37 Wiper problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/19/2025

The heat pump stopped working twice, which requires a trip to the service center and the repair to restore function is a minimum of $3,000. The vehical has no heat at all, no defrost, no cabin heat nothing! this defect happens in the coldest parts of winter and leaves the owner stranded wherever this occurs. The first time was at 52,000 miles. It wouldn't turn on. The heat pump seized. The second time was on a trip, it blow out all the freon and stopped working in waterloo, iowa. I was 4 hours from home and it was -4f outside. The car had 136,000 miles. Many others have had heat pumps go out in the same situation. . . Dead of winter. The repair is $3,000 to get heat back into the car. The heat pumpscare clearly defective or not big enough and are destroying themselves every other winter in minnesota. This is 1. Dangerous because you can't defrost your windshield. 2. You cold freeze to death in very cold conditions. 3. A very expensive repair pn a part that should last mire than a 1 or 2 years. Home heat pumpsvlast 10- 24 years!!.

38 Wiper problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/12/2025

When I try to defrost my windows, it does not work. They are so foggy when I’m going down the road I am concerned that I will wreck. I was told my VIN was not included in the recall. I think it needs to be.

39 Wiper problem of the 2025 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/11/2025

Vehicle component: exterior mirrors make: Tesla model: Model Y Model Year(s): 2022, 2023, 2024 (and ongoing) problem description: since the 2022 Model Year, the Tesla Model Y has exhibited a recurring issue with excessive vibration in the driver side exterior mirror at highway speeds. The vibration becomes noticeable around 50 mph and increases in severity with speed, making it difficult to clearly see vehicles in the adjacent lane. This issue persists even after mirror replacements or realignments, indicating a possible design or manufacturing defect affecting multiple vehicles. The vibration affects driver visibility and could pose a significant safety risk, particularly during lane changes or merging maneuvers. Numerous Model Y owners have reported similar complaints in forums and online communities, suggesting this may be a widespread issue. Tesla service centers have been unable to provide a consistent or effective fix for the problem. Safety concern: the impaired visibility caused by the vibrating mirror compromises driver awareness and increases the likelihood of collisions. This defect should be investigated for potential recall or corrective action.

40 Wiper problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

The windshield has a huge crack that just appeared out of nowhere. We took it to the shop and they said it wasn’t from a rock. There is no chip in the glass. Apparently a stress fracture. The crack is getting bigger every day and becoming a distraction while driving. Tesla said we are 10,000 miles over our warranty even though the vehicle is only 2 years old. It seems like they used cheap glass as this is common in the Tesla forums and chats.

41 Wiper problem of the 2025 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 01/23/2025

The Model Y has a software feature which integrates with myq garage door opener which opens the garage door whenever the car is nearby. This feature also has a selectable option to fold mirrors automatically. It is noticed that the mirrors fold even when the vehicle is in motion or not in park. This is especially dangerous when backing out into the garage. I almost had 2 near misses when the mirrors which I was using to reverse the car suddenly folded in the middle of the maneuver. Ideally the mirror should only fold if the car is in park or at least not traveling in reverse.

42 Wiper problem of the 2024 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 12/22/2024

43 Wiper problem of the 2024 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 12/14/2024

Widespread issues acknowledged privately by Tesla service managers, advisors, and engineers. Affects all models built from July 2024 to present with most recent “ap4” computer and hardware, primarily out of fremont factory. Suddenly, computer is short circuiting. This results in multiple systems failing given effectively all systems are dependent upon this “ap4” computer and hardware, and initially causes gps and camera sensors to fail also. This system failure includes: -federally required rear view vision system -adaptive cruise control -automatic emergency braking -blind spot warning -forward collision warning -lane departure warning -lane keeping assistance -parking collision warning -rear cross traffic warning -visibility and wiper systems -all external lighting systems -speed control internally, Tesla service advisors and managers are being told to advise customers that vehicles can be safely driven until fixed - which is currently diagnosed to be a removal and replacement of this “ap4”, which is heavily supply chain restricted. Customers are being told to wait “weeks” - with estimations in January and February - for this to be fixed. Service advisors and managers are being told to not acknowledge clear safety concerns given vehicles are no longer compliant with all applicable federal laws and regulations, such as those requiring rear view vision field of view expansion, etc. Further, internally sales advisors and managers are being told to continue heavily pushing sales to meet record sales targets to impact stock price. Several private conversations regarding ethical concerns of pushing noncompliant and known defective vehicles for stock value and potential criminality. Service advisors and managers also privately concerned regarding legal liability of impacted and defective vehicles in accident, given Tesla is communicating to continue driving. My own personal vehicle has been impacted, and information above has been gathered privately.

44 Wiper problem of the 2024 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 12/13/2024

On 12/13/24 after a software update my rear , front and side cameras stopped working. This includes blind spot cameras, and side turn signals. In addition the side mirrors are tiny because the car was designed to use cameras. The back window also has very low visibility. Tesla has confirmed that the car needs a new computer for all cameras and software navigation. The replacement computers are on back order and have scheduled a service replacement in six weeks time. In the meantime, they refuse to provide a loaner car. This car is brand new with only two months worth of usage. They say the car is drive able, but without the main safety cameras I don’t feel safe, the aesthetic of the car was designed to have working cameras. It is very hard to use the tiny side view mirrors and look out the tilted rear window. This is a commuter car, driving over 90 miles on highway per day. I am concerned for safety issues.

45 Wiper problem of the 2025 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 12/08/2024

Vehicle information: • make: Tesla • model: Model Y • year: 2025 description of the problem: after a software update pushed by Tesla, the ap4 computer in my 2024 Tesla Model Y shorted out, causing a complete failure of all systems controlled by this computer. The following safety-critical and driver-assist features have become non-functional: cruise control (adaptive or otherwise) forward collision warning lane departure warning lane keeping assistance blind spot warning parking collision warning full self-driving and auto park features cameras required for autopilot functionality additionally, because the gps system has failed, the vehicle’s navigation system is inoperable. This impacts Tesla’s unique route planning feature that sets up supercharger stops during long journeys. Without a functioning navigation system, I cannot properly plan my travel or locate charging stations, which severely affects the usability of the vehicle. Safety concerns: the failure of these systems, especially safety features like forward collision warning, lane keeping assistance, and blind spot monitoring, puts both the driver and others on the road at risk. Losing access to safety-critical functions after an update is unacceptable and poses a serious danger to vehicle occupants and surrounding traffic. Incident details: • the issue occurred immediately following a software update. • Tesla pushed the update remotely without providing any warning or indication of potential risks. • the failure appears to be related to a hardware short in the ap4 computer, directly caused or exacerbated by the update. Desired outcome: • a thorough investigation into Tesla’s software update process and its effect on vehicle hardware and safety systems. • a resolution that prevents similar failures in other vehicles and ensures system updates do not compromise vehicle safety or critical functionality.

46 Wiper problem of the 2025 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 12/03/2024

Computer system failure causing all cameras to fail, mirrors to stay darkened even in daylight, navigation system not updating, collision and lane departure feature failure. Issues were reported to Tesla and an ap 4 computer replacement were scheduled, however service has been delayed for several weeks ( now 9 Jan 2025). The car does not feel sufficiently safe to drive with the impaired mirror visibility couples with the lack of any cameras or safety features working.

47 Wiper problem of the 2024 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 11/29/2024

Tesla has told me the ap4 computer has failed in my car which has resulted in them having to replace it. I had this issue start right around thanksgiving. I scheduled the soonest appointment available for 01/03. Not offering me a rental or anything on my brand new '24 Tesla. It has just over 1,000 miles on it and is ~1 months old now. This issue impacts: emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane keep/centering, assisting with parking, automatic high beams and wipers, cruise control/ adaptive cruise control, back camera, vehicles built in gps to be stuck at one location every time, has made my touchscreen not automatically brighten or dim, my auto dimming mirrors be too dim in most driving conditions, constantly fail to install system improvements and safety updates, and because my vehicle keeps trying to do this, it has caused increased battery drain as well. This has increased the safety risk of my vehicle tremendously. . . Tesla has not seemed to publicly acknowledge the issue yet either.

48 Wiper problem of the 2024 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 11/27/2024

All the cameras for the Tesla Model Y has stopped working, without this lots of features stopped working including rear camera which is needed to reverse to charge the vehicle and anyware to park. All the collision warning systems including front and side stopped working. Wipers don't activate and figured to change to manual. Headlights always stay in highbeam. Looks like there are known issues and Tesla claims they don't have hardware to replace making us to not use the car for almost 30 days.

49 Wiper problem of the 2024 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 10/09/2024

The auto wipers come on multiple times a drive without water being on the windshield. This has been dangerous because the wipers will smear material across the windshield at the wrong times creating a visibility hazard. It almost caused a wreck where it activated smearing the windshield while the sun was directly ahead. Tesla’s response was the auto wipers are in beta mode and I should turn them off to keep them from randomly coming on. This is a challenge since you have to use the center screen to find the wipers and activate them causing one to look away from the roadway.

50 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 09/26/2024

I noticed that the car window glass broke without any external impact, and there are no signs of external damage. I suspect this may have been caused by stress fractures due to improper assembly. From what I understand, stress fractures often occur at the edges without any signs of external impact, which matches this situation. But Tesla service refused to admit this is a flaw of installation and refuse to replace it under the warranty coverage. After exploration, I found there are plenty of similar cases happened on the internet. And some of them were treated as flaw, some not. How Tesla identify this kind of case as flaw or not? they didn't even check my out in person. I cannot accept that!.

51 Wiper problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 08/21/2024

Multiple, random occurrences of hard braking at highway speeds when there was no object or obstruction ahead. In the 2-1/2 years we’ve owned the car this has happened on two lane and multiple lane highways, generally at speeds over 50 mph. Also, the windshield wipers randomly deploy even when turned completely off. They generally work when it’s raining but the delay function is also randomly not in sync with the settings or actual rainfall.

52 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 07/14/2024

I have a complaint about the wiper system. The wiper settings include "off", "auto", and numbers 1-4 corresponding to different wiper speeds. The "auto" detection is based on the front facing camera rather than any rain sensors, and is incredibly inconsistent. It regularly turns on the wipers in completely clear and dry conditions and often fails to turn on the wipers even in heavy rain. This would be more of an annoyance than an issue if it were possible to adjust the wiper speed manually, but it seems that the wipers still utilize some form of auto detection even when set to numbers 1-4. In this particular incident, I was driving in heavy rain, and had the wipers set to "4", the highest setting. Even in this setting, the wiper speed would often slow down regardless of the weather conditions, drastically reducing visibility in an unpredictable manner. At one point, the wipers, still manually set to the highest setting, stopped altogether, and I instantly lost all visibility and I had to emergency brake, as I could not see the road. On the highest setting, the wipers stopped for well over a second, and did not start again until I pressed the wiper button, restarting the wipers. It is one thing to rely on a proprietary and unreliable detection system when wipers are set to "auto", but I feel it is a major security issue to deceptively allow this unreliable rain detection to override manual wiper settings set by the driver to the extent that the wipers may stop moving entirely in the middle of a downpour on the highest setting.

53 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 07/07/2024

The automatic windshield wipers will not turn on during rain and mist. Also the wipers will not turn on when there is water and visibility is very poor. For unknow reason the car jammed the brake almost bringing the car to a stop on the freeway on cruise control and nearly caused a pile up.

54 Wiper problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 07/01/2024

In 2024 Tesla sent an over-the-air software update to my 2021 Model Y that gave us a month of free "full self driving. " we did not ask for this. At the end of the 30 days, our cameras and gps system failed. The service center said they had never seen this before despite many reports online posted by other Teslas owners. Tesla service said it was not fixable and recommended replacing computer at a cost to me of $2500. Now Tesla has posted a safety recall for this exact problem. They admit it was their fault and the recall states Tesla will replace the computer at no cost to the customer. However, they are only willing to fix the 2023-2025 models (those years are still under warranty). I feel that Tesla should fix all the Model Years that were affected. Tesla has again declined to fix my car. This is the recall website: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

55 Wiper problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 06/28/2024

Tesla broke automatic wiper function with a software update in 2023. Models other than Model Y have or have had this issue. There is no setting or adjustment I can make and Tesla has not made it a priority to fix this. They spend all of their resources doing other things. Nobody at Tesla is listening. New feature after new feature and screen changes are released but no fix for wipers. This is a conic years long recurring issue with Tesla cars. Tesla service can not fix software issues. It seems Tesla will never fix the issue. It creates a safety problem when driving because you must take your attention off the road and interact with the screen or try and remember the various voice commands to control them, or look at the screen while scrolling a wheel (you must pre-configure ahead of time to do this) while looking at the screen to see what gets selected on the screen, or do everything manually on the center screen. Attention is pulled off the road frequently regardless of weather. Currently in dry weather the wipers turn on unpredictably and often. Hour after hour on a long trip and you battle them all day long. Wipers are switched to auto every time you use a driver assistance system such as autopilot or full self driving. You repeatedly disable auto wipers using your choice of method all day long. You are ready to rip wipers off the car by the end of the day. In wet weather auto wipers don't turn off when the rain has ended temporarily or becomes a mist needing only an occasional wipe by pressing the single wipe button. If you disable auto wipers when it is raining you are constantly adjusting the speed between off, low, medium, and high which is eyes off the road screen intensive using scroll wheel or touching screen directly. Better if you can remember the speed adjustment voice commands which I can't because I rarely will drive in the rain because of wipers. I can remember disable because I use that constantly nearly every time I drive depending on the sky.

56 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 06/27/2024

Small particles of chips has been causing windshield cracks I had 2 incidents of above scenario, second incidence caused entire windshield to crack across the windshield, Tesla does not replace quickly due to lack of appointments on their end, drivers driving with such issue could get into accidents I would like to report 2 incidents, not sure how nhsta investigates (prevention vs fixes in reasonable time) 1. Windshields are too thin resulting in cracks very easily than compared to other similar cars 2. Inability of Tesla service to fix the windshield replacement quickly, I have to wait till August 2024 to get replacement done, which means I have to ground the car or drive it with cracked windshield (this is clearly safety issue) it cost be 1500$ estimated amount to get it repaired please work with Tesla to investigate if windshield is thick enough compared to other standard cars.

57 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 06/21/2024

Yesterday, 6/21/2024, something strange happened while I was driving my 2023 Tesla Model Y on the westbound 210 highway. The car was in autopilot mode, cruising at around 65 mph at approximately 11:20 am. Suddenly, I heard a loud shattering (or explosive) sound. The next thing I knew, my front passenger window was completely shattered. Initially, I thought a rock or some object might have hit my window, but I couldn't find any remnants inside the car. Once I got home, I examined the window from the outside. The glass was almost completely smooth, as if it had exploded. Fortunately, since my windows are tinted, the shattered glass remained mostly intact. Can anyone help me figure out what might have caused this? the exterior side is smooth like butter with no visible impact. Could it be a defect?.

58 Wiper problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 06/02/2024

The automated wipers will stop working when it is raining making it very difficult to see the road and traffic, and they will start working when the windshield is dry. The speed that the wipers work at is also inconsistent - speeding up and slowing down even though the rate of precipitation has not changed. This happens randomly, and after learning that other Tesla y owners have also had this happen to them, I suspect that this is a common issue in the Tesla y’s wiper system / software. This has been ongoing since we bought our car in Nov 2021.

59 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 05/28/2024

Windshield wipers put in manual maximum sensitivity mode. During the trip they stopped working multiple times. They just froze. When a manual one time wipe button was pressed wipers menu showed “ii” manual sensitivity and started working. Selected back manual iii sensitivity. Wipers worked for a while and stopped again. Sw version: 2024. 14. 6. Autopilot was not engaged.

60 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 05/26/2024

While driving on a freeway during very heavy rain, the windshield wipers were working in auto mode. All of a sudden the wipers stopped working. Even though the visibility was almost non existent due to windshield wipers not working, I managed safely to pull over to the curb of the freeway. Upon further investigation, I realized that the auto mode of windshield wipers was not working, but manual mode was working. With the manual mode I was able to get home safely. At home in my driveway I tried the auto mode again and it worked for a few seconds and stopped. Two days later my wife contacted Tesla about the issue and was informed by service representative that it`s a known problem to Tesla for the vehicle, but as of now they do not have a fix for the problem and there is no known expected time for the fix.

61 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 04/16/2024

My Tesla is supposed to have "automatic" wipers that go on by themselves to keep the windshield clear so one can drive in rain. Manual wiper speed control is difficult because the driver has to look at center screen and use menus to select a speed. There is no intermittent wipers control; the lowest speed setting is too fast for light range. Only one pass operation is possible without using the center console while driving which is dangerous. The automatic wipers are very erratic, sometimes running faster than needed or coming on when it's not raining to other times hardly coming on at all making it very difficult to see and making driving very accident prone. The poor operation can, of course, adversely affect the proper operation of the automatic driving capability too since that depends on vision by cameras through windshield. Other owners I know voice the same concerns. This issue is a big problem anytime it rains and even worse back last winter when it snowed. I've only had my car 3 months. I have talked to a few other owners who indicate this problem didn't exist as much 6 months or a year ago indicating it could be a problem caused by a recent car software update or a change in the equipment used for wiper control in my Tesla y. I'm not sure if the problem applies to other models (ie s, x, 3).

62 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 04/07/2024

Tesla recently rolled out an update that gives everyone in the us a trial of fsd. After this update I've had numerous situations where the car would panic and act like I was about to collide with a parked vehicle both while driving down a residential street in daytime and when coming around corners. This never happened in previous version. Also the auto windshield wipers no longer work when its raining but will turn on when its dry and cause dirt to smear on the window, mainly when the sun is facing the driver which makes it very dangerous. The last issue is pretty big, the car has been exhibiting severe phantom braking when on the highway using adaptive cruise control (fsd I guess now?).

63 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 03/24/2024

Windshield wipers fail to work properly when in auto mode. Windshield was covered in rain and visibility was reduced to zero. Windshield wipers would not activate to clear the rain. The problem has happened multiple times while raining.

64 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 03/03/2024

Auto steer in city which is the free software unnecessarily distracts with warnings, so much that I was almost in an accident 3 times. This doesn’t happen with full self service driving in the exact same scenario because it’s a paid service, essentially forcing owners to subscribe and pay for full self service driving. Furthermore, if you don’t react to unnecessary and distractive warnings you get a warning that auto steer (which is paid for as part of the car purchase) will be disabled.

65 Wiper problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/23/2024

I often experience significant lag for rearview camera and the turn signal indicator lights. Sometimes it takes up to 10 seconds for the rearview camera view to come up. It's dangerous because it's hard to tell if the car is in reverse or not. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts to change gear. I have similar experience with the turn signal indicators. It takes multiple attempts for the signals to come up, or there is often significant delay on when I turn on the signal and when the lights actually come on.

66 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/23/2024

I have been trying more than 4 times with Tesla to get this open recall fixed but failed.

67 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/19/2024

Auto setting on windshield wiper does not activate wipers. It happens in a downpour and moderate rain. Other times it activates in a sunny day or with minimal water on window. When it fails, I have to manually turn on wiper which requires taking my eyes off the road to look at the screen to set the speed. This is very dangerous at one of the worst times when I need my eyes on the wet road and traffic. Tesla has refused to look at the sensors and claims there is no issue. I have contacted them twice about this and gotten a “it’s a firmware issue. We’ll send an update soon. ”the problem has persisted for several months. I have attached screen shots of the messages from Tesla.

68 Wiper problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/13/2024

Turning on defrost vehicle has cracked windshield.

69 Wiper problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/06/2024

The automatic windshield mode does not function properly. On some sunny days, the windshield wiper will automatically engage. Yet, during heavy downpours, the automatic windshield wipers will not engage or it will wipe very slowly. I have to press the stauk manual or press the manual setting while driving in the rain. Very unsafe due to distraction and poor visibility while driving.

70 Wiper problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/06/2024

The falcon braking system kicks in automatically, and the windshield wiper does not turn on automatically as it would in any basic car now a days. The available autopilot/ adaptive cruise control only gives unteliable cruise control. There were times where in the middle of a freeway the cruise control starts braking, luckily there were no vehicle behind us so there were no collisions so far. The price tag on this car and the way it keeps fluctuating is un-acceptable so I ended up paying a lot for the car than the actual value from Tesla directly and the basic features like auto wiper and cruise control is a huge disappointment.
