Five problems related to computer failure have been reported for the 2016 Tesla Model S. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Computer Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

Mcu1 computer failed. 2016 Model S 85d. Rear camera,ac,blinkers, and many other things don't work. Car is dangerous to drive. Happened over night and I have no other choice to drive it.

2 Computer Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2020

The main screen in my Tesla often experiences long start times, shuts off unexpectedly while driving on highway or surface street, limiting ability to control headlights, rear view camera, or operate defrosters and turn signals. One instance, I was unable to switch on headlights while driving. Another time I was unable to activate my left turn signal while driving, instead the car activated a portion of the left headlight. I frequently need to follow a reboot process on vehicle start in order to drive. The delay in or need to reboot prior to vehicle startup has been occurring more frequently in recent months. I've also experienced garbled display graphics while driving, requiring the need to reboot (one or more times) to operate vehicle function. The vehicle is still under warranty and service center informed me that the mcu computer will fail in approx. 1-1. 5 years, but could not be replaced now.

3 Computer Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2020

2016 Model S touchscreen went black. Required replacement. Tesla service blamed it on the computer failing.

4 Computer Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2020

The center control screen went blank and could not be rebooted. It was determined by Tesla that the mcu computer failed and had to be replaced. My four year warranty had expired the previous month so the cost to replace was $1,680. 25. Though the car was drivable the turn indicators would not work. You should know that this is a very common failure on all Teslas that are four years old. This car only had 47,770 miles on it at failure. It failed at startup.

5 Computer Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2020

The main computer panel failed, giving no access to controls, camera, heat and air, auto braking. After the 3rd time of failure the main computer panel stopped working completely. Leaving it unsafe to drive. The vehicle in the first 2 instances failed while driving and a hard reset of the computer fixed the problem. The 3rd time it stopped working upon startup where I had a 100 mile drive home and did have to drive without the use of the main computer screen. I took the vehicle to Tesla and had to have the entire module replaced for over $2000. 00.
