Defroster/defogger/hvac System problems of the 2005 Toyota 4Runner

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota 4runner. The contact stated that while her brother-in-law was inspecting the battery, he activated the defroster for the rear windshield and the rear windshield exploded. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was taken to an auto glass company, which diagnosed that the defroster motor and rear windshield wiring had melted. The auto glass company replaced the rear windshield and referred the contact to the dealer for the defroster motor replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
