6 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2021

My car battery failed in September then again in October. I wasn't quite sure what the issue was but it didn't seem to be back:back. Then at the end of February- 5 days in a row I had to have my battery jumped. Dealer saw it and claimed it was a dead battery and only needed charging. At the end of March (today), the car's battery failed again. I reported the issue to Subaru. They said they would do an analysis on the battery. A towing service came to jump my car. At all times, without a jump the car will not turnover. I also noticed- maybe related maybe not- the car's calculation for mileage is all over the place. Specifically, within 30 seconds it can go from 3 mpg, 55 mpg, 7 then several hundred; it makes no sense.

7 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2021

After driving the car, parking, and turning the car off for a short time, the car will not start. The battery is dead and has to get jump started. Something drains the battery. This occurs randomly, bur has happened to me 3 times, twice at around 7,000 miles and once at 8,800 miles. After the second time it happened , the dealer looked at it and said the rear dome light was left on. While I never used the rear dome light, I accepted the explanation. However, with this latest occurrence , I am certain that no lights were left on. I will take the car to the dealership to see if they can determine the problem. I am concerned because I cannot depend on this car to start whenever I go to drive it.

10 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2021

Battery goes dead when don't drive it weekly. Purchased new from dealer in June 2020. Have had aaa out twice to jump the battery. Have been told by aaa and dealership to drive the car or start it and let it run for 30 minutes every couple of days to keep battery charged because electronics drain the battery. Car was in garage.

11 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2021

I purchased my 2020 Outback in may 2020. In February 2021, I had about 5400 miles on the car when the battery seemed to die. Admittedly the temperatures were cold and the car was outside for 48 hours without being driven. I was unable to successfully jumpstart the car when I attempted to do so one week later. The temperature that day was in the upper 20s. I tried again 3 days later when the temperature was about 40. I successfully jumpstarted it that day and I let it idle for 20 minutes. The next morning, it would not start again so I had to jumpstart it once again. This time I idled it for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon (it started without a jump in the afternoon). The next morning it once again required jumpstarting. I let it idle for 20 minutes in the morning and another 20 minutes in the afternoon (once again jumpstarting in the afternoon was not necessary). Finally, it started on its own the next morning and I drove it to the dealer who said everything with the battery and the electrical system was fine. There was no evidence of any electrical problem. I am not convinced about this in light of problems with 2017-2019 Outback battery failures.

12 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2021

Car will not start. Battery is dead. We drove it Monday and it was fine. We did not use lights and made sure everything was off. Today, it would not start. Battery was dead!.

13 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2021

The battery died with only about 6500 miles on the car. The car was last driven 48 hour ago. Nothing was left on. The vehicle was in a warm garage since it was last driven.

14 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2021

My 2020 Subaru Outback is just over a year old and has just over 15,000 miles on it. In the last month, the battery has died 4 times causing me to be stranded. The cause of the battery dying is very minor electrical usage when the car is off, resulting in the car not starting.

15 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2021

Battery dies. The car is little over 1 year old, the battery died and it had to be towed September 2020, dealer charged it up, the battery died again in January 2021 and dealer replaced with a new battery. The control panel has gone "black" several times no status shows.

16 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2020

On the 21st of December the battery in my Outback went dead. I took it into the local dealership and they recharged the battery. When I tried to start the car two days later, the battery was dead again. I have an appointment to take it back to the dealership on the 29th of December. Both times, the car was started 10-12 hours before.

17 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2020

My car is less than 1 year old and only has 3200 miles. The battery has died twice in that time and needed to be jumped. Last time was Feb 23 2021.

18 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2020

On October 11, 2020 the car battery died. I got a jump from Subaru service on 10/12/20 and brought it to Subaru stamford for service. The tailgate open/close switch was stuck in the on position and may have caused the battery to drain. The switch was replaced. On 12/6/20 the car battery died again. I got a jump from Subaru service and then drove the car for 20 minutes. One hour later the battery was dead. On 12/7/20 I jumped the battery and took it to Subaru stamford for service. The mechanic checked all electrical systems and found no issues. I asked to have the battery replaced which was done. Note that these two incidents occurred while I lived at 171 courtland Ave, stamford, CT. I am moving permanently to longmont colorado on 12/13/20.

19 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2020

The battery started failing after less than 8000 miles on the car that is less than a year old. It left us stranded multiple times and jump start was required. Once upon jump starting the car the power steering was not functional. Multiple times the airbag failure indicator stayed on for the entire trip. Initially it was not clear to me what is going on as the whole electrical system went haywire and the car was producing a clattering noise instead of the usual starting noise. Eventually I tested the battery and it became evident that it failed. There are many such reports on the internet and also class action lawsuits against Subaru due to their failure to address the underlying design flaws of the car. I hope that the NHTSA will force Subaru to properly analyze the problem, come up with a proper fix and issue a recall to address this issue with obvious safety aspects.

20 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

Did not drive car for 2 weeks, battery dead.

21 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2020

I picked up my car , drive it home (227 miles) on 11/24/2020. The next morning the battery was dead and I was unable to open the hatchback. We charged the battery, showed fully charged but would not start. Jump started it, drove it 10 miles ( on ok from Subaru salesman) the entire time it showed engine light on and emergency brake on ( the brake has been released) and the safety options were disabled. This morning the car would not start again. So far, the inly response from the salesman and service dept is that they have no idea what the problem could be. I was promised they would research the problem and call us, so far haven't heard from them.

22 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2020

When entering the vehicle and attempting to turn it on, the car would not start (November 20, 2020) the car required a jump to get the engine to start. Took it into the Subaru dealership who tested the battery and said the battery was fine & they charged the battery back up. (November 24, 2020). The following morning (November 25, 2020) the battery was dead again and had to jump the car. Over the following 36 hours anytime I drove somewhere, turned it off, it required a jump to start it again. Today (November 28, 2020) we took the car into the dealership again for analysis. They just put another oem battery back in the car and said they are not sure what the issue is.

23 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2020

We purchased our new 2020 Outback less than a month ago and have had the battery die 4 separate times already. I have had to jump start to revive. We've taken back to the dealership once and they were unable to diagnose any problem and nothing has been replaced yet.

24 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2020

New 2020 Subaru Outback battery has gone dead. Only 2300 miles on vehicle. Car was last driven on Sunday. Would not start on Tuesday evening. All electrical systems dead.

25 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2020

I bought a 2020 Subaru Outback xt in March. It was the last special order from auto nation before they shut down for covid. I drove it very little as we were basically home bound and then for shopping, golf and meetings. It is now November and I have under two thousand miles driven. The car went completely dead on September 17th and now again on November 10th. It died both times inside my garage and the front drivers door was the only thing to open. It did jump and work in between those dates. I am now reading about all the class action law suits and battery and electrical problems with the Outback. Subaru suggested that I needed to drive my car every day to keep this from happening. That is a ludicrous idea and something I have never had to do with any other car I have owned. I have a cvt 2. 4 engine with a turbo. Every time the battery dies all the loaded information like bluetooth, etc. Is also gone.

26 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2020

My car battery has died three consecutive days. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the battery the second day but battery died again overnight.

27 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2020

Battery failed within 1 month of new car purchase. Technician initially said it was due to rear dome light being left on (did not think this was the case). After repeatedly returning to the car in the mornings to find drained battery, had to purchase back up jumping device to ensure I'd be able to use vehicle daily. The car was brought back to the dealership 2 more times (within weeks of the initial problem) after needing to jump the car to start it. No electrical problem was found and battery was deemed to be "ok" per their test. Then one morning while starting the car, the dash lights started all to flash, an audible clicking noise and hatch motor could be heard trying to open and remained stuck in that mode until the battery died (car never started). Car towed to dealership for 3rd time in a month and battery was deemed "to be defective" from the factory and was replaced in this 2 month old car. No other electrical system problem was diagnosed to explain what repeatedly drained the battery.

28 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2020

Battery was replaced after 5,549 miles. Vehicle was parked for 4-5 days prior to 07/08/2020 and need to be jumped dealer could not find problem. Vehicle was again parked for 4-5 days prior to 10/09/2020 again the battery was dead & was unable to use fob to unlock car etc, jumped started contacted Subaru about problem.

29 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2020

I was driving to the dealer because I had difficulty starting the vehicle because of a low battery. I stopped at a stop light in a busy intersection, and the auto stop-start system shut off the engine. When the light changed to green, I pressed the accelerator and the engine did not restart. I was left with no power, in an unsafe situation, with cars and trucks having to swerve around me. I received roadside assistance to jump-start the vehicle and they drove it to the dealer. I have since learned that the battery had completely failed and will be replaced under warranty. We don't yet know if there are any other electrical issues that contributed to the battery failure.

30 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2020

I have less than 100 miles on my 2020 Subaru Outback and am having serious battery issues. I had driven the vehicle on a Friday and then went to start it on the following Monday and the battery was dead. I called out the Subaru starlink roadside assistance to get the battery jump-started, which they did and I let the car run for an additional ten or so minutes to help it to continue recharging. That evening I attempted to start the vehicle to park in the garage for the evening and the battery was dead, again. I need to get the battery restarted, again, but I am worried that this will continue happening (chronic). Do I take it 50 miles to the nearest dealership to replace the battery, only to have the replacement battery do the same thing? or do I replace the battery with another vendor?.

31 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2020

Battery died and did not respond to a jump. Had been driven maybe 2 or 3 days a week for short distances (20 miles rt) due to quarantine. Dealership has not been helpful in resolving the issue, despite the warranty on the battery.

32 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2020

After owning my 2020 Subaru Outback for just over a month with 1700 miles on it I've had to jump start my car now 6 times. I work 7 miles from home and drive a lot of short trips. I see Subaru has a electrical issue with the battery going dead with my name concern I work for a dealer that has the Subaru dealer and I will call them tomorrow to find out what they will do besides just replace my battery. Today I had to jump to drive to work. Jump to go out at lunch. Jump to leave work and when I got home I tried to restart and it didn't start again so I know what I will be doing in the morning.

33 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2020

Our 2020 Subaru Outback, with fewer than 800 miles, failed to start four times (6/1, 7/1, 7/10, & 7/13). During these incidents, interior and exterior lights flashed, the dashboard produced a clicking sound, the doors would not lock, and the tailgate became inoperative. Roadside assistance successfully jump-started the car each time and took it to two different dealers for diagnostic testing -- one in seattle and one in tacoma. Two roadside assistance service providers said their most frequent service calls requiring a jump-start were for "late model Subarus. One service technician said he received more than 100 such requests during the past three months. The tacoma dealer filed am urfca report with Subaru headquarters after the third incident. During the fourth incident, the battery failed while the vehicle was at the tacoma dealer, who replaced the battery on July 13, 2020. After recharging the battery, it took a few days of being parked before the battery failed. During this last incident, I intentionally left the vehicle with the dealer over a weekend, which was long enough for the recently charged battery to drain enough to fail to start the car. When I picked up the car, the service advisor told me these cars need to be driven at least 30 minutes per trip to sufficiently recharge the battery. We've owned five Subaru Outbacks, and have not received this advice before, nor did the dealer's sales representative call this to our attention when we purchased the 2020 Outback. Our lifestyle, coupled with the covid-19 virus, only requires one or two trips per month lasting more than 30 minutes. The car sits in the garage for two to three days without being started. We always lock the vehicle, turn off all lights, close the tailgate, and keep the key fob in the house, which is more than 500 feet from the detached garage.

34 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2020

5 months after purchasing this new vehicle, the battery has died three times. On two occasion it was sitting in my garage having been driven a short distance within the past 72 hrs. On one occasions it was dead 48 hrs after being jumped and drive. Today it was jumped again and driven to maita Subaru in sacramento, CA. After waiting for 15 minutes in the service driveway, waiting to be served, the car battery was found to be dead by service techs.

35 Battery Dead problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2020

After battery died 2 times this week and I had to jump start it, I took it to the dealer. They could not find anything wrong with car or battery. They charged the battery and told me to drive it more. The next day (today 7/11/2020) I made a short trip with it and it was fine. Several hours later I wanted to use the car again and it would not start until I jumped it. I will be contacting the dealer again on Monday.
