Two problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 2002 Suzuki XL7. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2002 Suzuki Xl7. While driving approximately 55 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle abnormally accelerated. The brakes were engaged and the vehicle slowed down with a loud grinding noise. The manufacturer was notified of the problem and they advised the vehicle be taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was unable to duplicate problem. The approximate failure mileage was unavailable.
First occasion approx 1/04 - backing up out of a parking spot and car accelerated uncontrollably on its own. I put both feet on the brake and still could not stop vehicle-had to put car in park to stop. If someone was in back of me I would have caused a crash. Simultaneous with this incident, I received a recall from Suzuki for this particular problem and took car in for recall service. Second occasion, 3/25/04 - waiting in line to go into car wash when car did the same thing-accelerated uncontrollably. Luckily no one was in front of me, if they had been I would have caused a crash. Again being unable to stop the car with both feet on the brake I had to put the car into park to stop it. I took the vehicle to the dealer where I bought it new and they have determined there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Note - this was not reported to police, there was no fire or crash - I couldn't get those items to come up correctly.
