Seats problem #1

During normal driving, the driver’s seat shifts/moves during turns. This is distracting and raises concerns about the seat’s ability to hold position in the event of a collision. I brought the vehicle to Tesla service to address this problem. However, the service center dismissed the concern without properly diagnosing it. Specifically, Tesla did not perform a test drive to replicate the issue. My wife reviewed the trip/route history for the vehicle after the service visit and confirmed that no test drive occurred. Despite failing to properly inspect or repair the car, Tesla has now marked the issue as “resolved” in their records and has warned me that I will be charged $225 for the next visit if I continue to pursue the matter. This effectively penalizes me for their failure to perform a proper diagnostic in the first place. In summary: •the seat continues to move while driving. •Tesla did not test-drive the car to replicate the issue. •the problem was dismissed without resolution. •I have now been told I will be charged $225 if I bring the car in again. This combination of (1) an unresolved safety defect, (2) failure to properly diagnose, and (3) a threat to charge me for follow-up raises serious concerns. I request NHTSA investigate and ensure Tesla properly addresses this seat defect without penalizing owners.

Seats problem #2

“front passenger safety restraint system fault, service required” rcm2_a636 message keeps appearing on the screen. It happened right after I bought the car, so I took it to Tesla to fix. It went away for a few months and now it’s back again. According to Tesla, this fault, “ based on the airbag system's self-diagnostic checks, a persistent fault has been detected in one or more safety restraint components. This could involve seat belts, impact sensors, occupant sensors, or related safety components. • if the airbag warning indicator stays on, the vehicle should not be driven until inspected. • recurring faults require immediate Tesla service attention. • pre-tensioner or sensor damage can compromise proper seat belt functionality. ” this is a serious safety issue that should be addressed in a recall as it could jeopardize occupant safety of the seat belts or air bags do not work. It also appears to be somewhat widespread and persistent. Tesla also does not appear to have a permanent fix as the first time I took it in they made a comment about one repair already having been done on this before I got the car as a certified used one from Tesla.

Seats problem #3

I picked up a new Model Y juniper. I have an issue with the driver's side seat. The seat bottom is shifting and popping when turning. They replaced the seat with a brand new one. I still have the same issue.

Seats problem #4

Drivers seat is loose, hundreds of other posters online have complained about the same thing. Seat shifts forward and back on acceleration. They want over $2000 for a seat repair.

Seats problem #5

Continued failure of the OCS system after repair by Tesla. This is the system responsible for determining if a passenger is in the passenger seat and without this is a safety issue. As it could affect airbag deployment.

Seats problem #6

Front passenger seat occupancy sensor defect – Tesla vehicle in March 2025, my Tesla vehicle began displaying a warning message indicating a fault in the front passenger seat occupancy sensor system. I brought the car in for service on March 14, 2025, and the system was reportedly replaced. However, in April, the issue recurred — the seat sensor alarm would activate randomly, particularly after going over bumps, falsely indicating that a passenger was present when the seat was unoccupied. I returned the car to Tesla service, and they again claimed to have repaired the issue. Despite this, the false passenger occupancy alerts continued. In may, I contacted Tesla and submitted several videos clearly documenting the problem. Tesla performed a remote diagnostic and stated that the seat occupancy sensor was functioning as intended. On June 22, 2025, I brought the vehicle back in for in-person inspection. Tesla physically examined the vehicle and acknowledged that the false alarm could be reproduced in a similar model vehicle, effectively confirming a design defect. Despite this, Tesla maintained that the issue did not affect the safety or function of the front seat. I believe this defect presents two significant safety concerns: 1. The frequent false alarms are distracting during driving, increasing the risk of an accident. 2. The defect raises serious concerns about the reliability of airbag deployment and other safety systems, which rely on accurate seat occupancy detection in the event of a collision. I have video evidence and service documentation supporting the timeline and recurrence of this defect. The problem has been reviewed multiple times by Tesla service teams, both remotely and in person. Tesla has acknowledged the issue can be reproduced but has taken no corrective action. I have videos of the defect I can submit and documentation of my conversations with Tesla.

Seats problem #7

I have a notice that a sensor went out in my passenger seat. I took it into Tesla to get a quote to repay rid and was quoted $2,000 to fix it. When I asked why it is so expensive I was told it is be cause Tesla has to retrofit my car to fit the new sensors because they stopped making my years sensors, my car is only a 2021. This is safety issue that should be a recall, I have several other friends that own Teslas that have had the same issue. The sensor that is not working properly is the sensor that registers if a passenger is in the seat or not determining if the airbag needs to deploy when in an accident. So without a working sensor it puts the passenger at risk. This is something I believe Tesla should covering as it is a safety issue & as a consumer I shouldn't have to pay over the fact they discontinued the proper sensor for my vehicle putting anyone that sits in my passenger seat at risk for the airbag to not deploy in the case of an accident.

Seats problem #8

Received a sign on my car 4 times- front right safety restraint system fault all 4 times I have taken my car to get serviced for them to fix it but still sign returned 4 times total.

Seats problem #9

The contact owns a 2023 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, the front driver side seat inadvertently adjusted the seat repeatedly; the contact had to pull over and allow the vehicle temperature to cool down for several minutes in order for the vehicle to return back to normal operation.  no warning light was illuminated however the "restoring driver position settings" warning message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that his daughter was in a booster seat, seated in the rear driver-side seat and was repeatedly hit by the driver-side seat; the impact of the driver-side seat left no bruises however, the contact along with his wife, his daughter, and his son all experienced emotional distress due to the incident.  no medical attention was sought. The vehicle was taken back to the place of residence. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,500.

Seats problem #10

This has happened several times and I am unsure what to do to prevent it. I have small children who have various things in the back seats. Sometimes during sudden braking a water bottle or a toy will roll under the drivers seat and under the pedals which makes for a very scary situation. I’ve read online that this has happened to other Tesla owners as well. I hope that there can be a fix for this as currently there is no barrier between the drivers seat and the back seats.

Seats problem #11

The front passenger safety restrain system keeps switching off and showing an error randomly during driving, especially with younger passengers on the passenger seat. The problem was already fixed by Tesla 4 times and is appearing again.

Seats problem #12

My vehicle is less than a year old and still under warranty. The dashboard display is showing the following error message: “front passenger safety restraint system fault”. Tesla informed me that the occupant classification safety system filter module has failed and must be replaced. Tesla has agreed to fix the component under warranty, but they informed me they could not schedule a repair until October 31. It is my understanding that damage to this component could prevent the airbags from functioning properly during an accident, so I am concerned that the car is not safe to operate with passengers. I have asked Tesla repeatedly if the vehicle is safe to operate and they refuse to answer the question.

Seats problem #13

Have had a service error come up multiple times front passenger safety restraint system fault -.

Seats problem #14

•what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? oapparent seat cushion/leather-type material. Possible others. •how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? othe seat melted stuck to a gym (drawstring) bag I had placed on it. Oa person could get stuck on the seat potentially putting them at risk when not being able to exit the vehicle if needed in a safety situation. Othe heat controls could be shorted in the seat potentially putting anyone near at risk of a heat or possible fire incident. •has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? onot that I am aware of. Unknown. •has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? ono. The service center has refused to send someone to inspect. •were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? ono. Seats problem #15

Whenever turning a clicking sound is occurring underneath the driver seat. The seat does not seem to be properly secured from the factory. Tesla said it does not seem to be a safety concern over the phone and will not work to get my vehicle into the service department in a reasonable timeframe. Many weeks to schedule with no alternative.

Seats problem #16

I have been getting "rcm2_a626" error for "front passenger safety restraint system fault. It comes and goes. Apparently it is a common issues among Tesla owners. When I first filled for the error they quoted $2000 for replacing front passenger seat. The error went away so I canceled the appointment. Then it came back in a random fashion and getting more frequent. This time, in addition to replacing the front passanger seat cushion, "they're retrofitting "sbr in OCS equipped front passenger seat. " I'm not sure what that means. If this is a common issue, there must be something to do with manufacturer qc.

Seats problem #17

We had our 5 year old son buckled in his forward facing car seat in the back passenger seat. When I started to drive my car, the front passenger seat started to move back, reclined on its own and fully crushed my sons legs in the back seat (fully reclined back). My son started to scream in pain. After securing the seat forward, we noticed our umbrella fell from the front seat and landed where you control the seat alignment in front. We were shocked to see that a 1 lbs umbrella can be heavy enough to control the seat alignment. If I hadn't quickly reacted to the seat moving back, it would have caused a serious fatal injury to my son. I strongly urge the manufacturer to consider fail proof ways to prevent this from happening.

Seats problem #18

Rcm2_a636 front passenger safety restraint system fault.

Seats problem #19

On two occasions, once for me, and once for my wife, when adjusting the seatback, the switch stuck and the seatback shoved me forcefully into the steer wheel. Both times while we were driving. This could have easily caused an accident, or, for a heavier person, caused significant injury.

Seats problem #20

I’ve received repeated errors of front right safety restraint system needs service with an indication of the airbags being disabled. Tesla has attempted to fix this on two occasions by replacing various wiring and seat belt parts, but the problem returns each time.

Seats problem #21

Driver seat started to move forward while driving. I had to think quick and pull he powerseat button back to stop the seat from moving forward. I stopped to pull over and readjusted the seat. While driving home the seat again started to move forward, I had to fight with the powerseat buttons to make sure I didn't get pushed too far forward and also not accidentally pull myself back too far that I couldn't reach the pedals. I couldn't even get out of car because the seat would not stop moving forward.

Seats problem #22

We bought a 2022 Tesla y performance in August 2023. Love the car but customer service in the service center is and has been beyond horrible and frustrating. We had a back seat (driver side) panel that was not snapped in properly. In November 2023 we took it to a service center so they could fix it. They said they needed to order the part and they would send someone to come to our house to fix it. On 2 different occasions someone came to our house to fix it. The first service tech replaced the bottom piece but it wasn’t snapping in securely so he said they need to order the middle piece. The 2nd service tech came to the house and said they did not send him with the correct part and he will schedule an appt for us to come to the service center. We scheduled an appt to go to ant other service center (an hour away) and they had our car for a couple hours and gave us a loaner. When my husband went to pick it up they did not fix the panel and it was not snapped in correctly. We have a picture of it. They said they would have to order the part and schedule us to come back to fix it. We went back and they said it would be 2 hours and my husband was already waiting an hour. They did not fix it and we left. Very rude customer service.

Seats problem #23

Front passenger safety restraint system fault. This is 3rd time this system warning has come up. The previous 2 fixes were under warrantee (the last one was Feb 2023), the new one is not and estimated at $1100 fix.

Seats problem #24

Driver seats heat up on its own. Windows go up and down on its own. Front collision sensor beeps with no cars nearby. Wipers issues. Back up camera issues.

Seats problem #25

Its a known issue affecting many model 3 and Model Ys front passenger safety restraint system fault. It's all over the Tesla message boards. It just happened to my vehicle.

Seats problem #27

Every few months, my car receives a warning stating "front passenger safety restraint system fault". This error noted that there are issues related to checking the front passenger seatbelt/airbag status, and that they may not work as expected. Tesla has tried to repair this 4 times on my car already, but the error keeps coming back after a few months. This is now the 5th time this is happening in my car over the 3 years I've owned it. The date/mileage listed is when this issue first started occuring.

Seats problem #28

On 7/18/2023 - my car reported the following: replace occupant classification system (OCS) of front passenger seat. In essence the seat sensor on the car malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. Tesla charged me $466. 29 to replace this and said that this was not under warranty, even though this was a safety issue on their part.

Seats problem #29

Driver seat constantly moving forward and will not move or stay backwards. Every 20-30 seconds the seat will move/adjust on its own and we cannot move the seat back. The seat moving on its own and not allowing us to move it back to normal or regular driving position leaves us in an unsafe position putting our chest right up to the steering wheel because it keeps pushing the seat forward. There were no accidents that resulted from this thankfully, no message or warning lights or lamps. Just happened randomly out of no where and will not go back to normal driving position.

Seats problem #30

Front passenger safety restraint system fault intermittently appears and disappears. Might be defect of manufacture of harness squezed. Lots of users are complaining about said and manufacture wants $500 to repair what seems to be a recall. Https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/front-passenger-safety-restraint-system-fault. 161485/page-5#post-7714894.

Seats problem #31

The drivers seat is not bolted down properly, it moves while driving. It makes it so that I don't feel in control of the vehicle and I may accelerate unintentionally as my foot is moved by the seat moving. I also fail to break as I need to as the seat moves back and my foot fails to engage on the brake. There are no warnings, and Tesla service is aware and maintains it is "under spec" I have attached a copy of their work order information.

Seats problem #32

I feel Tesla is building cars with non-standard parts and structural issues. 1. I bought a new car and started hearing brakes noises from 6000 miles where as previous car brakes rotors were good till 70k miles. 2. Within 9000 miles, driver side door, a pillar, b pillar, rear seats, display panel has to be either insulated or replaced. I am not sure how this effects car value or vehicle integrity going forward.

Seats problem #33

The second row passenger side seat actuator will randomly engage or disengage the seat. This was discovered while a booster seat with a child was using the seat and the seat unlatched itself while driving causing the seat back to flip forward with the child in it hitting the back of the front passenger seat. The seat actuator continued to randomly engage or disengage the seat with or without passenger or when completely stowed flat. Once the initial incidence occurred the manufacturer was notified and a mobile service visit occurred. At the mobile service visit the technician verbally indicated they've seen another similar incident report on a similar make/model with a similar VIN number. The mobile technician was not able to resolve the issue and a follow up service appointment is scheduled. The incident reoccurs randomly with no warning lamps, messages or symptoms prior.

Seats problem #34

Easy entry resulted in fractured/ broken toe of back seat passenger. Foot was resting in seat rail when driver exited vehicle which caused the seat to auto position to rear and crushed passenger toe. Driver jumped back into vehicle and engaged park to auto move seat to forward position.

Seats problem #35

The contact owns a 2021 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated while driving 10 mph, the middle seats unlatched independently. The middle seats unlatched warning message was displayed. No one was injured. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted, and the manufacturer stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was 24,917.

Seats problem #36

Car randomly slams on the brakes while cruise control is active. Happen most frequently mid-day while the sun is out. Most frequent when coming over and overpass or small hill on the interstate. ~5 time in a day and of travel. Brake are apply and vehicle slows from 80 to sometime as slow as 60 in a couple seconds. No visible hazards or vehicle on the road at the time. Very scary and dangerous. Contacted Tesla about it and they said a software update would fix it, still happening since I purchase last June and reported in July.

Seats problem #37

Much like sb-23-13-001 recall my rear seat bolt became lose. However it does not seem to be included in the current recall. Tesla is trying to charge me to resolve this issue.

Seats problem #38

After having strapped our kids to their car seats, my daughter had her feet resting on the rails of the driver seat in front of her and her feet were trapped and squished really hard when the driver seat started to automatically adjust between my driver profile and my husband's profile. I am 5'3" and he is 6'3" so his profile has the seat further back than mine. My daughter started to scream and cry immediately as we tried to quickly reset the driver profile to mine so she could free both of her feet. She had slight bruising and soreness after the incident. This is reproducible and the only way to prevent was to delete my husband's driver profile to avoid having his phone trigger the self adjusting mechanism when he opens the driver door. The vehicle has not been inspected for this issue by Tesla or any one else. We believe this is a feature that is by design but it poses a risk to anyone sitting in the back and unable to rest their feet on the floor such as a kids in their car seats. There are no warnings, messages about not resting your feet on the seat rails and the seat doesn't stop and doesn't detect if something is on the rails. I couldn't find a way for the driver profile to be locked to a single driver and be manually triggered for any other driver. I tried to search how to report this to Tesla and I couldn't find an obvious way to do it. The number listed in the manuals doesn't have an option for this. I couldn't find an option to report via the Tesla app.

Seats problem #39

I purchased a [car make, model, year] on [date of purchase] with the understanding that the vehicle was in excellent condition and safe for all passengers. Unfortunately, my experience has been far from satisfactory, as I have discovered multiple issues that were not disclosed to me during the purchase process. First and foremost, the car was misrepresented regarding its safety features and its suitability for passengers riding in the back. Since my purchase, I have noticed significant safety concerns for individuals seated in the back of the vehicle. The lack of proper safety restraints, along with inadequate seat belt functionality, poses a serious risk to the well-being of those riding in the rear seats. I find it deeply troubling that these critical safety aspects were not made known to me prior to the purchase. Moreover, my discontent is further compounded by the fact that, merely two months after my purchase, I discovered that the prices for the same make and model of the car were drastically reduced. This revelation indicates that I paid an inflated price for the vehicle, which is both unfair and unjustifiable. I believe it is only reasonable that I be compensated for this disparity, as it implies a breach of trust and fair business practices. Considering the circumstances described above, I kindly request the following actions to be taken: 1. Conduct a thorough inspection and rectification of the safety issues pertaining to the vehicle, specifically addressing the concerns related to passengers in the back seats. 2. Provide me with compensation for the price discrepancy, reflecting the difference between the price I paid and the drastically reduced prices that were implemented soon after my purchase. 3. Offer an apology for the misrepresentation and lack of disclosure during the sale, which has caused me significant inconvenience and distress. I believe that resolving this matter in an amicable manner is in the best interest of both parties involved.

Seats problem #40

1. Whoever designed the seats never sat more than 2 hours straight in them and is most likely below 150 lbs with the body shape of a petite person. Damaged coccyx and lower backs since inception of idea. Insanity will ensue after long periods of travel (+2hrs) in rear seating and extended third row seating for adults and children. You get more seating comfort from a Nissan than a Tesla. 2. Windshield wiper sensitivity lowers when using manually then activating auto. Sometimes sensitivity goes down with autopilot. Auto wiper sensitivity not constant. 3. If you have more than 4 people in your family, do not buy a model s3y 4. Bad panels which also affect steering column, with squeaking, why is that not a lemon? 5. Long range below 32f falls to half its mileage per full charge. Proper trip charging should be at 10% to 15% more than the minimum 0% for trip charge. 6. Autopilot forces high beams whenever there is fog. Autopilot will never engage on curves, only straight aways 7. Supercharger long trip navigation will not allow filtering locations with bathrooms or trashcans nearby. Walking far distances to find restrooms and trashcans are a normal thing. Teslas not meant for taking long trips. 8. Signage for charging misleading, "10 to 30 minute parking" will only charge 10 to 50 kw max while "vehicle charging only" will charge the advertised supercharger max output. 9. No climate control in third row for my, safety hazard and human rights issue.

Seats problem #41

1. Forward collision warning false alarm is very frequent. Often triggered by pedestrian on nearby sidewalk or parked car on street side. Tesla is using forward collision warning to lower my safety score and raise my insurance premium. 2. Tesla sold me "full self driving" package to me for $8000+taxes for more than two years and still have not delivered the product. It's a faulty system with lots of safety hazards. 3. Window not functioning per the recall notice.

Seats problem #42

The rails on my driver seat are causing the seat to rock back and forth. Service center is refusing to replace it under warranty.

Seats problem #43

The trim that includes the controls for the front passenger seat became detached. I returned to the vehicle to find the seat had fully reclined on its own. This occurred in October 2022. I confirmed with other Model Y owners that they had the same problem occur. Tesla said the clip holding the trim in place popped out and replaced it. A similar repair was done for other owners. The problem reoccurred in March 2023. I confirmed with other owners that the problem reoccurred for them as well. Tesla replaced the trim this time instead of just replacing the clip. There were no notices from the car either time that the seat controls had become detached from the seat. While waiting for the repair to take place, Tesla did not inform me whether or not it was safe for a passenger to sit in the seat. I question if it was safe since the seat reclined on its own, the seatbelt is attached to this detached piece, as are the seat controls.

Seats problem #44

Airbag is off for a 123 lb front seat passenger (adult female). This is an intermittent fault -- the passenger airbag status changes during the drive. Possibly half the time the airbag is off, when it needs to be on. Two Tesla service center visits were made. The first Tesla service center visit reproduced the fault but did not correct it. The second Tesla service center visit did not reproduce the fault and did nothing. The passenger airbag status off is displayed on the touchscreen. The faulty component(s) could be the seat occupancy sensor(s). This has been an issue since vehicle delivery. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Seats problem #45

My Model Y 2nd row seats are not latching. I keep getting warning ?? alerts. My vehicle been in Tesla service center posesiones since July,2022. Currently still with Tesla service for repair.

Seats problem #46

My Tesla provided an in car warning message on June 28 stating that the “front passenger safety restraint system fault” exists. I immediately created a service request (the same day) and included pictures of the fault message. On July 6th, the Tesla service team stated that the appointment required a service center visit (which is not an option when making the appointment originally) and scheduled the appointment for July 25. On July 25, I took the car into the service center. A day later, Tesla confirmed an issue with the OCS module that required a new front passenger seat be installed. Tesla could not provide a date the new seat would be available and let me drive off with the vehicle. I made a follow up appointment on August 16th. On the day of the appointment, the Tesla service team confirmed that the replacement seat was not yet available and they still did not know when it would be. It has now been almost two months since the original alert and despite my proactive efforts, Tesla cannot tell me when this serious safety issue with my vehicle will be repaired. Tesla is allowing its customers to continue to drive vehicles with critical safety issues without any urgency in the repair.

Seats problem #47

Tesla Model Y passenger airbags are armed automatically based on the weight in the seat. The manual states the airbag should be on with a person weighing above 100 lbs. The airbag does not turn on consistently for my wife who weighs about 120 lbs. About 80% of the time the airbag remains off. Even when the airbag is on, sometimes it will turn off from a deceleration approaching a stop sign. Took the car in for a service at the Tesla service center and they say airbag staying off is "normal" for a 120 lbs person. They advised we tilt the seat cushion down in the back to help activate the weight sensor. The passenger weight sensor or the program logic of the car is not reliable to turn on the airbag for my wife consistantly.

Seats problem #48

The rear passenger seat reclines randomly when vehicle is in motion with passengers in seat. The seat can randomly fall flat or decline at various angles. I have a video if needed.

Seats problem #49

The second row seat is broken. At first, it wouldn’t latch but now it cannot be moved or adjusted. There is an alarm that states that the second row seats are not secured. I have been unable to get it repaired. A quick google search shows hundreds of cases exactly like mine.

Seats problem #50

I got hit very hard by a seat. Here is what happened: I was sitting in the right-side-2nd-row seat while trying to figure out how to adjust the left-side-2nd-row seat position in order to accommodate a child seat and look for a missing item. I had not brought in the child seat yet, I was still playing around with the controls to see if I understood how the seats could adjust and move. I couldn't figure out how to fold the seat down. The button at the top of the left-seat did not fold the seat. I thought that the 2nd-row-middle seat back rest might be blocking the folding, so I was able to release the middle-back-rest and folded that down. I crawled over to the left seat and searched around the side and found the button that could be pressed. With only a slight push, the seat released and very quickly came down and whacked me in the head, snapping my neck a bit. The hit was pretty hard, and it came at me very fast. I couldn’t really react. I was pinned briefly. My head hurt a bit, so I had to sit in the house for 2 hours to let the shock settle. On hindsight, I am lucky that the metal rod that connected to the middle seat did not whack me in the skull at that force, since I had exposed it by folding the middle back-rest down. I also think that the spring force might be too excessive, if my kid had triggered that while on the seat, the child might have been seriously injured. I may have been too complacent due to prior experience with other vehicles releasing the seat to fold from the top.

Seats problem #51

The software was updated and I am no longer able to access control for the window defoggers or windshield wipers with one button press. This creates a hazardous driving situation when I need to focus on driving the car. Additionally, the seat will automatically adjust itself to other driver profiles and I am unable to quickly control it, once again creating potentially dangerous conditions.

Seats problem #52
