Owned car for only a week with 470 miles on odometer. At appromately 10am cst on June 26 while on an exit ramp the tire sidewall failed catastrophically causing extraneous damage to fender well liner and molding. Car was stopped immediately as emergency services police and towbtruck were called. Weather was clear and there was np obstructions on the road. There was also no indication of low tire pressure until the failure happened. All tires were at the recommended 42 psi per Tesla vehicle data. The failure was a complete total circumferential separation of the inner bead /sidewall from the rest of the tire. All tires were replaced by owner with michelins due to lack of trust in the manufacturing quality of the pirelli tires. Tesla and pirelli are not acknowledging any responsibility for this failure. This is a major safety related incident which could have caused a lot more damage if the car was traveling at a higher rate of speed. On an exit ramp the speed was not more than 45 mph.
a little background information, on Dec 2023 I installed 4 new hankook ion evo as (255/45r19) for my Tesla Model Y at the correa tire shop in dorado puerto rico and the manufacture date on those tires was 4422 and at the time the car had close to 30k miles. on April 2025 one of the tires broke and I replaced it at the same place with the same tire model. less than a month after the new tire was installed, while riding on the highway at close to 65mph the recently replaced tire completely broke off leaving only the sides and the rest of the tire flew off the car (see pictures attached). this happened suddenly with no previous indication or car notification of any issue with the tire. fortunately, I was able to stop the car without losing control and apparently the tire did not hit other oncoming cars. this was a very scary situation, which could have resulted on a serous and even fatal accident. when I checked the new tire, or what remained of it, I noticed it had the same manufacturing date (4422) as the tires I had replaced in 2023. The next day I went to the tire shop and explained the incident and they informed I had to buy a new tire while they investigated the situation and if there was any issue with the tire. At that time I also opened a complaint with hankook us. After waiting various weeks for a response, and expecting reimbursement for the damage tire, I have not received any information from the tire shop and hankook said they did not receive a claim from the tire shop.

My car has less than 9000 miles on it, when I had a tire burst on [xxx] California heading south around exit [xxx]. I called prirellei and they told me that they will not talk directly with me and I need to ask Tesla to contact them. The tire replaced by Tesla. I asked them to contact with manufacturer of the tire, as Tesla is not covering the warranty. The manufacturer mention to Tesla to fill the inspection forms and they will pick up the tire, inspect and reimburse for it. I spent more than 2 hours back and forth with these two. Now prirellei tells me that Tesla needs to ship the tire to their facility and Tesla is not willing to do that. 255/45 r10 104 v m+s information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. My five-month new Tesla Model Y tire blowout without any alert before it happened. The tire is original pirelli scorpion 255 / 45 / r19. Last week while I was driving at around 70 mph on a three-lane freeway. All of a sudden, I felt someone is dragging my wheels to the left. I was totally astonished. My first reaction was to hold my wheels. Within a few seconds I was totally out of control and zigzagging lanes a couple of times before I finally slowed down and pulled my car over to the shoulder. I was in the middle lane and fortunately there’s no cars on my sides at that particular moment. With that speed and that short period, I couldn’t avoid to bump on others if there’s any nearby. I was lucky that it didn’t happen a little earlier on a bridge or a little late when I would be driving on a multiple-lane beltway with construction site in the median. Tesla roadside assistance came to put a new tire for me and cost me $600. I truly believe it is design issue. I’ve been driving more than 20 years and this was my first time with tire blowout. Not to mention it’s just five months new. I’m pretty sure there’s no any warning before it happened. While I was waiting for the assistance on the shoulder, there’s a small message on the screen saying the tire pressure is very low and pull over safely. I’m not sure when this message showed up. But at least I’m sure it didn’t show up 5 minutes ago before I drove on freeway as I couldn’t pay attention on the screen while driving on freeway with high speed. Tesla should give warnings vocally and visually before this dangerous situation happens. I tried to report this issue to Tesla but couldn’t find any email address to report. Tesla should be aware of and evaluate this issue to make the existing and future driver to be more comfortable and safer.
While driving in second lane from left on I-90 at approximately 60 mph an indication of 'tire pressure low - pull the car over' was observed on the screen. Car was pulled over and it was noticed that driver side rear tire was blown. It was separated at the wall. Tire pressure was per the recommendation from manufacturer as there was no deviation indication prior to the incident. After driving on same section of the road for at least two times no potholes were observed as the section of the I-90 around that area appears to be relatively recently laid. The tire was inspected at home after the incident and there was no fod found in tire. As a first impression it appears to have failed at the tire wall. Expectation is that after failure the tire wall should be able to sustain the vehicle weight and operation of vehicle at least for a very short distance to pull over the car from the traffic on a highway for safety of driver/passengers and other vehicles on highway. In this case the consequence of incident could have been a very serious life threatening event. A detailed analysis of design specification and manufacturing process of tire including quality program and sustainability would make sense to verify if this is a design and/or manufacturing failure, to validate and re-evaluate the certification and prevent this type of issue. Also it is quite surprising that tires for this make of vehicle are not covered under warranty. It would also be important to find out idf similar incidents have happened but not reported. For the owner of this vehicle there was no satisfactory and technically convincing response to questions about probable cause and concerns about safety at the authorised service center except the replacement of tire by same make and model of tire with cost of replacement paid by owner/customer.
Goodyear tire, 255/40r20 101w xl I have had to replace 5 tires on my Tesla in 13 months. 3 were from nails, one was from running over a pothole and one was flat from an unknown cause. I have been told by multiple people in the car maintenance field that the tires are not appropriate for the weight of the vehicle therefore are far more prone to imbedded nails and other spontaneous road hazards. I only do basic city driving and avoid industrial/construction zones when able. Also, 2 out of the 5 times I have had a tire with low pressure, the vehicle has indicated the wrong tire. For example, the most recent incident showed my tire pressure at 23 in the front driverside tire, when checked manually the pressure was reading 45 psi in that tire. Went to Tesla and they confirmed the sensor needed to be replaced and made an appointment to have that fixed in 2 weeks when they were available. I continued to drive the vehicle since I was told it “was just a sensor”. The next day, the passenger rear tire was flat but indicated appropriate pressure for that tire on car’s reading. I was horrified that I continued to drive on a low tire for an entire day and did not know because the car was indicating the wrong tire was low in pressure. This could’ve resulted in a blow out or other threat to my safety. Supposedly my sensors have been replaced when I have asked for them to be but the sensors reading the wrong tire pressures is a chronic issue. Tesla is aware the tires are prone to flats, which is why they will not sell you tire coverage. I feel unsafe in this vehicle.

The manufacturer informed the contact that due to curb impacts, the warranty had become void and the contact would have to incur the cost of replacing the tires. The tires are original to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 4,000.
255/45r19 104w xl. I had a flat tire right in the middle of a fast perfectly smooth highway while traveling with a baby, the car is just beyond a month old and it seems the tpms system failed and the tire has to be replaced at the customer's cost.
Car started violently shaking at 70mph on the highway, almost lost control of the car and hitting the divider, took it to the tire shop they said could be a balance issue looked harder to realer the foam from inside the tire fell apart 255/40r/20.
The contact owns a 2021 Tesla Model Y equipped with continental tires, tire line: procontact 104w, tire size: 255/45/r19, dot number: ivy0fbjjl. The contact stated that his wife was driving approximately at 65 mph, there was a tire warning illuminated and the contact was advised to pull off the road. The right rear passenger tire had disintegrated and the entire tread had separated from the side wall. The contact had the vehicle towed to a tire dealer and had the rear passenger tire replaced, the failure reoccurred, this failure there was no warning light. The vehicle and tire were not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 13,926 and the tire failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2021 Tesla Model Y equipped with continental pro contact RX tires, tire size 5255/4r/19xl(n/a). While driving at approximately 60 mph, the contact stated that the front driver side tire popped as the low air pressure warning light appeared on the instrument panel. The contact pulled the vehicle over and had the vehicle towed to an independent tire mechanic. The mechanic could not determine the cause of the tire failure and did not have the proper tire size to replace the defective tire. The tire mechanic was finally able to order the tire from another city and repaired the tire nearly a week after the initial failure. The vehicle manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had been repaired. The tire failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
