Sway Bar problems of the 1997 Toyota 4Runner

Two problems related to sway bar have been reported for the 1997 Toyota 4Runner. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2017

Tl- the contact owns a 1997 Toyota 4runner. The contact stated while the vehicle was operated 35 mph they heard an abnormal noise from the rear and front of the vehicle. The contact stated afterwards they lost control of the vehicle. The contact depressed the brake and was able to stop. The stated patrol vehicle inspector was contacted and informed the contact that the sway bar detached from the frame. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure where no further assistance was offered. The failure mile age was approximately 200,000. Kh.

2 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2002

Mfr's# ssc & NHTSA# 02 v 021 000/rear suspension: consumer states dealer (andy Dodge Toyota; saint albans, vt; phone# 802/527-7512) wants to charge for recall repairs. Manufacturer contacted dealer and dealer refuses to honor recall without charge. Nlm in order for recall repairs to take place, the dealer has to take apart the sway bars. This particular vehicles sway bars are rusted and frozen and the dealer would have to cut them off. Since the sway bars aren't a part of the recall, the consumer is expected to pay for replacement parts.
