1 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/29/2020

My daughter was driving with my granddaughter and was hit from the rear, totaling my 2019 Subaru Outback. Both my daughter and granddaughter reported hitting the dashboard or the windshield. None of the airbags deployed and the driver's headrest ended up on the driver's lap. At the time of the accident, the front auto was about to start forward or had started forward when the signal light had just turned green. . The police report is attached, with a letter from the meridian, idaho police department. My concerns are 1) should the airbags have deployed and 2) should the driver's headrest have detached from the seat? if the driver's contact info is needed, please let me know.

2 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

2019 Subaru Outback 2. 5i limited. Purchased January '19. Car was located by dealer at other dealership and delivered late at night without owners having ability to test drive. Within one week owners noticed seat issue and contacted dealer immediately. Driver seat slope issue: driver seat base slopes from left down to right approx. 3/4"-1". Problem noticed in first month after delivery and Subaru was notified. Area dealers, Subaru corporate and factory field engineer (ffe) refuse to properly confront/ diagnose/ repair the issue. Owner showed service technicians and manager at dealer using a 1 ft' bubble level that the issue is evident. All service personnel have admitted to owner that they see the problem but refuse to acknowledge those facts in their service invoice statements. Seat slope issue creates an unsafe driving environment as the driver has to push off of center console while left hand cornering and long distance driving is not permissible as it is uncomfortable unless driver uses a towel or pillow to level the seat base. Normal operation involves drive resting elbo firmly into center console to stay upright. Owners are concerned due to driver ergonomics and ability of safety restrains/airbags to perform as designed if in any type of collision if the driver is not centered or positioned properly in the car as designed and tested for impacts. Subaru corp. Sr. Rep. Says Subaru has no published specifications or measurements for Subaru seats for ffe to compare seat construction/install of my vehicle to. The ffe performed corporate/customer inspection using a cell phone in a leather cell phone wallet and a bubble level application as his reference for denial of claim. I have pictures of personal inspection with levels and measurements available upon request.

4 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2013 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/06/2013

Seat head rest is too far forward and upper seat contours backward, putting pressure on neck and affecting spine. Seat needs added support (with a small upper back support and probably a lumbar support) to take pressure off the neck and get the head free from being pushed. Neck should be straight. Over time this will damage the spine if the headrest isn't made adjustable or support added to the seat. I'm adding support to the seat from aftermarket cushioning to get the pressure off my head/neck. Would like an adjustable headrest as was included in the 2013 Subaru impreza to get the headrest off the head (and the pressure off the neck, to get my neck and back straight). --- I am worried about receiving spam so didn't want to fill out some of the extra info asked for.

5 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2006 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 01/23/2006

2006 Subaru Outback. Hi, problem (1) head rest is so big that between the seat belt strap and the head rest there is no view to see vehicles about to pass in the left hand lane. Can result in side swiping when changing lanes. All the safety features in the world won't help if the end result of the feature is to cause injury or fatality. Safety problem (2) the speedometer. In order to make the instrument panel look "cute" you have destroy the ability to see what speed the vehicle is moving. No need to go to 140 mph to start with. The jumps between markings make it just about impossible to quickly determine the speeds 50, 60, and 70 mph and forget trying for 55,65,75. What do you intend to do about these two very serious safety problems on my 2006 Subaru Outback?????? I am "dead" serious about this and will search all possibilities for a remedy.

6 Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 1999 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/20/2001

I was quite hurt (to the degree of having to go on ssd) in a rear end collision in a 1998 Subaru legacy wagon. In trying to recover the original head rest of this car I learned it is no longer available and can only be replaced with a much safer model. In doing a recent crash analysis with this new head rest I realized the significant differences and how much safer the new head rest is. I learned on your car safety web site of the national caution on the whole seat of this model seats and head rest. I have had numerous orthopedic (left arm, all/whole back, right leg, both knees, posture) and brain injury problems from my car accident. I recently learned (3/06), that Subaru started unofficially replacing the seat and head rest of this model legacy 1998 thru 1999 whenever possible. Meaning whenever these models requested new parts, there is an unofficial recall in that it is impossible to get the original part only the safer new parts. I keep thinking about how easy a recall for approximately a 2 and a half years model car is (I have experienced a gm recall of a part that went very smoothly). There is a great cost to society and myself of there not being an official recall. Please respond to this email with a letter or I will send another letter by signed receipt email. Sincerely, marcie ellis.
