The check engine light is on in the vehicle and when checked by the dealer, the cams and timing chain are not in timing. The cams have shifted and the timing chain may be stretch. Seems to be a common failure to all of these vehicles and there should be a recall for this situation. Also due to the check engine light the remote start is'nt working either.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Xl7. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel upon starting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop and the contact was informed that the timing chain needed to be repaired. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the timing chain was stretched and the failure had been present since the purchase of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000.
Check engine light came on and dealer said that it was a defective camshaft. Work on engine consisted of changing camshaft and rocker arms. Dealer said that he has seen this problem on a few other 2007 Suzuki Xl7s. The problem is rust on the interior of the engine caused by the manner in which they are shipped across canada. Apparently, a valve cover is left off so a bar code can be viewed while in transport. This may be a serious problem if the vehicle suddenly loses power and turns off due to rust.
