1 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 10/16/2020

My 2012 Subaru is having neurological problems - all dash lights come it happens randomly when driving over bridges or speed bumps. Started on 8/8/16 when car bogged down and died while driving down hwy. 360. I took it to my regular Subaru authorized repair place christian brothers on sublet rd. In arlington. The diagnosis was broken egr (exhaust gas recirculation) system. I happened again & I took it back. The final repair for that problem was replace mass flow sensor & major fuel induction service. The dash lights continued to come on but the car didn't bog down anymore. I took it to auto zone who ran the free diagnostic. So I took it back to christian brothers. They charged me $99 to run a more detailed diagnostic & still said I need to replace the catalytic converter. There was no test of the emissions other than the computer diagnostic. I waited a long time & the first code that came up was for catalytic converter. I suspected that they just disconnected the battery to reset the lights) the next time I took it hiley Subaru 4/5/17 (for 60 k inspection and oil change date). I asked them about the dash light problem. The dash lights were not on that day because I had learned to disconnect the battery but they mentioned that the 2012 Outback research indicated that repositioning the brake line might be the problem because of occurrences happening when crossing bridges. They did that, but the problem continued not every time I crossed the bridges, though. I took it to 5 star Subaru for the 90 k inspection 4/10/18 and mentioned the neurological problems. They insisted that the problem was the catalytic converter because of the computer diagnostic. Neither dealership would guarantee that replacing the catalytic converter will fix this problem. The problem persists but there is no real evidence of a problem with the emissions.

2 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 09/10/2020

I am unable to remove my vehicle key from the ignition after placing my 2014 Subaru Outback into the park position while the vehicle is stationary and I want to get out of it. This is also happening to my father's 2016 Subaru Outback. I don't want to leave the key in the ignition when it is parked on a street. I can't lock the vehicle with the key in the ignition because I wouldn't be able to get back into it unless I carried a second key. Please post this for other users. It seems a vehicle defect at least with a Subaru Outback as another friend also had this happen to her. It cost over $300 to get repaired. Thank you.

11 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2017 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 11/09/2019

On multiple occasions (when starting in driveway - stopped, while driving in parking lot - 5 mph, driving in town - 25 mph, while driving on highway - 60 mph) all advanced safety features are disabled including (but not limited to) eye sight (fab - forward auto brake, acc - adaptive cruise control, las - lane assist steering), rab - rear auto brake, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot detection, park brake, abs, traction control, power steering. Note that the failure of these systems does not cause a check engine condition and no error codes are logged. The dealer indicated that the first 4/5 failures left no codes. The next failure was delivered to dealer while running in a failed state. Dealer reported no codes found. Since the dealer did not report this to Subaru I will be reporting this problem to Subaru.

12 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 11/08/2019

An accelerator that became unresponsive while driving 65mph on 3 lane highway. This problem is prevalent with Subaru and you can read about many people who have the problem which is an extreme safety issue. If you go online and search for Subaru Outback code p2138/throttle position sensor you will find that the sensor has intermitent failures which cause the accelerator to become unresponsive. Even when people get this reset at a mechanic and supposedly fixed it will begin recurring again. Or sometimes the mechanic cannot make the car fail because the problem is a sensor and the problem is intermittent. Subaru must fix this problem!! this has happened to me 5 times now over the last year.

15 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2017 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 10/08/2019

Key gets stuck in the ignition. The car drives, turns off, and turns on like normal however, when the car is put into park, turned off, and the the key is attempted to be removed the key does not come out. It only comes out after sometimes an hour or more of putting the car into drive and then into park again. This happens every time I attempt to remove the key.

16 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

On any wet or snowy pavement car is ghost walking, like the rear end has marbles under it. Speed of 35 mph, straight driving, on wet pavement. Like a cat walking on its nails. Terrified. Had alignment, new tires, new rear struts, sway bar, transmission wiring harness. Disabled abs so at least I control braking.

18 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

Took it home from dealer and the electronic parking brake would not turn on. The brake light was also blinking. A couple days later, on the way to dealer, I stopped at a gas station and turned on the electric parking brake. It worked this time, but when I got in the car to drive, the electric parking brake wouldn't turn off. I was stuck. There was no way to move it. I was blocking the gas pump for about an hour waiting for a two truck. Tow truck driver had difficulty loading vehicle and taking off vehicle because the parking brake was on and it was an awd meaning none of the wheels can move.

19 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/19/2019

2013 Outback limited 3. 6r bought new and has 40k miles. On 3 occasions over the past 5 months, the vehicle can't catch 2nd gear and revs high and then a heavy jolt physically felt and a loud clunk. Have taken it to Subaru service 3 times and they cannot reproduce the problem. Even after flushing transmission fluid and relearning the transmission, and vehicle did it the same day driving home after picking the vehicle up from relearning the transmission. This is aggravating, stressful, and dangerous. Subaru needs to own up and address a known issue, and do a recall.

20 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

I bought my brand new 2019 Subaru Outback on may 19, 2019. On August 9, 2019 (82 days after buying the vehicle), I was driving about 30 mph down a side road with very little traffic. A tiny rock struck my windshield and immediately caused a crack. Within minutes the crack expanded to more than a foot long. Within days the crack expanded to be more than two feet long. I had the windshield replaced at the Subaru dealership by a third-party glass repair business (that carter Subaru of ballard uses for all glass replacement). After the part was installed, Subaru had to recalibrate the eyesight cameras to ensure the vehicle was safe to drive. The windshield replacement ($748. 58) and the recalibration ($345. 45) totaled $1,0494. 03. I thought I was just unlucky, having cracked the windshield and required repairs only 82 days after buying the car. Then today I read an article that said the windshields on 2017-2019 Outbacks may be defective. If this is the case, I'd like Subaru to pay for my windshield replacement, ent.

21 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

While driving the check engine, cruise control, abs, and vehicle dynamics control lights all came on. I later learned that a bad O2 sensor was the cause. It was raining and when I applied the brakes moderately firmly due to another car stopping hard in front of me, my car's brakes locked up and I slid on the wet pavement. Fortunately no accident occurred. After replacing the 02 sensor, the lights went off. Weeks later the same lights came on again due to what turned out to be a bad gas cap. When it was replaced, the lights went out. Now the other 02 sensor is intermittently going out, and it triggers the same lights. However I have been very surprised to learn that when these lights are on, those systems are disabled. It is astounding that safety is intentionally removed from a car due to a loose gas cap or bad 02 sensor.

22 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

Truck has shut off twice while driving once while slowing to make a turn and once while slowing to go over a speed bump I get a dash notice that the power steering is off put truck in neutral and restart . Also once while running in my driveway for about 3 minutes power steering shut off and stability system warning came on truck was still running had to shut truck off and restart. This loss of steering and vehicle shutting off while driving is dangerous.

23 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

When we were driving the 2011 Subaru Outback on the road on July 5,2019, the fuel gauge suddenly shifted from almost full to zero. The car stopped and we placed it in park. Subsequent attempts to start the car did not even ignite the engine, even when we added another gallon of gas and tried jump starting the car. There were no visible signs of a gas leak. Our insurance company towed our car to nearby coleman Subaru NJ, where the dealer has now assumed it was a computer issue and have asked to order another computer to fix it. This was an incredibly scary experience for us. There were five people in the car when we were driving and thankfully no one was hurt. If it happened on the high way, I don't know what would have happened. We are concerned this is a safety issue which can get people hurt.

24 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/18/2019

The vehicle was in motion going 45 mph. I slowed down to stop at a stop light and the abs light began to flash on and off. As I got closer to the stop light to completely stop the check engine light came on, the abs light came on, the airbag light came on, the brake light came on, the cruise control light was on and flashing and the steering wheel completely locked up and the engine was off. I turned the car back on and everything was fine. The abs light, check engine light, cruise control light, air bag light and brake light are still on. I am afraid to drive this vehicle for fear that it will turn off again. I am uncertain of what could be causing this but it seems to be an electrical system problem. This problem also happened to me as I was slowing down to turn off of the highway. I am glad there was no one behind me because my car completely died after I turned off the highway with the same lights and same thing happening as stated above.

25 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2018 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

My 2018 Subaru Outback has brake fade stopped in traffic, brake loss (petal goes to floor) after being parked or driving, and brake loss in x-mode ( x mode feature controls braking/speed on steep slippery roads. Subaru dealer made 4 unsuccessful repair attempts. Subaru of America flew in a field engineer, tied up my car 3 weeks but was unsuccessful also. Mathew in a recorded message soa's service rep. Confirmed the brake issues & claimed soa was testing all brake components. On 01/07/2020 my 2018 Subaru ,still under new car warrant, failed to pass a NY state motor vehicle inspection. I can not legally drive my vehicle on NY roads. Soa offered me $ 2,500. 00 to go away. I have made videos of my brake loss it occurs so frequently. Nhtsa has several brake failure complaints with roll over, injuries & 5 car pile ups. I believe soa refuses to help me in order to circumvent a recall. The 2017 Outback had a brake fade issue that soa did a secret repair according to online info. Please share this information.

26 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2015 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 02/18/2019

I've had my 2015 Outback for 3 years now (2020 now) I have had to replace the battery every year. The first year I believed it was time for a new battery, within 6 months my car died while I was driving into a parking lot. The entire electrical system shut down and I had to manually move it. My mechanic took apart my engine and discovered loose seals that had allowed many parts to rust over including broken brackets and a torque converter. Warranty won't cover any rust but did cover the $84 broken seal. I spent close to $3,000 on repairs and a new battery then. I was initially quoted from the dealership $6k. It has been 11 months and I left my car alone for 3 days and the battery is completely dead once again.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2018 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 12/22/2018

I found a crack in the upper right hand corner of my windshield (Subaru Outback 2018). The vehicle was stationary at the time. There was no cause for the crack (hail storm, rock/gravel hitting car). At this time, the crack has spread and the Subaru eyesight program (sensor program) does not work.

30 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2018 Subaru Outback

31 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2016 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

Problem: 360 cca batteries installed in new cars are not enough and they cause problems. My first indication was a year ago when I went to the store, was in there 10-15 minutes, and when I came out the car did not start. A friend came 2 hours later to jump it but tried it first and it started right up. Second problem was on a trip to DC in November '18. Nor'easter came through and we got stuck on the interstate in the mountains for a few hours. Car was stopped, not running. Went to get dinner then to car to go on again. Would not start. Were stranded for 3 more hours, as the weather and mountain drive made it impossible to get help. We were eventually able to find someone to jump it. Over next few months, odd things happened like the radio not working sporatically, slow starts, and the key not coming out of ignition occasionally. Took it to the dealer, they recommend a $853 new shift mechanism, but in the discussion he happened to mention the 360cca battery not being enough for the car. My suspicions tell me to get a new battery and see how things go. Got battery- 640cca, a week ago and no problems at all now. It's not right that the dealers know about the battery not being enough, and when you bring the car in they try to get you to pay for large dollar fix-it's and avoid talking about the battery issue. I don't know how many years and makes of Subarus have these, but prob at least a few years. They need to recall and put in better battery, at least a $500cca. I have read car guru blog that makes it obvious that at least hundreds of people have stories of being stranded. For a long time or in a bad place. My battery cost me $173 and they should refund that to me.
