36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2021

Emmc failed prior to recall and was replaced by 3rd party vendor. Recall reimbursement was denied. Emailed Tesla multiple times without response.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2021

I parked my Model S and went to grab something from the trunk, closing my driver's door and leaving my car key inside of the car. I was then locked out of my vehicle, unable to open the car through my phone app or by touching the handles to gain entry. This same thing happened a few months before, too, though I called Tesla support and they were able to remotely unlock my car. In this particular instance, however, I called Tesla support and they were unable to communicate with my car and unlock the doors remotely. I eventually gained entry into my car by having the door manually opened by someone from a tow company. It was recommended by Tesla support that I take my car in for service. When I did, the service team said if I didn't replace my mcu, the car would effectively become inoperable. Per my Tesla invoice, the service team "inspected and were unable to communicate with vehicle. Vehicle has not been communicating with mothership due to internal failure of media control unit. Recommend replacing mcu. Replaced mcu. " when I called about the emmc recall this past January, I was told my vehicle did not qualify. Today I received an email about the reimbursement option for those who had their units replaced/repaired; upon filling out the form Tesla provided, I was told I did not qualify for the reimbursement. It feels as though Tesla is making this overly complicated and finding loopholes. I also reported that my screen shut off while I was driving my Model S on two instances within the past year, after having the mcu replaced. The service team told me that they couldn't find what I was referring to in my car's log, adding that I would need to give them the exact dates and timeframe of each instance. In both cases I was driving my car on the freeway and was scared that the car would shut off; I didn't think to write the date and time down for later follow up.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2021

Car randomly freezes. Many navigation functions such as turn signals will stop working. Nearly caused a collision. Replaced mcu per Tesla's advice. Issues continue. The last written statement from Tesla is "known characteristic of current firmware. " unwilling to address or fix issues at any cost.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2021

Door handles constantly break. I am changing the 3rd door handle in less than 2 years of ownership. When the door handle break, the car door does not open and you can't access the vehicle (you'd be forced to get inside the vehicle using another door). I think if they have so many breaking (a lot of Tesla car forums indicate that most owners replaced 2-3 door handles each), this should have been a recall from the factory.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2021

Tesla Model S has an auto presenting door. Early model has a frequent failure and teala has updated it with 3rd generation. If it is fail it cannot open from outside since it is stuck and it might be critical in accident.

The screen routinely fails and goes black. The main concern is the climate can't be changed and there is no backup camera.

42 Electrical System problem

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2020

The mcu will go to a black screen while driving and is unresponsive. I am not able to use the window defroster and have to pull over until the unit powers back up. This can take some time and continues to take longer each time this occurs. I have reported the issue to Tesla and was told that everything was fine.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2020

Touch screen will blank, show unusual characters, not respond, exhibit pixillation, stop rear vision camera from displaying, not play radio or music properly and/or intermittantly, and present navigation information improperly. Media computer was replaced last year, but new computer still has those same and other problems. Happens with vehicle in motion, city and highway, randomly. Evidence indicates this may be related to a memory storage hardware chip inside the media computer, being of too little total capacity. Or related to internet signal from manufacture being unreliable, week, intermittent, or defective.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2020

I believe a complete failure of the embedded multimediacard. No touch screen use, no camera, no audible sounds for turn signal or warnings, no control over lights or door locks. Earlier in the year, I noticed non responsive request to start up the car, undrivable for 45 seconds, now it is up to a few minutes upon entering the car, which is a safety issue. Especially when combined with not being able to lock the doors with the lcd. I believe this is the screen issue that Tesla is offering repairs now, but I have tried to make an appointment, and the earliest one is two weeks out, which I have made.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2020

Date noted below was the most recent of multiple occurrences. This has happened now at least 6 times beginning in October 2020. While driving, the 17" display in the center of the dash suddenly goes blank. At this point, access to the backup (rear-facing) camera is unavailable.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2020

The main large control panel has become unresponsive while the car is in motion at least 4 times in the last 2-3 weeks. All 4 times the car was in motion, 3 times on a highway. The main screen turned off and restarted 3 times and 1 time the car had to be pulled to the side and restarted but it took a while to do that. The car was drivable but other features were struck, like seat warmers and air conditioning.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2020

An increase in mcu rogue reboots/crashes a significant slowing down of the mcu in operation, e. G. Slow boot times or slow map rendering glitches and issues with bluetooth connectivity. Blinker not blinking.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2020

The mcu in this car went black several occasion while driving. I lost all controls of lightings and wiper. On several occasions. . . . The car shut down and I have to coast to the aide of the higjway.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2020

My center screen that controls the vehicle functions such as air conditioning, all vehicle settings, map, cruise control, vehicle collision sensors, lder, etc are not functioning because the mcu unit failed. The emmc chip inside mcu failed when the vehicle was downloading a update sent from Tesla over the air. The car doesnt want to turn on half the time and vehicle driveability and functions are very limited. Tesla hasnt responded to my complaints and my issue. The car was in my driveway and downloading when the screen qent black and nevwr turned back on. I took it to a Tesla 3rd party shop and they advised me to keep calling Tesla to notify them of faulty mcu and emmc unit. The danger is that the vehicle collision and safety features are disabled and its dngerous driving on roads.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2020

Infotainment system has stopped working, along with important safety features like lighting, blinkers, cruise control, climate.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2020

Mcu shuts down while going down the road. You lose defrost and other major factors that effect safety. Cannot name a particular day but Tesla has this information. I text the tech on 09/03/2020 he told me it is a common problem. If it happens in winter, I will wreck if I cannot see.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2020

Mcu 1 failing on car. Car screens turn off randomly, startup is prolonged, loses driver safety features and overall slow/lag making it hard to access mandatory us road safety features such as lights. Tesla refuses to fix.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2020

Mcu unit wont turn on. This unit controls hvac / safety features such as child locks / sunroof / and most importantly turn signals. The car turns on but the screen stays off. I think this has to do with its memory, I had a smiliar issue about 2 months ago where an update caused the car to reboot repeatedly until someone at Tesla installed a remote update and rebooted the car.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2020

Center 11 inch screen going fuzzy, constantly needs to reboot computer to get normal screen. . . Occurring 2-3 times a day, can occur stationary or in motion.

57 Electrical System problem

Center screen (mcu) went out , lose all safety features because the screen is all black.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2020

Touch screen fails to operate. Directional signal lights are inoperable. Car is unsafe to drive. Problem was suspected 2 months ago and part has been back ordered since then.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

Mcu failure, when backing up the rear camera does not turn on, center screen console has gone black and will not reboot despite multiple attempts to do so. Seems like a mcu failure. Car is essentially very hard to drive - hard to back up - rear camera is not functioning, has become a safety problem. Has been intermittent over last few weeks, now permanent.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

The contact owns a 2015 Tesla Model S. The contact stated the media control unit was not operating properly and the screen was inoperable. The contact called the local dealer Tesla located at 5544 okeechobee blvd, west palm beach, FL 33417, 561-232-8984, who sent a technician to his residence to diagnose the vehicle. The contact was informed that the computer needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The manufacturer had been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 51,000.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

When I turned on my car in the garage the touch screen wouldn't light up and the car was dead. I called roadside assistance and the man had me go through a series of resets which finally got the car going enough so I could drive it very carefully to the Tesla service center which is 15 miles away. The car could be operated but there was no screen and the directional signals wouldn't work. They kept the car five days trying to restore the touchscreen and were finally successful. They said they did not replace parts and the cost was $186. 11 the screen has gone dark a few times since but I have been able to get it back with rebooting and waiting. Other complaints I have read about don't mention the fact that the directional signals don't work so I felt I should let you know that additional information.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2020

While stationary, middle touch panel (mcu) on my 2015 Tesla Model S 85 (~60,000 miles) started freezing up between vehicle controls (lower left 'car' icon) and garbling screen when trying to switch between them, a couple of days ago. I noticed first symptoms about a week ago when percent charged on the middle touch panel didn't update together with the instrument panel while supercharging. Now I have to scroll-wheel-reset my car twice a day: before driving to work (it's frozen in the morning) and again before driving home from work (frozen again in the afternoon). An additional symptom manifested itself today: my rearview camera started getting a nasty 'gray veil' over it so you can't see anything; it seems to keep appearing and disappearing.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2020

The Tesla's large screen quit working. These are controls that power off the vehicle, turn the defrosters off and on along with the climate control. Control steering modes. Control back up camera, control lights. From the reading I have done it is called the mcu. It partially went out while I was driving, it came back on and then it died while I was working and I found out about it when I started the car after work.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2020

The main computer screen (mcu), on my 2015 Tesla Model S went completely black while driving in the city. I am not able to read or change any controls on the car or communicate with the computer program.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

The touchscreen for my 2016 Tesla Model S has become dead and is completely blank. I searched online and found that it's a fairly common problem with 'older' Tesla Model S and it costs upwards of $2000 to replace the mcu. I also read online that NHTSA has apparently started an investigation already. Please count me in for any support documents etc needed. I shouldn't have to pay for such a expensive repair for an electronic part suddenly dying on me in less than 5 years after purchasing the vehicle. Please help!!!.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

Mcu (media control unit) blank. Wont reboot. Indicators dont work anymore.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

After we returned from our summer home, I tried to drive the Tesla. The main screen did not light up but I figured that a normal reset would fix the problem. As I drove, I attempted a reset but the screen remained black. I also learned that the turn signals would not work including the cruise control, windsheild wipers and headlight high beams. Worried about other problems, I returned home and have not driven the car since. Over the summer there had been several updates to the cars firmware and I was looking forward to the improvements. Prior to that. We were driving with other members of the family, all with the Tesla app on their phones. The car went into "limp home" mode on I-95 and would not respond to numerous attempts to remedy the problem. The seat heaters would turn on and off, the doors would unlock and the entire car seemed to have a mind of it's own. I asked everyone to turn off their phones and the problem disappeared. Tesla service said they'd never heard of such a thing.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2020

Turn signals all failed, rear camera failed, touchscreen interface failed.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2020

The driver's display panel which display the speed and other important information about the state of the vehicle is bubbling and making it difficult to read the current speed. This is a common problem with this model according to the owners forum. Even though this is a common safety problem, telsa has not issued a recall for this problem.
