Recently right side blind spot monitor camera stopped working. As result, majority of safety features in vehicle has been disabled to include forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and many other safety features of the vehicle.
Both vehicle displays have stopped functioning, therefore there is no indication of speed, remaining charge, blind spot protection, or back up camera. Also, turn signals are non-functional. This is a safety concern to yourself and other drivers.
What happened? while driving my 2015 Tesla Model S, the main touchscreen (mcu) began intermittently going black, disabling access to essential vehicle controls, navigation, climate settings, and rear-view camera display. At times when the mcu was functioning, the rear-view camera feed would still display a black screen upon shifting into reverse, leaving me without any rear visibility. Component or system that failed: media control unit (mcu1) / emmc memory failure rear-view camera and/or associated wiring harness safety risk: the intermittent blackouts of the mcu and loss of rear camera feed created significant safety hazards, especially when reversing or attempting to adjust driving settings while in motion. The loss of rear visibility increased the risk of collision with pedestrians, cyclists, or obstacles. The mcu failure also limited access to defrost/defog controls and turn signal audio feedback. Problem reproduction and confirmation: Tesla service has confirmed both the mcu1 hardware failure and the rear-view camera malfunction. The problems occurred repeatedly before being inspected. Inspection: the vehicle has been inspected by Tesla service center technicians, who diagnosed both the failing mcu1 and the defective rear-view camera. Warning messages or symptoms prior to failure: for mcu: slow system performance, frozen screen, then intermittent complete blackouts while driving. For rear-view camera: black or distorted camera feed when in reverse, even when the mcu display was otherwise operational. These issues began occurring in June 2025 and became progressively worse until Tesla inspection on July 6, 2025.

I believe my software is hacked. Car was purchased 6 months prior to when the vehicle shows registered to me. The vehicle shows no location with Tesla and has no direct contact from the vehicle with Tesla. My display screen blacks out while I’m driving on the freeway or streets. Leaves me feeling unsafe in bad areas I am driving to pick up drop off kids from college, school, or film school projects . Some of the safety hazard warnings do not work at times. Does not give me correct supercharger locations which leaves me in scary situations. Traveling on 405 freeway June 19,2023 my car excelled to 91mph without warning and didn’t use any sort of automated system as I do not have that capability. Tried to step on brake but did not work and I changed lanes which suddenly caused the car to slowly bring the car to driving mode again. Very scary. The car speaker had a male voice and all the car occupants pulled out their phones to see if it was coming from their phones. But it definitely came from the vehicle speaker system. My iphone was hacked with nso israel' company pegasus spyware and now my car is being hacked. I never connect my device to my car. Although my kids do periodically. Please advice on this urgent matter. Please contact me 310-872-7622.
I received a letter from Tesla in Jan 2024 detailing recall 24v-035 for my Model S 2023 vehicle. This recall indicates the vehicle is not in compliance with fmvss no. 111, s5. 5. 3. And promised an over-the-air software update to remedy the issue. However, it is now June 2024 and my vehicle continues to show no updates are available to fix this safety issue. My vehicle continues to run software version 2023. 44. 30. 6 while the fix is only available in version 2023. 44. 30. 7 and later. I am concerned the Tesla is either incapable of fixing the problem via software updates and is dragging its feet, or lacks the expertise to fix the problem via said software update.

The center console is once again failing. It will randomly go black and then reboot. This is the same component that was subject to a previous safety recall. I had it repaired under that recall, but it is now failing again. When I reported the problem to Tesla service, their response was to tell me "it's acting as expected". Huh? they told me I would have to spend over two thousand dollars to get it fixed this time.
1)mcu1 flash memory failure in production from 2012 to 2018, part is available, but would require downing the car to remove/replace. 2)the symptoms of this failure include the loss of indicated gear state and reduced driver visibility from the loss of rearview camera, defrost/defog and exterior signal lighting which increases the risk of an accident. Driver display is black or booting up slowly during this time and the car can be put into gear and driven prior to the display showing dnr gear state making it a safety risk to anyone walking near the vehicle if it was accidently put into gear. 3)issue was confirmed by Tesla and was told an update to mcu2 hardware at $2250 was needed at the customer (my) expense. The vehicle was under a full Tesla warranty, so I refused and asked them to fix this issue. Tesla service cleared/freed up some memory but said the issue would return unless I paid to update to mcu2 hardware. The issue has returned as they stated. 4)yes, by Tesla service and Tesla engineering. Both confirmed that this was a known issue with the mcu1 hardware in production from 2012 to 2018 and recommended that I (the customer) update the vehicle to mcu2 hardware for $2250. 5)there are no warning lamps or messages to inform the operator of an issue. Only the black driver display, but that doesn’t prevent the operator from putting the vehicle in gear. The symptoms start with slow driver display boot times and progressively get worse over time losing the rearview camera, defrost/defog and exterior lighting controls. The display lag becomes enough to be able to accidently put the car in drive or reverse without displaying indicated gear state on the dash making it a safety risk to anyone walking near the car.
The car suddenly has a powertrain issue, but it is a widely known problem with some estimates of 66% of all early Teslas having a powertrain issue by 60k miles. Mine happened at 56k. There is clearly a defect with early Tesla powertrains, as they increased the warranty to 8 years or 50k miles. My car is now at 9 years, and because of the low mileage due to covid, they will not cover the powertrain issue of the car. The following are links proving significant issues of my car. . Part ii after I emailed Tesla kearney mesa service station, with my concern about their billing for the recall and customer service; I was sent a new billing. Mind you, all my issues are related to the recall and Tesla schemes and falsehoods. See attached.
The 3 rear-looking cameras display 3 images to the center display, when the car is in reverse. I rely on them as I pull my car into the narrow opening of my garage stall at home. The opening is for a single car, & has pillars on either side, allowing 8-9", total, clearance with mirrors folded. Even with mirrors extended, I have limited visibility to the clearance of the sides of the car, as they pass the pillars. The repeater cameras, in the front fenders, are a great support to see the garage as I back into my garage. However, the ui, immediately upon selecting 'reverse' while near the home garage, conceals 50% of these side images from view with a pop-up rectangular user interface (ui) -- ruining any advantage I have to see the rear as I pass these obstacles. As a result, I have to dismiss the pop-up ui & avoid triggering the controls within it, by making a sliding motion on the center display, with my fingers applied to the ui. This is a problem because: 1) the ui displays the option to trigger one of my 3 garage doors, each of which have an associated homelink rectangular button. This is useless when the garage is already open. 2) I'm in reverse, so I'm trying to back-in to the garage in one motion. Adding an extra steps, by clearing this obscuring ui distracts. 3) with tight clearances added problems are: trash might lie outside the garage; items can be left in my garage stall; people could be nearby. Distractions mess this up. Tesla likely fails: a) that the garage could already be activated to be open (or even opening) -- & therefore, tends to prompt the user multiple times, while parking; b) that 3 homelink garages are at the home. They didn't budget screen real-estate to show the homelink buttons without obscuring the backup display-screens assigned to each of the 3 rear-ward facing cameras; c) that a driver prefers to back-in to the parking space, relying on views of the 3 cameras to avoid obstacles. Tesla counted on people to forward to park.

I have never received an audible alert for my blind spot warning. There is no light on the outside mirrors or anywhere else inside the vehicle to catch your attention. If I am looking at my display in front of my steering wheel I will see a car that is in my blindspot change from gray to red when I activate my blinker; however, the car has never beeped or alerted me beyond passively changing the car color to red on my display screen. If I'm changing lanes I am not looking at my screen which is directly in front of me, I'm looking at the road and I'm looking left or right. I have almost hit many other vehicles multiple times because my car will not audibly notify me that theres a car in my blind spot or a car that is speeding up behind me which I might have missed. This is a feature which I paid for and I feel is defective in it's current state. The car is available upon request for inspection. The lack of an audible bsw alert puts myself and others on the road at an increased risk of collision. I have mentioned it to the dealer but after over two years no update has been made. I have not made a big attempt to correct this issue with the dealer since it's difficult to speak to someone at Tesla. No, the issue has not been inspected by anyone. I discussed it with a rep shortly after I purchased the vehicle but it seems like an issue that Tesla knows about if they only programed the vehicle color to change and didn't program an audible alert. No, there have not been any alerts before this issue as it appears to be a simple programing issue.

Right and left door pillar cameras accumulate condensation, leaving door pillar cameras “blocked or blinded. ” this affects collision avoidance. While the owners manual mentions that condensation can accumulate in these cameras, the stated remedy does not resolve the condensation. If you live in a wet or cold climate, these cameras are blocked or blinded most of the time.
My Tesla is under a recall for bad memory. My Tesla constantly reboots. I often have to wait several minutes from when I get in the car until it is ready to drive with all functions. I sometimes am forced to drive with the center screen not working. This takes away my backup camera. A required safety feature. Tesla says the part is not available. I request a reliable loaner until they get the part repaired under recall.
The vehicle's main center console doesn't work, even after a recall notice from Tesla. Tesla tried to see what was going on with my car, but they could not find it, but 5-10% of the time my car still has a center console screen not working. There is a defect and these times it is very dangerous to drive the car.
My vehicle is part of the emmc media chip recall. I have tried repeatedly in past 6 months to have Tesla repair my vehicle, which continues to suffer screen blackouts daily during operation. These blackouts render my backup camera blank, creating a major safety concern. Each time I schedule an appointment, Tesla will cancel and tell me they do not have the part. They are not complying with the NHTSA recall. I cannot in good faith believe their excuse that part is unavailable given the massive volume of cars they are producing quarterly.
Hi, Tesla has a recall from the NHTSA regarding the mcu chip that powers the main center console screen. It can fail over time. My vehicle is under the recall, and they did the mcu chip recall but it did not help the screen. It is still failing. Without the screen working, the vehicle controls are not usable since 95% of the functions are through the screen. I contacted Tesla and they have ignored me and declined to fix the vehicle, even though the purpose of the recall was to fix the center screen.
Tesla is refusing to refund the out of pocket cost paid for the mcu touchscreen repair, described by the NHTSA recall number 21v035. Please find attached Tesla's automated system refusing to refund, plus my service receipt showing it was paid out of pocket.
My vehicle is subject to the Tesla mcu recall, in which the substandard emmc was killed by excessive logging and rendering the entire mcu inoperative. I had the mcu replaced prior to the recall, and filed the reimbursement claim when it went live. Tesla denied my claim, stating that the replacement was done for reasons other than those specified in the recall. Other Tesla owners report similar claim dismissals. Tesla must be legally forced to honor the recall and reimbursement order.
The multi-media screen when blank and would not reboot in Dec. 2020. It had gone blank before many times over the years (more than I think most cars) but always I was able to reboot the car/computer. I had complained a couple of times at the service center going back a few years and got advice to reboot. Lately it had been happening quite frequently. This time it would not work. I called Tesla and the rep asked if the turn signals worked and I confirmed that they did not. He indicated that this was a safety issue and I should not drive the car and schedule a repair ASAP. Meanwhile, I had already received a notice in the mail of a volunary repair that telsa would do if the screen went out and woudl not rebooot. I was able to get an earlier appointment than the 2 week one that was offered by going into the Tesla service center (as they had advised I could try to do). I was later told that they would not voluntarily repair this for me and I would have to pay. It took them a number of days to get back to me on this. Tesla service center rep and manager indicated that even though the end result of my issue was the same -- no screen, no rear back up camera, no turn signals, no defrost presumably -- my issue was caused by a defective audio chip for the display and not the defective multi-media chip. I had the same safety issues but they required that I pay out of pocket fo the repair. They explained that Tesla had figure out a less expensive way to swap out the mulit media chip but for the audio chip it required a full replacement of the panel or something and that cost them more. I asked about who can I escalate this to and was told I woudl hae to write the legal department. I wrote the legal department on March 12, 2021 to request a refund. They have still not written me back or even acknowledged my letter. Since I wrote my letter to Tesla, my undestanding is that NHTSA has required Tesla to issue a recall to repair a blank screen chip issue.
My guess is the mcu or the computer chip of the car stopped working. I read there is an investigation on Tesla for this issue with Model S. Every last few software updates the car has been getting worse and now the electrical stopped working completely. I can use my blinkers even! the car drives and charges, but that is about it. 40k miles total and build 2015.
Touch screen will blank, show unusual characters, not respond, exhibit pixillation, stop rear vision camera from displaying, not play radio or music properly and/or intermittantly, and present navigation information improperly. Media computer was replaced last year, but new computer still has those same and other problems. Happens with vehicle in motion, city and highway, randomly. Evidence indicates this may be related to a memory storage hardware chip inside the media computer, being of too little total capacity. Or related to internet signal from manufacture being unreliable, week, intermittent, or defective.
Multiple center screen failures experienced since October 2020. Most notable highway driving incidents listed below. 18nov2020 while driving center screen became unresponsive. The driver seat heater was stuck on level 3. The turn signal sound continued after the turn signal was turned off. Climate controls couldn't be turned off. No response to radio selections. 10 mins later the radio came on at a very loud volume, but unable to reduce or mute volume. Volume muted after 10 mins. The screen rebooted, no cell signal. 19nov2020 driving, the touch screen went black. Attempted to reboot using the scroll buttons several times. It did not respond. I rebooted the driver's screen, then the center screen began to reboot. The Tesla symbol appeared and disappeared 4 times over 5 minutes before the center screen came on. Car unable to connect to cell services for several days. 26nov2020 driving, all systems appear to be normal accept there's no volume, and no turn signals. Center screen went black. Cannot stop ventilation. 4 hours after parking car the ventilation is still on, but the driver screen shows that the ventilation is off. Center screen does not respond to reboot attempts. Battery power getting low. Finally recovered center screen after 36 hours. 02dec2020 center screen went black and did not come back on. Request for appointment with Tesla made. Earliest appointment is 21dec2020. Have not been able to reboot center screen after many attempts. 12 days later and screen is still not recoverable. When the center screen goes black the following features are out of commission: turn signals back up camera climate control & seat heaters(if on, I cannot turn it off) hazard lights tire pressure sensors autopilot features adaptive cruise control lane departure warning blind spot warning infotainment charging controls.
On November 23rd 2020 I took my Model S ([xxx]) to Tesla service center lancaster, PA for the Tesla warranty adjustment program which was announced on November 9th and related to malfunctioning touchscreen due to a malfunctioning emmc. This is the result of the service visit; 1) Tesla lancaster, PA service center told me my vehicle is not in the warranty parameters (the Tesla warranty adjustment program stated 8years/100k miles. My car has less than 100k miles and initial delivery was November 24th 2012 - so Tesla lancaster, PA was wrong about this as service date was November 23rd, 2020) 2) Tesla lancaster, PA service center stated "the vehicle is not equipped with the emmc" (a 2012 Model S has to have some type of memory device in it - I would expect it to be an emmc of some sort. The November "warranty adjustment program" stated no-cost repairs for malfunctioning emmc but lancaster, PA service center did not repair my car. ) so in short when I took my car in for November warranty adjustment program related to screen going blank intermittently Tesla would not fix it. My screen is still blank intermittently because Tesla would not repair it and now with the February 2021 NHTSA recall 21v035 released I would like this screen issue fixed properly and permanently. Regardless of what emmc or memory device is in the car the NHTSA safety concerns still apply (unavailability of the rearview camera display, defrost/defog control settings for purposes of ensuring visibility, and exterior turn signal lighting may increase the risk of a crash). I am requesting the mcu be replaced with mcu v2 free of charge because Tesla stated my 2012 Model S does not have the 8gb emmc and because of safety concerns with the current state of the mcu. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Car's central console locks up or goes blank while driving. This creates a driving hazard as drive must take his eyes off the road and try to restart the console. Tesla sent out a notice by mail in March that a recall was issued and that Tesla would replace the defective parts. Tesla sent a secondary notice in April. They will not take calls concerning this issue and have not provided an estimated repair date. No communication on this recall has been made by Tesla for 90 days.
My Tesla is experiencing the mcu problems outlined in NHTSA ea20-003 from 13 Jan 21 and prior. While in motion, on city streets and highways, and regardless of speed, my vehicle's mcu will spontaneously and at random intervals freeze. This results in loss of heat/cooling, front and rear defrosters, infotainment/gps, adas safety features and convenience, all cameras including backup camera, and turn signal audio indicators. The only resolution is to stop my vehicle, issue a reboot command, and wait up to 10 minutes for systems to restore. Tesla initially denied the issue, but then under Tesla's 9 Nov 2020 "warranty adjustment program" replaced the mcu daughterboard. The replacement did not resolve the issue. Tesla now states the mcu is operating normally but acknowledges that a fix is required in software that will, at an indeterminate time, become available and that until such a fix is released, system reboots should be performed as needed. The mcu continues to freeze while driving with the same symptoms as before the daughterboard replacement. The recommended solution to reboot cannot be performed while driving but must be performed immediately to restore safety functionality. Tesla has offered a $2,500 mcu replacement/upgrade that promises to eliminate the issue since the newer mcu has more storage and an intel atom cpu instead of a slower nvidia cpu. Tesla refuses to replace the existing mcu with a similar part in the meantime, despite initially acknowledging an issue and attempting a fix by replacing the daughterboard, and erasing the system due to possible "corruption" twice.

My 2017 Tesla s 75d has been having issues with the emmc/daughterboard main computer/screen/control panel blanking out, where basically the screen that has the majority of controls goes black for a few hours. On one occasion the steering wheel was affected--it locked up. To temporarily remedy the issue, I have to reboot the software/car, but I have to be parked and stopped for 30 minutes to an hour, to go through this procedure. This is a reoccurring problem that started in 2020 and it seems other issues, have stemmed from this. For example, the system has a delay of 1-2 minutes to start up--at every start up; other sporadic issues such as no sound (as in there are no sounds, music, alarms or otherwise, working, at all); the key fob is delayed in being detected (even after replacing the battery).
The instrument panel goes dark and inoperable at times when driving. Alerts are noted that vehicle safety warnings are disabled. We’ve tried to remedy with the dealer now on several occasions and we’ve been charged for appointments only to find out that this is a vehicle recall. Despite all these attempts Tesla palm springs dealer keeps saying they will let us know when parts to repair become available. Other rattling repairs in center counsel are delayed pending this recall correction. But we never hear back from the dealer about this correction. It seems excessive on the time waiting to get the component/part to correct this issue. What can be done? it seems like a safety issue to keep driving the car without this correction.
