seats problem of the 2010 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 03/31/2010

Front passenger airbag works intermittently. Purchased new 2010 Legacy from hudson Subaru jersey city in Mar 2010. Front passenger airbag light is frequently off when I am sitting in seat (5'7" & 135lbs). Is properly activated half of the time. Tried many things to get airbag to turn on including: 1. With car running, unfastening passenger seatbelt and refastening 2. With car running, opening passenger door, exiting car and getting back in 3. Exiting car, shutting car off, restarting car and getting back in 4. With car running lifting myself up and off seat and sitting back down as hard as possible. Husband took car to hudson Subaru on 11/9/10 and they recalibrated seat module and sensor. Problem persisted so he called hudson Subaru on 10/12/11. Said they have received a number of calls regarding this issue, but that there is nothing they can do. Sensor is designed to activate airbag when 90lbs of pressure is applied to seat. If a smaller person is not sitting squarely in seat, sensor may not detect persons weight and airbag will not be activated. Called Subaru on 10/12/11 and opened a case. Also emailed Subaru on 10/20. Received email reply on 10/26 requesting I bring car to dealership and meet with a field rep. On 11/1 rep indicated weight setting is not 90lbs its closer to 112lbs. Said he met with a couple in flemington having same issue and had to replace gel bladder in seat. He asked to see car and checked to be sure seatback not reclined and then asked me to sit in car. Pointed out that backs of my thighs did not touch seat and suggested my full weight was not being detected by sensor. He kept car overnight and performed different tests, but was unable to replicate problem. He emailed me a page from owners manual which detailed how someone should sit in seat and steps an owner should take if the airbag does not activate.

17 Seats problem of the 2009 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/21/2009

2009, 2010 head rests are so uncomfortable I am actually developing lower back pain for the first time in my life. You have sacrificed permanent disabling back problems for a safety issue. The head is pushed to far forward, straining my neck. I am a tall woman so I sit up straight unlike a man. I am in a chronic state of discomfort because of the new head rests. We have decided to lease a car versus purchasing a car because of this serious issue. We were going to purchase a new gm vehicle but can not because of these new head rests. I have shopped all car makes, Toyota, Chrysler, Subaru, and all the seats are impossibly uncomfortable and create either a neck ache, lower back ache, or both. Please change your policy on this issue, no one wants these cars they are so bad. Even my 28 year old daughter tried some and said she will keep her older car going before she would sit in cars made so uncomfortably.

19 Seats problem of the 2005 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/09/2008

I was stopped in traffic on a bridge when a pick up truck behind me did not and hit my car in the rear. The car sustained about $9600 in damage. The car was a 2005 Subaru Legacy. I sustained injury to my back, my head, left elbow and left calf. The car was not going outrageously fast. The bridge traffic was not moving that fast to begin with. The back of the seat frame on the left side gave and bent. This I believe caused or was responsible for the bulk of my injury.
