Four problems related to recreational vehicle lpg tank valve/gauge have been reported for the 1999 Toyota 4Runner. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The fuel sending units on the '99 and '00 4 runner are defective and cause the fuel gauge to not read properly. I have run out of gas several times while the gauge is reading half full. Toyota has a service bulletin on this but no recall. Bulletin el010-00 and el010-99. It is a definite safety issue as I have run out of gas on a busy highway.
Gas guage will read 1/2 tank when actually it's not. When fillling vehicle up gas guage will go to full, but never go pass half a tank. Contacted dealer, couldn't fix gas gauge because of expired warranty.
Ongoing problem with gas gauge not responding properly. Consumer unable to know how much gas is in the tank. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that there are no corrections at this time. Seeking NHTSA help in this matter.
The gas gauge indicates that the tank is empty when actually it still may have 3. 5 gallons of gas left.
