1 Ball Joint problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

For the second time in 1 year both my front suspension have broken off while backing up. Last year was my passenger side tire just this week my drivers sidetire just falling off from ball joints. Tesla continues emphazing iimpacted with something and they would not fix the broken joint, they have referred me to a body shop that I disagree due to the fact that it does not have any body nor structural damage just the poor suspension and ball joints that are istalled in Teslas. Someday someone is going to get hurt while driving at avg speed from these faulty parts. Thank you,.

The contact owns a 2015 Tesla Model S. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 to 30 mph, the vehicle drove over pothole and the passenger's side front and rear tires sustained blowouts. Additionally, the passenger's side front rim was fractured, rear suspension was fractured, and the rear ball joint was also fractured. The vehicle was towed to Tesla (8105 big lake road, clarkston, mi, 48346, (248) 241-9321) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the front driver's and front passenger's side fore-link assembly, the passenger's side upper rear suspension link assembly, and passenger's side rear wheel liner needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 89,000.

9 Ball Joint problem of the 2017 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 03/04/2018

I have already made several reports to NHTSA about Tesla suspension failures. A Tesla owner in england has just posted on the Tesla motors club forum that the bolts snapped on his front suspension and the car fell to the ground. The thread has now been deleted from the forum but I have recovered it from google cache. Snapshots of the thread and images of the broken bolts are attached. It is a certainty that there is a bad batch of suspension bolts that are snapping without any good reason. The alloy suspension parts and/or the alloy wheel would be expected to fail before a critical steel bolt does. These bolts appear to be made from 2 parts with the ball joint stem being welded to a threaded extension. The bolts frequently snap about 1/4 inch from the weld in the transition zone. This is a deadly weakness. Please take immediate action. Thank you. Concerned citizen.

10 Ball Joint problem of the 2017 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Here is a discussion thread from united kingdom in which Tesla owners report several cases of snapped suspension ball joints (photographs are included) https://speakev. Com/threads/model-s-recall. 109425/ snip**** there have been a spate of Teslas where the front suspension fails reversing on full lock, for some reason over the icey weather I saw reports of 3 in a matter of days. One hunch is a rubber bush becomes less malleable or brittle in the cold. . . . . . . I take your point, and forums are a haven for the negatives, but there did seem to be a flurry of them on the facebook group a couple of weeks ago. I remember one was in the middle of guildford high street and the poor owner was berated for blocking a parking space! *** this identical breakage of the ball joint stem has been reported to NHTSA many times before. It is still affecting late model Teslas and it seems that the stem is made from two parts welded together. The fracture usually occurs close to the weld and in the zone that has turned blue from the heat of welding. In addition to the photograph from this discussion forum I have attached a close up photograph of a broken part which has the same failure. I do not believe that Tesla is going to fix this problem voluntarily but rather that they will continue to cover up and deny the breakages.

13 Ball Joint problem of the 2017 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

Here is a Tesla in the junkyard: the attached photographs show that the lower suspension ball joint has snapped. There is no way that the collision damage could have caused a steel ball joint to snap before the weaker aluminum parts gave way. The seat of the ball joint is bright and shiny and completely undamaged. Looking at all the other reports of similar failures example - https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/ms-suspension-ball-joint-failure. 109847/ it is certain that there is a bad batch of ball joints that fracture without warning. Tesla is covering up this issue. This amounts to criminal negligence. Please take immediate action before more lives are lost. Thank you. Concerned citizen.

15 Ball Joint problem of the 2014 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 12/30/2017

The left front fore link ball joint snapped like glass during normal driving. Luckily I was going at relatively low speed on a side street. This allowed the suspension to allow the wheel to slam into the firewall and it locked up causing the right side of the vehicle to hit a curb. As an engineer this scares the daylights out of me, as if it would have happened on a high speed highway turn, the results could have been deadly. Even without an understanding of advanced metallurgy, it's clear that a hardened steel ball joint should be stronger then the surrounding aluminum alloy parts on either side that it attaches to. It looks like a glass rod hit with a hammer. This same thing happened to another 2014 in our family about a year ago, and I chalked it up to random failure. But now 2 failures? I have the original failed part if needed for analysis. The replacement part I obtained through Tesla has been re-engineered, and appears to be from a different supplier. I went ahead and replaced both sides, and I still have the non-failed part on the left side. I attempted to contact Tesla about this, and they have not responded to me.

16 Ball Joint problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Here is yet another Tesla in the junkyard with a broken suspension: https://www. Iaai. Com/vehicle?itemid=26267542&rownumber=88&loadrecent=true multiple components of the suspension have snapped. The steering knuckle has broken in half and the lower arm ball joints have failed. There have been many other examples of this kind of failure and it is apparent that Tesla is quietly fixing some customers cars without even informing other owners of the danger. . Read more...

17 Ball Joint problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 08/04/2017

While stopping quickly on the freeway, a terrible sound emanated from the left front wheel. I pulled off the freeway thinking something was caught on the wheel/tire to find the back of the lf wheel well cover lifted up and pressing against the tire. Once roadside got there, the tech showed me how the "a arm" had split and come off of the ball joint and dropped down and was interfering with the wheel. Service says "more than likely the forelinks were not appropriately torqued, so while drive (sic) they became loose and cracked" this could have been a serious accident if the a arm had come loose at speed. What caused this?.
