36 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2024 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 03/25/2024

The rear tail light on the driver side of the vehicle is filling with water. Additionally, the brake light is occasionally not working, presenting a potentially serious safety issue. The vehicle is brand new. Tesla has a history of this issue with previous generations of this vehicle, but the problem persists in the new model. I have been waiting for a new tail light to come in for two weeks. A quick internet search reveals other drivers with the same problem. Tesla is doing nothing to expedite the parts needed for the repair, but they sure continue to sell new cars. They should not be selling any cars until they figure out how to successfully seal the light and keep standing water out of the unit.

Failure Date: 03/21/2024

The turn signal stalk does not differentiate between a partial (lane change) press or a full turn press. The signal will remain on until the stalk is moved in the opposite turn direction. This sometimes results in the opposite turn signal activating. This entire process is intermittent while driving. This happens mainly on the highway where an intermittent (half press) of the stalk is performed to switch lanes. When switching lands I have no idea whether it'll work as designed or fail to register a half press or full press of the stalk.

38 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2024 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 03/12/2024

Tesla officially confirmed as I brought my car in a third time that the repeated turn signal failure I was/am experiencing is now a known software issue. They looked at the timestamps and video I shared and saw that I had indeed applied pressure to the turn signal buttons to no avail/effect. Out of the three times I took the car in and shared timestamps for when this issue occurred this is the only time they identified the issue in the logs, which leads me to believe they never even looked at the logs the previous two times I had brought the car in and they failed to id the issue or a fix. They have been unable to reproduce in person, as the issue occurs at random while the vehicle is in motion. I brought it in a third time after multiple instances in one day of the turn signal not working and putting me in highly precarious situations on the highway. There is still no fix currently and the technicians even acknowledged/admitted it is a serious safety issue, yet they are returning the car to me unfixed. This feels like an extremely dangerous problem to not address urgently via a software fix. There is no message or warning displayed related to the issue.

39 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 02/20/2024

Fsd beta 11. 4. 9 - a concern documented in NHTSA complaint id 11555478 and subsequently remedied with later releases has returned in the current fsd beta build 2023. 44. 30. 14. When engaging fsd ,the display screen enters an auto brightness mode and requires driver intervention to adjust brightness back to the driver's desired setting, as described by the following. When fsd is engaged, display auto brightness is activated and the screen adjusts up in brightness from the previous setting, which is often too high. The driver's attention is then taken away from road and traffic ahead while the screen is reset to the driver's preferred setting. In the current build the following anomalies also occur. When fsd is engaged and the display is set to auto brightness, if the driver opens the display menu and adjusts brightness down, that driver setting is held even though the display brightness is still shown to be in auto mode. However, if after activating fsd and the auto brightness is engaged, and the brightness is then adjusted down using the left scroll wheel, the display remains in auto mode and the screen is automatically adjusted back up to the auto set point. This is true when the driver's preferred setting is lower than the auto set point, but not true if the driver's preferred setting is higher than the auto set point. When the initial driver setting is higher than the auto set point, the screen remains at the driver's preferred setting. While these anomalies are not safety concerns, per se, they do require that the driver's attention is diverted to resetting the desired display brightness. If, as if often the case, fsd is disengaged and then reengaged, the process described above is repeated. In the course of a 30 minute drive this can require that the driver adjust screen brightness multiple times, sometimes repeating the adjustment process within minutes after prior adjustment.

40 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 02/13/2024

The is water in my right front fog lamp and I don't know how it got in there, but Tesla says they can't get water out of it and can't reseal it, but is willing to let me pay $504 to replace a light. . . This is yet another billionaire abusive practice by elon musk to generate cash flow and revenue for his failing company. Telsa also asked for $15,000 for a new battery, which the "software" said it started reducing the range just after the 120,000 mile battery warranty was up. Just like apple does with reducing iphone battery performance for so called "safety" reasons to make people pony up to the latest model. Which Tesla has been emailing me and texting me to try to get me to buy a new Tesla lol. This is clearly an abusive "sales tactic". If they actually care about helping customers, they would figure out how to fix each issue. Clear out the water and seal the headlight. Figure out which battery cells need replacing and replace them. Simple and cheap solutions. Not "customer pay astronomical prices" for every damn issue Tesla forces upon people. Including "customer pay tows" after "Tesla's software" decides to randomly shut the car down in the middle of the road, rather than Tesla taking responsibility for their software malfunctioning preventing the driver from reaching their destination. These are clearly misguided attempts by an awol ceo pissed off about his $55b pay package, trying to claw back money from customers to reward himself to pay for twitter/x. Make "elies" elon "moron" musk and Tesla do the right thing by customers and repair these issues, rather than rape and pilage poor customers' cashflow.

41 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 11/16/2023

Activating fsd beta version 2023. 27. 7 switches the display brightness to auto and to a brightness that is higher then the level set by the driver. In a darkened vehicle at night the auto setting was too bright and a distraction to safe driving at night. I then spent 2-3 seconds with my attention away from the road ahead as I reset the brightness on the display screen to the comfortable level. After disengaging fsd beta the display remains at the brightness level set buy the driver. The next time fsd beta is activated the display brightness is once again set to auto and the distracting process of taking the display out of auto and adjusting the brightness to a level comfortable to the driver must be repeated. Activating fsd beta puts the high beams into auto and allows the system to use the high beams when the vision system requires it. This is excellent and works well. The display brightness is a driver preference and adjusting the display brightness is not needed for the vision system to operate effectively and should remain set at the driver's preferred setting so as to no be too bright and so the driver does not need to repeatedly adjust the brightness each time fsd beta is activated.

42 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 11/16/2023

Fsd beta firmware version 2023. 27. 7. -- when operating with fsd beta in control of the vehicle, the turn signal is activated and the appropriate left or right side blind spot video is brought upon the driver's display automatically. This works perfectly for city street lane changes and turns at intersections or driveways, etc. When operating on a controlled access highway the systems works in the same manner, activating the turn signal and displaying the blind spot video on the driver's display when changing lanes and exiting the highway. However, the turn signal is not activated and the blind spot video is not displayed on the driver's instrumentation when first entering a controlled access highway. This is the one exception where the driver is required to activate the turn signal while fsd beta is in control, and seems like an oversight or 'bug'. However, it might be by design, in which case the intent that the driver is required to activate the signal indicating the vehicle's merge has not, to my knowledge, been communicated to the driver as the one exception to the otherwise automatic operation of the turn signal and blind spot video display while the vehicle is under fsd beta's control.

43 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Tesla Model 3

44 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 04/05/2023

In 2020 my driver side headlight assembly stopped working then in 2023 my passenger side headlight assembly stopped working. This includes the day time running light as well as headlight and turn signal in each assembly. No warning was displayed. This can cause confusion for other drivers and pedestrians through the inability to indicate my location or intention of travel. The first time this happened, the service center explained it was a component issue and the assembly was replaced by them. No warnings were shown from the vehicle.

45 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 02/24/2023

I was driving to work on the morning of February 24th 2023 and it was raining. After some time, and while on the freeway, I noticed that my low beam headlamps icon (green telltale) on the center display was not showing. As I always drive with lights in auto, and since it was raining (windshield wipers were activated automatically), I expected the headlights to turn on automatically. I worried that I would not be seen well by other drivers, and had to navigate to the controls on the center display and switch the headlights from auto to on manually. The headlights then turned on (I assume, since I couldn't see indications on whether they were on or off on the outside, but the green icon did appear after I pressed the "on" button). Given that it was raining outside, relatively dark, and the windshield wipers were on, I would expect the headlights to be activated while in the auto mode. I have never had issues with this before, and wonder if this came from a software update. The switch to go from auto to manual lights isn't very easy to reach from the driver seat so I would expect the auto mode to work well so this situation doesn't have to happen.

46 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 02/17/2023

Many states like florida have a law that headlights need to be on when it is raining, my Tesla has automatic wipers that come on when it senses rain, when this happens, it should also turn on headlights for safety reasons but it does not, they need to be turned on manually, the car does also have automatic headlights, but the automatic headlights on the car only work when it gets dark in the evening. This is a simple programming change that Tesla could do, my repeated requests to Tesla to address this in the app has done nothing, that’s why I’m requesting you force Tesla to do this. Makes sense right?.

47 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 01/12/2023

Vehicle's turn signal is not hardware based, but instead relies on the software registering signal use. The turn signal can be "fully" pressed, and "partially" pressed, and the behavior is supposed to full press: blinks until you manually disengage 1/2 press: blinks 3 times, then automatically disengages. Anything "between" a full press and a half-press, ie beyond the level which is supposed to trigger a 3-time blink, but not "bottoming out" the signal, regularly fails to trigger the signal at all. This leads to scenarios in which the driver "thinks" they have signaled, and creates unsafe situations for surrounding vehicles.

48 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 12/29/2022

Recall 21v-00d was registered Dec 2021, notice said waiting for parts. It's been over 12 months and no parts yet? also, the phone number Tesla has listed on the recall notice and their recall info on your website goes to a self-service site that states to use your Tesla app to schedule a repair so there is no way of contacting the company directly to find out about the status of the recall.

49 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 12/11/2022

Poor led headlight/headlight seal caused severe condensation (water dripping) inside headlight housing, which led to the headlight and turn signal to not function. No warning/notification received from the car. The car is 3 years old, past 50,000-mile warranty. Headlight inspected by Tesla service center and had to be replaced at owner’s expense due to out of warranty. Condition led to poor visibility and danger/risk to other drivers/pedestrians on the road especially at night. Attempting to obtain old headlight from service center, but have pictures on hand.

50 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 11/27/2022

The high beams frequently don’t work. It has to be off auto. They only work sometimes I have to pull the left stalk forward to have them on. They should over ride the system if I push the stalk forward so I can see the road. I have allot of deer in my area and I’m afraid to drive often because the system isn’t working right. They want to charge me $1,363 to look at it.

51 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 11/09/2022

The Tesla uses “auto high beam” when in autopilot. The pros of this can allow drivers to utilize the light so the cameras can detect anything to avoid any possible wrecks, but it does not have an option to be turned off. Along with other people online, my brights have flashed at people on the interstate and highways or haven’t turned off at all. This is irritating and limits the way I am comfortable with using autopilot. Please inform Tesla to make the auto high beam feature optional.

52 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 10/31/2022

This cocksucker blasts oncoming traffic with disco highbeams every single fucking time there's a lonely oncoming car on the highway. Someone's gonna shoot my ass for blasting them repeatedly with highbeams. Because autosteer is connected to auto highbeams, I can't turn it off unless I turn autosteer off and drive like a 1995 peasant.

53 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 09/14/2022

Tesla software update 2022. 24. 6 is an update that forces the vehicle to use Tesla vision for autopilot adaptive cruise control. The driver does not have the option to disable auto high beam features and the software is not accurate enough to prevent flashing and high beaming of other drivers. This hazard has occurred at least 5 times within two days of receiving the update. A hazard is created in two different ways: - blinding approaching vehicles, including turning on high beams when approaching vehicle is in direct area of glare - flashing high beams when following other vehicles at a close distance, distracting and blinding the lead vehicle while this problem has not been verified by a dealer, auto high beams while using autopilot cannot be disabled and many other drivers are reporting similar issues in online forums. There is no warning or way to adjust the feature. This will likely lead to a collision because approaching drivers cannot see through glare.

54 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 08/30/2022

The passenger-side daytime-running headlight (aka, "signature light" or "accent headlight") failed at approximately 66,000 miles and four years. This makes the daytime-running headlight ineffective. I have since noticed many Tesla Model 3's with the same issue. To fix this problem requires replacement of the entire headlight assembly. This was a very expensive repair (~$1200) and will likely be ignored by owners of Teslas no longer covered under warranty. This creates a common safety issue with these automobiles.

55 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 07/15/2022

The Tesla computer and especially the user interface is unsafe. ?more accurate to say I hate the unfriendly user interface. I am surprised NHTSA oked this computer interface. It needs a google quality voice activation feature. The current one is deaf to most words normally used to drive a car. E. G. , to turn the lights on while driving on a road where “lights on” is required. I must hit a button to see all controls. Then I must hit the “lights” button. Then I must hit the “lights on”. All this while having trouble reading the small print on the screen. The reading is difficult. All this while taking my eyes off the road to even see the screen. This is just one of very many examples. The actual use of the computer is very often more user unfriendly and unsafe than the “lights” button. Dangerous, dangerous. I almost killed another driver when my car was new because I was working the computer and I ran a read light. Fortunately my car stopped because I hit the breaks or because the car was, in fact, Smart??????? I am surprised NHTSA oked this computer interface. The computer is Smart but using the interface is dangerous. I want to bring this issue up to NHTSA, not to issue a recall, but to add on a user interface as good as google? what is the chance that they will re-investigate a safety decision they have already made? sincerely; william zagotta.

56 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 06/21/2022

Car brakes while using adaptive speed control. In one incident the car was traveling at 71 miles per hour and braked to 25 mph. In other situations the car braked by at least 5 mph, on some situations this happened while speed control was engaged and I was traveling at 50 mph or less. In all these situations, there was not another vehicle in front of me that posed an immediate threat of collision. The adaptive self dimming headlights do not work properly while driving at night. Lights do not always dim for approaching vehicles or when approaching another vehicle from behind. On some occasions the bright lights engage when approaching other vehicles or dim when not approaching another vehicle. Other times the light repeatedly switch from bright to dim when following other vehicles. I reported these issues to Tesla. The response was that their engineers are aware of the problenms and it is related to a firmware update and that will be coming. I worry about being struck from behind when the brake suddenly engages. I also worry that the headlight situation can cause a crash by blinding drivers.

57 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 05/19/2022

Https://youtube. Com/channel/ucnkrwnr_lakd4nelwyabuga my youtube channel has 13 videos about Tesla safety concerns. They are the only videos on my channel. The minutes long clips show what happens when the mainframe screen goes black, dies out or powers down while driving. Listed from memory are the following concerns associated with the Tesla ‘black screen of death’: 1. No energy/distance shown 2. Glove box is inaccessible 3. Front trunk ‘frunk’ cannot be opened 4. Proof of signalling is gone 5. Proof of low vs high beam is gone 6. Changing of wiper speed is gone 7. Access to heating/air-con is gone 8. Back up camera is obsolete 9. Cameras used when signalling are missing 10. Speedometer is not visible 11. Odometer is missing (have never found it on screen when running anyways!) 12 air pressure indication is gone 13 gps is obsolete from memory that is all I have to add. Imagine everything that was/is available to the driver in every other cars dashboard and then take those parts away sporadically for minutes at a time and you’ll have an understanding of how precarious driving my Tesla can be. As an uber driver I had the opportunity to speak with a corporate agent who was my passenger. She said Tesla is aware of this issue. Having spoken with a Tesla rep at a Tesla garage I was given the same advice found on internet forums: “find a place to park, park, press the steering volume & station finder buttons for 10 seconds until display starts up” this very rarely works, and is impossible, even dangerous in many situations. I’ve learned to drive with this continually faltering equipment, and I know every Tesla driver I’ve spoken with must do the same to varying degrees. While all Tesla drivers experience this, none are as repetitive as mine and none seem as proactive to inform government agency of this. Next week, may 26, I have an appt with a Tesla garage that will look into this when I bring my car in. Please view my videos.

58 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 05/14/2022

Vehicle center screen freezing multiple times per drive. Speedometer, turn signals, autopilot, battery percentage, backup camera, blind spot monitor, parking sensors, hvac and garage door opener all repeatedly inoperative. Audio chimes also freeze up and previously-engaged “navigate on autopilot” functions continue to operate without any visual or auditory alerts.

59 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 04/15/2022

Daylight running lights are not operating, a warning in the instrument cluster of not operating lights is not give. So the driver is not aware of the issue! repair is not possible the entire light unit needs to be replaced ! this is a come issue with the manufacture Tesla as I found a lot of complains on the internet with this specific issues.

60 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 03/22/2022

The Model 3 no longer turns on the headlights automatically when the windshield wipers are on. It requires the operator to search through menus to turn the lights on manually. This is required even if the headlights are in automatic mode. Voice command doesn't turn the headlights on either. I believe it is dangerous to be diverting eyes to a menu screen to turn the headlights on while driving in the rain. In addition, failure to turn on the headlights in my state is a moving violation.

61 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 03/21/2022

The passenger side headlight has stopped functioning on repeated occasions, both the high and low beams stop functioning simultaneously each time. I have been on long distance road trips now each time that this has occurred. Tesla service techs insist that it's software related in both instances and provide a software update. This alleviates the problem temporarily. I am currently insisting that they replace the unit completely, as these are not standard headlights that a consumer is able to purchase and replace at a parts retailer or any auto service center. Today, I got another service update, no replacement yet. The inherent danger in this practice is the amount of days and weeks required to schedule a service appointment, while operating the vehicle with one headlight and a complete inability to source an alternative resolution.

62 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

Automatic headlights fail to illuminate when wipers are active. This has been reported to Tesla in 3/2022.

63 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 01/21/2022

My car is less than two months new. The headlight assembly, which includes blinker and running light, has been defective and not working for over a month. No blinker, no headlight, no running light. This is a safety issue and can be issued a traffic citation, yet Tesla has not repaired/replaced this part.

64 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 01/07/2022

Less than a month after I purchased my car, the whole diver's side headlight assembly stopped functioning, no blinker, no headlight, no running light. It's been over a month and Tesla keeps moving my service appointment to a later date. Tesla states it's a part issue, yet you continue to build cars with headlights ignoring current customers. I still have no working headlight assembly.

65 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 12/25/2021

Tesla issues an update to software that forces drivers to go through a jumble of menus to do important tasks like turning on defrosters and windshield wipers. These used to be one touch items on the home screen, but now require drivers to take their eyes off the road for a dangerous amount of time.

66 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 12/21/2021

The steering system failed. I'm not sure about the availability for inspection. My safety was put at risk when my car collided with another car. I had just pulled out of my driveway and turned to go down the street a short distance from a stop sign where I would turn left. From a video taken by one of the car's cameras, the car went to the left side of the street and started toward the intersection where the car hit another vehicle. I have driven to the intersection numerous times. There is no way that I would have pulled toward the left side of the street. I believe that something in the steering system malfunctioned. This put me and other drivers on the road at risk. I don't know if the the problem has reproduced. There was a policeman at the site, but he would not inspect the vehicle for a malfunction. My insurance company must have inspected the car as they called today to inform me that the car is totaled. The failure happened so quickly, that I had no warning.

67 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 12/04/2021

Front right headlight on a brand new car no longer functions, safety was put at risk by the fact that it is illegal to drive on 1 working light in the dark and rain; and this happened thankfully before leaving home on a dark morning so it was detectable and actionable. Problem was confirmed by remote diagnostic from dealer. No warnings or messages before failure which was confirmed by Tesla representative on the phone. They have not inspected the component and will not return calls / have not responded to service scheduling for 3 days. There is no service possible when they have a monopoly on their supply chain and will not schedule service. My car is unsafe to drive and is basically a lemon at this point until they fix it.

68 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 09/24/2021

In a heavy florida rain this afternoon about 3:30pm edt I noticed my automatic headlight with windshield wiper function was inop. The lights normally go on with windshield wipers in the past. Upon investigation Tesla has removed this function at least on Model 3 and y cars for some regulatory reason. It is unsafe to have to go to the touch screen to turn on headlights in this situation. Owners are complaining on forums but I think more drastic action is required.

69 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 08/22/2021

1. In three occasions while using fsd I approached red lights but the vehicle did not initiate a stop. I took control to do so. 2. Yesterday the car seemed to reboot. It was about 9pm, quite dark at 70 or 80mph on i80 in a construction area. The headlights stayed on and the car continued driving but the dash went black as it seemed to fail, and then seemed to reboot with the "t" coming back up before the full dash came up again.

70 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2021 Tesla Model 3

Failure Date: 07/16/2021

Periodically one headlight starts flashing and my front turn signal won’t work. This typically happens in the middle of driving so I’m at risk of getting home safely.
