The contact rented a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph with the adaptive cruise control activated the vehicle suddenly experienced phantom braking and abruptly reduce speed. The contact indicated that the failure had occurred twice during the trip and after disactivating the adaptive cruise control the vehicle operated as normal. During the failures no other vehicles or objects were nearby. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer, local dealer and rental company were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,000.
