1 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2017

The transmission range sensor has gone out on the vehicle. I have spoken to many other owners Suzuki vehicles and they to are having to replace transmission range sensors. Dealer service centers acknowledge that this part breaks often and they keep extra in stock. This issue will begin with causing vehicles to shift rough and end with vehicles not being able to shift out of or into park. The airbag and seat belt light will not go off. We have been told that it is the cushion sensor and will cost $1500 to replace. Again, after speaking with other Suzuki car owners, they too have had to deal with this issue. Suzuki issued a recall for this issue for some vehicles but not vehicles that have been impacted have been recalled and owners are being charged to replace this defective part. Suzuki has been made aware of these issues by other owners and have covered repair costs for a few, but have chosen not to issue a recall for all affected vehicles.

2 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2016

Transmission regulation sensor - car jumping out of gear while driving. Dangerous very dangerous.

3 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2016

The transmission range sensor on Suzuki Forenzas and other models has been shoddy at best. My car currently has 65000 miles on it and I have replaced the trs 3 times getting ready to be a 4th. This is not a sensor that should need replaced regularly. I have had the vehicle slip out of gear at speed due to this and can never accelerate when I need to. Im afraid that if I need to accelerate to avoid a collision I wont be able to. This is a safety hazard and NHTSA needs to investigate. They have more then enough complaints to see this is an issue and they need to act before someone gets killed.

4 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2016

I have already replaced the transmission range sensor once in October of 2014 and it is acting up again now. When I am driving the car jerks when it is shifting gears and on a couple occasions it has just switched into neutral for no reason while the car is still in motion. The most recent time was on my home from work on 8/22/16. I had to pull over and stop and start my car a few times to reset the problem. The part should not have to be replaced every couple years. This is a safety hazard and this needs to be fixed by Suzuki.

5 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2014

Starting in January 2014 car had approximately 75,000 miles on it and began lurching into gear from stopped. When put into reverse, jumps into gear. When put into drive after backing out of driveway lurches forward starting in 3rd gear and continues during driving. Husband diagnosed after much online research and a few months later, even taking code into dealership for repair. Dealer insisted they couldn't replicate and cleared code without making note of problem. My husband argued that we wouldn't be picking car up until the problem was replicated and taken care of. After insisting they couldn't replicate, we drove back to dealership and made service manager ride with husband until car "performed" malfunction, literally a half of a block from dealership. It was obvious they were avoiding problem and hadn't driven car at all! code was noted as 0700, just as my husband had reported initially. Transmission sensor was replaced and after diagnostics were finally properly preformed, airbag light was also reset (has continued to come on almost entire time we've owned the car-were told our daughters long legs were kicking wires underneath drivers' side seat) and also made aware voltage is too high on drivers side but nothing was done to fix either. Dealership offered no solution. Spent $191. 65 to fix transmission sensor. Originally charging $260+ but husband demanded reduction in diagnostic price due to the fact we had to drive back into town to dealership to duplicate problem for incompetent/unwilling service department . Very unsatisfied and will be looking into options after seeing transmission range sensor seems to be ongoing epidemic for many 2008 Suzuki Forenza owners. Have also had ongoing problems with seat airbag sensor not working on front passenger's side since 2009.

6 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

The contact owns 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the vehicle became unresponsive while attempting to accelrate from a traffic stop. The contact heard a loud bang as the vehicle began to roll away in reverse. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated the transmission range sensor would need to replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.

7 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while he shifted gears he heard a noise and the gear shifter could not be released from second or third gear. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised that the transmission sensor was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 70,884.

8 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

For a few weeks the car had been running a bit off--not really changing gears right-but nothing to raise serious alarm-clunked one time a week ago when slowing down. Yesterday the engine light came on the car made a loud clunk and would not switch into gear. After turning the car off and on the engine light went of and the car was able to be drive. Took it into the local auto parts store--they ran a trouble code which came back po700 and po705. We looked this up and it referred to the transmission range sensor---the auto part fellow said get it in now to be fixed. $200 later the car is now running acceptable again. The car mechanic was able to get the part in a couple hours because the warehouse said this part has an extremely high demand for it so they stock it. We had a long distance trip planned next week and this could have been disastrous to have completely lost the ability to drive or something else.

9 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the transmission independently shifted into neutral. The engine was turned off and restarted, however the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic numerous times. The transmission range sensor, head gasket and transmission were replaced at different times. In addition, the catalytic converter and coil pack were replaced. The failure continued after the repairs were performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

10 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a complete stop, the vehicle exhibited a delayed response. On a separate occasion the gear lever was shifted into drive and the transmission independently shifted into reverse. The vehicle was taken to a transmission center where the transmission range sensor was replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000. Updated 04/30/lj.

11 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

Transmission range sensor went bad, had it replaced multiple times since the first incident yet the issue continues. Manufacture offers no solutions. Aftermarket part are just as faulty.

12 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2012

About once a week my car has an issue when shifting. When I shift into reverse I get a clunk. Then when I drive the car seems to be stuck in a high gear. The check engine light will go on. If I turn the car off and leave it off for 5 to 10 minutes it will be fine when I start it again. The engine light codes are p0700 and p0705. Upon doing research on this subject I found that this is the transmission range sensor that is failing. Suzuki will not fix this under the power train warranty which seems very wrong since this is part of the transmission. I have found a large number of people with the same problem. This is obviously a defective part that Suzuki is doing nothing about.

13 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2012

Coming home late night around 2ish, waiting at a redlight my car does a sudden jerk, the check engine light comes on and im in drive (foot on brake pedal) but in the dash the gear starts flashing and indicating I was in neutral but I wasn't. Light turns green I go to press down on the acceleration and my car seemed like it barely wanted to drive, as if it needed a push. I didn't drive my car for the whole weekend because I was paranoid. Took my car in that Monday on October 22nd 2012 (they had it for 8days), got my car back assuming the problem was fixed, but here we are a month later, November 29th 2012 and my car it doing the same. I was driving maybe about 30pmh and I was coming to a stop at a light and my car did a soft jerk and the engine light came on. Went to turn into a parking lot once the light turned green and it seem as though my car didn't want to accelerate. So I turned off the car, waited for 10mins or so, turned it back on and the light was gone and my car was okay. I took my car in to my job, they informed me that it was the same problem, which is the gear sensor/ transmission range sensor. Im taking my car in again on Monday Dec 3rd to be fixed. I have had my car almost 4 years now, I still have a warranty as well and I just hit the 50,000mile mark. Im scared to drive it because I do not want anything to happen to me or other people driving on the road. So I pray the problem is fixed on Monday. I have read many other reviews about the same problem and it blows my mind that so many people have the same problem and nothing has been done. I love my car so it really is a bummer that I am having this type of problem.

14 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2012

I have replaced the transmission range sensor in my 2008 Suzuki Forenza 3 times in the last year. Once at 95,000 miles, another at 101,000 miles, and now again at 109,000. I have attempted to contact Suzuki to no avail. The second time the sensor went out, I was merging on the highway and was nearly hit by a semi truck and trailer because I could not accelerate properly. The 3rd incident was yesterday 10/16/2013, I was pulling out of a parking lot onto a main road, when the sensor decided to slip, it moved the transmission into a high gear, causing me to inch out of where I was at in the middle of the road. Luckily, I was not hit. I would like to see Suzuki acknowledge the fact they need to do something about this issue. It appears to be a very common problem that multiple people are having online.

15 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2012

While sitting at a stop sign, I decided I was a little to far into the road. I shifted into reverse and noticed it shifted really hard. I put it into drive and pulled out onto the road - again it shifted hard. When trying to speed up, the car wouldn't shift out of 1st gear, the check engine light came on and I couldn't speed up. I've been told it is a bad transmission range sensor.

16 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

One day, when I put my car in reverse, it "clunked" into gear, the gear display was scrambled, and the check engine light came on. I shut my car off and started it again, thinking it was a fluke. The check engine light remained on and it also "clunked" into drive. When I went to accelerate, the rpm's were 5-10 higher than normal and it took a little longer to "get up and go. " sometimes, my car will initially run fine until a few minutes into the drive, when it falls into neutral while driving, then goes back to drive, the check engine light comes on again, and the problems resurface. I took it to advanced auto parts and the machine said transmission control system but they said that could mean anything and would be fine to drive. After taken off the machine, the check engine light went off, only to come on again the next time I drove it. My brother (who has mechanical experience) cleaned the transmission sensor and filter, hoping it would help, but it didn't. As I go to a small town college three hours away from home and make a 3 minute drive to and from classes everyday, I let it be for the semester, insisting that it would eventually go away. Well, it's christmas and it never went away; each day I drive my car it presents me with the same problems. My brother took my car back to advanced auto parts and the machine read the same issues as before, plus a possible wire short. They didn't suggest any fixes so he checked for shorts in the wires and found none. It appears it must be the transmission range sensor. After reading up on the trs, it seems that this is an ongoing problem that many owners are experiencing as early as 30k miles on cars some bought new. I feel as though this issue has also caused other problems with my car (reduced gas mileage/battery failure) and is cause for a factory recall, as its appearance is widespread and the effects are numerous.

17 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

I am thinking our transmission range sensor went out on our 2008 Suzuki Forenza with over 70,000 miles. Car check engine light was on for a few days, then turned off about 3 days ago, stopped at drug store, when I turned on the car, the check engine light was back on, put car in reverse and clunk, while the display where the r for reverse would have been was scrambled, car still reversed. Clunked into drive, and wouldn't switch out of 1st gear.

18 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2012

After backing out of my driveway, I put my car into drive and felt a sudden jolt and the check engine light came on. I could not accelerate and barely reached 20 mph on a busy road. The check engine light remained on until I arrived at the dealership. When I turned my car off, the check engine light obviously went off, however it did not come back on when the mechanic turned the car on, neither did the car jolt when changing gears. I was notified that my "transmission range sensor" had internal failure and would need to be replaced. Although I have a 100,000 mile warranty on power train, this apparently is not covered because it is not an internal transmission problem. My issue is that it is a problem dealing with the transmission however it is not covered under warranty?.

19 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Multiple times the transmission thuds when shifting from park to reverse. Dash display does not show "r" but has an "x" through it. Turn car off and on about three times to try to get it to work properly. Eventually works ok for a while. Has happened multiple times. Car is sluggish to drive after this happens and engine revs too high. Check engine light comes on but goes off in a few days. Transmission range sensor is bad.

20 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

When shifting from park to reverse, the transmision thumps and the check engine light comes on. Car will only drive sluggishly. Goes away eventually, but has happened 3 times. Looking on internet, it appears to be transmission range sensor. Also, the brake shift interlock failed, and could not get the car out of park. Used the over-ride hole to get car out of park.

21 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the transmission sensor switch failed. The failure caused the vehicle to jerk violently when shifted into reverse and back into drive. In addition, the vehicle was non-responsive to acceleration attempts. The vehicle was repaired. The current mileage was 60,000 and the failure mileage was not available.

22 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate over 20 mph and the check engine light would illuminate sporadically. A local mechanic diagnosed that the transmission range sensor was defective. The range sensor was replaced and the vehicle began to work normally. The dealer was contacted, but the contact was unable to have the dealer repair the failure due to distance. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 47,000 and the current mileage was 48,170.

23 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate and a warning light illuminated on the instrument panel displaying the drive symbol with a line across. This symbol indicated no drive. The contact stopped the vehicle and was able to restart it without failure. The warning light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic. The technician stated that the transmission range sensor would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

24 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2011

While driving, car suddenly lost power, unable to accelerate or change gears on it's own, and when I shift from drive to park, it felt like my car got hit, a very hard "bang" and same when shifting from park to reverse or back to drive. Ck engine light appeared. After stopping and turning car off for aprx. 10 minutes then turning back on, light was still on, but now car was accelerating and changing gears. Got the car to the Suzuki 112 dealership in medford, NY and they said codes po700 & po705 were present. They diagnosed a failed automatic transmission range sensor / switch assy. The service advisor told me this is a very common problem, and he replaces 4-6 of these per month between the Forenza and reno model Suzuki vehicles. Service advisor stated this is not covered under the power train warranty since this is just a component that is mounted to the transmission, not actually inside the transmission. $216. 63 later, the dealership mechanic removed and replaced the part. Note: this is the 2nd time I had this problem, but 1st time they couldn't diagnose as check engine light shut itself off before they got to check it out.

25 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

The transmission range sensor went out the first time last year. Started to show an "x" over the gear when you shifted, it would kick, and it would not allow you to over 35mph even with your foot on the gas. We replaced the sensor in oct of 2011. It is now April 2012 and the sensor has gone out again. The air bag sensor light is constantly on. The dealership states that wire keeps getting shorted because of the location under the seat.

26 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2011

Transmission range sensor failed causing vehicle to jump gear and rearend another vehicle causing 1800 dollars in damage to personal vehicle and unknown amount to vehicle that was hit. This sensor had previously been replaced by dealer 3 times prior to vehicle reaching 36,000 miles. After alot of research myself there seems to be alot of problems with this. This vehicle should be recalled for this transmission sensor before somebody get seriously hurt!.

27 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. While the vehicle was parked, the contact attempted to shift the gear selector into the drive position and an unknown warning indicator illuminated. The engine was turned and restarted. There were several attempts before the gear shifted into drive. The vehicle was able to proceed properly without the illumination of the warning indicator. In addition, when driving the transmission would slip out of gear. The failure occurred intermittently. The dealer was notified of the failure and they advised that the problem could be related to the transmission range sensor. The manufacturer service warranty expired. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. The failure mileage was 41,000. The VIN was unavailable.

28 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2010

I noticed my car having difficulty accelerating and it would occasionally feel the engine jump while driving. The check engine light was on. I was going down the interstate when the engine shut itself off. Luckily it turned itself back on and I was able to safely accelerate to speed. The shop said that it was the transmission range sensor and the transmission control sensor. A year ago the car was displaying funny symbols and would not start occasionally. Again the same sensors had to be replaced. A third time the car check engine light came on and the car was again having difficulty accelerating. The acceleration issue and the light are intermittent, it has now again begun doing the engine "jump" it is scary being at a light and not being able to move. It is very scary stopping to turn left into my apartment complex and not knowing if my car will respond when I have a gap in traffic to turn. Took it to a shop today to find out that the codes from the engine check light are again the transmission range sensor and the transmission control sensor. The car has under 65k and I have had these issues three times. I am thankful that it has not caused a major accident.
