Two problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 1998 Toyota 4Runner. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Frame has rust perforation where the rear control arm bracket mounts to frame. . . . . Apparently this is a known issue with 1996-2002 4 runners and Toyota has refused to do anything about it.
While pulling out of a parking lot, spare tire fell off from underneath vehicle. Consumer felt this was not safe because it could have happened on highway.
