Summary of complaint: my 2023 Tesla Model Y has had two roof glass failures in three months (two glass roof replacements). Both times, the glass cracked from small road debris while driving under normal city conditions. Safety concern the roof glass appears unusually fragile and prone to cracking, raising concerns about whether it meets industry standards for impact resistance and occupant safety. The rapid failure rate (two roof glass panels in three months) suggests a potential design or materials defect rather than isolated incidents of road damage. If roof glass panels cannot withstand normal road debris, this presents a safety risk for drivers and passengers, as well as for other motorists if large shards detach while driving. The roof glass seems unusually fragile. Two failures in such a short time suggest a design or material defect. If the glass cannot withstand normal road debris, it may not meet durability or safety standards. There is also risk to occupants and other drivers if roof glass fails while in motion. Request: please investigate whether the 2023 Tesla Model Y roof glass meets required safety standards, and whether this issue is affecting other owners.
While attempting to park my Tesla, I accidentally struck another vehicle’s side step with the front passenger side of my car. The other vehicle was not damaged, but my Tesla sustained visible damage. The vehicle’s camera system failed to detect or display the side step, giving the impression that there was sufficient clearance. As a result, I relied on what I believed to be accurate visual guidance from the Tesla camera system. During a follow-up visit to the Tesla service center in gilroy, California, I was told that similar incidents have occurred before. According to the technicians, the camera system has known limitations in detecting low-profile or side-mounted obstacles, such as running boards or side steps. This presents a significant safety concern. Tesla vehicles rely heavily on cameras and sensors for driver awareness, particularly during parking maneuvers. When key blind spots exist in the system—especially in areas the driver may not be able to visually confirm easily—it puts both property and people at risk. Drivers are conditioned to trust the vehicle’s spatial guidance systems, but in this case, that trust may lead to preventable accidents. Given Tesla’s growing market share and the increasing use of its camera-based safety and autonomy features, I believe this issue could affect many other drivers. It may warrant broader review to determine whether a design or software update is necessary to improve detection of low-profile obstacles and better inform drivers in parking scenarios.
I was using the self driving in about 65 miles per hour this was little bit under speed limit in highway in florida. Suddenly the car started to do zig zags and cycles alone and when I tried to control the car and drive my self the car didn’t respond to me and self driving couldn’t be stopped I couldn’t switch to regular driver this was self driving malfunction and could cause big accident in a highway. The car stopped because it took me out of the road and hit the guardrail.
My 2023 Tesla Model Y has produced concerningly loud mechanical noises while parked, plugged in, and not being driven. I’ve experienced this on two separate occasions—June 17 and June 22, 2025—after the vehicle had been parked for several hours in a garage. Upon waking the car (without driving it), it emitted a very loud and persistent mechanical sound, both while plugged in and even after unplugging. The volume and intensity of these sounds were far beyond normal operation and raised immediate concerns of overheating, component failure, or an underlying safety defect. The experience felt unsafe enough that we considered exiting the vehicle both times. We attempted to schedule a service appointment through the Tesla app, but received no response, and the request appears to have disappeared with no record remaining in the app. Based on the nature of the sound, we’re unsure what it could be, and may indicate a malfunction in the cooling system or battery thermal management. I have video documentation of both incidents, along with video from other nights with similar temperatures where this did not occur, for comparison. I’m submitting this report out of genuine concern for vehicle safety and reliability, especially given Tesla’s known issues with thermal and battery behavior in high-heat conditions. These noises began recently, and we have owned the car since 2022 and have driven it consistently in high texas heat every summer. This suggests a new or developing malfunction, not a feature of normal operation.
Description of incident: I was taking my family on a road trip from disneyland back home to chandler, arizona when our 2022 Tesla Model Y displayed a battery issue. We stopped in palm springs to charge, but the battery would only charge very slowly and capped out at 32%. We brought the vehicle to the palm springs Tesla service center, where they diagnosed a failure in the high-voltage (hv) battery and stated it would need to be replaced — a process that would take about a week. Given that the car is only two years old, I found it concerning that a battery expected to last around 10 years would already need replacement. We were provided a loaner vehicle and returned to arizona. When the repair was completed, I drove the loaner vehicle back to palm springs (a 5-hour trip) to pick up my car. On the return drive home, I stopped at a Tesla supercharger in quartzsite, arizona, but the vehicle would not charge. After spending over 90 minutes on the phone with Tesla roadside assistance, a tow truck was dispatched and took both me and the car to the glendale, az Tesla service center. There, I was informed — again — that the hv battery needed to be replaced. I explained that this component had just been replaced two days ago in palm springs, and asked for an explanation. I was not provided with any specific technical reason for the repeated failure, other than being told that the battery "just needs to be replaced again. " safety concerns: at this point, I am deeply concerned that there may be a more significant or systemic issue with the vehicle’s electrical or battery systems that has not been properly identified. The repeated hv battery failures — combined with the lack of a clear explanation — raise serious safety concerns for my family and me, especially given how reliant the vehicle is on this system for power, propulsion, and emergency response.
On memorial day weekend, my car was parked outside, and apparently back passenger window was left open, which caused the backseat area of the car to be soaked in water. We noticed that in the morning, and parked the car inside the garage, and kept the door and windows open so it could dry quickly. However, a few hours later, around 4:30 pm, the car caught fire while parked in the garage. We called 911 right away and quickly using two fire extinguishers, quickly put out the fire. The frisco fire department opened up the investigation, and I believe they concluded the cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit due to water or battery-related issues. The fire incident occurred inside the garage, which could have potentially burned the entire house. However, due to the brave actions of my 14-year-old, we put the fire out, but he ended up in the hospital due to severe smoke inhalation.
Vehicle had a open window during rain storm. Interior got wet. Next day the vehicle was left to dry out. Vehicle caught on fire and engulfed in flames in the backseat. Nobody was harmed fire was contained by the frisco fire department. Vehicle was then towed away.
•incident date: [xxx] •location: dallas, GA – intersection of [xxx] and [xxx] •systems involved: forward collision avoidance, automated driving system description: while operating my 2023 Tesla Model Y long range sport in full self-driving (fsd) mode at approximately [xxx] am on [xxx], when the vehicle failed to yield at a yield sign while heading west on [xxx] at the intersection of [xxx] . A vehicle was already traveling west on [xxx] , and fsd accelerated through the yield rather than stopping or yielding. I had to apply the brakes rapidly to avoid a near side-swipe collision. The road was dry, with partly cloudy weather. Fortunately, no collision occurred. Dashcam footage was saved and can be made available. Unknown I was driving with no advanced driver assistance systems (adas). My vehicle took control of the steering wheel, swerving uncontrollably, almost hitting approaching cars, and a wooden electricity post. It was diffucult to keep the steering wheel steady. I struggled to pull the vehicle to the side of the road until I made a complete stop. A witness checked on me and was concerned that I had almost crashed.
Control arm bolts failure. As my wife was driving from a stop light making a right turn at below 10 mph she heard a loud bang. Both of the bolts connecting the control arm had fallen out onto the ground causing the wheel to fail and push back into the wheel arch. The problem has been reported to the dealer but from research and conversations with them this is fairly common. Should that have happened on a freeway it could have been catastrophic.
This is my 6th complaint about Tesla. I wrote recently when my remote drivers could not unlock my car. I solved it myself and when I got home, I called roadside service for help re-programing the key card that failed. The person told me to call Tesla on Monday about the inability of my other drivers to unlock my car. I did that yesterday, and I told him I thought it was something wrong with my car, and suspected I needed to take it in for service. He said no, it wasn't the car but that I needed premium connectivity ($10/mo) in order for my drivers to be able to unlock my car. He put me on hold and came back to tell me that "it's a safety thing" so that no one can remotely unlock my car. The reason I put 2 friends in other states on my profile was for them to be able to help me, as a single woman who lives alone and takes camping trips alone. That is not a possibility. Furthermore, I asked him about the sudden braking on cruise control and he'd never heard of it. He uses the auto drive, that they don't call auto drive anymore. . . Presumably because of the safety issues. I think this car needs to be recalled like the trucks were. They are not safe and Tesla doesn't care. By the way, the car has 5g, but I cannot stream my music or listen to podcasts, to which I'm already subscribed, without paying for premium connectivity. What a scam.
Tesla remotely disabled my vehicle twice (February 28, 2025, and March 6, 2025) without prior notice, legal justification, or a court order. February 28, 2025 – Tesla disabled my vehicle for 3 days my Tesla Model Y was remotely locked without warning, leaving me stranded and unable to use my vehicle. Tesla refused to provide a reason or reinstate access for three days. March 6, 2025 – Tesla disabled my vehicle again & attempted repossession Tesla again remotely disabled my vehicle, then sent a tow truck for repossession without legal notice. I called the police, who confirmed Tesla had no legal repossession order. Tesla refused to restore access, forcing me into a coerced “voluntary surrender. ” how this posed a safety risk I was stranded in public locations without notice or transportation alternatives. Had the vehicle been in motion, this could have caused a road hazard. Tesla’s lack of due process denied me the chance to dispute the action before losing my vehicle. Confirmed by law enforcement & Tesla’s own records police intervened on March 6, 2025, and confirmed Tesla had no valid repossession order. Tesla has refused to provide written documentation or a legal explanation for these actions. Regulatory concerns Tesla’s unilateral ability to disable vehicles raises serious consumer safety issues: what prevents Tesla from disabling vehicles arbitrarily? what legal safeguards exist to protect owners from unjustified manufacturer lockouts? should federal law restrict Tesla from disabling vehicles without court approval? request for investigation Tesla’s remote disabling practice endangers consumers and should be urgently investigated by NHTSA to determine if federal safeguards are needed.
Tesla offers a "Smart summon" as part of a paid feature of full self driving. I have used this feature many times without issue. In this incident, it failed to detect a support column next to a parking spot and while pulling out, it turned right and collided with the pole causing damage to the vehicle. Tesla refused to take responsibility for their feature failing.
My car is equipped with autopilot feature which I am unable to use due to safety score system designed by Tesla which is used for calculating insurance premiums. This safety score system doesn’t count the miles driven on autopilot and only counts the miles driven without autopilot to decide safety score which impacts insurance premium. This policy forces consumers to drive car without autopilot to increase number of miles driven to compensate for any mistakes made during driving without autopilot. This not only compromises safety of the vehicle and passengers but also deprives me to use features of my car that I paid for. Since autopilot is a supervised driving and requires driver active engagement the miles driven using autopilot should also be counted to decide safety score. Dealership are unable to help with any issues related to safety score system and there is no customer support available to address customer concerns.
Heat pump tends to fail when temperatures reach out temperatures below 0ºf. This is a safety risk as at these temperatures, a failure to the vehicle heat pump could lead to death. There are many reports in forums and social media, such as here: [xxx] and [xxx] that shows this is a common issue. The system started to fail last time the temperatures reached around that point (around the beginning of Jan 2015), however the car quickly recovered from that. The error shows up as vcfront_a447. Occurred on [xxx] at [xxx]. Las vegas. [xxx] and [xxx] are the closest intersections. My lane had construction cones and I had to merge. There was one zoox ahead of me and one behind in the left lane and I tried to merge in between with blinkers on. The zoox car behind sped up to close the gap to block me out. After the stop light turned green zi tried to merge again before my lane ended and the driver did the same thing by closing the cap and almost hitting the zoox ahead of him. It also looks like that driver intentionally partially blocked the first left turn lane so I couldn't use it. I have everything recorded on my Tesla front, side and back cameras. I attached the footage in the email for review. We should all be concerned if the autonomous vehicle drives this way or if it's learning from this driver's driving behavior. I wanted to add that I had my wife and infant in the car. There's a baby on board sticker on the back, driver side so the zoox driver had to have seen it and still decided to run me into the cones unless I stopped despite I was already on the dashed lines merging in. It's all on the cam. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
How did Tesla pass the safety standards for the position of rear door handles to manually open the vehicle? the vehicle gets into an accident or the car plunges into water - and this almost always results in a non-responsive/deal battery. *** the rear passengers are hurt and you want them to find that little piece of rubber mat hidden in a cranny, lift it, and then use their nail to open the plastic cover to reach that piece of junk to manually open the door? ** no way !! manual door handle in the rear doors should be placed where it's easily accessible, just like you have on the front doors. This is truly a life threatening safety issue with how Tesla has hide the rear passenger manual door handles. Please force Tesla to issue a recall and fix the issue by providing an easy access to manually open the rear door in emergencies. The car gets on fire and rear passengers may burn alive because they won't be able to open the door due to the current system of a super hidden rear door handle. Thanks, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Cameras not working suddenly, navigation software hung in last location coordinates, auto pilot and it’s safety features not working backup cameras not working , creating blind spot while reversing the car not sure what caused the issue , there was an over wire update few days back maybe that is causing it reported to Tesla service but appointments are backed out seems many cars has this issue recently in last 1-2 months.
Vehicle drove on it’s own with no driver in while charging.
Accident report [xxx] I was driving on [xxx] fort smith ar to bentonville car was on autopilot, it was raining on and off and with all other cars we were driving around 70-80 mph all the sudden it started a short slip on the right then second after that it started spinning and took us out of the road car totaled car. I believe problem is autopilot did not disengage when car started to slip but instead it was still on until the car got out of the road and hit a large tree. This is 3rd time for me to have this type of accident with same situation slip then spin then out of the road. I believe autopilot is the problem here 100%. This autopilot system is very dangerous. I had enough of this and im hoping national highway traffic system will step in. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
At 10:11 pm driving on 95 south at 78 miles per hour the car stopped on its own violently braking and swerved across the intersection. Then we kept getting alerts about the cameras. I have pictures of the alerts. There was no obstruction on the highway. Car just braked for no reason. Very scary.
Tesla Model Y 2023 running on enhanced autopilot (software up to date as of Nov. 19, 2024) on a highway in the rush hour when traffic is moving at the speed of 5 - 30 mph, failed to identify the trailer in the front and sped up. I had to take over control, apply brakes to avoid the rear-ending the trailer in front of me. Tesla was speeding up as if the road was open. In the computer display it does not show any traffic in front of the car. The trailer did not have any reflectors in the backside, but had working tail lights that would light up only when the trailer applied brakes. In the attached picture, blue Tesla is my car. There were no warnings of any kind of malfunctioning in my car. Highway safety can probably improve regulations on making the trailers more visible. Tesla should improve its image recognition software. Not being able to recognize a dark trailer from the dark asphalt road is a dangerous situation for Tesla cars running on autopilot.
Auto parking feature malfunction and backed right rear quarter panel and bumper into a yellow pole in a parking spot.
Twice it happened that I felt sudden unintended acceleration twice this week. Last one happened last night on my way to work and the experience is frightening that I had to drive very slow with my feet ready for the brakes in case it happened again.
Incident report: spontaneous shattering of driver-side glass window incident summary: the driver-side window of my vehicle spontaneously shattered twice while parked, producing a loud burst sound on both occasions. The first incident occurred in may 2024, and the second took place on September 5, 2024. Details of incidents: - first incident: may 2024 - the window shattered spontaneously with no prior warning or messages. - Tesla replaced the window after the first incident. - second incident: September 5, 2024 - the window shattered again with similar characteristics. - this poses a significant safety risk as shattered glass can potentially cause injury, such as entering the eye. Current status: - the problem has not been independently confirmed by third-party experts or the dealership. - the vehicle has not been inspected by insurance, police, or the manufacturer following the second incident. - Tesla addressed the issue after the first occurrence without knowledge of it reoccurring. Concerns: - there is a persistent safety risk due to the potential for injury from shattered glass. - lack of investigation or confirmation from independent sources or the manufacturer about the underlying cause. I am asking Tesla for a thorough inspection and iinstallation.
I was dropping my daughter to school making a right turn on a light I heard a pop made an appointment with Tesla for them to check what was it. . Was still able to drive the car for 2 hours for some errands then around 10:30 I heard a thud looked at my rearview mirror saw bolts falling off my car was able to pull over in safe place then check my car saw the right wheel was off then check under saw the control arm or stabilizer im not sure fell off I wasnt driving fast it just failed….
Full self driving version 12. 5. 1. 3 has run through red lights on two occasions in past three weeks. This is completely unacceptable and software must be recalled. Suggest that Tesla should be reimbursing customers subscription fees paid.
I was driving down i90 with no one in front of me and a clear road. Unexpectedly, the right side passenger airbags exploded and struck me in the face and shoulder. The car immediately braked and I saw a semi truck pass me on the right with pieces of what appeared to be tire debris flying in the air. I pulled over and my car become inoperable. I inspected the outside of the vehicle and there was no damage or collision at all yet the passenger side airbags went off.
My husband and I use our phones as the key to the car, which is a commonly used (and suggested) feature for Tesla vehicles. We were leaving the beach with our baby. I had our phones in one of the beach bags, which enabled me to open the trunk and side door. I dropped the bags in the trunk so my husband could finish loading the car while I strapped the baby in the car seat. When we were done he closed the trunk and we tried to open the door but it was locked with our baby inside. Suddenly, the phone would not recognize neither of our phone keys nor the key cards inside our wallets, which were also in the car. Now the baby is trapped in the car in 100 degree heat. We had to borrow someone’s phone to call 911 and break the window so we could get our baby out of the hot car. When the phone (key) is in the car the car is not supposed to lock. This was the first time this ever happened and it could have been fatal. Luckily, emergency responders arrived quickly to retrieve our baby.
On July 11, 2024 around 7:45 am as I was at an intersection waiting for the light to change, I had my foot on the brake pedal when the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own, the brake pedal was deppressed and it still could not stop the vehicle. The vehicle travelled at least 60-80 feet with the brake pedal deppressed until it finally came to a stop. At the time there was 4 people in the vehicle, we were lucky that there was no traffic at the intersecction which could have caused a collision. We feel that this vehicle is unsafe to drive.
Over last several weeks, I noticed a pungent smell in the cabin on my 2023 Tesla Model Y. The smell is intermittent but has me concerned. I left voice messages at the local Tesla service center but they have not reached back out to me. The Tesla app complaint directed me to the Tesla service center. I would like to get a response back from the manufacturer as they have long wait times on the phone and are not replying back to the messages.
The recall didn’t resolved in a timely manner.
In may 2023, after I took my car from the Tesla service center in santa ana, I realized there was an issue of shaking and shredding from the motor, and it got worse when I pressed the brakes. That happened when I drove the car down a steep road from [xxx] down to [xxx] in the city of laguna beach; then I drove the car to a different road from [xxx] , then down from [xxx] to [xxx] and [xxx] , where it is down steep as well. Then the same issue showed up, and I couldn't keep pressing break because the shaking got worse, so I let the car roll with shaking till it reached the straight road and stopped. Since then, I have started to avoid steeping, but once, it showed up on another downhill street, which was not as steep as the others. Still, it was a longer downhill, coming from [xxx] down to [xxx] till it splits to [xxx] and [xxx] . At that time, I did not have time to take it to the service because I was very disappointed with them after taking it for several issues several times. They never fixed them, and because I had my mother, who was in critical health issues, I needed to be with her all the time and take her to her appointments for her surgeries and wound care for several months until this year in March. Then I realized that the issue keeps changing from existing to disappearing to existing again. Still, instead of starting at a speed of 1 mile, it begins at 9 miles and disappears at a speed of 11 - 12 miles. It does not have a high level of shaking, but it still exists. I am unsure if that changes with the different updates they do through the air for the car. But the issue still exists, and the shaking levels change. Lately, they have taken it seriously after several attempts to report it and bring it to the service center. After nine days, they concluded that they had tried a similar car. This issue does exist, and it is normal when I have tried multiple cars, including their several demo cars at different times. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 5.
We were trying to park the car in our garage when the car suddenly sped up. And hit our the fence . I released the pedal but it kept driving until I hit the brake. Air bag did not deploy. The car?s front was smashed. Our fence is also badly damaged. I have asked Tesla to investigate if it was because of the autopilot taking over but have not received a response from them yet after more than a week.
During two hour trip I experienced at least five incidents of so called fantom braking, when car engaged in autopilot or adaptive cruise control brakes suddenly for no apparent reason. At least two time during this trip, the braking was really hard. This is very dangerous conditions and could result in serious accident if someone closely follow the vehicle. I had to keep my foot on the gas pedal during this trip to act if necessary. I have experienced these conditions before and reported it to Tesla. They basically ignored this complaint.
On [xxx], the vehicle displayed multiple alerts: “electrical power reduced,” “climate cabin controller requires service,” “electrical system may not support all features,” and “vehicle may not restart. ” I scheduled service for may 21, 2024, and dropped the vehicle off at the Tesla service center in fresno, CA. Tesla failed to provide a written invoice for that visit. A service advisor told me “it was a glitch” and that I should check the app, but no documentation appeared. Despite multiple in-person and written requests, I never received a record of the visit. On [xxx], the vehicle failed to start and was towed back to Tesla. A may 24 invoice confirmed a major safety issue—a high-voltage current fault that triggered the pyrotechnic battery disconnect. Tesla later marked the may 21 appointment as “canceled” in their system. I photographed this cancellation screen in July, confirming the visit was erased despite a clear safety-related defect. This raises concerns about Tesla’s compliance with documentation and reporting obligations. I also submitted two reimbursement requests for $470. 12 in transportation costs, which Tesla has not honored. These incidents show a pattern of concealment and unfair warranty practices. I respectfully request an investigation into this issue and whether a broader safety recall is warranted. Supporting documents are available upon request. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6.
Took Tesla's 30-day free trial offer of full self-driving (supervised) for my Model Y. Encountered several concerning situations: 1. Autopilot failed to detect a parking barrier arm, causing acceleration towards it; fortunately, I intervened in time. 2. Merged onto the highway in the wrong lane, prompting honks from vehicles behind me. 3. Wheel hit the side road curb when making a right turn, damaging the hubcaps and tire on the right rear side. Unsure if Tesla will take responsibility for repairs, but I feel it's important to share my experience to highlight that autopilot may not be as advanced as expected.
Tesla has a joke feature where a song starts playing that is a parody of Saturday night live skit "I need more cowbell". What causes this to be played is pushing down on the right steering wheel stalk 4 times sequentially. Nothing will silence this, however. Not even turning the volume of the car off. It causes a constant, loud, and visual distraction. And it prompts distraction for drivers to try and silence it. I have nearly been in multiple accidents trying to silence it. There should be no car audio that is played that cannot be silenced by turning the volume off. This is common sense. Any other reasoning is inviting distraction. Not withstanding that Tesla has made doing simple tasks like turning the volume down or air conditioning up more attention requiring than cars of the last 50 years. This is a clear and demonstrable safety hazard with, as I would imagine, criminal liability for Tesla. Please recall all Tesla cars until they eliminate this clear and present distraction.
Car was being driven into a car wash. Driver went to put car into neutral and car lurched forward and crashed into car in front of it without gas pedal being engaged. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer or others. No warning lamps or other messages. May have been related to recently installed full self driving software that was automatically installed but was not requested by vehicle owner. Vehicle owner did not intend to engage any sort of self driving or automatic acceleration systems.
When using auto pilot/traffic aware adaptive cruise control at highway speeds (55 to 75mph), vehicle will on occasion, slam on the brakes and steer to the right for no apparent reason. When this has happened in the past, we would press on accelerator peddle, to quickly recover from the braking to prevent a rear end collision and continue down the road. This last time (April 12, 2024) however, pressing the accelerator peddle made no difference until auto pilot was disengaged. Fortunately we were in the right most lane and was able to pull off to the side of the road to prevent a rear end collision from a van that was behind us. There were no warnings or messages that were displayed to indicate what had cased the braking. I talked to my local Tesla service department approximately a year ago about this issue and said that Tesla is aware of the "phantom braking" problem, but were unsure if or when a fix would be in the works. We did capture the dash cam video of the last phantom braking incident, that shows a clear road, with no objects or shadows that may have triggered the event. The dash cam video is 38mb in size, too large to upload.
2 close to collision out of 7 use of fsd free trail period. The vehicle signal for turn and went straight to hit curb. The vehicle during left turns at signals while on left most land jumps to right most left turn lanes while other vehicles are in it turning. Here is link I posted on x , https://x. Com/pavanginjupalli/status/1776618585105842340.
I got a recall notice for NHTSA recall 23v-035. I checked for the software update, but didn't see anything from Tesla prompting for the update.
Safety recall update was not done to my car when I brought it in for that service. I had a service appointment in which one of the tasks was to update my icons to the "larger icons". Upon taking receipt of my vehicle, I noticed that the icons did not appear different. I messaged the service center that performed the work and they told me the icons were the updated ones when they actually were not. How can a company entrusted with providing save vehicles for public roads be allowed to do this? what if this was a seatbelt malfunction that they told me was fixed and I got in an accident on the way home and died due to their complete negligence?.
My side miror will not adjust back to normal levels where I can see vehicles on the left side. Everytime I backup and move forward the left side mirror does not adjust back to original postion therefore leaving me effectively blind and not being able to see oncoming traffic from the left mirror. I have tried to get Tesla to fix this issue. Every time they tell me to take it in and that they will not give me a vehicle to comepensate for my lost work time. This in unacceptable.
The car autopilot system does very hard brakes when coming to stop at red lights ( when there is a car in front of it) very unsafe. Also while driving in the street or freeway, mostly when passing under a bridge, all of a sudden the car pushes brake automatically which is truly dangerous and unsafe. Also when the auto pilot is on it, disengages whenever close to a curb or anything else and you have to take over control very last second to avoid any accidents. This is a safety issues. Safety issue. Please fix. I took the car to dealership and both times they say it’s something called phantom braking and that they wouldn’t be able to fix the issue.
Vehicle is not up to date. Needs “over the air” update for auto steering.
As I was trying to make a turn on a street which I have used for months, the vehicle started accelerating on its own. So much so that it laterally flew over a median curb and hit another vehicle. I could not steer the vehicle nor stop it despite the fact that I hit the breaks several times. It truly was a very scary experience, and I am not sure what caused it. I have read of similar issues in the past, but I never thought that this truly happens. As a result of the acceleration, I got into an accident that damaged four vehicles. I am a very good and confident driver with clean driving record, and I have no explanation as to what happened, other than that the vehicle took control on its own. There were no warning lamps before, the vehicle has not been inspected yet, but I assume it will be after I have reported this very issue to the insurance company. While I am fine, my safety and the safety of those who were involved in the accident could have been extremely in danger.
I was on reverse, when I pressed the accelerator, the car was moving forward! I tried pressing the accelerator 2 separate times; both times it moved forward. I had to do a hard restart to fix it. This happened last night, I have not had the vehicle inspected by anyone. There was no warning lamps/messages or other symptoms. I had my whole family in my car at the time of incident. This was very traumatic for all of us; as I was inches away from hitting the car in front of us. This morning when we turned the car on the screen froze and then proceeded to restart on its own. Something is going on with my car.
When fsd was activated, the my had a number of incidents that the car was maneuvered in a way that was not safe: 1) it started going forward when the my was stopped at a red light at the intersection when the light was still in red; 2) it started to move suddenly and turned right while waiting at an intersection; 3) it changed to the right lane suddenly while approaching an exit in a highway. These movements were corrected manually by overriding the fsd but they were quite scary.
Regenerative braking is a huge factor when it comes down to hydroplaning. Hydroplaning and braking do not go well together. Generally in a normal gasoline vehicle, when in a hydroplaning situation where you feel the vehicle is beginning to slide, you would let go of the throttle (gas pedal), and correct the steering. Upon doing that, regenerative braking (which comes from letting go of the gas pedal), caused the vehicle to completely go sideways and no chance for me to correct the steering. This situation could have been avoided if the vehicle did not automatically brake on it's own when I let go of the throttle, in this situation.
Tesla Model Y awd 2023 took delivery of a new Tesla about 3 weeks ago. Upon returning to crofton maryland from charlottesville virginia January 15 on a snowy day, we parked our Tesla Model Y awd in our driveway. The vehicle was subsequently engaged at the parking gear position with the operator and all passengers out, my wife then opened the trunk to unload our groceries to the garage. Within three minutes of parking the vehicle with its trunk still open as we still had more items to unload, we witnessed the Tesla sliding 30 feet from our driveway and coming to a stop due to a dipped in between the driveway and the street as well as the buildup snow. All these happened within moments of my wife moving from behind the vehicle to the garage. Luckily, there was none of my family behind the vehicle or any other pedestrian around. The incident has since been reported to Tesla.
The incident: the vehicle moved forward when put in reverse, multiple times on one occasion. Details: at approximately 14:00 on 1/14/24, I parked the vehicle on a driveway that is on a hill. Normal terrain where I reside. As I was leaving 15 minutes later I put the vehicle in drive to get out but I also had to reverse in order get back into the street properly. I then put the car in reverse, and the car started moving forward. I put the car back in park, puzzled. I then carefully put it again in reverse, the car still went forward. This happened four or five times: remove the car from park, then put the car in reverse and the vehicle would move forward instead. In front of me was a fence and a tree and I could not keep going forward. I had a passenger in the vehicle who witnessed all of this and attempted to help by going in front of the vehicle to make I would not hit the wall/tree as the car would only go forward when in reverse. Eventually, after three or so minutes, I put the car in park, then neutral and then in reverse, finally the vehicle moved as it should have. Conclusion: it is hard to tell what component of the system malfunctioned. On the screen, the vehicle would show that it was in reverse by highlighting the "r" but the vehicle would still move forward instead. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer but that has been arranged. With a simple search online, it is apparent that this issue has occurred many times to others with the same model vehicle. This incident was extremely alarming because when a car is supposed to do one action and does the complete opposite, people's lives are put at risk. This is never supposed to happen. When put in reverse a car should reverse not go forward, simple as that.
Received vcfront_a447 error which shut off heating and air in the car. We were returning to indiana from tennessee on the 14th and lost all ability to heat the cabin or keep windows clear. The temperatures in the car were as low as 27degf by the time we reached home. With ambient temperatures in single digits, the car is basically not useable. This all appears to be related to the NHTSA heat pump campaign 22v050.
Car acquired 5/28/23. Drive train warranty till 5/28:31. Car stopped on the highway in arizona. Got it towed to Tesla service. They claimed coolant leak but never showed me or returned the parts even tho I specifically asked for return of parts. They gave me a phone number to call and an email address. There has been no response to several phone calls and emails. Charges incurred which should be refunded are: 1/5/24. Uber. $ 47. 52 1/6/24. Tesla. $ 917. 09 1/8/24. Uber. $. 61. 49.
This is to inform you of the incomplete tow package that Tesla sells/installs as a factory option on Model Y and model 3 vehicles. The 12 volt auxiliary power pin on the standardized 7 pin trailer wiring plug/outlet is non-functional, and this can pose a significant hazard to the vehicle, other vehicle, and surroundings when trailers equipped with electric brakes are towed. The hazard is that certain weight ranges of trailers are required to have electric trailer brakes and, in case the trailer breaks away from the tow vehicle, the trailer is required to have a built-in battery that provides the power to actuate the brakes. This battery gets recharged only when it is plugged into a tow vehicle, and it gets its recharging current from the 12 volt auxiliary power pin which Tesla has delivered without any power whatsoever being supplied. The hazard: anyone using a Tesla Model Y or 3 to tow a trailer with electric brakes will never be getting the trailer's battery recharged. Once the trailer battery goes flat there will be no emergency brake activation if the trailer detaches from the tow vehicle. My understanding is that when Tesla switched from a standard 12v lead-acid battery to a 16 volt lithium battery it became necessary to include an electrical component to reduce the voltage to 12 volts which has been the automotive standard for decades. Tesla did not provide this component to provide 12 volts to the trailer outlet's auxiliary power pin - instead, they just left it dead. Tesla made this change in the spring of 2022. People immediately noticed and asked for a fix, to which Tesla replied that it would be coming "soon". My August 2023 build Model Y has the dead aux power pin, and when I submitted a warranty claim they replied that the fix for it would be available "soon". Tesla has been selling this incomplete, hazardous tow package for a year and a half with the promised fix nowhere in sight.
We pulled over on a street to unload our car and a system update started. Our car was unable to move for over an hour. We were in a traffic lane. We reached out to Tesla and the said that this was expected behavior and there was nothing they could or would do.
We bought a 2023 Model Y from the mesa Tesla on 12/17/23. The staff rushed orientation (we are first-time ev owners) saying they were so busy that we could only get 15-30 minutes max for a complex vehicle. They told us calibration is normal and to reboot the y if anything happens and showed us how. Once we drove off the lot the a/c went out and we got calibration prompts saying pull over. We pulled over less than 0. 5 miles out and the a/c came on. Because of the bullying at the dealer we we afraid to go back and decided to go home. Again the calibration prompts came on and pull over. My wife was driving with my daughter and my in-law's and I was behind her in another car with our son. She suddenly started slowing down on the road because the vehicle would not let her accelerate. I pulled over to the side but she could not. I went to her and rebooted the y, per Tesla's directions, and the car went dark and locked me and my in-law's inside in moving traffic (my wife had exited with my daughter). We had to call gilbert police to direct traffic around us (had many angry drivers until gilbert police came not understanding why a y with a paper license tag was stopped in the road) and a tow truck for help. Two other drivers did stop to help too. I found the manual release but my in-law's could not. The tow truck driver had to climb (we had previouly rolled the windows down with the a/c issue) from the front seats to the back to get my in-law's out and paid $140. 00 to have our new y towed back to the dealer. For one week the story keeps changing - there is a coolant leak, no coolant leak but bad sensor, now the pcs is bad. I do not understand how the government can sanction such vehicles. We saved for a long time to purchase what was a dream vehicle for my wife and our famil'ys life was endangered within minutes. We are terrified of this vehicle and being around others like it on the road.
My car drove forward despite me selecting reverse gear.
When their is a car in my blind spot the car does not beep or try to pull the car back unless you are basically hitting the car next to you. It also does not beep or show me space out side my range of view to prevent backing into another car. My car (Tesla Model Y) has had non-function blind spot warnings and backing up warnings since we purchased it in Feb 2023. There have been multiple times when I have not seen other cars and almost ran into them (they were able to swerve). On this Monday night the other car was not able to swerve because there was someone in the lane next to her (3 lane road) so we crashed. My car is available for inspection upon request but someone would have to come to my home because the car is not drivable and is waiting to get into the Tesla body shop.
I am lodging a formal complaint about recurring safety issues with my Tesla Model Y long range dual motor awd, purchased on June 8, 2023. These issues have led to multiple skidding incidents under normal conditions, vehicle damage, and concerns about its safety and reliability. Incidents: sept. 23, 2023 (6,279 miles): suspension noise reported to Tesla service center, clarkston, mi. Service concluded suspension was operating as intended (invoice no. 3000s0008134598). Dec. 4, 2024 (29,425 miles): skidding on a highway caused minor contact with another vehicle. Repairs (two rear tires and parking lamp) cost $1,007. 28 at grand rapids service center (invoice no. 3000s0011836159). Dec. 24, 2024: at 9 mph near a stop sign, the vehicle skidded, colliding with a cement pole, damaging the bumper and parking lamp. Jan. 9, 2025: during a service appointment at ann arbor, technicians experienced skidding during a road test. Inspection revealed worn rear tires (recently replaced), damaged suspension, and subframe assembly. Repair costs totaled $10,022. 69, but Tesla denied warranty coverage. Concerns: safety and reliability: the awd system consistently fails to prevent skidding, unlike older vehicles from other manufacturers like Hyundai and Toyota. Service negligence: Tesla grand rapids provided worn rear tires. Previous services overlooked suspension and alignment issues, contributing to recurring incidents. Warranty denial: despite being under warranty, Tesla refused coverage, advising an insurance claim, which is unjustified given the defects and poor maintenance. Request for NHTSA action: investigate potential defects in the braking, traction control, and suspension systems. Recommend a recall if defects are confirmed. Hold Tesla accountable for repairs under warranty and ensure improved service practices. Seek compensation for emotional distress and service deficiencies. I hope NHTSA will act promptly to ensure public safety and uphold Tesla’s commitment to safety measures.
Tesla software updates aren't transparent on the changes to the cars behavior they will cause. They hide behind the vague terms "minor fixes" with no way to find out what that means. They are changing how the adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist feature work without specifying it. The only way to find out if something changed is to re-read the whole manual every time there is an update and look for changes. The erratic behaviors these updates are causing are mostly unpredictable braking. The unpredictable braking would be predictable if it were disclosed what the updates are actually doing. I believe they are slowly moving enhanced autopilot features to regular auto pilot without disclosing it. The car will now early and aggressively slow down before a turn if navigation is turned on. Also it will randomly slow down if traffic in the other lane is going slower than the speed limit. There is one thing my car hasn't done before that isn't disclosed in the manual. When driving past semis on the interstate the autopilot feature will cause the car to nearly drive on the road line opposite of the semi. Their unwillingness to have full transparency of what the updates are doing is making the cars unsafe an will cause an accident in my opinion. There have been several updates that have been especially bad about adding new functionality without disclosing it.
Since purchasing my 2023 Tesla Model Y in may, I have intermittently experienced highway phantom braking when either in self-driving mode or just using the cruise control. I would estimate it happens once a month. Just recently it happened 2 days in a row, at night and during the day. The experience is very scary because when the brakes slam on at 70 mph, I'm afraid I will get rear-ended. I have a dashcam video of one of the occurrences this week, it's an mp4 video file.
The problem here is the cruise control or autopilot. It first appeared when I bought the car. It continues to appear when driving on cruise control or autopilot. The car brakes harsh or suddenly stops. No messages or warning. Sometimes when driving under a ramp or sometimes when nothing is there it stops. I went to the Tesla shop many time and they can’t find any issue. I can’t drive using the auto pilot or cruise control. It’s not safe and my passengers. The other issue is the wipers start working when no rain but when you have auto or autopilot on. Please fix this issue. It has become a problem for me. I have taken it many times to the shop and they can’t find issue. No messages or warning. Another issue occurred two weeks. It’s regarding tpms. A warning sign appeared on the dash state faulty. I took it to the shop 4x and they’ve tried to fix it but it continues to show up. The tech repaired tpsi, warning goes away but after some driving it comes up as right passenger side issue. I rotated the tires from left to right and vice versa. Same issue on the right side.
I bought Tesla and Tesla insurance which monitors driving of driver to provide safety score to driver. The safety score enables monthly premiums of Tesla insurance. My complaint is related to safety score which provides financial incentives to drivers to not apply break. As part of safety score provided to drivers in Tesla app(screen shot attached), one of the factors used is hard breaking to penalize drivers when break is applied, forcing the driver to use regenerative breaking instead of applying break. I have observed, even when I mildly apply break the safety score is impacted. The second factor in safety score that seems unreasonable is driving after 10pm. My daughter worked late shift and would return home after 10pm. Why is this even allowed as most of the emergency workers and many others work late hours. I have also observed safety score change from 99 to 98 when the car is parked overnight, even when I am not driving.
I was driving my car when the touch screen completely locked and would not respond to any touch input. I had the seat heaters on high and was unable to shut them off without rebooting the screen. It seemed safest to pull over to do the rebooting since it takes about a minute for the reboot to complete. I was able to safely pull over, reboot the touchscreen and then shut off the seat heater. Aside from being able to manage essential tasks from the touchscreen, I was thankful that I had physical control (stalks on the side of the steering wheel) that allowed me to park the vehicle without touchscreen control. My biggest concern coming out of this incident is that Tesla is delivering vehicles without the physical controls that may also be susceptible to the touchscreen lockup I experienced.
I was driving in my Tesla Model Y to my sister's house. I went to park, stopping with the car facing the garage. Then, it suddenly accelerated and sped through the closed garage door. It slammed through the door, hit the walls, damaged the house and staircase and then finally stopped. It was so fast that I felt like it happened in a fraction of a second. Like sitting in race car or ride I reported the incident to Tesla on November 8th, the day this happened, and was asked to send pictures. I was told someone would contact me within a week, but I still haven't heard back from anyone. Currently, the vehicle is at a Tesla authorized collision center, and no one has looked at the reported issue. Collision center sent estimates for the repair.
The pedestrian warning system according to Tesla is supposed to create a unique sound below 19 mph that alerts pedestrians to the approach of an ev. The system on this car only works in reverse. Placing the vehicle in drive does not create any discernible sound that could be identified by a pedestrian as an ev approaching. I have taken the vehicle to the service center and was told that the car is operating according to specifications. According to what regulations I have been able to review, the warning system must be able to alert the pedestrian of the approach of an ev. As it currently functions, the pws only alerts the pedestrian when the car is backing up.
We have owned this car for a week and we have experienced unwarranted automatic breaking and rapid deceleration 1or 2 times on 5 out of the 7 days of driving. We are now considering returning the car due to overall safety concerns.
The NHTSA mandate to force Teslas full self driving software to perform full stops is dangerous. You guys made the software less safe with your authoritative mandates. The full stops cause road rage in surrounding drivers and cause them to nearly rear end my car. I hold NHTSA responsible for this degradation in features of my vehicle. You are failing in every aspect of your mission to keep the roads safe. Why are us agencies so left wing biased with hatred for Tesla and elon musk? you corrupt people also need to stop issuing fake safety recalls every time Tesla has a software update. You people are truly useless.
Unintended acceleration in a Tesla.
Driving at highway speed, the screen went black on my Tesla Model Y. The car did not completely shut down and eventually rebooted itself. After numerous calls with customer service I was told that this is not common, but not unheard of. The car has no physical owners manual; it relies on its screen. I now know how to reboot if screen goes black again, but there would have been no way for me to diagnose the problem or solution while screen is black. Initially I was told that the car is not drivable without a service call. Then I was told that it should be ok and just go ahead and use it when they realized that they can not provide mobile service to my location.
I used to have a 2021 performance y (the 2021 had none of these issues), and purchased a 2023 in early October. My current milage is 2,783. A few weeks into owning this car I could feel something hitting the cabin floor in varying situations. Initially I thought it was a road debris, but it was only at lower speeds. I should only be able to hear road debris and not feel it in the floor. I have come to believe that the car has loose structural bolts. I have a crease/dent in the roof pillar (passenger rear above door). It is an almost impossible spot to hit without a scratch or breaking the glass, and it would take an exorbitant amount of force to bend that pillar. I now have singled it out to torsion moments like entering a driveway or ramp. I believe this twisting could potentially compromise the battery pack and lead to fires in wet conditions.
The horn is not working properly. When pressing the left side horn button the horn does not activate. The right side horn button does work properly.
My Tesla Model Y is installing the same updates multiple times. The updates installing multiple times is causing erratic functionality issues with the car's software. Tesla has been unwilling to resolve the issue and claim the car is working just fine. When I asked the local service tech I was told the car shouldn't be installing the same update multiple times. I don't feel safe in my car when I don't know when it is going to act up next.
3 day old Tesla y coolant warning light came on, went to the service center and car has been there for 24 hours no update and now they extended to another 24 hours no reason given.
4 times on our 300-mile trip on I-90, where it is a 4-lane divided highway, our Tesla braked unexpectantly (phantom braking) at highway speeds in excess of 65 mph. There were no warning bells or chimes - just violent unexpected braking for no apparent reason. There were no obstructions in the lanes ahead of us and no apparent reason for the sudden braking. Fortunately, there were no cars immediately behind us. But it was extremely unsettling to have the car unexpectedly brake.
Steering felt odd and was pulling to the extreme right, which caused contact with a curb. After driving about a mile after contact, car lost steering and both front wheels were turned inward. Tesla claimed contact with curb caused the steering gear and rack to break-they did not take into consideration that car steering was not workin correctly before impact. Component is not available for inspection. Safety was a factor since I couldn't steer. Has not been reproduced or confirmed by an independent service center. Component not inspected by anyone other than Tesla service center in san francisco, CA. No warnings re:steering or any other issues.
We parked the car in parking lot of a grocery store. Someone was able to open the car using his/her phone key and drove off and when realized a mistake, parked the car a mile away. At the same time, there was another car which was responding to my Tesla phone app. I called 911 to report stolen car and using the Tesla app which reported the correct location after 15 min, were able to get the car back. This is safety issue as someone was able to open the car using a different phone key and could have created a lot of trouble if it would not have been just a mistake.
The driver's side mirror vibrates when in movement making it nearly impossible to see anything with it. I have tried to get it repaired but Tesla has stated that "there is no update on this. The concern arose earlier this year for new delivery Model Y's. For right now, we know Tesla is in the middle of creating a new part but there is no update on when it will become available for replacement at this time. " it appears that many are complaining about the uselessness of the mirrors and the unresponsiveness to Tesla on this issue. The car was delivered with this issue but I was told that Tesla is working on this.
I bought Tesla in may 2023. My Tesla Model Y has suddenly accelerated in my garage on 08/29 @8. 25pm est and damaged my garage front door/drywall and broken my stair case in pieces. It was phantom acceleration. I have video from my ring security system camera video which shows clearly that I was parking in my garage extremely carefully, however the Tesla Model Y suddenly accelerated beyond my control (I was not accelerating) and put me under risk and damaged my property. I have auto insurance to cover my Tesla car damage. However, my biggest fear is how can I use this Tesla Model Y when we see this life threatening behavior. This unintended acceleration can put my life and others life into danger. I would like help from NHTSA to ensure my Tesla Model Y is defect free. I just bought couple of months ago. I would like to request NHTSA to help me get this product replaced from Tesla motors. I am afraid to drive this vehicle now. I am currently going through a big shock, trauma and fear that I may have severely injured people on the road or my family members in garage if this unintended sudden acceleration would have happened around them. The damaged vehicle is outside my garage. It is not drivable. Vehicle front bumper is completely damaged and fluid has been leaking. I have filed insurance claim. I don't know what should I do right now. I would like to seek advice from legal sources on my options. My car is covered under my insurance, however I don't know if my car is fixed - I can drive this vehicle with confidence due to this strange unintended acceleration issues. Please help me at the earliest.
I went on vacation with my wife and 12 years old son to canada on this vehicle. On August 27, 2023 around 1700 hrs while I was on highway-40 from montreal to quebec city the car screen suddenly displayed “ car is shutting down , immediately pull off to a safe area, emergency brake disabled”. Battery showed 59 % charge at that time. I managed to pull the car at intersection between highway and an exit before it totally stopped and became non-responsive in less than a minute. I started communicating via text with Tesla help line after attempting to reboot the screen which did not resolve the issue. While this communication was going on vehicle got badly rear ended by a passing car. We were all wearing seat belts and thanks to that we juts had mostly bruises but my son suffered agonizing psychological trauma and kept on crying incessantly for long. He also had an injury on right knee from a piece that shattered from the rear door which also got jammed after the impact. Tesla helpline said since accident has happened they will not be able to assist further, rest of the matter should be sorted out with my insurance. Some good samaritans stopped the traffic for us and helped us leave the car immediately to the outer border of the exit road fearing that battery may catch fire as a result of impact burning everyone down. The car was later towed to a nearby facility arranged by police and declared totaled by my insurance. It was some kind of electronic glitch which made car hung up like a computer but Tesla has so far not acknowledged that or offered any assistance. Of note on Tesla app when we press roadside assistance, it leads to --> drivability concern which displays first option as --> shut down while driving. Its a serious issue needs thorough investigation. We all could have been dead if hit by a bigger vehicle and could have been multiple vehicle accident on a high speed highway.
The front aero shield under the car broke off after driving over water on the road. It was a very rainy day and impossible to avoid. We started hearing I scraping noise after driving over the water (2-3” deep) and the part ripped off when backing up. Seeing that Tesla has had this issue before* with their model 3s, I’m worried it might be an issue on their Model Ys as well. * sb-19-12-001, September 25, 2019.
In a church parking lot ( while I was about 30ft away from my car with the phone key in my hand) somebody was able to drive my car away ( she has a same color Tesla y as me).
The issue started on the third day as I moved to maryland from charlotte, nc. August 2014. Now it is my 8 car. The problem is all those cars have either hardware or software installed device, like microwave or radio frequency. I used to be uber & lyft driver, then August 2019 started to drive my own limo & black car with those ride-share corporations. The group which installed this devices run this device externally & cause a very distractive pain on my brain & my customers brain. It damages a brain, cause fatigue, distract vision, & impair brain functioning. Since it started I have been complaining from the local office to the fbi & maryland department of justice. Even though as they suggested me keep changing my cars I couldn’t stop this issue. Now it is publicly running in my car. The customers & the citizens know very well. The low enforcement agencies still didn’t acknowledge the dangerous of the problem. I am extremely disappointed & asking you to help me & other citizens. Sincerely, amare g ayalew.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? on July 17, 2023, while driving on a highway in the state of texas, my Tesla suddenly and unexpectedly engaged in a hard braking maneuver for several seconds while I was under full self-driving activated, despite there being no vehicle directly in front of me. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? as a result of this abrupt action, the two cars behind me were forced to swerve abruptly to the right to avoid a collision. I cannot stress enough how dangerous this situation was, and I am immensely thankful that no one was injured. This incident has shaken my confidence in the safety and reliability of the vehicle. As a responsible driver, my utmost priority is the safety of myself, my passengers, and others sharing the road. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I have raised a formal complaint with Tesla by email on July 17th and also, raised a formal complaint by sending a letter on the initial date of July 18,2023 and by sending the evidence of vedio. . Phantom braking occurs in cruise control for no reason and with no warning. The car is available for inspection. Many other Tesla drivers have described the same situation. On a recent cross country trip phantom braking happened frequently. We made sure there was no one behind us when we engaged cruise to avoid being rear ended. We were in nv when it happened again- this time a big rig had safe distance behind us when the brakes engaged ( we were driving 75). The rig driver swerved into another lane to avoid us. We have not taken car to service center yet. Social media is full of these accounts. This is still happening. There is no warning whatsoever. It’s hard to describe how terrifying this is.
Tesla Model Y purchased on 06/23/2023 from springfield NJ center. I had 2 accidents on the same day. I having been driving in the us from more than 5 years and never had a scratch on my vehicle nor even a parking ticket. I drove approx 600 miles in 2 weeks. So I was very comfortable in driving the Tesla Model Y. Date of incidents - 07/07/2023. At tinton falls NJ. I was trying to take a k turn on a flat road at around 9:30 a. M. I put the car in reverse. When I pressed the accelerator pedal the car went forward and hit an electric pole. I then pressed the brake pedal . Made sure the car is on reverse gear . On leaving the break pedal the car was automatically moving forward towards the pole. This should never had happen. I put the car in park mode and waited for 5-10 mins approx. Then after some time when I put the reverse gear and left the brake pedal the car didnt move and on pressing acceleration it reversed. I parked my car at the site where I had my work. Police were called and they gave me a ticket. I had a sprain in my neck. Later by 2 pm I drove with the same car home at edison NJ. (1 hr drive) I called Tesla customer service and they advised me to take the car to springfield NJ dealership as it could be a software glitch. I decided to drive the Tesla with my family in other car to the dealership incase they decide to keep the car. I was about to enter into fadem rd when lifted my feet off the acceleration pedal to slow down. The car all off sudden accelerated with no steering control. I noticed lots of car on the street and a lady exiting out of near by staples drive way. I grabbed the steering and rotated it all the way to the right to avoid any of them, hit a pole on the passenger side , pressing the brakes really hard and hitting a bush. The car stopped, no air bags deployed , no warning signs nothing. I was in a shock and pain . Emts took me to er , I had severe muscle sprain and still recovering.
I am filing a complaint about 2 separate issues. The first issue is water leaking inside of the center console. I drove my vehicle through the car wash for the first time this morning. Apparently the process of receiving an undercarriage wash left soapy water inside my center console. I have taken a photo. The second issue is that I can't operate cruise control (which is branded as traffic aware cruise control) without worrying about the vehicle brakes being aggressively applied in situations where they shouldn't be. I was almost rear ended on the highway last week when I had tacc set to 70mph and the vehicle decided to slam on the brakes for no reason.
Vehicle reversing malfunctioned , may be a software defect. Vehicle while reversing without pressing the accelerator went berserk and hit another vehicle in the driveway. Vehicle data was provided by Tesla but there is no evidence of collision nor any video recording of the incident. No issues were seen nor any warnings displayed prior to the vehicle reversing itself. However insurance deemed it as driver fault without any confirmation by the manufacturer (Tesla).
Unintended acceleration. I was driving back from a place in brand new Tesla, drove around 11-12 miles and was fine. We went to ice cream place and I stopped my vehicle in parking spot. Car was completely stopped at that time. To fix parking I put steering in reverse (don’t remember putting my foot on acceleration at all) and car went back at fast speed. I was completely taken aback and before I could realize and put brake, it hit red pole. Thankfully all family members were safe and no car or any one was hit while car was reversing. All happened within just few secs. Car was towed away to home and then to body shop, police did come to check on scene but there was no police report as it didn’t involve any other car/person and no damage was caused to property. Car is damaged in rear but motor and battery is all fine. It’s in body shop but maybe totaled based on claim. I still don’t remember putting foot on accelerator while reversing but was blaming myself, then this morning I came across article so wanted to share the incident with you. . Read more...
Drove my Tesla on a road trip for the first time and while driving the vehicle would slam on the brakes with no vehicle object or person in front of the vehicle. Very dangerous due to driving 70mph and vehicle tried to come to stop with vehicles behind me. This happened at least 3 times while in adaptive cruise control.
The driver floor mat that goes up on the foot rest keeps coming off and I fear it will start interfering with the brake pedal. I have contacted Tesla and they refuse to fix the issue as they say there is no way to repair it.
On a trip to prescott, az and back to los angeles, I encountered the following problem about 5 separate times. While driving at freeway speeds (70-80mph), the car suddenly and violently, without warning, applied the brakes vary hard (with no input from me). This threw me forward while the car continued to decelerate. In one instance, there was a class c motorhome traveling behind me fairly closely as if to pass. This was on a 2-lane road in the arizona “countryside. ” it was between 6:20am and 7:15am on Saturday, may 13th. The motorhome following me had to make a split-second decision to either crash into the rear of my car, or swing out left into the oncoming lane. He chose the latter. Fortunately, there was no oncoming traffic or it surely would have been a fatal, head-on accident between the motorhome and a car traveling in the opposite direction in the oncoming lane. The motorhome then continued to pass me and no accident resulted. In the other 4 times that the brakes suddenly applied, there was no one close enough behind me where they could not have slowed down to avoid an accident. Obviously, this was very disturbing to me. I finally realized that the automatic emergency braking (aeb) feature was set to “on” (by default). I then turned it off. No further incidents occurred after this. At this point, I will not travel on a busy freeway with the aeb feature activated……it is simply too dangerous. If this issue happens on a busy freeway, the likelihood of someone crashing into the rear of my car is fairly high.
Wipers keep turning on randomly. It is a safety hazard as you do not expect wipers to turn on when no rain or water. Asked Tesla dealer and they said it is a system wide issue and they have no solution.
The new Model Y froze in the middle of an interstate highway indicating it was shutting itself down and not driveable. It took only 30seconds from 60 miles per hour to completely inoperable and stopped itself in traffic. Currently the mileage of this car is only 12 miles and I drove only 7 miles about 20 minutes after the we picked up the car. Tesla service told me it was a rear motor inverter issue. There are many incidents of similar occurrences people report online. Luckily we were saved by some quick thinking driver who called 911, while we were anxiously trying to contact Tesla service. The police parked his cruiser to shield us from the fast moving traffic.
I was going to park in front of the store at the shopping mall. Before I reached the parking spot car was not slowing down automatically after releasing the acceleration pedal. I decided to use the brake (which I rarely use because the car stops automatically when you release acceleration pedal) and I really don't remember how everything happened and I might accidentally step on the acceleration pedal instead of brake, but the car was not able to detect any obstacles or objects and I ended up braking heavy metal bench in front of the store and broke into the store. I ended up smashing entire front window and drove into the store as deep as 1. 5 feet breaking the liquor boxes. After this heavy impact the airbags were not deployed. My concern is into two safety issue: airbags not deploying and car safety sensors not functioning.
Car just applying brake on its own when I was driving on freeway on April 12, 2023 at 1105am and 115pm and on April 18 at 1414pm. I was lucky nobody was following me closely, otherwise it could be a different result. I was driving at around 70 mph on cruise control. This incidents happened on freeway 5 in southern California and the weather was nice during that time. This issue could be accident waiting to happen.
I had the car for exactly one week. I was driving the vehicle in the street, and my vehicle jerked and stopped in the middle of the intersection and a warning sign came on “rear motor disabled”. Then stated it two or three more times, stating the vehicle is safe to drive under 50 miles, and no steel grades. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle at all at this time, and feel that Tesla needs to replace my vehicle as the vehicle is a week old, and the motor isn’t working. This is a huge safety concern as it could’ve caused a major injury accident, especially if I was on the freeway.
The car completely stalled on the freeway. Giving less than 20 secs of warning that the vechicle will shut down. I got over from the fast lane to middle lane and car shut down. I had to call 911 and tow truck. I towed it to Tesla and they said the rear unit failed… car was just purchased new a few months before this.
I got the delivery of the car VIN 7saygdee6pa082046 on March 10 7 pm and got the car out and drive to home from kennesaw tesls delivery center. On my way home the car stopped right after crossing the light signal at the intersection of medlock bridge rd and parson rd. And it does not move, I had to turn on the emergency lights to save myself from accident and the cop had come after some time. We were lucky to save ourself without an accident as the car stopped all of the sudden and there was no car behind. I think this is a problem with the car and needs to be inspected and nobody should be in this situation in the future. I want to raise this as a safety concern please for Model Y in the very first hour after the delivery of the car.
Failure: rear motor disabled. Verified customer concern. Inspected rear drive unit and found inverter had internal issue causing failure. Replaced rear drive unit inverter and verified vehicle now operates as expected. Safety: car speed reduced to 68mph max and the regenerative braking barely worked. All functionality like cruise control/adaptive were restricted yes - reported to Tesla dealer/service center and had verified and fixed under warranty no warnings prior. Driving down the road I heard a loud clunk and then a warning appeared saying power reduced, rear motor disabled. Ok to drive.
While driving on the expressway, I had the cruise control set at about 72 mph. The car to my right went to change lanes but then saw me and rectified; my car automatically applied the brakes hard without me even touching anything. I was lucky that the car behind me was far enough that it didn’t hit me. However, this is a safety hazard for me and others as I couldn’t control the breaks at all. It also caught me by surprise since I did t know it was going to do that.
We were driving our brand new Tesla y long range (we picked it up by the end of November 2022, and it was less then 150 miles) on 01/22, there were 3 adults and 2 kids in the car, and the car lost power in the middle of freeway. We had to slide the car to the shoulder and call Tesla service. When we saw the warning message on the screen, we were not given any respond time, the car lost power immediately. We were almost killed by it. On 01/27, we were told that the car has been fixed. They said there is a definite failure in the drive motor that was documented. There was an issue with an integrated part of the drive unite called the inverter, which can limit power when it has an issue and was resolved by replacing the drive motor assembly with another complete assembly under warranty.
There was a spontaneous blowout of a rear tire made by continental. Thankfully I was not hurt while driving at 75 on a highway. I had to tow and replace the tire at discount. There was blowout from sidewall with no evidence of other damage or cause of it. I have kept the tire as evidence. I noticed there is a safety recall on very similar continental tires. I am attaching the pictures and video of the tire and the note from discount tire professionals that nothing was found inside the tire. I wonder if these continental tires also need to be on recall list.
I was driving along the highway on cruise control - plenty of space between me and the car in front of me, both of us traveling around 70 mph. My car suddenly started decelerating quickly, as if the cruise control had turned off. It slowed down to about 55-60 before I hit the accelerator to get back up to speed. Nothing obvious that would have caused the slowdown, no one was merging, the car in front of me was still travelling 70ish, and I didn't disengage the cruise control or hit the brake.
I purchased a [car make, model, year] on [date of purchase] with the understanding that the vehicle was in excellent condition and safe for all passengers. Unfortunately, my experience has been far from satisfactory, as I have discovered multiple issues that were not disclosed to me during the purchase process. First and foremost, the car was misrepresented regarding its safety features and its suitability for passengers riding in the back. Since my purchase, I have noticed significant safety concerns for individuals seated in the back of the vehicle. The lack of proper safety restraints, along with inadequate seat belt functionality, poses a serious risk to the well-being of those riding in the rear seats. I find it deeply troubling that these critical safety aspects were not made known to me prior to the purchase. Moreover, my discontent is further compounded by the fact that, merely two months after my purchase, I discovered that the prices for the same make and model of the car were drastically reduced. This revelation indicates that I paid an inflated price for the vehicle, which is both unfair and unjustifiable. I believe it is only reasonable that I be compensated for this disparity, as it implies a breach of trust and fair business practices. Considering the circumstances described above, I kindly request the following actions to be taken: 1. Conduct a thorough inspection and rectification of the safety issues pertaining to the vehicle, specifically addressing the concerns related to passengers in the back seats. 2. Provide me with compensation for the price discrepancy, reflecting the difference between the price I paid and the drastically reduced prices that were implemented soon after my purchase. 3. Offer an apology for the misrepresentation and lack of disclosure during the sale, which has caused me significant inconvenience and distress. I believe that resolving this matter in an amicable manner is in the best interest of both parties involved.
Drove out of my driveway, drove maybe 50 feet and the car did a shake and stopped suddenly in the middle of of the road. The car wouldn’t let me put the car in park, drive, reverse or neutral. Many alerts appeared on the screen (pics attached). The right side of the car was making a whistling sound that wouldn’t stop even when I got to finally turn off the car. The car was reset, turned off and on but wouldn’t drive in any direction. It’s extremely dangerous that a brand new car, 2 days old with 118 miles on it would suddenly stop while driving with no danger near by, the car was going 7-10 mph, no other cars near or around me for the car to stop in that manner. I had two elderly (mother and mother-in-law) passengers in the car that could have been hurt because of this sudden unnecessary stop.
This new car Model Y was picked up on December 20th around noontime. After my husband drove it home, I updated the required documents with insurance. Then we went out to a nearby store. I was the driver(>20 yrs experience). When we stopped on smithtown bypass/moriche by the red light, during the waiting, the car suddenly took off, with an unbelievable speed. Thank god!! I don’t know what happened, but I was extremely calm at that moment. I heard my husband screaming and I knew both of us know we are going to directly hit the cars that drove from the left. To avoid such definite impact, I had no choice but quickly made a very aggressive left turn and stopped on the road of moriche. To be safe, I drove the car back to Tesla around 2pm. The guy said it could be my mistake of accidentally hitting a button of cruise control. I truly doubted it. Is there a button can be unintentionally hit without warning? I asked him to look into the report. I told him I was fully stopped and waiting on the red light. My foot was completely off the pedal. My hands were on the wheel. My eyes were on the road rather than on the touch screen for any information displayed. No warning signs at all. I felt I might have heard some noise while the car shooting out but I am not sure. Even though this serious incident was reported right away and our car was parked in front of the service door, we were scheduled to get a service check on 23rd. And then we were informed by an email that the service check has been rescheduled to January 30th. I believe this incident must be reported and be awarded by other Tesla drivers as well. While Tesla bragging how safe their cars are, my personal experience told me a totally different story. Please investigate this incident ASAP because I think Tesla didn’t take it seriously. I wish there is a traffic footage can be obtained. I can’t imagine how many families would be destroyed if the accident happened! praise the lord for his mercy!!.
When I purchased the car it was sold with certain safety features and those features are not available. It was also a surprise that the sensors were removed and Tesla vision was the replacement. As of today Tesla vision software update has not occurred and many features have been disabled. I cannot understand why Tesla would eliminate the sensors / radar and not have the upgrade to Tesla vision tested and active in my new vehicle. Pretty much all of the advanced driver assistance systems (adas) you list above are not functional. I have written three letters to Tesla since I picked up the "y" model and have not received a response. In those letters I requested the car be returned for a full refund because it was knowingly sold with these features missing!.
The vehicle is reporting open recall, I have already upgraded the vehicle software 2 weeks ago but the NHTSA. Gov website is not updated accordingly.
