"takata recall" gear shift keeps slipping and maybe the cause of needing a new transmission. Had to turn car off in middle of traffic because gear slipped. When car was in drive a symbol popped up with a d with a line though it! took it to o'reilly and put it on machine about 3weeks after the first time it happened and it read some codes about gear and transmission and an employee there said gear slipping could have been the cause of all the other problems!.

When putting the car in gear in either reverse or drive, there is a loud thunk and jumping feeling. There will also be an 'x' on the instrument panel next to the 'd' for drive on the shift selector. I have researched what the problem could be and it is the the range transmission sensor, it appears after researching this is a very chronic problem in the Suzuki Forenza.

At speed on interstate highway, the car suddenly fell out of gear, and lost speed rapidly. Dash transmission display showed scrambled gear in place of d. Car continues to experience similar incidents and does not properly change gears; occasionally displays scrambled letter in place of appropriate display (r,n,d, 3, etc. ).
Some wires inside the signal switch were melting a plastic piece inside steering wheel. It began to smoke and the lights are not working properly.

I bought this car used from ramsey motors and didnt do any homework on the past owners or accidents. Should of checked into that. Cause I was sold a vehical that had the wiring rigged into the fuze box. This was not noticable to the eye . Right before I had the accident the headlights flickered thankfully I was alone and only traveling at 30 mph. I was crossing a narrow bridge in jasper arkansas and something caused that wire to loose contact with where it was riggd to. I registered my vehical to get more info on the situation and had to bring it home by trailer. The mechanic was informative to what could of caused the headlights to malfunction. I soon found myself with alot of info I wish id a known before I purched the car now I am due for court with several citations due to unsafe vehical . Sucks.
I was stopped at a red light and started to drive the car when the light turned green but my car did not want to go forward, my car pulled. I had to step on the accelerator with more pressure for it to go forward. I finally got to a safe area and turned the car off. I left it off for about three minutes then proceeded to turn it on and drove off, I notice my check engine light was on at that point, and drove to my mothers home nearby where my brother who is an auto tech scanned my car and the transmission range sensor code came up. Help is there a recall on this?.
When I was driving on the raod my airbag from behind on the driver seat busted and my head hit the sternig wheel and I stoped in the middle of the raod , not knowing what was going on and my I seen amoke coming from the sode of my driver seat, and I seen my air bag had busted on it own.
I keep having to stick a key in my shift lock just to get the car out of park and has been occuring for a while now. The part you put the seat belt into when you put it on keeps sticking down so you can't wear a seat belt sometimes and I have had to replace my transmission range sensor about every 3 months since I have had the car which is ridiculous.
I was driving on the interstate and just passed a semi truck going about 65 mph and then my car suddenly switched gears into neutral on it's own. I was able to pull over to the side of the road safely and restart the car a couple times for it to reset and go back to normal. I was on my way to the dealership when this incident occurred. There had been an issue with the park/neutral switch previously in my car but this was the first time that the gear switched while I was driving and not when I first started the car and put it into gear. That had happened frequently when I started the car and put it in drive but it said it was in neutral but then after a couple restarts it would reset and work correctly for a little while before it happened again. Once I replaced that switch I haven't been having any issues with it again so far. Now I'm just dealing with the power locks sticking and locking on their own (the guy at the dealership mentioned that problem three years ago when I bought the car but only now am I having that issue) and also the driver's seat belt not staying fastened when I first click it. It finally does after jiggling it a little bit.
Before taking my kids to school, I put my car in reverse to back out of my parking space, as soon as I switched it from reverse to drive, my car would not move. I noticed that on the digital screen that the "d" had a slash mark as if to say "no driving", and the check engine light came on. I put the car in park and turned it off. I restarted it to see if maybe it was a glitch in the system. This time, I went from park to drive and the slash mark was still on drive, however I was able to drive the car very slowly. . It wouldn't go over 5mph. I reversed and parked back into my parking space. Once this happened, I decided to do some research. Turns out, it is the transmission range sensor, and a lot of owners are having the same issue. The next day, I decided to attempt to drive it again. . Because we all know these cars have a mind of their own and seem to decide to go bad one day and act completely normal the next! I started the car and the check engine light was on, but seemed to drive fine. I drove it to have it tested at the auto store. The test confirmed that it was the transmission range sensor. I then stopped at a store on my way home. I was in the store less than 5 minutes, came out to my car, and it would not start! I thought the battery had ironically died. My brother in law came to jump it, but had no success. I turn the key all the way over, and the service lights come on, but it wont even try to turn over. . Its almost as if the car has nothing under the hood. . . Crazy that it wont even attempt to start. My brother in law says it may be the starter, but something tells me this all has something to do with the transmission range sensor. Please put this part on recall! I've seen enough complaints from owners that I cant believe there hasn't been one yet. Enough is enough! recall the transmission range sensor! this is dangerous!!!!.
When I came to a stop at a stop light the engine made a loud thunking noise and jerked. The display showed the letter "d" with a slash through it. When the light changed to green my car would not accelerate normally. I was finally able to get the car to move by revving the engine up to 4000 rpm and it slowly crept forward. The mechanic advised the transmission range sensor was bad and needed to be replaced. Additionally the paint has chipped off on all the doors and 2 of the inside door handles have broken off.
Put my car in r (reverse) on a level driveway and it made a clunking sound as if it were being forced. The dash gave a signal instead of an r for reverse, a square with a line through it. As I put it into d (drive) it dragged to accelerate. The check engine lamp came on and the local mechanic said his computer read transmission range sensor. He said the trs and the catalytic converter need to be changed. The car needs a couple of motor mounts. This will easily cost me over 800. 00 including labor. I just finished having the transmission coils and wires replaced ($350. 00) having just purchased this vehicle (used) from a private party; my concerns are high regarding safety and costs for repairs. What of a recall concerning the transmission range sensor? please help!!.
I've bouth my car back in September 2007 and in October 2008 I took my car to the Suzuki dealership in wheaton maryland because the gear when put on reverse the car would jump and the dashboard would not go r for reverse it would blink both r and d and then when put on drive would drive on first gear. I was told that it was an electrical/sensor problem and they fix it. Started happening again late may 2014 every so often and by late June it was happening all the time.
My car had a fire on 5/29/2014. I drove in low speed 30 mph in tempe city, but I smelled little smoke coming out. I parked the car. The fire started from some cables at the left side column under steering wheel in front of driver's seat. There was no collision. Some wires, parts and the plastic cover under the steering wheel have been burnt down. The car was towed to bill luke Suzuki in tempe, az at the same date 5/29/2014. The dealer bill luke asked me to report this issue to Suzuki. I called Suzuki customer service in CA on 5/30/2014. Already 2 weeks past, I have not received a response from Suzuki. Suzuki has not taken any action. Now the car is still in bill luke in tempe. Would you please help me? I appreciate you very much if you can help.
After being parked for a while the car jerks when I shift to reverse as well as makes some kind of clunking sound. Afterward, when I shift to drive, there is a marked delay prior to acceleration. This also happens whenever I come to a complete stop at traffic lights, stop signs etc. I'm wondering if this is the transmission sensor again which I had to replace in 2011 @ 30k miles because my car would stall while in operation. This transmission sensor issue is way too common in these cars for Suzuki to not have issued any kind of statement or provided any restitution yet. I'm dreading having to pay another $200+ for repairs. This is a dangerous defect and they shouldn't wait like gm to deal with it. These vehicles should be recalled.
When my Suzuki Forenza 2008 hit around 60,000 miles I started having sporadic transmission issues, including not being able to reverse properly, mechanical sounds when shifting gears, not able to accelerate when on drive, it was very stiff and difficult to accelerate, my brother has the same vehicle and had this exact same issue and it turned out it was the transmission range sensor. I took it to the dealer and it was the exact problem, I had to replace my transmission range sensor and I currently have an internal failure with my transmission and I do not plan on investing any more money towards this vehicle as I have read that many drivers have gone this route and absolutely regretted it because of the continuing problems with the transmission and other issues.
I started the car. Let it idle for a minute to bring the rpm down. I tried to shift it to reverse but it would not go. It had an engine warning light on. I shifted back to park and turned the car off. I let it set for a minute then restarted it. When I shifted again, it clunked and would barely move. I shifted to drive and it clunked and would barely move. I am a single 55 year old woman. I work 2 jobs and live 8 miles out of town. I can't afford to have this car down. I bought it because of the low mileage. It only has 39000 miles.
Vehicle slips out of drive when accelerating which causes it to lose power during highway driving. Seems to jump to neutral. Loss of speed and at the same time the engine will rev and rpm's will increase. This happens mostly on highway, sometimes on streets. This never happens when accelerating from a stop. This happened for weeks without a check engine light indicator on. Check engine light will only occur when reversing. Mechanic said the issue (p0700 and p0705) indicates a transmission sensor issue which is not covered under warranty. There are hundreds of Suzuki message forums and other complaints on this issue on the internet. I contacted Suzuki american headquarters and they claim to have no knowledge of this issue. This is a heavily hazardous issue that needs to be addressed before someone, hopefully not myself, dies.
The transmission feels like it is slipping it will not shift gears and will not go above 20mph without the car bucking and kicking like it is fixing to shut off. It only does this when the car is not hot. Changed the range sensor and that was the problem.
Cpsc: x1481026a. 2007 Suzuki Forenza. Consumer stated the car caught on fire and it was caused by a mechanical failure.
I recently lost my car which was a '07 Suzuki Forenza to what has been described as a mechanical car fire brought on by some sort of mechanical failure. I believe this was a culmination of a series of failures over time despite whatever action I took to avoid it. Initially I encountered intense flickering with my headlamps. Headlights would stay on even after removing the key from the ignition. I believe that the consistence of this occurrence, has caused my vehicle's battery to fail. I ultimately had to have the battery replaced. I would also have a toxic smell come through the ventilation system from time to time. It smelled like something burning and melting. However, I was never able to determine what it was. This was going on intermitently for quite sometime. Then eventually my car was lost to the mechanical car failure fire. I was fortunate to get out of the vehicle with only minor injuries such as burns and smoke inhalation. Incident date: 12/28/2013 incident location: lake worth florida palm beach sheriffs office / lake worth police case # 13161702.
Was driving and transmission range sensor went bad and car jumped out of gear no warning. Traffic behind almost collided. My 4 year old was in back seat. Very scary. Called Suzuki and they said this is an extremely common problem considering my make, model, mileage. So why am I, a single disabled mother, responsible for getting a well known, unsafe manufacturer issue repaired. . . . . I can't afford this and from what I was told most people with similar issue had this problem not only once but few months after getting repair done. This is extremely unsafe! car shifting and stalling while at full speed! me and my son could have been seriously hurt! planning to call Suzuki customer relations to see if they can fix issue because it is not fair that I have to come up with way to repair such a dangerous problem so many Suzuki owners have experienced.
Transmission range sensor is horrible this will be the second time time to change this. First time was at 45000.
The sensor gets damaged, enabling the car to activate reverse and accelerates when placed on drive making hard pumping motor noise.
I was driving my Suzuki Forenza when it went from "drive" to basically neutral. I was driving on the interstate and was almost hit from behind because my car stalled. This has happened multiple times since and each time I've been lucky enough not to be hit. This is a seriously dangerous issue because it happens mid drive.
The car will not shift correctly. Displays a scrambled message on the dash information console. Dangerous almost caused me to be struck and killed by a 18 wheeler. Something must be done by this. Is a serious problem.
While driving I heard a loud "thunk" sound and then my car went basically into neutral. Had a car been right behind me I would have been rear ended. The check engine light went on and the transmission range sensor has to be replaced. The same exact thing happened in September of 2012 and I had it replaced then, only 9 short months ago. When speaking with the parts and service folks at david norman Suzuki I was informed that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. Had I been on the highway I could have been killed. Definitly a safety problem that warrants a recall.
Owner states that the check engine light comes on and loses power. . Car will go from drive to a different gear. This happened on numerous occasions (when at red lights. . Going uphill ( which is dangerous if there is a vehicle behind you) and regular driving. Took vehicle to transmission shop 6 times and after spending over 750. 00 on range sensor and computer board problems. . . Still having the same issues with check engine light. . Loss of power and gear slips.
I was one the highway my car rip went crazy I tried to give the car gas and on my dash there was a line thru the drive symbol that was tellin me the car could not drive I had just fixed my transmission 3,4 gear paided to dealer 1,400 3 months later the range sensor goes bad again for 4th time. This car has so many problem and hardly any dealers that can fix the problem and it's always the same problems please help.
Driving down residential street vehicle stalled and began to idle high while in the "d" position. Applied brakes and tried to put it in to "p" position but dash read reverse. Turned ignition off and gears shifted as designed. 4 incidents followed this one have not had it repaired. I was putting gas in with the engine off one I got back into the vehicle cranked it and immediately the scrambled symbol appeared I cut the engine back off and tried it again and the scrambled symbol was still visible I shifted down through several gears with clunking noises and heavy jerking until I was able to find drive 3, I was able to move the vehicle at a slow pace to a parking space until I had it towed to my home. Sent it to a mechanic had throttle repaired put the very same day the very same problem occurred while my children and I were on the interstate headed home from their school. Was able to shift to drive 3 and get it off of the roadway. Turned off ignition and cranked it up again the vehicle ran normally took it to an autozone so that the check engine code could be read and it came back as p0700 and p0705 have not had the funds to have it looked at by Suzuki dealership. With this as an reoccurring with other vehicles as well as mines something has to be done before someone is greatly injured or killed just stating the obvious. Love the vehicle but afraid to drive it even if the necessary repairs are made I dont want to feel as if im driving my and my kids death mobile.
I have a 2007 Suzuki Forenza, shortly after I got it I noticed it would cut off when I turned the a/c on. If I leave the a/c on it jerks and struggles to reach the posted speed limit. Aside from that issue while driving the car doesn't change gears well and rpm shoots way up and the car drags. This is very dangerous and has caused me to almost be involved in multiple accidents. I do not feel safe with my children nor my self driving this car. Something needs to be done about this defect before someone gets hurt. When this occurred I was attempting to turn and car wouldn't accelerate at that point I panicked and realized I had the pedal all the way down and it still would not go. Then all of a sudden it made a big clunk and jerk and slowly pulled off. I was on a busy intersection between two highways. This is very dangerous and does need immediate attention.
I have a 2007 Suzuki Forenza it had about 119000 miles on it at the time of first incident. It wouldn't hardly move forward and or go up hills and has struggled to do so since. The car rolls back on hills when you try to move forward. When driving the car barely wants to move. This needs to be recalled very dangerous.
When shifting out of park dashboard does not recognize gear and loses great amount of power. When driving gears do not shift correctly. Makes a clunking noise. Sometimes when I push the gas pedal very lightly the car jumps forward and other times it doesn't want to move at all.
I had defective plastic door knobs that broke and replaced with the same type door knob by the dealer and charged me labor. Replaced strut mounts within the last 9 months I have replaced: transmission, water pump, the valve cover gasket 4 times, the valve cover, the radiator, the timing belt, the ac compressor, front axles, wheel bearings, lower intake manifold hose, and it is still leaking antifreeze. The car seem to be very hot and the key is very very hot in the ignition. I also need to replace the fuel assembly. . . . . . . . I definitely would like to be included in a class action lawsuit or I will do my own. This is not fair to the consumer to pay all this money into keeping this car repaired. I've invested more into this car than what it is worth. Please advise.
